"I am glad you were undisturbed... ah, Aisha?" Hestitantly,. she took the headphones, fingering the plastic delicately. Hollandaise stared at Aisha, trying to guess exactly what the ghoul was. Glowing eyes, warm skin... she shrugged, smiled, and put the headphones on. Deszeld was an ever-present shadow over her shoulder, annoying but tolerable. Then the music played and her thoughts scattered. It was loud, loud, loud, but somehow she liked it. "THIS IS NOTHING LIKE I HAVE HEARD BEFORE I THINK," she said loudly. Hollandaise couldn't even hear herself think, much less talk. Pulling one headphone from her ear, she blinked rapidly.

"AH," she said, before lowering her voice to a normal level. Hollandaise flushed slightly. "This is good, Aisha. Do you have a lot of music?" Music was not something most Warders invested time in. "Des, listen." She beckoned the dragon to lean more closely in, to hear the music without Hollandaise having to take off the headphones. To be honest, she was afraid that if Deszeld took the headphones in her own hands, Aisha would never get them back.

It was strange to see a ferret stick out its tongue, but that is what Keen did dancing bouncy movement around the dormouse's feet before bouncing up to the cheshire and sticking her nose against his. Sure she was likely to end up a cat snack, but wont he be surprised if mid chomp she turned back into her banshee form.

Stress time over and after giving a little sniff she did just that, turning back to her rather dim ghoul form, winking at Brand. Sorry about your pants and thank you for the help. She wrote in genuine sorrow for what she had done and as acknowledgement to the other ghoul's protective stance. She didn't like making friends mad at her.

She looked down at the Cheshire again, and knelt a little wondering if he would let her scratch between his ears a moment, smiling the whole while. Well that was until the teacher came back and started to talk to them, with one more gentle scratch, if it had been permitted, she rose back to her feet.

She listened to the instructions and clapped her hands a little. Oh! Something I do naturally, I have to get to the people of my clan when we... well when I have to announce their time. We have to get to some strange places, hence the other form. Most chose insects or rats, but I like the ferret more. Her written comment would also explain why she could understand rodent though she was a member of the weasel family.

Keen headed up and closed her eyes just deciding to randomly pick two items instead of look inside. She didn't know what she would need to do with them anyway. In result she ended up with: bug repellent and Mr. Delicious brand minipet treats She looked at both items in confusion and shrugged, not overly sure how they would help with house breaking. Then it dawned on her that perhaps the house had pets in it, ones that may attack, treats tend to sooth them sometimes. She smiled and nodded. This actually could be more fun than she expected.

Well this may actually be a lot of fun. She wrote showing the note to those around her.

Keen likes ghostly animals, and Cheshires are close to that to her.

Xavier tilted his head at Lock.

"My rainbow friend? Oh! Estel? Uh... I don't know. Maybe she's in the dorm? Ghost and all," he replied with an amiable shrug. He glanced over at Piper, waving to the unfamiliar girl as she came on by.

His attention soon shifted as it seemed like things were about to get started here.

"Breaking and entering? Sweet."

The ranger considered his options with the supplies, then picked out the bug repellent and the minipet treats. He wasn't sure how these would help. But he'd find out, right?

Oh. This was a class. Shun was about to go on his way, but the topic caught his attention. Hm. He supposed it wouldn't hurt to stick around a bit. It might make for some good practice, if nothing else. Granted, the "tools" offered were... interesting to say in the least.

After careful consideration, he picked out the de-slimer and the flashlight. Perhaps those would be of greatest use to him. It did come as a bit of a surprise that lockpicks and torsion wrenches weren't a part of this.

Lock gave Piper an appreciative pat on the back and said, "Nothing much. Xavier, Piper, Piper, Xavier." His introductions were short, sweet and to the point.

He listened to the lunatic old man ramble on with mild apathy until he discussed breaking and entering. Now that was a skill he might actually excel at.

He chose de-slimer and the minipet treats. The darkness was no problem to him (he had, in fact, spent 14 years prior in the utter darkness of Halloween's underground) so the flashlight was un-needed, and he had never particularly disliked bugs. Lots of them grew in the loamy soils of Halloween.

Then he told Piper, "You should get the flashlight, at least. Between the three of us we can have all of the instruments."

"Ferret!" Carlos nosed back when the brave ferret actually got closer, letting them touch noses. He kept his promise not eat. Just touch. That was until she transformed on him.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

He climbed up Camillia just a bit, just a bit. O.O That was unexpected. But he really should have expected it on second thought.

Still, once petting were offered, Carlos accepted all pettings with a purr. Keen quickly found that her hand got headbutted in a small demand for more pettings. This ghoul was not bad. Not bad at all. Now he only wondered if she liked tea. Tea made everything better. In all honesty he was disappointed when the pettings stopped. Oh they were doing a thing now? Ok.

Carlos walked over and smelled a thing. He riffled into the things and pulled out Mr. Delicious brand minipet treats. Carlos sniffed them. Were they good? They smelled pungent and edible. One received a little lick. He licked these so he kept them.

The next thing was a dim flashlight with a strange blue beam. "Blue!" he squeaked and played with holding it in an illusioned claw as he swished the light all over the ground. He started up a bit with his own illusions claws appearing till he made too many and the one holding the flashlight vanished, dropping it. "Oops." Carlos let them all but two vanish and picked up his things.

Ok he was ready to go.

Carlos accepts all pettings. If you pick him up he will rag doll and let you carry him around. Basically, Carlos is a cat who happens to talk.

Filing away the infiltration of the teachers' lounge for further investigation, Quark startled as Kenner jabbed a finger toward him. But he brightened right up again at the prospect of becoming a Master of Unlocking. Even the possibility of glitter in three hours couldn't daunt him.

When it was his turn to pick two items from the teacher's mysterious bag, he helped himself to the ones closest to hand. They happened to be a flashlight and some minipet treats.

He pondered the bug repellant and de-slimer through warily narrowed eyes before moving aside to let other students make their picks. Too late to worry about the implications now, he thought, shrugging off the concern. He'd just have to find some way through the slime and bugs if they turned up.

And then there was Carlos! She flails a bit to keep her balence as he landed on her she had managed to get Carlos off Brand but now said Cheshire Cat was climbing her like a tree something she was strangely getting used to as of late... She had won a minipet at the Carnival that did not grow into a rodent like she had hoped it would but rather a cat! Fortunately said Wishing Crown actually got along really well with her other minis and even were protective of them but one thing Camilla was learning about cats was whether your a tree or not if a cat wants to climb you they will

Because of being climbed on alot recently Camilla regained her balence fairly quickly and sighs playfully "Good marrow to you to Carlos" she says playfully then reaches up to scratch a ear it was good she had her balence back because Keen had started bouncing all around her feet before climbing her and going right up to Carlos the Dormouse ghoul's eyes widen and she holds her breath but true to his word Carlos didn't even try a nibble and Camilla let out a relieved sigh once Keen got down only to giggle a bit as the wispy ghoul transformed back which startled Carlos and made him climb up her just a bit higher which made her wobble some ...at least Brand seemed happy and Camilla was none the wiser to his bluff

Suddenly the teacher who brought everybody here started speaking and explaining the class "Breaking and Entering 101?" she parrots and flicks a ear curiously while thieving wasn't one of her planned career choices she figured getting in or out of a locked room would be a useful skill and the stealth was what she was really interested in besides didn't Ninja steal? She didn't plan on being a Ninja either but she was interested in their skills and abilities when the Werehyena explained the reason for this class then randomly points to her Camilla frowns she hadn't even heard of the break in much less took part in it and would have corrected him if she hadn't had a Cheshire Cat boil perched precariously on her shoulders

The claim that they'd disappear forever and the long dramatic pause after started to make the Dormouse ghoul reconsider the class not because of her own safety hey adventure could be dangerous! But more for Carlos's, Keen's, and Brand's however when he finally admited he was joking and said they'd just be spit out in glitter she relaxed Camilla could handle glitter

Finally the teacher finished explaining the class and told them to pick two items from his bag Camilla needed to wait u til Carlos got down before picking so instead she read the note Keen wrote "Announces a persons death... and transforms into animals to get around hm... I think iv heard of those... Ah! Your a Banshee!" she announces cheerfully being from a english like part of Halloween she naturally had heard of the wailing ghosts which announced a person's death it also explained the note pad and the ability to speak the rodent language without being a rodent

Brand made his selection first then Keen and finally Carlos got down (mercifully he was a light ghost) and made his selection she couldn't help but laugh as he played with the flashlight before stepping up to make her selection there were four choices some made more sense then others the flashlight seemed like a natural choice so she quickly picked up A dim Flashlight with a strange blue beam and like Carlos played around with it for a second even spot lighting the blue kitty with it for a moment before laughing playfully and looking at the remaining items

When her eyes fell on the minipet treats the Dormouse ghoul got a slight look of distane "Cheap..." she mutters towards the treats when it came to minipet products she actually was a bit of a snob she saw nothing wrong with other people buying them as she knew most didn't have the money she had but she wasn't about to feed anything cheap food so she automatically crossed those off her list and moved on to the Industrial strength de-slimer as proven eariler Camilla wasn't overly concerned about her cloths as long as they weren't totally destroyed she could just get them fixed and she could think why else she might need it so she crossed that off

So finally she came to the Bug Repellent because she had several bug type minipets her prefered method of dealing with bugs was repeling them rather then killing them so the Bug Repellent seemed like the best choice so with that she grabs the can and rejoins the group "Got my stuff!" she announces a bit excitedly as her eagerness for the class started to return

Brand, now that he wasn't being crawled all over and he had his fancy loot, was content to simply nod and smile at all of his companions. He had a group, and that was all he ever wanted: to be surrounded with company. Brand hated being alone, so this was perfect; as a new student, he was worried he'd have a hard time dealing with that.

"Yes, lots of fun," he said, nodding and smiling to no one in particular and all of his new friends at once. He reached into his coat, shook the smelling salts around, and sighed. "I wish I hadn't taken these, now life is so.... real," he said, with a frown. He didn't have anything to set himself into a trance, here; none of his smoke, or anything. Sensory deprivation would be too much to swing.

He was going into this dreadedly sober, which meant without half his powers.

Amarus was thoroughly excited by the prospect of breaking into something. She walked forward and selected the minipet treats and the bug repellent.

Van, who felt ENTIRELY REJECTED by Aisha, decided to go it alone!! He booked it over to the dude giving the stuff away, and he wished he could just get LOTS of minipet treats. Instead, he picked up the minipet treats and reluctantly also grabbed the bug repellent. He didn't like the idea of trying to get rid of bugs with his tail :'(

You can't break and enter unless you break something.

Kenner liked the sound of that. He let go of the supply bag, trusting that the students could reach in and grab what they liked, within reason, and pulled out his eyePhone, immortalizing Pokerus's quotation for all time, or at least until the next time he lost his phone.

When he was done, he looked to the portal. It was time to go. Almost.

"Five more minutes!" he shouted. He began counting the seconds in his head.

- - -

Kenner takes the lead, stepping through the portal and waving at the class to follow. As you pass through, you learn firsthand that any flickers of what lay beyond it that you might have seen while you were waiting were truthful. It is dark here, and a crumbling two-story house rises before you, just the right amount of fog floating at its foundation. Oddly enough, you can't see anything beyond the house itself, no neighborhood, no moon, no people. Just a purplish-black blankness. It's almost like a movie set.

The path immediately on the other side of the portal is clear, but the closer it gets to the house, the more obstructed by vines it grows. A clearer path breaks off of this one and runs around to the back of the house. There are two windows that seem accessible as well: one on the ground floor opposite the front door, and one upstairs at the end of a sturdy looking trellis.

"Step one," Kenner says, stopping at the start of the vines. "Get inside." He gestures at the house, handing each student a sturdy lockpick as they pass.

If you are new to the class, start at the bottom of the first post!

If you posted an introduction, but missed responding to yesterday's update (item picking), please follow the instructions at the bottom of this post before continuing below!

Time to enter the house! Your characters may stick together simply by going inside through the same entrance.

Choose your entrance:

1: the upstairs window
2: the front window
3: the front door
4: the back door

In order to get in, each character must roll 1d10 in each post where they are attempting to open the lock until they get a 5 or over. (One die per attempt, please!) If your character attended Breaking and Entering 101, they pass with a 4 or greater instead.

Once you are inside, you will find yourself in the room below that corresponds to how you entered the house. For now, any other locks you find inside won't budge no matter what you do, nor will any of your items do anything particularly helpful. (The items are for the next set of rooms.)

The upstairs window
(The bedroom.) You find yourself entering a fairly standard bedroom... two hundred years ago. An ornate, four-poster bed stands in the corner to your left, there is a vanity and dresser to your right, and although nothing is dusty or stained, everything here is the definition of ancient. And it's still dark.

Besides the window you entered through (which is now mysteriously unopenable, even though people keep coming through it), there are three doors leading out of here, but one has been sealed shut so thoroughly that it can hardly be called a door anymore. One of the others is a hatch in the floor that smells faintly of gunpowder. The last is just a door. It's slightly cooler than the others.

[ the bedroom ]

The front window
(The living room.) This room is so dark that you can't even find the window you just came through. If you have a flashlight and switch it on, nothing happens. If you're naturally bioluminescent or can see in the dark, NOPE. Doesn't work here.

If anyone is inclined to feel along the walls, they might come across two locked doors on opposite sides of the room. The cracks around one of the doors smell like freshly tilled earth. The other is wide, tall, and made of metal. At the center of the room you think there might be a sofa, a plush armchair, and a coffee table, but you're not entirely certain.

The front door
(The hall.) As soon as you pick the lock and enter the front hall, the door slams shut, trapping you inside. Somehow, people keep milling in behind you even so. There is no furniture in here, but every inch of wall space in this narrow room is covered by a door. Big doors, small doors, round doors, triangle-shaped doors, all of them locked. The room is bright enough to see in but still fairly dim.

[ the hall ]

The back door
(The kitchen.) The back door leads into the kitchen, a surprisingly well-lit and cheerful space. Every flat surface is covered with what looks like delicious food. Unfortunately (or fortunately, if you're into that), when you try to eat any of it, you find it is actually all plastic. It seems there are no doors here at all once you're inside, but there is a very prominent refrigerator. There are other appliances lining the walls, but none of them are functional.

Surrounding a tiled island in the center of the room are several tall stools where you may sit and eat your plastic food.

Lou had succeeded in staying out of the squabble and making herself go unnoticed on the sidelines, she didn't relish being the center of attention. When the grumpy teacher stepped forward to explain what was going on she listened carefully, hoping that maybe she'd pick up something worthwhile.

Apparently someone, or a group of someones, had broken into the teacher lounge recently. Lou couldn't imagine why anyone would want to do that, but she imagined it had gone poorly. But only three hours to make it through the house and the locks? Lou didn't know the first thing about opening locks. She sighed heavily, wings fluttering with nervous energy.

She lingered at the back of the group huddled around the supply bag, too shy to barge into the jumble of people scrambling for the tools. When it finally came her way she reached blindly into the bag and pulled out bug repellent!

Oh no! She blached, and, holding the noxious stuff at arms length, dropped it into her knapscak. Not a good choice for a moth monster! Another drive into the bag produced a bottle of industrial strength de-slimer. What did bug repellent and de-slimer have to with opening locks?

She added the slime remover to her bag, and handed the supplies off into the next pair of eager hand, then went to join the crowd of students milling around by the portal.

Entering the portal, Sludge gazed around his new surrounds with wonder, enjoying the darkness that this place provided. Excellent cover, and the fog would help as well. He was then given a strange tool, a long sharp pointy thing.

He looked back at teacher. What was he supposed to do with this? He then turned towards the house and walked/crawled around it to the back door with the strange tool in hand.

With a glance at the lock, then at the lockpick, he figured it must go in the lock as it was kinda like those key things. Except when he put it in it didn't unlock.

Somehow, The xenomorph was able to figure out how to move the pick just right to unlock the lock. He then entered the room and proceeded in eating the food that was laid out. It didn't seem to bother him that it was made from plastic.

For some reason, seeing the teacher take out his phone and type something on it made Pokerus grin in satisfaction.

Soon enough they were all asked to step through the portal to a stock standard halloween house. Complete with fog curling at the edges.

The dragon growled softly, the fog making her uneasy as it reminded her of the insanity kind of fog. Yet she was fairly certain this wasn't the same stuff.

After being given a lockpick, she wasted no time in grasping the vines and climbing up the side to the upstairs window, then using the lockpick with surprising efficiency, opened the window and slipped inside.

Ther appeared to be a number of doors, but for now she just sat on the bed and waited for further instructions.

Lusine didn't really like the look of land on the other side of the portal. The lack of moon and stars was disconcerting, at the very least. She took the strange metal object from the professor, and trudged up the path toward the downstairs window, scraping herself on a thorny vine in the process.

She was the first one there. The lower window was old, dusty, grimy, and unfortunately closed. She smeared through the grim with her hand and tried to peer inside. Nothing but darkness. Bracing both hands against the glass, she pushed the window open. It raised with a long creeeeek and not too much difficulty.

With agility that surprised even her, she gabbed the windowsill and hefted herself up, fluttering her wings and trying to gain leverage. She was wiggling her body over seal and into the room when something touched her antennae. She let out a small shriek and fell head-first into the room, landing in a heap. She's bumped what she thought might be an armchair.

The room was pitch black. "Careful on your way in!" She called out to the darkness behind her. Her eyes weren't doing a very good job adapting to the new light (or lack of light) but she thought she could make out at least one door on the other side of the room.

Camilla had just pocketed the can of bug repellent and the flashlight when the teacher spoke up again and told them it was time to enter the portal "Ah! Time to go!" she says excitedly becoming full of vim and vigor once more "C'mon!" she calls eagerly to her small group then wasted little time in following Kenner through

When she got to the other side Camilla stood looking in awe at the old house it actually reminded her of some of the older houses she'd seen outside of Mouseshire and the fog which curled around her feet didn't bother her a bit! Infact she felt quite comfortable in it which was no surprise considering Mouseshire itself was covered in fog a good part of the year

She was snapped from her awe as the Werehyena told them their first task was getting in then shoved a lockpick in her hand a logical enough step however Camilla had no prior thieving skills and while she heard of a lockpick she had never seen one so the Dormouse ghoul spent a minute or two just looking over the tool it looked simple enough and she was almost surprised it could open locks at all but when she thought about it Keys were just as simple

Finally she pockets the lockpick then looks at her entry options however the moment she lays eyes on the second story window she knew that's where she wanted to go in because climbing! She also saw a Dragon ghoul go that way too and get right in so with that Camilla was off! She bounced right up to the vines and easily climbed them and the trellis like it were nothing before finding herself at the now locked again window

The Dormouse ghoul then pulls the lockpick out of her pocket and incerts it into the lock thinking it'd work just like a key might unfortunately nothing happened it would have helped if she had put the lockpick in right side up... and now she was having a bit of trouble getting it back out again... "Oh dear..." she mutters before finally jerking it out she also in her excitement had stopped to consider if her companions were good at climbing...

(figures id finally get to roll and get a 1 XD)
