History:
Hisoka was originally born as Toshio. His mother, Kaede, had high hopes for her son and intended to raise him well. The gods did not smile on them, however, and his father came to claim him one day. He brought with him a guard consisting of three other horses and Kaede was powerless to stop them. At the time he was not old enough to understand what was happening but he was old enough to remember. When he was older he realized that his father had secretly slept with numerous mares in order to obtain heirs for himself and children for his barren mate. Later he would present them to her and claim that they were adopted. He was the fourth colt obtained by the stallion and was coldly named Hisoka meaning ‘secret’ by him. He did not accept this name at first. To him he was still Toshiro but that name was forced out of him before long. The day he accepted the name Hisoka as his own he lost a bit of himself. It seemed that he had lost one of two gifts his mother had given him, his bright future.
Tatsuhiko and his other adopted sons treated the new addition coldly. The sons bullied him, called him ‘Nozomarenu’ and often left him deep in the wilderness to see if he would starve to death. Tatsuhiko did not take part in anything that his sons did but he did nothing to stop them which was just as bad. One night when he returned home cold, battered and half starved Amami his adoptive mother met him. She had always been kind to him, like an older sister really, she comforted him when he was upset and made sure that he was never hurt too badly. She had often stepped in and put an end to her other sons’ behavior so when she told Hisoka that there was no place for him here he was shocked. He thought it was a joke, that she was only playing and would welcome him back in a moment with a smile. The look never came for she knew what fate awaited him if he returned. In his absence his ‘brothers’ had been plotting a way to get rid of ‘Amami’s favorite’ for good. He tried to get close to her, not knowing any of this forcing her to do something she had never wanted to. She lifted a leg and kicked at him. He dodged the blow but it hurt him all the same.
He ran. He ran as far away as his still young legs could carry him and then he collapsed. When he awoke he knew not where he was and also didn’t know what to do. First he went only on instinct and found himself food and drink before setting off again hoping to find a home where he would be wanted. For months he continued this stopping only for rest and sustenance. After four months time he found himself deep in a jungle. It was not the first time he had been in such a place but at night everything felt different. At night he could hear screams, laughter and voices all around him but no one was there. It terrified him and in the morning he tried to leave only to find himself going in circles until it grew dark again.
Not wanting to hear the voices again he ran as fast as he could through the thick underbrush. A thick tree root sent him to the ground to a chorus of raucous laughter. When he stood once more he was amazed to see glowing orbs of light floating before him. After staring at them for a while he realized that they were moving away. Slowly he made his way along a trail using the bright lights as his guide. At the end he found himself in a wide clearing and he was not alone. Five other horses stood before him all decorated with lanterns, ropes, and skins and each bore markings like his own. For quite a while they did nothing but stare at each other in a silence that was only interrupted by the sounds of the bodiless voices. He looked around anxiously hearing them and it was at that moment that a young female covered in bright orange and red feathers spoke. A marking of gold and red covered her eyes and extended down her nose giving her the look of a bird.
They extended an offer to him to join a game of life and death and of hide and seek. He didn’t accept until she clarified that there was no risk of him dying by playing on their side. He accepted after this and was met with approval for the first time since he had left his mother. The young female brought him the pelt of a fox to wear after claiming the markings on his face to be quite fox like. The three stallions brought out two lanterns reading sei and shi and a thick rope while the older female watched. They said such equipment was necessary for their game and he was just in time because they had only just started this round the night before. Once he was equipped they introduced themselves.
Torao went first, the youngest stallion that bore the markings and pelt of the tiger. Akiyo, the next youngest of the males, played the role of the white wolf. Finally there was Ryouma the oldest of the entire group who was mighty enough to wear the skin of a dragon and carry the marks of one. Kameko was the first of the girls to give her name was only bested in age by the dragon, wore the shell and colors of the tortoise. Finally the young mare who had welcomed him first introduced herself. Her name was Kiyomi and she played the role of the phoenix. She then asked him who he was. He blinked then gave his name and a strange voice whispering in his ear made him add that he would be the fox.
At that moment the game officially began.
For years Hisoka lived with Torao, Akiyo and Kiyomi under the watchful eyes of Ryouma and Kameko. He spent the most time with the Tiger, Torao, as he was Hisoka's partner. Hisoka was trained to help participate in the game. At first he was fairly useless and only got in Torao's way but the Tiger would forgive him time and time again declaring each failure that he was just a kid. Eventually Hisoka began to lay traps with words and rope for targets that aided Torao but it was not enough for Kameko and Ryouma.
The first time he had been made to kill he became violently sick. Torao stayed close to him from then on. The two were nearly inseparable. Hisoka began to develop unusual feelings for the other stallion that Torao seemed pleased about. He encouraged them while simultaneously insisting that they keep it their little secret from the others. Hisoka didn't understand but he agreed all the same not wanting to enrage the Tiger and feel any more of his kicks.
For a time they were happy living their strange lives. One day Kiyomi discovered them and that happiness came to an end. She told Ryouma and Kameko about the pair and the elders believed such romance to be wrong. They managed to convince Hisoka that he had been lied to. Unwilling to listen to anything Torao had to say and confused Hisoka fled eventually ending up in the Kawani lands.
He immediately started up the game again operating on his own this time. He met several unusual faces and eventually me Parnasabari. The two lived with each other for some time Hisoka thinking that he was supposed to be with a mare. He felt nothing for her but offered to be her mate fearing that she had caught him washing off blood from a particularly messy kill. Not long after she actually did catch him pushing a foal into a pit to kill it. His plans to silence her failed when he was stopped by Hayasgriva.
Things had begun to return to normal before Torao made another appearance in Hisoka's life. Far from happy to see him Hisoka spurned his old partner at every chance he got. He ignored everything the stallion told him and eventually regretted it when Sabella, the kirin presented to him as a present, fell ill. Things went downhill remarkably fast for Hisoka when everything he knew was turned on it's head by one confession.
It took Hisoka some time to come to grip with the reality that the routine that had made up his life since childhood had to stop. He eventually recovered from the shock enough, with Torao's aide, to move. There destination was for the hotsprings to make a new life. They were stopped in the pass by Sabella's herd trying to reclaim her. Hisoka did not want that to happen and was pleased that both Torao and Sabella went through impressive lengths to let her stay with them. He doesn't care much for the thought that it means that Torao and Sabella will have to sleep together in order for her to stay. However he is willing to ignore the unpleasant fact if it means keeping the kirin around. He is more focused on finding a new way to live life at the time.
Personality: Hisoka is a bit of an unusual character charged with a peculiar task. He, along with five others, works to lead others into the deepest reaches of the forest and leave them to be killed. Every soul that passes makes the voices of the dead that he hears happy. These voices frightened him at first. Now, however, they provide him with useful information so he is eager to listen. They help him decide which tricks he can use to lure others into the most dangerous game that they will ever know.
Despite this terrible task he is actually not an unpleasant fellow. He doesn’t mind the company of others and would be more then happy to chat with you for a spell if you are lucky enough to catch him before the sun sets and he starts working. In these sun lit times he is surprisingly soft spoken and uncertain for the most part. Of course, he does have a bit of a temper. He does not tolerate bullies and will meet them with cruelty flat out or else he will keep up an overly pleasant routine and begin his work early. All others are safe from his wrath, but those who bully bring up memories that he would sooner forget.

History: You will find Torao speaking very little about his past before joining the game. It seems he finds very little of these events to be significant. He came from a family herd with a great deal of power. As the successor to this family everything he could have ever wanted was provided for him. It came at a cost though and he was able to make very few decisions for himself.
As he was just starting to grow ((roughly 11 in human years)) he grew very close to a wind stallion from the Kawani lands. Torao learned a good deal of the language from the horse a long with many stories and legends. He enjoyed his time with the stallion so much that he started blowing off his "responsibilities" to spend weeks at a time with the other male. One day it was announced that he was to befriend a female from another herd in attempts to bring the two together by eventual mating. Torao stubbornly refused saying that he would rather spend his life with the wind stallion. In the end his herd forced the stallion off their lands and all but dragged Torao to the female. He spat at the mares feet and left in a huff never to return to his home.
Torao spent months in the mountains and forests just roaming as he pleased. He adored the freedom even if his living conditions were far from good. Eventually he was found by two groups: a small cluster of horses from a violent herd and a group of five horses clad in unusual pelts. The violent group attacked Torao and without a moments hesitation he fought back until all three were brutally beaten or dead.At that time the group of five approached him saying that he fought with the ferocity of a tiger. Explained they needed him for a little game and without asking the details Torao ((about 12 at this time)) agreed just saying that it sounded fun.
Once he learned the rules of the game he didn't balk even the slightest bit. Instead he accepted the pelt and just asked when he started. The current Fox was unable to handle the change in partners after hers had been killed. In less than a week she threw herself off a cliff killing herself. Even without a partner Torao didn't seem to care, he continued playing the game by himself instead of with another. After a year or so the group met Akiyo. Once Torao had grown more into his adult body in size and power the old Wolf passed away and Akiyo joined them. Still it wasn't until Torao was nearly 19 in human years that they found Hisoka ((about 14)). Torao instantly warmed up to the new Fox which could be considered the time when everything started falling apart for the group.
Torao and Hisoka grew close, closer than Torao had ever been to any living creature. Torao trained Hisoka to kill, looked after him when he vomited from his actions and spent every waking moment with him. He made certain that Hisoka knew that their relationship was meant to be secret knowing that this kind of love was "not right" according to many. He began calling Hisoka "Himitsu-kun" as a way to remind the younger and simple to amuse himself.
Kiyomi found the out about the two and ratted them out to Kameko and Ryouma. The two confronted Torao and Hisoka about the disgraceful partnership and Ryouma beat Torao within an inch of his life while Kiyomi and Kameko explained to Hisoka that he was meant to love girls, not boys. It was wrong for a boy to love a boy. Hisoka went to Torao while he was recovering demanding to know why Torao had "tricked" him as Kameko said. Torao said nothing helpful and Hisoka stopped visiting.
By the time Torao was able to move again he discovered that Hisoka had left secretly taking his pelt and lanterns with him effectively preventing anyone else from becoming the Fox. Knowing that he would likely never see Hisoka again he went into a rage.
Three months later Torao and Akiyo departed, leaving their home behind them to find Hisoka. In their homeland they had left numerous bodies including Kameko, Ryouma and Hisoka's father and siblings. The had also left the smashed remains of their lanterns. The game was over. For good.
Unfortunately for Torao, upon reuniting with Hisoka, he discovered that the game was not complete. Hisoka was still playing it and refused to stop no matter what Torao did. Eventually he came up with the brilliant idea of using the kirin Sabella to get his friend and lover from a time not long ago to stop. In a round about way it worked but not before he was forced to reveal to Hisoka what he and Akiyo had done before departing.
He spent a few weeks after watching over Hisoka as he was forced to swallow a very painful truth. There were many fights both physical and not but eventually Hisoka had regained his senses enough to function. It was at that time that Torao decided it would be best to go else where to get Hisoka away from his killing place. Torao, Hisoka, Akiyo and Sabella left for the Western Walks with little hesitation.
They were stopped in A-ta-lv-yi Pass by Sabella's family demanding that she be returned. Hisoka didn't want to see her go and Torao refused for the sake of his friend. After a brief show of violence and a strange turn of events Torao found himself facing the decision of marrying Sabella or leaving her with her herd. With no one wanting to leave her the pair agreed somewhat reluctantly to all terms presented.
They continued on their way until they found a decent spot a few miles from the hotsprings in the mountains. They set up home there leaving Torao with an interesting problem resting on his shoulders: the requirement of bedding a mare while ensuring that Hisoka did not hate him for it.
Personality: Torao is dangerous even to the people he's close to. He has a ferocious temper and very little control over it. He's impatient when dealing with everyone and thing. He wants things to be his way and if he can he'll make it so. He has one very special weakness: Hisoka. Torao loves him in his own special way. In fact, he rather needs Hisoka very much like a drug. When he can't be near the Fox he'll cry for him, destroy anything he can get to and if it's Hisoka himself that's stopping Torao from getting his fix he won't hesitate to even beat Hisoka. That's the kind he is, he can be tender on rare occasions but for the most part his affections are rough.

History: Sabella was raised in a small all kirin herd on the peninsula by A-ta-lv-yi Pass. While the herd was made up of only kirin the herd played host for numerous visitors to the lands. They would provide all travelers with safe places to rest and point them in the right direction should they be lost. If a visitor wished it they would also be given acupressure treatments.
From a young age Sabella was trained by her superiors in the arts of meditation and acupressure as well as in manners. Many behaviors were drilled deep into her mind. She was never to show any dislike for other creatures or be to free with her smiles. She was only to speak when addressed which led to days full of nothing but silence on occasion. She was always to do what she was told and without complaint. Stronger willed creatures would have balked at the strict conditions that she lived under but Sabella welcomed the molding with an open heart never questioning it as a child.
Aside from the strict behavior requirements her life was quite peaceful as the kirin like. She never had a want in the world that wasn’t fulfilled by the herd. They had shelter, food, drink and above all else, harmony. The leaders of the herd were quite wise and well trusted among most of the herd. Their decisions were seen as just no matter what they may be. In Sabella’s youth she witnessed many arranged matings that would better the herd and as the elders had said it was true, things were better.
Upon her coming of age ceremony Sabella was presented with a choice to continue study under the herd elders and take a mate or study outside of the herd for a year and take a mate then. The choice was never hers to make. Having surpassed many of her superiors in skill her parents elected to send her to the outside world to keep her from shaming her elders with no knowledge of how unprepared she was.
After stumbling upon a dead doe Sabella was rescued by Carmine, wolf and her bird Raven. She slowly began to realize that the elders had been hiding this from her though she did not wish to believe it. Before long she was found by Torao and brought to Hisoka as a present. She lived with Hisoka for some time before falling ill to what Torao called 'blood fever' and was taken away by Akiyo to recover. By the time she was healthy again Torao had announced that they would all be going on a trip to take up a new home.
On their way through the mountains Sabella ran into her old herd. They were unwilling to let Sabella go...but Hisoka would not let her return. The way 'out' of the mess ended up being more sloppy than any other option and somehow she ended up being claimed as Torao's 'wife.' The herd accepted him as a strong candidate but not really believing it have come up with a stipulation that requires Sabella to present them with children if she intends to stay away from the herd. The terms were agreed upon by Sabella and Torao and the four companions departed again.
They stopped in the mountains a couple miles away from the hotsprings deciding that this place felt the most like home. In the mountains Sabella came to know a little fox named Nichi who she often confides in though the two do not share any special bond.
Personality: Sabella could be described as a shadow, mirror or shell of a person. She keeps all thoughts that would be inappropriate locked safely away inside her head. All her joys, angers, concerns and fears are unlikely to escape her lips easily. She can feel deep inside herself that it is dangerous but she knows it is not her place to go against the ways of her herd. So she says and does what would be deemed appropriate no matter what that may be.
She is unaware of her weaknesses at the time having only known the herd and believes herself to be quite capable of dealing with the outside world.

History: Uwasa was born to an unusual family under unusual circumstances. She exists because of a treaty between her parents and her mother's herd. She doesn't quite understand the full implications behind it but she has the basic idea. She exists as a way to buy her mother's freedom and she's more than happy to exist for that reason. As a child she grew up with two fathers, a mother and a fox nanny. She made occasional trips with her parents to meet with her mother's herd but those became less frequent possibly because she scared most of Sabella's herd.
Because Uwasa is not a kirin her fathers didn't raise her to be revered like one. Unfortunately neither of them really knew how to raise a girl so they ended up raising her more like a boy. They taught her how to track, plan, trick and some basic combat techniques. They taught her things that they had learned growing up because they weren't sure what else to teach her. As a result Sabella's own lessons of being reserved and more lady like fell on deaf ears who just wanted to go scout the woods some more.
As a sort of rite of passage Uwasa was permitted to go out on her own to explore the lands beyond their home. The trip was short but she returned with the silver pelt of a leopard and a mysterious skull. With some help she got the skull fixed on top of her head for easy carrying. She hopes to one day find a person who knows what the skull belonged to because it's not quite human.
Personality: Uwasa's a "go-get-em" kind of girl. She's stubborn, bold and just a bit impulsive. She can look pretty fierce but she's not the type to run around picking fights for no reason. She's a bit on the quiet side and not what one would consider hyper but she's got a curious nose and a taste for adventure.

Personality: Chiyo has a great deal of practice with herbs, tracking, and basic trap making. She’s more on the peaceful side of things and likes spending her days wandering around. She’s something of a pathfinder and likes helping people find their way when they get lost in the mountains near her home.
