"All the better reason to go stop him!" Bast yelled back. "Faster, Maimakterion!"
The bird beat its wings once, and a powerful draft propelled the woman and her golems upward, away from Millenious. She could see the outline of the dragons near the Gates, and she perceived lava in that general area. The group flew upward, climbing to a high enough altitude that the Gates seemed like a tiny bump on the landscape.

Bast popped out of the summoning seal on the cover of her journal, which was sitting on her desk. She bathed, did various other things in the bathroom, and came out in her pajamas before plopping down to go to sleep. She was asleep as soon as she slid under the covers.

Bast awoke much later, and stared at the dark ceiling. It was night, it seemed, and the air was still. Not a creature was stirring, aside from Bast, of course, not even a mouse. Of course, that only included the creatures in the area, and not necessarily those in other parts of the Village. The woman decided to go for a walk, but as soon as she had gotten dressed and was getting her shoes on, she heard a shuffling outside. She peered out the door and relaxed a bit when she saw the Princess.
"What is it?" the woman asked, sidling out the door and plopping down on the edge of the porch. "Did someone come by?"
The Princess nodded and cleared her throat.
"A messenger came by to inform us of a quarantine. He advised you take appropriate actions to protect yourself," the golem reported, looking not the least bit concerned.
"The only place I've been out of Douka is here; I think I'm fine," the woman responded, pulling up the hood of her cloak. "Thank you for the worry, though. If I begin to feel sick, I shall turn in to Skiski again to drain the contagion of its energy."
She waved to the Princess, who waved back, before walking down the path toward the gate. She opened and closed it with a light clang, and went on her way.

As the rest of the golems mobilized, Poryo covered the rupture and condensed the water over the leak in to a thick, dense layer of ice. This would serve to hold the water out of the area until pressure could be relieved from the system. The grounds had been spared all but the equivalent of a decent rain storm, and the little golem had done his best to make that happen.

Bast and her two golems emerged from a seal somewhere on her property. The latter immediately walked away to go do their own things while Maimakterion walked over to replace them.
"They're over near your lab," the blob reported, blinking all of its glassy eyes while doing so. "I heard explosions a while ago."
"Ah. Please go set up a barrier Fuuin. I'll be there shortly to activate it."
The blob instantly morphed into a large cat and raced out of the grounds at breakneck speeds. Bast headed in a different direction, however; she went toward the Kazekage's Office to report, but not before sending a Kaze Bunshin after her golem.

A deafening crack split the sky, which then seemed to split literally down the middle. Through the dimensional schism fell Bast, followed by a writhing mass of unfathomably horrifying eldritch plant material that seemed hell-bent on completely swallowing her. Before much could happen, though, the flat end of a car-sized hammer batted the extradimensional invader back into the darkness from whence it came, never to rend mortal minds in twain. Bast landed relatively softly on the soft grass of her estate as the rip in space-time healed, brushed herself off, and drew a summoning seal in the dirt. A hand seal and a plume of smoke later, the Princess golem--freshly warmed up from batting practice with a Cthulhu knock-off--was following the Kazekage toward the Office with several barrels of ink in tow.

The gate to the walled-off manor swung open silently on recently-oiled hinges, then shut with a soft click. Bast strolled slowly down the long pathway that led to her mansion quietly, postcard in hand, until she was about halfway along. There she stopped, turned the card over in her hands a few times, and then tapped the summoning seal inscribed on it. Much to her surprise, only two things came out: a photograph and a small metal box. First investigation was granted to the metal box, which seemed utterly inert but which also looked like a piece of equipment she remembered the UHV grunts having. To test her theory, she formed a hand seal to try to levitate the box. It didn't twitch, but a shield did rise out of it, presumably the same as the ones the UHV used. She clipped the box to her belt and turned her attention to the picture. One glance made her smile the rest of the way to her mansion, where she hastily found a picture frame that would fit it and the postcard and set it on her bedside table. After staring at it for a few minutes, the women sat back and started to meditate, forming a clear image of it in her mind.
Front and center were her father and Hide Kioko standing on a beach looking fairly content with themselves. Her father, Kuriigu, was a thin, albino man who appeared to be in his forties who wore loose black silk and plain wooden geta, his eyes blindfolded and his neck wrapped in a long scarf. Kioko was a young woman with hair as white as sea foam and a slight frame, who wore a light-blue kimono and finely-crafted wooden sandals and had a winding tattoo under one eye. They were standing on a foggy beach with the coastline at their backs, most likely early in the morning based on the soft blue of the sky overhead. In the background was the shocking red hair of her sister, Zyonu, who was sitting on a rock in a blue-white dress, soaking her feet in the water, back to the camera. A seagull drifted over the waves in the distance. Bast couldn't tell if it was the fascinating bird London, which could open the Eight Gates and was surely the burliest bird she had ever met, but she hoped it was. It had been a few years since they had all been together, she realized, but there wasn't much that could be done about that; she was the Kazekage, her cousin Amaya was the Daimyou, Mamoru was off doing who-knows-what, and she had a sneaking suspicion that Zyonu had only showed up for the length of one picture. Her thoughts drifted to the intricate tattoo under Kioko's left eye, the marking that symbolized the strength of the blood that flowed in her veins. Bast wondered briefly what it would be like to have a younger sibling of mixed heritage, since she had been an unusual birth and her sister's mother didn't have any such frills.
Her mind drifted back to her own childhood, to the days she spent frolicking through the gardens at their family estate under a green-black sky. She remembered the impressive zoo her family took care of. It had already been filled to capacity with odd creatures by the time she was old enough to care. She would have to ask Zyonu if they had expanded it next time they met. She missed the gentle roar of the water as it rushed through the canals in her home Village, but she hadn't heard it since her visit those few years ago. Her departure from the Village Hidden in the Void alongside her cousin and uncle had been bittersweet, and so it remained even now. The first few weeks of wandering through the desert outside of the Wave Gate had been hell, but that had eventually resulted in the founding of the Village Hidden in the Sand, the place where she eventually became the first official Shinobi inductee when she completed the test run for the ANBU program, then later the Nidaime Kazekage. It was such a long and winding tale that she could hardly comprehend it, and that was without recounting her time in the Void, where she lost two of her friends in a fight with the Omni-Clone. She would have to go through and recount it all some other time, though; her back was getting stiff.
With a sigh, the woman opened her eyes and stared at the picture. She felt something inside her twist and relax, like a knot coming undone. After sitting in silence for a few minutes, she stood and walked across the house to the kitchen, passing the lake near the back of her property, and poured herself a cup of tea.

After walking all over the village, Theodin happened to notice a set of huge gates and a really ominous looking wall with spikes on top of it. He stopped with the red panda cubs to check it out. “Damn, and I thought San’s house was kinda scary looking from the outside….” He thought to himself. After a few minutes staring at the huge wall, he noticed a sign that said it was the private residence of Miyamoto Bastet. “Hmm…..this is the kazekage’s house?.. Maybe she’s inside, what do you guys think?” he asked of the pandas. “She hasn’t been anywhere else we’ve looked, so it could make sense… and with walls like that I can see why she’d consider finding her a challenge. How are we supposed to get in to check, we can’t exactly knock on the door, can we, brother?” Theodin agreed with his little brothers, they had to find a way to sneak into the property and get to the house without being seen….or possibly attacked….Theodin thought hard about how to approach this difficult situation....

Trying to come up with a way to get to Bast’s house, Theodin had an idea. He looked up and to his sides to glance at the pandas, whispering “Ok brothers, I’m going to fly us up over the wall, from high up we should be able to see exactly where the house is. Once we’re on the other side, I want you to head for the house and stick to the trees and bushes and stay hidden, we don’t know what is on the other side.” With Rin, Tin and Jin still riding on him, Theodin flew up to the top of the spiked wall, performed a few handsigns and suddenly disappeared from view. At the top of the wall, he saw the houses concentrated in the center of the large piece of land, noting the location of the larger main house. Keeping his sensory field active for threats, he drifted back down to the tree level and the three little red pandas jumped off of him and zipped through the trees, heading for the houses. Theodin found a way to stack all three of his goggle lenses (infrared, night vision, and x-ray vision) so that he could avoid windows and see well in the darkened area in the shade of the mountain. He ran through the woods towards the houses, following the pandas, maintaining his invisibility and the sensory field. He hoped he could make it to the house and identify the real kazekage without being detected.

As Theodin searched, he would note that there was a solitary human thermal signature located in the house's kitchen; unfortunately, it was rather difficult to determine if the person there was the real Kazekage based on Chakra, as the entire area was saturated with it. The pond adjacent to the house, in particular, seemed to have small suns of her Chakra burning in its depths. The red pandas would be slightly confused if they relied solely on their Chakra-sensing capabilities, but scent would lead them right to a meditating Bast.

As they raced through the trees towards the house, Theodin saw the red pandas stop in their tracks and look around, confused. They followed their noses back to Theodin, “There’s chakra everywhere, we can’t track her chakra signature through here.” After a second of thought, the chuunin responded “Try using your noses, guys, try to find another human scent other than mine and follow it, it should head in that direction,” he pointed towards the main house, ”I can see a human heat signature over there, there’s only one and it’s a lot more vibrant than the others, I’m pretty sure it’s the real Bast.” After a minute or so, the three little red pandas nodded together, “Got one!” and raced off towards the house, with Theodin close behind. As they approached the house, Theodin noticed that the Kage was sitting, meditating probably. The young chuunin reactivated his invisibility jutsu as he approached a window into the house. Looking inside, he confirmed that Bast was sitting in her kitchen meditating. Rin, Tin, and Jin seemed a little nervous as they whispered to Thodin “Brother, this is kind of freaky, we sense chakra everywhere here, but it’s all the same! Is the kage really that strong?!?” Theodin nodded, forgetting that he was invisible for a second, then whispered, “From what I’ve heard, yeah. She is one of the main people that trained Sanshi after all.” The chuunin stood there looking into the window, feeling creepy as hell, wondering if he should tap at the window and speak to the main body or simply leave and return to the golem in the office to report where the main body was.

While Theodin was wondering what to do, the woman's Chakra output dropped down to normal levels. After a few moments of stillness, Bast stood and walked over to the stove. She grabbed the tea kettle and held it under the faucet for a few seconds, pulling it away when it was about half full. It seemed she really was making tea now, even while being watched.

As Bast stood up to make her tea, Theodin decided he should just let the kage be and return talk with the golem in the office. "I'm pretty sure we found her, guys, you three canhead home now, thanks for your help. "Theodin whispered to the pandas as they poofed away in 3 small clouds of smoke. He then activated his flight jutsu again and flew off the property, heading for the kazekage's office.

The aroma of the tea settled down the woman's nerves as she sipped it. Theodin's presence had long since gone, and she was quite satisfied that he had thought to look for her in her home. As she swallowed the last of her cup, she sat down once again, straightened her back, placed her palms together, and began to meditate.
Desert sands twisted around her infinitely in every direction. The distant dunes looked like fangs digging into the flesh of the sky, threatening to swallow it whole. There really was nothing quite like being out in the desert alone. A wave of sand washed over her, and when she came out on the other side, the day had turned to night. Stars twinkled solemnly overhead. Beneath her, the baked ground cooled rapidly, the warm specks of sand rolling away from beneath her to be replaced with cold moon rocks. The countryside had shifted from a golden oven to a silver freezer, as it did every night. Ever so slowly, the woman opened her eyes again and found herself firmly in her kitchen.
