A Green! Goran watched the small baby tumble out and onto the sands, his eyes wide. He'd never seen a dragon hatch before, and this... had been quite vigorous. Before he could find himself too enamored with the enthusiastic creature, the purple egg he'd touched before suddenly split with a noise that could only be described as delighted.
A blue... Shards, they really were just popping out one by one now, weren't they? Goran tried not to stiffen when he saw those eyes change colors, peering at the baby. What was the matter? Could it not find the person it was looking for? He did not approach the little blue, however, well aware of what he'd been taught. The blue would find his, in time.... hopefully.
Gasps from the crowd and other Candidates made him jerk, his eyes snapping back to the green... and the unlucky Candidate who had raced up to meet her. Blood stained the white robes and the sand, and Goran instinctively stepped in front of the two girls at his side, as though to place himself between them and the danger.
The green seemed more interested in the brightly colored egg that had been wobbling.... and after some bizarre shenanigans, another green burst forth onto the sands.
Shards and shells, this was already more excitement than he'd expected....

Bekah was torn, her instincts were to go to the now injured girl, but there were others there instead, more qualified Healers to attend if they were needed. She took a deep breath to steady herself and hung back again for the moment.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Rokar watched, hopeful as a blue hatched, would this be it? Was this one His? Oh! The first green rolled it's sibling egg, causing it to hatch, another green, he didn't quite care what colour he Impressed, IF he Impressed, he just wanted .... Needed... It.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Mallan wasn't quite fully aware of the judgement egg hatching but in the back of his mind somewhere, he knew it had. He was more concerned with getting to Amila who was obviously hurt, but just how badly, he wasn't sure. "Are you OK?" He asked her, "do you need the healers?" He offered his arm, he wouldn't take her away from her chance to Impress, but if she passed out from blood loss, then her dragon wouldn't be able to find her.

Ichta's heart gave an involuntary flutter when Goran moved, putting himself in a position not quite blocking, but definitely defensively before her and Nadry. Oh. Oh. On one hand, it made her feel increasingly nervous on his behalf, but on the other, she was..she wasn't actually sure how she felt. It was a jumble. She looked briefly to Nadry with a nod, then looked towards Goran's back with a smile.
The Judgement Blue looked about how Ichta felt right then, and she sent a small thought in it's direction - not that it would hear it most likely, but it was the thought (hurr) that counted. It's okay. Take your time. We're not going anywhere. You'll find them. At least with this many on the sands, Ichta had to hope there was someone for each of these eggs.
Three dragons now roamed the sands and Ichta found herself following their paths with her eyes to see who they looked for - which person would be theirs. She recognized some faces from the Touching, after all, and some of them had seemed like fine riders in the making.

Amila shrieked when the dragonet gored her shoulder -- it missed an artery and the joint but by luck, biut there was blood - a bright amount, and Amila froze where she stood, hand shooting to cover it protectively. It was deep -- it hurt, and she knew she was crying -- but she didn't blame the Fool. That was just a hatchling's way. Watchwher young made mistakes. Firelizards made mistakes. So did the herds -- most babies really.
But it hurt like mad. And she was angry at herself, sjutting her eyes to tune the area out, bar listening for another approaching, running hatchling. Currently? Currently she was trying not to be angry at her own stupidity stupid child. This was her fault and they'd surely never let her on the Sands to Impress again now for being such a stupid girl and not staying back. She just...
She just....
Decided to not think about it. Shje didn't want to ruin anyone's day, and Amila simply, finally shrank back a bit to nurse herself, and be there as expected, but otherwise try not to ruin things further (which she hadn't, but, well, one needed self confidence to think so).

There were now three young dragons on the sands, no longer eggs. But there was also blood. Jacomus covered his mouth, wincing. The poor child... But she would surely recover from it. He'd met many a knife, and while it was surely no match for a dragon's claws, he'd survived, so he was certain this young candidate would survive. His gaze went to tracking the young dragons, waiting to see who picked who.
And then somebody moved, blocking his view. For as tall as he was, it still made him curse under his breath. With determined movements, Jacomus vied for a better position. It brought him closer to the stands and closer to being spied by those he didn't want to spy him, but he still wanted a better look.

Observers: Ristia, Z'yden, Taysen
Ristia smiled at her daughters, but her attention was instantly drawn back to the sands as the first eggs began to hatch. "Oh, a green! No, two greens and a blue!" She couldn't help it, she was biased in favor of more blue beauties like her Naeth. While she watched, she kept track of the colors that hatched and compared it to the bet she had made before hatching began. So far she was two for three. Not bad, she grinned to herself.
When the first green mauled one of the candidates, Ristia's heart rose to her throat. "The poor girl," she murmured. She knew the healers would get to her as fast as they could, and she hoped there weren't many candidates who got hurt. "I'm sure Riagan will be fine," she said with a small smile to both of her girls, half to reassure herself and half to reassure them. She wasn't maternal, but she did care for the children she'd carried.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Z'yden smiled as the first dragons hatched. His thoughts wandered back to the hatching where he had Impressed Sameth. He'd been terrified. Older candidates and riders had told so many stories of maulings and even deaths that Z'yden had been sure he'd end the day bloody, but somehow he'd managed to remain in one piece. And then...Sameth. He could feel his blue's happiness at the memory as well.
Blood on the sands drew his attention back to the present and he winced in sympathy for the candidate. He hoped she would be alright, and kept half an eye on her while he watched the rest of the hatching.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Even a committed pickpocket like Taysen couldn't fully ignore the hatching, and he grinned as a couple of greens and a blue made their way into the world. They were cute little buggers. Well, less so when they bloodied one of the candidates but still. They were babies who didn't know their own strength. They would learn.

Mallan moved to hold Amila up. "You need to get over to the Healer tables, so your dragon can still find you" he said to her, tearing off part of his robe to press to the girls shoulder, it was up to her whether she back off or not, but he was impressed that she hadn't scurried off already. Sure she had screamed, he probably would have too, and her thought seemed to have been for the hatchling, of course, he did the same when at the touching, for the egg.
"You don't have to leave but you do need that wound looking at" he said, concerned. "I can help you if you like, if you pass out, how is your dragon going to be able to find you?" He said kindly, the girl seemed shocked, he wouldn't abandon her, even though now there were two hatchlings heading to the boys, where HE should be.

Though he hadn't dared to step forward when the green was tangling itself up in a knot (mostly worried that he would somehow make it all worse), once all dragonets were clear, Timor moved towards the injured candidate, who looked to have a nasty gash across her shoulder. While she looked to be okay (that is, the injury wasn't life threatening or anything that would force her off the sands) he was worried that she had her eyes closed and couldn't see what was happening if another hatching went barelling by. At the very least, he could stand with her and warn her if another hatchling came.
"Are you alright?" he asked her. Move than hurt, she looked upset as well. "Hey.. It was brave of you, what you did for that green." he said, comforting. Whether or not it was the right thing to do in that situation might be up for debate, but all else aside, it was definitely brave.
