Name: H'sau (Henesau)
Age: 27 28
Nameday: 3549.06.28
Sex: Male
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
Weyr: High Reaches Weyr
Rider Rank: Wingrider
Previous Rank/Craft: N/A

Physical Description: H'sau doesn't hulk in any sense other than the occasional weight of his expression. At 5'8" or thereabout, he doesn't tower or stick out. He is very fit, a little heavier than a runner's build and more like a fighter. His hair is dark brown and curly, just long enough to tangle a hrush. His eyes are narrow and likewise dark, brown. He is clean-shaven enough that it's possible he just can't grow a beared. When he smiles, he had dimples.

Personality: H'sau is a determined, dedicated young man. To his dragon. To his duties. As a white rider at High Reaches Weyr, he is all too aware of his standing -- or lack of it -- in this place. Wanting to give no reason for anyone to further dismiss him or his value, he works doubly hard to make certain he makes no mistakes. This doesn't mean he's a perfectionist. He simply refuses to let himself make excuses or fail to take advantage of every opportunity to prove himself.

He does have a temper and can handle himself in a fight if need be, but he keeps his temper tightly controlled and he hasn't *started* a fight since his Weyrling days. He's not the sort to share his opinion in public, at least not often, and some have said they heard his teeth creaking from clenching them when he's been forced to listen to some traditionalist or other hold forth on white dragons, but that might just have been their imaginations. Maybe.

He is highly competitive, and oddly enough, a good competition seems to brighten his mood. Whether it's him alone, Mereketh displaying his skills, or the two of them together, the chance to compete fairly lifts a weight off H'sau's shoulders, win or lose.

And fairness is extremely important to him. If he's going to speak at length in mixed company, it's probably got sometthing to do with fairness and equality. While he's learned to hold his tongue most of the time, that is one topic area where he apparently has no filter or control.

And given the opportunity to do so without being singled out, he will always side with those who buck oppressive tradition. There are a handful of like-minded riders in the Weyr that he calls friend. In their company, he lets his guard down and has even been known to tell a joke or two.

Positive Trait List dedicated, determined, dutiful
Negative Trait List stubborn, bitter, reactionary

b]History: Henesau grew up in Ruatha Hold, the son of a weaver, the result of a brief affair with a brownrider he met once or twice, but never knew as a father figure, just a friend. His mother chose not to pursue a relationship and instead raised her son alone, happily and with no anger or regrets.

As a result, he was raised to believe that anything was possible, and that for the most part, if you put your mind to it, any one could become anything.

So he dabbled and he explored, listening to and watching the crafters and artists who lived around him, but he never fully committed to any craft in specific. Instead, when he was Searched while on a visit to a Gather with his mother, he told her that this, instead, was what he'd been waiting for, and he eagerly agreed to go back to High Reaches and stand.

Naive of him? Perhaps. Who knew what would happen? He was full of optimism and hope and dreams of exciting adventures that he'd one day go home and share with his mother.

When Mereketh failed to break his shell, Henesau answered his cries for help without thinking. He stepped forward, almost ready to beat the shell open himself, before the clutch sire intervened, rumbling a warning to hold the boy at bay as he tore open the shell with more care than a claw that size should have managed. The dragonet inside, weak though he was, was embarrassed and angry and lashed out at the nearest boy, slashing across Henesau's shoulder, a wound the rider wears almost proudly as a scar.

Because in his mind, the price of pain was worth the reward of a dragon's voice in his mind and a frantic apology from the little white that introduced them and began their lives together.

H'sau had been as prepared as any Candidate for a new lifemate, but was completely caught off guard by the disdain and outright disgust he experienced in the days and months and Turns that followed. To be dismissed, discouraged and discounted at many times quickly turned his optimism into anger and filed his determination to be deemed worthy into a very fine point.

Particularly now that Thread has returned and all dragons are needed, regardless of the color of their hide.

Mereketh

Name: Mereketh
Age: 9
Color: White (Male)
Size: 30'
Physical Description: There is nothing particularly outstanding about this dragon. He is perhaps a little sharper in some angles than some of his kin might be, but he is of average length, average build. His hide is exceptioally supple, should you be able to get close enough to touch.

Personality: Mereketh is the Little Dragon That Could.

He may be small in size, but he is large in hearts and in will to prove himself up to any challenge. In that, he is absolutely a match to his rider plus a little more. This is not a dragon who enjoys lounging or wasting time when he could be doing work. As a matter of fact, it is a struggle to get him to actually rest on rest days, and unless commanded to end a task, he will continue whatever he has been asked to do, sometimes long beyond the time he should have stopped. Left to his own choices, Mereketh would work himself to the point of exhaustion or sickness.

He is highly suspicious of new acquaintances and slow to trust even those he has known for a while. He is most comfortable in the company of other white dragons, but there are a few, mainly those who are most friendly with his rider, that he has learned to tolerate.

Pr'gal

Name: Pr'gal (Peregal)
Age: 19 20
Sex: Male
Nameday: 3557.02.17
Sexual Orientation: Not really concerned, but straight by inclination.
Weyr: Western Weyr
Rider Rank: Wingrider
Previous Rank/Craft: Weyrbrat

Physical Description: Pr'gal has always thought his arms were too long for his body and his hands oversized. Yes, that makes it easy to reach for and pick up things, but it also got him teased a bit growing up. Fortunately, he's starting to even out. A growth spurt finally sen him a couple inches over six feet. His dark ginger hair is thick with a not so subtle wave that he wears pulled back into a tail almost all the time. Grey blue eyes are usually alight with laughter, if you can find them behind his unfairly lush eyelashes. He's pretty heavily freckled, visible even through, or maybe because of, his tan. Both of his ears have been pierced, once, with suble golden hoops.

Personality: Pr'gal likes people, okay? He's very social and is not at all shy about introducing himself to strangers or finding the wallflower in the room and sitting down for a chat. That's not to say that he needs to be entertained at all times. Far from it. Pr'gal is more than capable of filling the candlemarks of a day with various acitivities, whether those are assignments, chores, or simply self-guided exploration.

In other words, he *likes* people and company, but he doesn't require them. He certainly wouldn't be happy or thriving if he was forced to live alone, but he can manage hours at a time without interaction. He's very independent.
This doesn't mean he's a rule breaker. He will not go out of his way to cause a problem, though he doesn't mind indulging in the occaional bit of mischief.

If he is upset, which doesn't happen all that often but isn't impossible, either, he is more likely to retreat, regroup and then come back to talk things out tnan he is to get confrontational and start swinging. He has his limits and lines that he prefers not to cross, but he's got a very long, slow-burning fuse.

He can be very physically affectionate, if given permission, but he has no desire to force anyone into anything uncomfortable. He is a good secret keeper, but not a gossip. He can be relied on to have a friend's back or to shield them if need be, but he certainly won't be the first one into the fray.

Positive Trait List friendly, companionable, independent
Negative Trait List reclusive, independent, pushover

History: Peregal was born in Western to a pair of very busy riders who, though they chose not to have an army of littles trying to topple off their ledge, still participated in their childrens' lives and made sure they knew they were loved. As a result, he is a friendly, outgoing, loves-a-crowd sort of guy.

While he hoped that one day he might ride a dragon like his parents, he didn't pin all of his hopes on that outcome. He didn't, though, decide on anyone craft to aspire to that filled his time, either. Instead, between Candidate chores, Peregal was only too happy to continue to help out around the WEyr. He's quite a good handyman, really, and has neither a fear of heights nor of bugs, so he's equally good on a ladder and in the darkest corner of a neglected storeroom.

At the Hatching where he found Golabeth -- or rather, Golabeth found him -- he was so caught up in watching pairings happen around him, so happy for his classmates, that he nearly missed his own Impression. Not that he could *really* have overlooked Golabeth's insistant new presence in his mind, but it did take the dragon getting rather loud and rather close to impress upon the young man -- ha ha! -- that this was Serious Business and they were now partners for life.

An arrangement happily and apologetically accepted. An arrangement neither would trade for anythhing.

Other: Mostly raised in the creche, he has siblings he knows about/who know him, and they do consider one another family. Want to play one? HMU.

Golabeth

Name: Golabeth
Thme/Inspiration: Big Cats - European Wild Cat
Color: Bronze

Personality If Pr'gal is easy to push around, then Golabeth is probably the one doing the pushing. Not a bossy dragon, at least with anyone else, Golabeth has very particular wants and needs, thoughts and opinions, and it is Peregal's job -- no, obligation -- to see that they're met.

Golabeth is not cruel. In fact the dragon can sometimes come across as a little smothering. Making sure that friends, yes, but clutchmates in particular, are comfortable and happy and well-cared for are just the sort of things that make Golabeth content.

That said, attitudes of all sorts frustrate the dragon. Snippy dragons and lazy dragons alike will no doubt find themselves on the sharp end of this dragon's tongue.

Golabeth is a hoarder or sorts, just for the record, always on the look out for the most outstanding and unusual object. Got a new fancy pair of boots. Look out, Golabeth might claim them.

Size: Medium - 80'
Physical Attributes: Golabeth is a little on the "fluffy" side, in that there's a little extra weight on them. Not a fat dragon, certainly, just comfortably padded.

Additional Notes: When it comes to flights, Golabeth will enthusiastically engage. After all, what could be better than attention and a happy ending? If successful in catching, the dragon should be expected to be treated like Pern's most precious while in his combany. If he successfully finds a long-term mate, he will be supportive, doting, and perhaps irritatingly possessive.

Why Me: Why did this dragon pick out the above Candidate? What do they give one another? Golabeth chose Peregal because he needed some guidance and direction. Being willing to do "whatever" is all well and good and certainly handy and helpful at times, but sometimes you need a goal and a purpse in life. Golabeth has lots of ideas about that. For his part, Pr'gal helps to satisfy Golabeth's more controlling nature, to offer some peace and comfort and reassurance that, even without a specific outcome in mind, the world will keep on turning and life is fine.
- - - -
How did your character behave during Weyrling Training? Pergal (or P'gal, I guess) was an enththusiastic learner and generally upbeat. He was more than willing to help other classmates struggling with any of the lessons, if asked, and definitely lent an ear to frustrations or fears, etc.

What did your character think of so many twin dragons? What did your character think of having not one, but two, gold sister? He was shocked first and then delighted! He's been curiously watching those who Impressed twins, particularly the gold riders, to see whether they're going to go down the same sort of path or deliberately be as different and independent as they can.

How did your characters do during flying lessons and Between training? Were they naturals or did they struggle? Flying lessons were tricky at first, as Golabeth had a little trouble not being the most aerodynamic dragon on Pern. Between training, however, came so naturally that they were cautioned and then lectured about not getting cocky about it, lest they become object lessons for the next class.

How has your character been handling being graduated and a real dragon rider?

P'gal and Golabeth are pretty much loving life and really don't have a thing to complain about. Well. Not right now. Golabeth might find something. Huff!

Name: Yeliya (YEE-lee-yah)
Age: 19
Nameday: 3557.04.28
Sex: Female
Sexual Orientation: Not entirely sure yet.
Craft: Trader
Rank: N/A
Location: High Reaches

Physical Description: If Yeliya were soaking wet she would still look like a stiff wind might blow her away. She resents the "delicate' descriptor, but it's been used on her often. She is definitely fine-boned and fine featured and barely five feet tall. She's a pretty little thing, though that particular phrase doesn't thrill her, either. She has some curves, but she's definitely more fighting fit than round and soft. Black hair is straight, fine, and long enough to touch the small of her back in a braid. Her eyes are dark and narrow and hard to read. Her skin is Igen brown. She's not a smiley sort, ordinarily, but when she does, it's impossible to miss.

Personality: Don't mistake "small" for "weak" or "timid". Yeliya is neither of those. She is independent through and through and only very rarely *leans* on someone. She's not a loner. It's hard for her to imagine what being "alone" means, so she doesn't isolate herself by choice. You won't find her brooding in a corner or skirting around a room by hugging the wall. Instead, she'll put herself where she likes, and if that means someone has to go around her, well, *now* there's an advantage to her being small.

She has a wicked, some might say inappropriate sense of humor. She is quick-witted and sometimes sharp tongued. Flattery is for business dealings, in her world. Otherwise, she's happy to be told what you think on all matters, and she'll do the same. She's not out to hurt anyone's feelings, and she isn't cruel. She just has very little patience for those who's carelessness or ignorance might spill over onto her.

She comes from a big extended family. She's used to people, therefore, and has met and made friends with, and fought with all kinds. She isn't the sort who will rush over to greet someone new, but she doesn't shy away from strangers. She *does* judge, and most importantly, she evaluates. Everyone needs to be sized up before she decides whether they can be trusted.
But once you have her trust, you have it for life, and unless you betray that trust somehow, she'll be at your side whenever you're in need.

Positive Trait List independent, adventurous, protective
Negative Trait List defensive, judgmental, sharp-tongued

History: Yeliya was born into a trading family that based itself in Igen Hold and traveled as the Grandglow ("Herbs for oil, spice for wine, all to make your life divine") caravan. She has, therefore, led a fairly nomadic life, and enjoyed it. As the first daughter in her particular branch of the family, she learned fairly quickly how to stand out and exactly how to express the fact that she didn't want to be treated any differently from her brothers who were both bigger and stronger than she. Primarily, she watched her mother and learned how to survive a life of constant movement from her.

When Thread returned, the caravan splintered into smaller segments, for practicality's sake. It no longer made sense to travel in such large groups when better wagon packing practices meant fewer people could be risked on long journeys where there might not be a guarantee of shelter. Yeliya's family escaped the horror of that First Fall thankfully intact, but it definitely shifted their perspectives on life. Seeking new opportunities stopped being such a taboo.

Which is why Yeliya said yes, when she was asked if she would come back to High Reaches to Stand by a Searchrider, with her family's blessing. A new opportunity and a new adventure rolled into one is exactly the sort of thing Yeliya wants to see.

Other: She has two older brothers, Yvenel (23) and Yusif (21), and a
youger brother and sister, Yavesil [18] and Yaleniss(16). Also, she always smells like the spice that gets stirred into klah, even when she's not actively on a caravan. Why? Maybe it's a mystery.

Name: A'som (Afilasom)
Age: 25 26
Nameday: 3551.06.19
Sex: Male
Sexual Orientation: I'm so glad you asked...
Weyr: Western Weyr
Rider Rank: Wingrder
Previous Rank/Craft: Farmer

Physical Description: Pretty. Handsome. Take your pick, either word works. His hair is thick and dark, full of waves that invite fingers to stroke through them. Equally dark eyes are ordinarily filled with mirth. He's in good shape, he smiles quite often and that square jaw of his can take on anything the world sends his way.

Personality: A'som is your friend. No, seriously. He is easy going and laid back and if you need a hand with something, look no further. He's always willing to help out when and where he can. He'd just as easily share a drink with you as help replace the broken wheel on the cart you need to do your job, and at the end of it all, you'd have a friend. He's quick to laugh and travels through life with a sort of casual, comfortable air that can be infectious if you're open to it. He also quick to pick up on the little details and tends to remember the details of things and events long after someone else had put it out of mind.

Which also means that if he's wronged, he will remember and he will remind rhe wrong-doer for as long as there's an argument between them. He wear his emotions openly and is definitely not the sort you'd want as a partner in any sort of game requiring the ability to wear a mask. He's just no good at hiding how he feels!

If you want to get on A'som's good side, pay him good attention. It's honestly that easy. He lives for being in the spotlight and for praise. Tell him he's talented, ply him with food or drink, give him a goodm romp or better yet, all three -- and he's yours. For a while. Low maintenance are not words that will ever suit A'som, nor should they be. He deserves only the best.

Positive Trait List Charming, Helpful, Observant
Negative Trait List Hedonistic, Vain, Dramatic

History: A'som was born fifth in a pack of brothers, and grew up living a good, farming life, full of good food, solid bonds and the occasional wrestling match. Though his father, Luranon, had two wives --Salina and Beela -- there was never any fuss about a trio of parents or which woman was "truly" mother to which son. Blood was blood, rules were rules, and life went on.

Of course, being "little" in a big family meant more of a struggle to get words in, sometimes. A'som's solution to this issue? Demanding attention. As a boy, he learned that he who made the most noise stole the spotlight, and so he earned his family reputation for being dramatic. Rightly so. He learned, though, that drama didn't help to keep the piece, so he also found ways to be a friend and companion to his brothers, very rarely refusing to lend a hand -- or an ear -- when one was needed.

Unless someone even prettier than he was came along. Though the idea of A'som following someone with a pretty smile off a cliff might have been a joke in the family, he nevertheless followed a pretty young woman riding Search back to Benden where he found Durranth. Even in the midst of all those eager young bodies -- one or two of whom had led him right to the brink of expulsion from Candidacy -- no one shone brighter the brown dragon who claimed A'som as his own.

Benden's rules, however, were ultimately not a fit for the pair, and by mutual agreement, A'som and Durranth headed home. Back to the farm and the family, and four other dragons.

Just in time for Thread to make it's terrible return. In the resulting discussion -- debate -- argument about where the dragonriding brothers would go, to lend their aid in fighting the Enemy, A'som sided with L'sil. Western, being newer and still organizing, needed more help and more dragons to come to their aid. The idea of settling somewhere less set in stone, more likely to accept a pair who didn't walk in Weyrbound lockstep also, obviously, held it's appeal.

And so they went.

Other: Anything else you want to add?
PostPosted: Sun Aug 08, 2021 6:03 pm
Name: Durranth
Age: 9
Color: Brown
Size: 80'

Physical Description: Though on the larger size for a bronze, Durranth's bulk doesn't quite match. His wings, however, do seem a little large for his size and lend him a little extra stamina when it comes to fighting Thread and lasting through a Flight.

Personality: Durranth is a workhorse. He is reliable and focused and takes his duties very seriously. There can be games and other distractions when the work of the day is done. Yes, he understands that life requires variety and engagement, butn all things in their time and place. Patient and methodical, he is the perfect balance to his sometimes-excitable and distractable rider.

But in one thing, the pair are 100% alike. Durranth adores physical contact. A stroke against his hide, a pat on the nose, all of that makes his hearts sing. Though he is more than capable of sleeping alone, he would prefer company, and when his rider is not likewise occupied, it is not uncommon for A'som to forgo the comfort of his bed for the closeness that comes with curling up against his dragon's chest.

Dragon Art or Proof of Obtainment: Durranth-
