It was an ugly hit and Martirae as not so foolish - they'd learned too completely - to think that they'd never be in such danger of a hit. Being a goldrider didn't mean that all fate would keep them safe, after all.

These would really hurt during Threadfall. I'm sorry, Martirae was doing her best to not wind herself into further frustration, especially as Anakumath gently offered her own apologies for allowing distraction to throw them both off of the groove of things.

This was going to be quite a look, but Martirae would rather that Anakumath look a little silly now than what it could have been in any other situation.

This kind of hit could be cleared by jumping Between. It wouldn't leave a mark if it had been Thread, but some of these others.....Martirae had to level herself and consider not letting herself get frustrated by failure. Compensate elsewhere. Frustration would make things worse.

Another hit they could potentially clear away before it did serious damage - but that didn't mean they wanted to become complacent with that option. There was danger to having to Between too often as well.

A hit like this one could have been a lot worse if Martirae wasn't sharp. But she'd make no excuses for having a hard time with this drill. It was better to learn this way what they needed to do to improve than any other.

She knew the paint would come out of Anakumath's hide, but the idea their straps may be forever stained was uncomfortable. Maybe Martirae needed to do a little better. Maybe a reminder would be good.

Zamistia heard they would be doing more Threadfall practice, though it seemed not with actual thread. No, today they would be working on dodging paint coated pieces of yarn. Well, hopefully their performance during actual Threadfall would help..she hoped.

Is this really necessary?Nanuth snorted softly at the idea of this.

If Assistant Weyrlingmaster Z'von says it is, then it is. Come on, Nanuth, a little more practice with dodging isn't a bad thing. And at least it is safer than actual thread,the red head reminded her brown in a gentle voice. She did a double check of her straps, feeling her dragon grumble under her. However, when they were given the signal, she mentally nudged him up. She reminded him how much he liked a good flight, which worked well.

As they got in the air, Zamistia caught sight of a green rope coming towards them from the right. She began to think of what coordinates they would need to jump out of to avoid being hit with it or blown back to them. Unfortunately, she was so lost in making all necessary precautions in her mind, she didn't see the mess coming from the left. However, a growl from below her and some up splash of the paint as it hit Nanuth soon brought it to her attention.

That is going to be a pain to get out!Nanuth hissed.

Sorry, Nanuth, I should have paid better attention,the girl mentally winced. If that had been actual thread...

Don't worry, we will do better. Guess we did need practice, huh?the brown quipped, allowing his rider to feel his love.

Zamistia was trying to stay more alert, but she felt like she had forgotten something. Though..what, she didn't even know, as that momentary worry earned her a little of that wonderful dyed rope on her arm.

Well, glad it isn't just me that will be colorful,Nanuth snorted in amusement.

Well, least it is only a little. And it isn't actual Thread, means we have work to do,Misty replied, pulling off the yarn gently. She took this practice seriously, though she couldn't help to laugh a little herself. After that first hit to left arm and wingsail, she needed a moment to find some amusement.

Zamistia could tell Nanuth was starting to feel itchy in the spots where he had been hit by the dye. It was starting to annoy him and she couldn't blame him, it was making her itchy too. She was trying to think of something to say, to give him some comfort, even if this drill felt like it would be a long one.

It will be over before we know it. And look, we aren't the only ones, you all will get a good cleaning,she reminded.

Well, let's hope we don't get much more. I think they are making this hard on purpose,Nanuth grumped. And just as he did, the wind blew more of the dye colored yarn into him and left a red stain on his main wingsail.

Zamistia sighed softly as she looked over the side of her dragon, where she could see different colors of dye on his handsome brown hide. She knew Nanuth had figured this exercise would be a breeze, but it seems he was wrong. It seemed they still had some work to do, considering it felt they were doing a bit worse with this lesson than they did in real Threadfall. Just as she was thinking that, she felt Nanuth try to move out of the way of a clump of the dyed yarn. Unfortunately, his big size kept him from getting away from it and it wrapped around his neck and headknobs, just clinging to him.

I am really starting to hate these paint drenched yarn pieces,Nanuth growled.

Easy, Nanuth. I will pull it off, just remember, it won't leave any scars,she reminded. She pulled off the yarn tenderly, thinking again how this could have hurt her beloved brown. She felt the sigh under her, he knew she was right.

Zamistia hoped that they might get a moment to catch their breath. Unfortunately, before she could even think on that more, the wind picked up again. She didn't have a chance to warn Nanuth, before she felt a piece of the 'thread' hit her right leg. Also, much to her chagrin, it also left its mark on her new straps.

Well, good thing you always make an extra,Nanuth pointed out, catching her thoughts on where that hit. Okay, he needed to take this a little more seriously, knowing if that had been thread, his rider would have been hurt.

Zamistia kept her eyes open for anymore of the falling 'thread' they were working with. As she sees some incoming on right, she points it out to Nanuth. She feels her brown dragon bank to the left, before hearing the familiar bellow of anger. She cautiously turned around to see a new stain against the base of his tail and right calf.

I am sorry, Nanuth. I thought I had warned you in enough time,the red head apologized to her beloved brown.

I don't blame you, My Light, I know you are trying. This wind is not helping,Nanuth replied with a bit of a growl. Though the growl was not towards her, he knew she would know that. His skin was itching more and he didn't like it.

Zamistia felt that prickling at the back of her mind again of something being forgotten. What though, she wasn't sure, she had double checked before she left that everything was okay, including her two flits. That moment of distraction was enough, however, for a single piece of yarn to escape her notice and hit the other leg.

I think a bath will definitely be needed after this lesson,Misty thought to her brown.

Hopefully it will come all off,Nanuth grumbled the anger he was still feeling from the itching. Add to that, his rider getting pelted by these dyed strands as well, he was not a happy dragon.
