"Come now, Phora!", Carissa frowned and asked. "In the first place, what are you looking for?" After all, it was quite hard to figure out what someone wanted help doing if she, herself, didn't know what the problem was. "Because if you don't need help, I can go start working on that new fragnance~!", she said cheerily. Her fragrances were strange sometimes, or at the very least, unconventional. For example, the one she was doing at the moment was an experiment on pheromones and stimulating smells. 'Sex in a bottle', she dubbed it, although at the moment, it kind of smelled of roses and wet fur.

Chairman Xiao Beitang, head of one of the largest manufacturing corporations in the world and one of the ten richest men on the planet, stepped off a coach-class flight and went through security like everyone else. It was not a humble or honourable thing to take what others might covet merely because of his position. On the rare occasions he traveled abroad - becoming less frequent as he aged, and soon to stop altogether as he began grooming his son Mao to replace him - he always traveled coach-class and with minimal luggage.
This particular trip to the States was the first he'd made in six years, and was made to correct a culpably stupid mistake that a small, a very small, competitor had made. Bamboo Enterprises International - the company that he headed - already had a huge market in the States in almost every field. They monopolized 35% of contracts from the US Department of Defense. Most of the plastics industry was under their control. The only area in which they had significant investments that they had never expanded was cosmetics and perfumes, which was handled by a minor branch (Bamboo Cosmetics). They had recently started expansion with a few test markets, including Brenneville. It was their largest test market, in fact.
And several weeks ago, Chairman Xiao had received a memo that their market share had gone from 27% to 8% over the course of the last fiscal quarter. Such a loss hadn't taken him very long to track to its source, and within a week he'd received a sample of the competitor's product in his lab at BC R&D. Because of his custom equipment it hadn't taken him thirty minutes to isolate the twelve patented compounds whose composition was unknown outside of Bamboo Enterprises' labs and manufactories. While there was an outside chance that all twelve of the patented chemicals might have been developed by chance if Fong Industries was involved, the competitor involved in this case was some American hackjob called "PrimRose Cosmetics, Inc." There was no earthly way for them to independently develop the twelve specific chemicals that BEI used in their products, and BEI could sue them for several dozen times their highest possible net worth if and when Xiao confirmed this fact.
