LandingLauthisenRESERVEDImportant MemoriesFirelizardsRoleplaysMisc

Name: Lauthisen
Age: 24 Turns
Nameday: 3553.08.13
Sex: Male
Sexual Orientation: Who knoooowws.
Craft: N/A
Rank: Candidate Junior Weyrling
Location: Western High Reaches
Physical Description: 5'11", lean, and pale. Lauthisen has amber colored eyes and dark, shaggy hair. Smiles are very rare for him, and he often looks serious--or pretty pissed off. He has a long face, and if he lightened up a little, he'd be very handsome.... but it works out if you're into that mysterious thing.

Personality: At first glance, Lauthisen comes off as a cold, uncaring individual who keeps to himself. In truth, he regards people with suspicion, believing everyone has some sort of motive that they're working towards. He has no interest in opening himself up and exposing his vulnerable parts just for someone to stab him in the back for their own gain, thanks. He's a quiet fellow, often not seeing a reason to speak to people unless there's something he needs--and if he needs something, he isn't shy about speaking up. People mistake his silence and lone-wolf tendencies as a lack of confidence, but this just isn't the case. Lauthisen is very comfortable in his own skin and his abilities, almost to the point of arrogance. It's a quiet arrogance, true, but if someone were to insult him or his work, it would be a surefire way to get him bristling.

From a young age, being more quiet and standoffish allowed him to observe people more easily--a skill that he's only continued to develop as he's grown. Lauthisen sees no point in rushing into things until he can properly assess the situation. When setting himself on a task, he expects no less than the best for himself, and will not waver in completing it. Despite his antisocial tendencies, he has no issues in working with others to finish a project--he may just silently assume he knows best and will take charge to make certain it's completed in a way that he finds to be satisfactory.

Though Lauthisen is a loner by nature, he isn't necessarily a cruel person. No, he won't go to comfort someone who's already surrounded by concerned individuals.... but should he find someone on their own and clearly upset? Well. He may linger and talk to them quietly, just to make sure they're alright. On the flip side, if someone insults him? Lauthisen won't forget it, and has no interest in forgiveness. Oh, he can work with someone who he has a grudge against... but he'll be icy, and just barely respectful.

Having seen the actions of many candidates upon the Hatching Sands, and having been thoroughly mauled by a baby made upset through said actions of candidates, Lauthisen is openly scornful and critical of others. He has an extremely low tolerance for what he perceives to be blatant stupidity. It isn't that everyone needs to be a genius, but when there are those who suddenly seem to forget all the rules that have been hammered into them time and time again? He won't hesitate to tear them apart with his words. He's not nearly dying because they are idiots, thanks. On the flip side, those rare few individuals who can earn his respect and wiggle under his barriers? Well, Lauthisen will have their back. No, that doesn't mean he'll agree with everything they say or think, but true friendship isn't about that, anyway!

In the end, this man prefers to hang on the outskirts of what others consider to be fun and lively events. He's comfortable with himself and who he is--and he doesn't need people to change that.

Positive Trait List Observant, diligent, confident, loyal.
Negative Trait List Wary, overproud, holds grudges, critical.

History: Lauthisen came from a hold that specialized in breeding caprines--but he had little love for the craft. No one begrudged him when he was Searched at age 15 and came to Western, though Candidate pools were much smaller then. Golds were still clutching, and they needed warm bodies for their eggs! Lauthisen quickly took to Weyr life, learning what he could about dragons and how a Weyr functioned. He worked hard to pull his own weight, refusing to be a burden.

Then Thread returned, and no one ever expected it. Though Western suffered terrible losses, the dragonriders moved swiftly to recover and take action. Lauthisen could not help but foster a bitterness in his heart for those who refused to return to the Weyrs to help defend Pern--and to this day, unaffiliated dragons and their riders earn his open disdain. He treats Candidates who don't seem to take their roles seriously with equal venom. They know what is expected of them upon signing up, and the ones who manage to Impress with the intention of leaving....? It makes him want to spit.

After being mauled by a green during the hatching of Magic Clutch, Lauthisen's confidence was sorely shaken... unbeknownst to him. His damaged shoulder healed eventually, and with extensive physical therapy, he has regained full use of it. However, the young man began to do poorly in Candidate lessons, failing tests and not doing well in his chores. The Candidatemaster, Danzik, eventually pulled him aside, and had him work on bathing her Eosphoth. Slowly, not even realizing he'd been traumatized, Lauthisen began to work through his problems by interacting with the gentle green and her no-nonsense rider.

Lauthisen has worked through the worst of his trauma after the attack, he has become extremely aggressive towards Candidates who don't follow the rules. Despite how long he's been Standing, he hasn't gotten discouraged at all. His dragon is out there, and Lauthisen it content to wait.

Blue Othelloth

Origin of Name: Friesians have also become popular in the film and entertainment industry. The breed owes much of its current popularity to the stallion Othello, who appeared in the 1985 film Ladyhawke. Other films that have used Friesian horses include Eragon, The Mask of Zorro, and 300. They are also commonly seen in live entertainment shows such as circus acts and exhibitions.

It is in honor of Othello that Othelloth derives his name.

Inspiration: Fresian

The Friesian (also Frizian) is a horse breed originating in Friesland, in the Netherlands. Although the conformation of the breed resembles that of a light draught horse, Friesians are graceful and nimble for their size. It is believed that during the Middle Ages, ancestors of Friesian horses were in great demand as war horses throughout continental Europe. Through the Early Middle Ages and High Middle Ages, their size enabled them to carry a knight in armour. In the Late Middle Ages, heavier, draught type animals were needed. Though the breed nearly became extinct on more than one occasion, the modern day Friesian horse is growing in numbers and popularity, used both in harness and under saddle. Most recently, the breed is being introduced to the field of dressage.

The Friesian breed is most often recognized by its black coat colour, however, colour alone is not the only distinguishing characteristic; Friesians are occasionally chestnut as some bloodlines do carry the "red" ('e') gene. In the 1930s, chestnuts and bays were seen. Friesians rarely have white markings of any kind; most registries allow only a small star on the forehead for purebred registration. To be accepted as breeding stock by the FPS studbook (Friesch Paarden Stamboek), a stallion must pass a rigorous approval process.

Friesians are incredibly versatile and willing, and although they are large in stature they are known for their elegance and high-stepping gait. This makes them ideal for use as harness horses, creating a powerful, agile, and flashy driving team. They are becoming increasingly popular as dressage horses due to their power, movement, and body control. They are also great all-around horses and have gentle dispositions.

Personality: This blue dragon is certainly the son of the Emperor and Empress, and could easily consider himself a little lord if he saw fit to claim such a thing. Ever the regal beast, he doesn't let the fact that he's only a blue stop him from walking through life as if he might well be the next Weyrleader. He knows that his blood is of a strong lineage, and he the great-grandson of greatness. Everything about his carriage screams importance, and as far as this blue is concerned, it's true. He IS important, he IS powerful, and he IS as good as he thinks himself to be. Oh, one needn't ever think Othelloth has forgotten his place; though he might be of proud bearing, he is the sort of dragon who understands the rules and how to play the game. He knows he will be given little due to the color of his hide, but that won't break his spirit or bring him down. Power doesn't save one from Thread after all; being a Wingleader doesn't cause threadscore to heal any faster, and being Weyrleader doesn't somehow lessen the chance of injury or death. He knows he will never have title or rank, but that doesn't mean he can't be a Big Damn Hero. Not every hero's story is sung, after all.

Othelloth is here to save Pern from its enemies, and at this point, the Enemy is Thread. Even as a weyrling, this dragon is chomping at the bit to spit flame and assist the wings. He wants to fight, not for glory or honor or praise, but because it's simply the right thing to do. He isn't afraid of death, and his rider shouldn't be either. They will make a glorious pair, ready to serve the Weyr they were hatched from, and to protect their loved ones and the innocent of Pern. No matter how bleak the outcome seems, Othelloth will face it down fearlessly. He's a courageous creature, and will helpfully throw himself into harms way so as to save those who cannot save themselves. Even when the odds are stacked against him, this blue will face them down without hesitation or concern. His bravery knows no bounds.

It isn't just Thread that Othelloth is willing to fight--he's ready to take on his riders burdens as his own, or his dearest loves. Whatever battle they might be fighting, Othelloth will interfere on their behalf. They can call on him and he will do what is right and good and have little care for who he must take down in the process. He is here to ensure his might is used for right.. And that is where things can get complicated.

Othelloth is a vengeful creature, and does not forget slights against him, his rider, or his loved ones particularly well. Should his rider have a falling out with a wingmate or lover, Othelloth will likely turn upon them without so much as a second thought. Continue to harass them, and he will deal with the problem personally. Snapping, snarling, intimidating, even threatening--Othelloth can turn into the same sort of bully he hates. Once you're off his good list, you will likely struggle to ever find yourself back upon it. He can be quite black-and-white and will not hesitate to seek out some form of retaliation or revenge. If his rider doesn't keep Othelloth in mind, he will do what he can to ensure his enemies (perceived or otherwise) get theirs--and sometimes he'll act without knowing the full story. An eye for the eye, as the saying goes--and this blue is happy to remove it himself.

Any who find themselves on Othelloth's naughty list will find that they know it long before vengeance has been had. This blue is a very opinionated creature, especially when angered, and has no problem letting his thoughts be known. He can't help but feel as if his views are the right views, and will certainly give every attempt to get others to agree with him. Battles, after all, aren't always physical in nature--and Othelloth is only too happy to have a battle of wits and words.

The ends justify the means, after all, and Othelloth is the sort of blue who is happy to do what he must to get his way. Usually, Othelloth's intentions are pure, but getting the results he wants can lead him down some questionable paths if his rider isn't careful to keep him in check. His need for vengeance and retaliation can have him do things he wouldn't otherwise be proud to do; his rider will need to make sure this blue doesn't do anything rash or doesn't attempt to use individuals for his own gain.

To make matters worse, Othelloth will gain the reputation of not just being a little lord, but he'll become ever the charmer as he ages. He will find he has a silver tongue when he must, and he'll not hesitate to ooze charm. Even his insults will begin to sound like compliments, for he will know how to craft words, and blind others with his confidence and allure. He'll never lack a coterie of lovers and admirers--and he'll take male or female alike under his wing and into his claws. Othelloth will give into their desires, something he's only too happy to do--especially if there's something he wants from them, or worse, needs them for.

His charm isn't always used in such scheming ways, and he can be genuinely charismatic. He certainly doesn't go out of his way to be rude or offend, and will happily enjoy capturing his clutchmates, and eventual wingmates, intrigue. And why shouldn't he? You catch more flies with honey than vinegar and Othelloth is blessed with an arsenal of both.

Positive Traits: Courageous, Charming, Regal
Negative Traits: Machiavellian, Opinionated, Vengeful

Ding-Dong Bell Egg: A large egg whose shell is quite firm to the touch.

Adult Size: 32'
Physical Attributes: Being a substantially large blue, it might surprise the world that Othelloth is surprisingly swift and nimble. He's more lean than bulky, and while in the air it is clear he is just as agile as some of his smaller kin. His legs are long, and his neck ridges a bit thicker when compared to an average dragon.

Additional Notes: Othelloth's charm means he'll wind up getting himself into trouble as he ages. No dragon is off limits to him--whether they be happily-mated or of metallic hide. He'll enjoy the thrill of the chase during Flights, but will be discerning about who he goes after. Sometimes it's for a reason (perhaps to get his rider companionship, or simply because it would elevate his status in some fashion) but rarely is it ever for true-love.

It will take time to catch this blue's hearts--for many might think they will have him ensnared, but more often than not, it's a simple dalliance on this blue's part. He doesn't go out of his way to break hearts, but finding his true life's companion could well take time.

Until then, he'll enjoy the bounty the Weyr offers, and then some.

Impression Effect: Lauthisen will lose his suspicion of others, and gain a newfound swagger instead. There is no need to be suspicious with his dragon near--no need to worry about any one betraying his trust, or some secret motive, for he has found a true champion in Othelloth. If weyrling training is all about connections, he'll now be far more easily able to make them.

Why Me? Lauthisen (Tsunake)

Othelloth had been entirely unimpressed with the offerings given at the Touching, but he always knew that Lauthisen was the best of the bunch, by far. Lauthisen's proud nature was an immediate draw to this blue, who would expect nothing less in a rider of his. If anything, this blue will be an enabler, encouraging His to stand as tall as any bronzerider. He's no longer just a simple Candidate, or a lowly beastcrafter--he is His, and Othelloth's ambitious nature will ensure that Pern knows both their names.

Like rider like dragon, it doesn't serve one well to get on their bad side. Lauthisen's ability to hold a grudge will only be that much worse when paired with Othelloth's. Any who cross this pair might well find themselves in a world of trouble. That said, it's clear that Lauthisen's loyalty isn't blind, which means he could help temper Othelloth at his absolute worst. While it's one thing to hold a grudge or get back at those who do them wrong, this blue dragon can go a bit too far. Lauthisen will be strong enough, and observant enough, to know when it's time to keep his blue in check.

Additionally, Lauthisen is known to be an asocial creature, which is where Othelloth will have an immediate effect. This blue is far form being a hermit, and will expect to live a life out in the open, with a gaggle of admirers, and charm to spare. He will help Lauthisen branch out with others, and make worthy and meaningful connections; as he grows, his charm should rub off on Lauthisen as well. On the flipside, Lauthisen should be able temper Othelloth from taking gross advantage of more simple-minded or unobservant sorts. The ends justify the means for this blue, but Lauthisen's isn't cruel, which means he can keep his dragon from doing something they both might regret.

While it's possible these two will find themselves in a whole world of trouble, it's equally possible they might find themselves on top of the world.
