[ Sorry I'm joining really late- my internet's been out the past few days~ ]
Lock had definitely been there the whole time. He was just ... towards the outside of the web. In the shadows. Because he was a shadowmaster. Yes.
He eyed the new teacher somewhat warily. When he'd heard there was to be a defense class he was immediately more interested. Ever since the horseman attack he'd been much more on edge and constantly looking for new ways to better himself competitively.
(Tragically, Lock was a stick and would never be very useful in battles beyond healing).
Either way, he was there, being quiet and watching. Waiting.

"You got it, teach~!" She passed a curious look at the boil that seemed to give friendpai Tajana pause, blinked, and shrugged it off. Inwardly of course--outwardly she was too busy sparkling, even moreso when Amrita and Lock showed up.
"Ahhhh, hey there! I gotta graduate!" she told the ghoul with a little bounce. "Means suckin' it up, haha. But I wouldn't miss anything Tajana's got to say, right?"Right? Even if it is...spiders...
"LOOOOOOCK!" She waved her friend over enthusiastically. "Come sit with the cool kids! You too, newbie!" she added with a wink at the hesitant looking reaper.

He laughed a little as Hoofy looked puzzled over eating ribbons. "Is easy!" After all, he'd literally eaten some ghoul's hat on his first day there; fabric was nothing to his iron gut.
Wrex easily lost himself in the hubbub as more students crowded into the net, but he did have sharp enough ears for one thing: treats. Some boil near Damaris apparently had some which, well, was good enough for him.
Grinning, he wrapped his large, spike-filled tail around both them and poor Hoofy which he'd helped earlier and wiggled in place, excited even if he wasn't quite sure for what yet. But a lot of people had to mean a lot of good things, right? Maybe they would divide the spiders among them or something. He hoped he didn't get stuck with a fang or something...Spider teeth was just awful.
"Food?" he posed to them all, which was as close to hello as the boil usually got.

Lock pulled out a notebook and began writing, trying to ignore both Piper's shrill voice and just how high up they were.

Damien had not seen those eyes in awhile. They were the eyes of a madghoul gone wild. -WITH HUNGER.
Damien folded his ears and gave Cady a pout before fishing out the rations from his pocket. "At least this time, you're not trying to chase us down in your beep beep Jeep." He admitted, forking over the wrapped candy bar.

AJ's question was met with a level stare. "It would. Spider thread is used in some of the strongest clothing and armor. Your question is appropriate, as this is part of what our class will be dealing with today."
She twitched with annoyance at the sound of screaming, and sobbing, but otherwise made no comment. This was why she'd been loathe to even consider teaching, in the past. Scarelings were so.. loud. Noisy. Prone to messes and fits of emotion. She shuddered at the thought.
"Thank you, Madame Amrita." The professor seemed especially interested in their newest guest, the alumni who'd come all this way to see her first lesson. She even managed a smile, though it was something softer, more personal than what she'd attempted before. It almost seemed natural.
Almost.
The smile died on her lips when Cady asked about eating her spiders. She, and several of her arachnid companions, tensed with anger at the ghoul's loud comments. "One. Stop screaming. Two, my friends are no more or less for eating than you are. Do not consider it, lest we consider you."
Belittling comments made by scarelings were now ignored. Tajana turned to focus, settling down on the web and starting her lesson without any request for silence, or attention. Should the students fail to pay attention to her speaking, they would simply not be able to complete the class assignment, and fail the class without delay. Her goal was not to force them to learn, but to give them the chance.
So she began.
"This class is about being able to protect yourself when you are in dire need. It will be completely hands on. I have provided the materials, and the challenge. You will be able to practice with your own skills and choices, and hopefully learn from them. If not, then perhaps you will die alone in a forest one day. I cannot say."
Cheerful to the end.
She pointed down to the ground, several feet away from the web. "You'll find your materials there. There is leather, which is obtainable by tanning the hide of a dead creature. In case of an emergency, this can be done by clearing the hide of any flesh and hair, scraping the hide with a dull knife, and then drying it. Leather that you procure from a retail store has been synthetically treated to look appealing, but if you're out on your own, no such method would be available to you. You do what you can."
"On the right, there are solid pieces of bark. These can be used as armor, especially when you need something fast. Tearing the bark off of a tree is not easy, but it will serve you well for a short period of time. However, they are the most degradable of the materials, as they splinter and break easily - and will wither and rot in no time."
"Across from these, you will find curved pieces of metal. These can be used as crude breastplates. Metal needs to be superheated in order to bend, but there are a number of different kinds of metals and hard substances in this world. Which one you pick will affect the strength of your armor, as well as how easily it will be molded to your purpose. For this exercise, there is simple steel. Hard, but heavy."
She ran her fingers along the string of web beside her. "There is a fourth choice, of course. These spiders will be helping you with your challenge, but they are also able to provide you with a method of protection. Spider web is some of the strongest thread known to our kind. This is being proven as we speak, as it holds all of you up. These spiders will provide you with thread, if you ask them nicely. My spiders are trained to create a thin, tightly woven sheet. Each of you will have a spider assisting you with your challenge, whether you ask them for this material or not - because once you have chosen your armor, it will be tested with their attack."
She might have paused just a little too long after explaining this, if only because the horror of what she'd said was clearly amusing her.
"They will be attacking dummies that you will place your chosen armor on. These dummies are located two yards to the east, in clumps of two or three. Your challenge is to successfully armor a dummy in order to survive an attack from one of my spiders. Your choice and placement will determine whether you pass or fail. Do not return to me until you have succeeded in this task."
THE CHALLENGE
Mechanics A very well behaved 8 foot spider will follow each of you to your dummy, and attack it when you give it the command. (If you are comfortable, it will let you ride it.) You can roleplay doing this with others, as the dummies are close to one another, but you may only roll for your own dummy. Your dummy has 25 hp Roll depending on what material you've chosen. The list is below. The total of your rolls is how hard the spider has attacked. Your dummy must survive with at least 1 HP in order to succeed this challenge. If you fail, pick another dummy and try again. You may come back to the web to change material choices, but this must be roleplayed. Roleplay this challenge in at least 400 words. (This includes any failures. Any rolled post you make counts towards this word count.) Once you have succeeded, you may continue to roll for fun (but these will not count towards your 400 word count.) or you may return to the web to chat with your fellow students / teacher. New students are welcome to join in the class even now, but please quote me if you are new after this point so I notice that you've joined, thank you! Questions? PM me!

Damaris should have expected such a thing from her carnivorous friend as the tail encircled her and AJ to get them closer to Wrex. She had to release AJ's hand to keep herself steady with the bag of spookies in her other hand.
The deer ghoul held onto one of Wrex's tail spikes until they were rather close to reptilian boil. Even she couldn't help but chuckle a little at the familiar gesture of her friend's tail. "It is good to see you too, Wrex," She reached into the bag and offered several spookies out on her hand and, took a small chance in grasping one of Wrex's hand and placed the spookies on his palms. "Here you go."
As their teacher began to explain the teachings, her eyes darted about the mentioned arachnids. So... They were to 'help' them? Okay... Damaris was sure she was going to be the absolute worst at this class, for sure. But maybe this would help her with her fear of spiders. Maybe...
After the explanation, her heart was about ready to burst from her chest. The deer ghoul was getting the impression that their teacher was more than a little amused at their faces, especially with Damaris's returning wide-eyed stare and slight tremor.
"W-w-well... S-suppose we should s-start...?" She looked up at AJ then to Wrex and the ghoul beside him.
Rojo was strangely silent following Tajana's arrival. He sat quietly, watching the spider woman interact with her charges as she explained what they were to do. Then, when it seemed her instructions had come to an end, the skeleton shot to his feet and zipped past his new sphinx friend and Torsten and Mellow and all the rest, launching himself onto the back of one of the spiders closest to the dummies.
"VAUDREY! DEFEND WITH ME!" he shouted back at the boil, and then he was off, hastily draping butt silk over his dummy while still astride the spider. Most of the strands ended up looped around everyone's heads—Rojo's, the spider's, and the dummy's—in fanciful curls, which was less than effective when he finally asked the spider to attack. The dummy very nearly exploded, and its "armor" fluttered to the ground as Rojo innocently sidled away.
If there was anything that could be good about the situation, it was that Jason could recover fast. Already his eyes were opening at the wailing coming from the fairy nearby, and with hurried movements and stuttered apologies, he pushed himself off Yuki's lap and looked around, frightened of course but also clearly embarrassed from, you know, passing out in someones lap.
He wasn't exactly sure why the girl was crying though, and even reached out with a shaking hand as if he could somehow comfort her. "E-e-r, M-miss? A-are you-"
He saw out of the corner of his eye the teacher was moving to the center of the web, and as much as he didn't like to look at such a frighting creature (Yes Zanth she is frightening no Zanth I will not focus on that particular area to calm down - seriously shut up I'm not doing that), he could tell the class was about to start, and began to listen to the instructions. His fretful shaking increased upon mention that the armor they were to procure would be tested by the spiders. Oh, s**t he was so screwed, they were going to attack him and he would be eaten alive by spiders. Not to mention threatening to reveal his identity as golems could not fight back.
But then the professor continued, and Jason sighed in relief. Okay, so he wasn't screwed. But he would still have a very large spider following him which made things just as bad.
Glancing at the ghost boil next to him, he was tempted to ask if they could team up, but with a rather intimidating (and glowing) glare from the fairy he decided it might be safer to go solo, and scuttled to the edge of the web.
Getting down involved much shouting from the vampire ghoul as she managed to get stuck a few times, but with some 'coaxing', from the large spider, Jason descended down the tree with gusto. It wasn't so much climbing down as falling down but hey he got to the bottom.
It didn't take him long to decide which armor he wanted. Considering this was supposed to be practical, he considered bark to his best choice. Readily available compared to the other items, and easy enough to get. Picking up some of the bark available, he walked over to the dummies and went about securing it, doing his best to ignore the spider patiently waiting for him to finish.
"U-umm...O-okay." He stood back, then moved a bit more just in case, and awkwardly motioned for the spider to attack. As soon as the spider moved he was running away with a shriek.
Sadly his armor didn't work too well, and he cried knowing he would have to try again.
