A (Fish) Tale of Two Worlds (ZellyxM3G)

Kai had been staying in a guest room of course, so he was partially curious about Fiona's room, though he was also quite oblivious to the connotations of being alone with a member of the opposite sex in their room. He looked around in awe and wonder, rather like he'd just walked into a castle.

Where Kai was oblivious to the stigma of it, Fiona was outright uncaring. She knew she was innocent of anything sexy in every aspect but her fantasies, and she felt she hadn't done anything truly worth hiding. Once they'd arrived, she let go of his hand to approach her vanity, seeming to be searching for something. Before long she found what she had been looking for, a tiny white box with intricate golden designs of a flowery nature covering it. It had a little golden turnkey on the side, marking it as a particularly small music box. After some inspection she turned about to face Kai once more, holding the childhood treasure out to her dearest childhood friend. Or at least, that's what she considered him. "It ain't nothin' big, but maybe this is a good start?"

Kai's heart pounded a bit as he tenderly held the box, as though he was about to open a treasure he'd spent his whole life searching for (in a sense, he was.) He gently turned the key a few times before opening the lid, a tiny little ballerina popping up to pirhouette to the tinkling tune the box put out. "...It's even more beautiful than it is in the sea." he smiled brightly at Fiona, the gentle tune the only other sound in the room.

After a moment more of thought, Fiona offered a tender smile. "You may keep it, if ya like." It was something she had always valued and cared for, a gift from her grandmother before her untimely demise. It was a soothing reminder during lonely nights that she wouldn't be alone, that everything would turn out okay no matter what. She would personally never tell the tale, as she was certain he wouldn't be willing to take something with so much meaning. It was Fiona's silent hope that, should he take it, it would offer him the same comfort it had for her over the years.

"Are you sure? I don't want you handing things over just because I'm a curious hoarder for all things human." Kai said as he looked down at the music box, then back to Fiona as the tune, as well as the ballerina figure, slowed to a stop.

 

[M3Gnificent]

"Naw, it's a token of friendship. Just take good care of it, and it's yours." Fiona gave a small shrug as she continued, "You'll certainly get better use of it than I will, I think."

 

[Zelly-fangirl]

"Alright, if you're sure." Kai said as he gently closed the lid. Now he wanted to give her something in return, though he wasn't sure what he could possibly give. Soon he mentally decided that he'd try to go out one night and scour the ocean floor for a bit of rare beauty, or bring something up from a wreck whenever they went out exploring as they often talked of doing.

Fiona was quiet for a moment, thinking of what to do next before what she felt to be a great idea hit her with a mallet. Or, at least, a great idea she remembered from earlier. "Do merfolk have pianos?" she asked, once again taking on a cheery grin.

 

[Zelly-fangirl]

"Not really. Percussion is about the only sort of instrument that works down there." Kai said with a small chuckle. "I've seen a few, though none of them really worked underwater."

 

[M3Gnificent]

"Well, would you like to hear what one sounds like?" she asked, her head tilted slightly to the side as she waited for his answer. It was, unfortunately, the only thing she could play without sounding like a dying walrus. Fiona figured herself pretty skilled with it, even if she was no Beethoven.

 

[Zelly-fangirl]

"For both our sakes, just assume that my response to seeing anything here on land will be a resounding 'yes'." Kai smiled brightly as he set the music box back on her vanity, not wanting to tote something so delicate around while she showed him the human wonders.

 

[M3Gnificent]

{I'm starting to approach block. Should we ride this one out, or use it as a good excuse to lead into a timeskip?}

Fiona eagerly took Kai's hand the moment she was able, ready to lead him towards the music room and show off one of her many talents.

((Timeskip. Can be her guardians wanting to know their merguest better, Kai's big musical number, or some exploration on their part/sea witch comes looking for Kai))

So began Fiona's campaign to show Kai all the wonders of the surface world that she could think of, naturally taking his requests into account at every opportunity. She did her absolute best to be a gracious host, and indeed, seemed thrilled to call herself that. Her grandfather and mother, unfortunately, had become more inquisitive of late - both of which beginning to suspect that Fiona felt something more than mere friendship for the lad. Of course, not being quite prepared just yet to handle a heart to heart with them concerning her friend, she had requested that Kai come with her to the beach so that she might get her mind off of such concerns for the moment being. Hell, she hadn't outright said it, but it was quite clear that she was hoping to do more than just swim near the shoreline.

Kai made continuous glances to Fiona as they headed to the beach. "You're certainly in a good mood today? You're really looking forward to this, aren't you?" He had no intention of going back on his promise, and assumed she had his apparently goregous voice on her mind the whole time, simply eager to hear him sing. Of course, as one of the merfolk, he didn't quite see how this would be special at all, as everyone had a good singing voice. It was genetic to the species, or something. He was a little shy, but a promise was a promise.
