While Amaranth took her time to release a Pokemon he turned to Clare. "Yes sir." Mateo said, grumbling to himself as he began to open up the book, absently minded flipping the pages but not really looking at anything. After about a minute of silence he spoke again. "So...what are we making?" He forced himself to ask Tristen.

Tristen stared in confusion as he followed Mateo back to the kitchenette, still wondering what this guy's malfunction was. He wasn't going to really try to pry into anything as of yet, not wanting to try to make anything worse than what it already seems to be with this guy. Whatever that was. With his callous dropping of the cookbook onto the counter, Tristen was left to wonder if this was a guy that just didn't care about much of anything. At least up until Mr. Sagoro's booming voice also making Tristen jump, although he wasn't the one being scolded.

When Mateo finally decided to, albeit begrudgingly, finally give Tristen any manner of addressing, he'd speak up succinctly. "Um...anything would be fine. I'd think maybe some kind of dessert, perhaps?" Tristen suggested. "We would have to have it made before the end of the class, right?" It made sense to him, and as far as he knew of, something like that shouldn't take as long as say a major portion of a full course meal, for instance. Or as far as he knew of, anyways. As long as it had the honey involved as all that mattered.

Mateo would grumble to himself a bit as he listened to Tristen, flipping through the pages more slowly and purposefully this time as he looked for something that looked good. Eventually he'd stop at a recipe for 'Pup Buns'. Mateo smirked a little bit as an idea came to him but it quickly faded as he looked at Tristen. "Maybe...this...kinda funny considering uh...us." He said as he pointed to the page.

Pup Buns, as they were called in the recipe, seemed to be some kind of sticky bun or cinnamon roll except you stylized them to look like the silhouette of a dog's head. One could easily use honey in such a recipe but that probably wasn't why Mateo picked this recipe, instead it would seem he had a sense of humor, they were both dogs after all. "Mr. Saguaro likes these kind of jokes...or whatever." He shrugged. "Don't have to do it, I don't care what we do."

Tristen tried to see the recipe for a second, trying to see how long do they take on average to make, trying to keep in mind what Mr. Saguro had in mind. Not to mention, he never actually heard of a 'pup bun' before. As he started to try to look over the recipe, he started to realize that they were more akin to honey buns, those sticky treats packaged enmass at stores. They weren't bad, but maybe...they could be better. Hopefully. "Yea, that...could work." He said to Mateo. "It shouldn't take too long and we're still going to be using the honey. That works great."

Mateo nodded when Tristen agreed to the recipe, taking his finger and pointing out to himself each of the ingredients, making a mental note. "So I guess the first thing we-"

"Pup Buns?" A girl's voice called out from behind Tristen and Mateo, a young girl standing behind them, a small pig held in her arms. "You know you have to have a Fidough to make real Pup Buns, otherwise they are just regular sticky buns. Isn't that right, Lechonk?" The girl said with a smug voice, her pig concurring with an oink.

"Go away, Gloria." Mateo hissed at the girl, without evening looking around to see who it was, he knew that voice anywhere along with that annoying pig.

"What? I'm right. Pup Buns are a traditional Paldean dessert made from the yeast of a Fidough's breath. It's their special yeast that gives them there-" Gloria tried to explain to Mateo why they needed a Fidough to make Pup Buns but Mateo would quickly lose his patience with her.

"Fine!" He shouted, spinning around to face Gloria. "We'll go get a Fidough then!" Mateo declared, Gloria scoffing at him in response.

"Sure, sure you will. Come on, Lechonk, let's get back to work." Gloria said, dismissing the idea of Mateo getting a Fidough before walking off. The teacher would then walk up to Mateo and Tristen to confirm everything was okay after the outburst, Mateo reassuring him all was fine, never mentioning Gloria's antagonizing. Once he was gone he would speak to Tristen.

"We're going to get a Fidough before class is over and make those buns." He informed Tristen. How? Why? They only had a little over an hour to make their recipe anyways.

Tristen would perk up, staring in confusion when one of the other students started to speak her apparent two cents on the matter which only did nothing more than to sour Mateo's mood further. Tristen was trying to not instigate any more issues only for someone to come out of the blue to do that anyways. Tristen really didn't care if they just made regular sticky buns or not, after all, they only had roughly an hour to do it. Worse, he had to state the painful question. "Okay, new to the region. Um...Fidough?" Tristen asked, set to follow Mateo wherever...albeit a little reluctantly.

Mateo would sigh and grumble in response to Tristen's question, quickly getting annoyed with him again. This time however he'd stop, take a breath, and explain. "It's a Fairy type Pokemon, very common in Paldea. It's a canine Pokemon as well. Apparently it was very important back in old times as a source of yeast for baked goods thanks to its dough-like body." The Growlithe hybrid explained, standing up in mid-explanation. "Now let's go!" He said, pulling Tristen's chair out with him still in it.

"Mr. Saguro! Tristen and I need to go to the school store for something! We'll be back soon!" He shouted as he made his way for the door, expecting Tristen to follow.

"Mateo!" The teacher shouted back, causing the young hybrid to stop dead in his tracks as the older man approached him. This didn't look good, he was definitely in trouble for shouting at the teacher. "...take this." He said with a smile, taking a small lamented card that said 'hall pass' on it out of his apron and handed it to Mateo. He would then hand one to Tristen as he passed by. "You boys go straight to the school store and back, okay?" He instructed them.

"Yes sir! Come on, Tristen!" Mateo said as he grabbed Tristen by the arm and directed him to follow him. Once they were outside the classroom and a ways away from it he would speak. "I know where to find a Fidough in the school, we'll have to move quick to get back in time. But don't run, just walk fast. Run and you'll find out why you shouldn't." He informed Tristen, with a rather ominous warning attached.

Common enough Pokemon. Okay, that was good news...but why would these Fidough in the school store? Or...was it really? When Mateo called out to the teacher that they were making a quick run to the store, once again Tristen jumped at the booming voice that demanded attention and respect. Tristen would take the hall pass then looked back towards Mateo. Apparently the free reign to go to and from destinations had to be handed out...one more thing that he had realized about a school functions. He would then follow Mateo out, paying heed to his say. Walk fast, but not to run. Brisk pace, and all. Got it. "Alright. Good to know." Tristen said, hoping Mateo wasn't actually going to put the kid in over his head.

"I don't know if I'd completely call it communicating in the conversation sense, but..."

At this point, Amaranth wondered how far- let alone how fast- news of her being Channeler spread across the academy. It wasn't like she was hiding it or anything, especially not yesterday... but she remembered to keep the artifacts stowed away this time! Except for the tiki, that stayed around her neck. That, or Mr. Salvatore had a really good feel for those around him. "A-anyways," she spoke up, not wanting to dawdle more than she already had. "I channel with Flying types, and sure... Gale, say hi."

Holding a ball out to her side as she pressed the button, she'd step to the side to give her Pidgeot more room as she came out. She'd chirp and stretch her wings slightly as she came out, though despite the slight intimidation factor, she'd stay calm and look towards Amaranth before looking at the class before them.

Neither of them knew what a 'beleidigen' was, but they were pretty sure that whatever language that was, it wasn't being emulated anytime soon.

The pair would briskly walk down the hallway, passing several doors along the way, one of which was blue and stood out among the rest, heavily resembling a PokeMart. They weren't going to the school store, were they? Matteo would guide Tristen to the end of the hallway where an elevator door stood and a door to the stairs. Matteo wouldn't debate which one to take and immediately went for the stairs where he would quickly descend. As they got to the floor they intended, but still in the stairwell and standing in front of the door to the rest of the floor, Matteo would turn around and speak to Tristen.

"How good are you at lying?" He asked the boy, then peaking out of the door's window to get a good view of the floor beyond the door. "Good, no one is around." He muttered to himself before turning his attention back to Tristen. "Ms. Picante, the school's baker, has several Fidough but doesn't let anyone near them for some reason. Maybe if one of us pulls her away with an emergency the other can sneak in and borrow one of her pups."

Maybe if one of us pulls her away with an emergency the other can sneak in and borrow one of her pups."

Tristen's fears were starting to get realized when it started to look that they were not going to any school store what so ever. More confirmed when they went past what looked to be a well stocked store in question. Apparently that Gloria girl really got under his skin so he's trying to pull something, and he started to wonder what it was. Were they going to actually leave the campus? Did they even have TIME to do that? They didn't have all day to hunt one down. What was Matteo's angle?

Those questions would soon start to be answered when Matteo would start questioning about if he knew how to lie. Truthfully, with his time in Snagem, he could perhaps lie quite well, taken to the massive half-truth, exact words approach to it. Lies that makes it hard to confirm immediately, or those so probable that it suspends disbelief. Problem is, that was only something he knew how to do when he had stuff to work with. He's in a facility that he knows nothing about, in a region that he knows nothing about, with people also he knows nothing about. Without anything to work with, his lies are practically nothing of use to Matteo. And that's ignoring the part of the reason why Matteo was possibly wanting him to lie to begin with.

Matteo was counting on Tristen to make a distraction. This baker did not want anything to happen to her Fidough, which got him to wonder just what did getting this Fidough yeast involve. He was trying not to give any more of a reason to give Matteo upset, despite the fact that in retrospect, in the few seconds that he listened to the conversation between he and Gloria, she did in fact seem a bit on the elitist side. Was it worth it though? Tristen started doubt that this was going to work the way he think it does because as far as what he could tell, it wouldn't matter who would sneak in to snatch one of these pups, even Pokemon would realize that something is amiss if someone other than the baker is handling them. Tristen started to think on an idea, his mind quickly working at warp speed and he could only come up with one option...it may just get them that yeast, but he was almost sure that Matteo was not going to be too thrilled. All the same if this works out, at least Matteo will be able to complete the assignment and put one on Gloria all the same. That Snagem Tristen four-dimensional thinking trying to come into play. "I can try talking to the baker..." Tristen said to Matteo.

"Talking to her!?" Matteo responded, the volume of his voice elevated but not quit shouting, the young hybrid quickly catching himself and lowering his voice back down. He'd peek back through the door's window to make sure no one heard him and as far as he could tell they hadn't. "You don't understand Ms. Picante! She is one of the school's mea-" Before Matteo could finish that sentence an idea came to his mind, a smirk briefly flashing on his face as he considered the idea. "On second thought..." He said, pulling the door open towards the inside, stepping to the side to let Tristen pass through. "Go ahead, go talk to Ms. Picante. I'll wait here, she doesn't like me."

With the door open Tristen could now see the hallway beyond it, nary a soul walking the halls as everyone was currently in class, not even a Pokemon to be seen. With the door open now he smell even greater the scent of food cooking, his canine nose no doubt picking it up the moment they entered the stairwell but now with no obstructions he could pick up the scent of some of the things being cooked, were those tomatoes he smelled cooking?

Two doors down from the stairwell was the entrance to the cafeteria, the doors kept open during school hours when the cafeteria was open for business. The inside of the cafeteria was livelier than the hallway, at least the kitchen was, as Ms. Picante and her Pokemon cooked away. Three dogs, Fidough, were sleeping on the floor at her feet and her fourth Pokemon, a pair of Tandemaus, helped prepare dishes. There were other lunch ladies/men but for now there was just Ms. Picante and her companions, busily cooking away.

Clare balked slightly, looking for a moment like a Deerling caught in headlights. Mr. Salvatore had just posed a question they had no answer for at the moment. Should they answer honestly and him they didn’t actually know or should they make something up? They hoped Amaranth could offer some help here but she appeared to be more concerned with the questions presented to her for the moment. And so it came about that Clare openly admitted the truth. “I…uh… I don’t actually know. I’m not originally from here and I have no memory past a few months ago when Team Snagem found me and took me in.” They explained calmly. “All I know is I’m a hybrid of a Rock-type, a Poison-type or both but I don’t know of any Pokémon that could fit either of those types that has features anything like mine.”

Like clockwork, Tristen would think, and while he wouldn’t really show it on his face, Tristen started to feel a hair irritated. Was a set of special sticky buns worth the hassle he was about to put the two of them through? Either way, this was going to go how he thought it was. And he was already two steps ahead. As Matteo stepped to the side to allow Tristen in, Tristen would cross the threshold and took a look around, the aroma of perhaps lunch lofting in the air. It was pretty enticing either way. This was the aroma of great care being put into their cooking. He would follow the scent all the way to the cafeteria, where the smell was at its most prominent. His mouth, salivating at the thought of whatever was cooking in the kitchen.

When he made his way to the kitchen, he looked about, finding who he assumed was Ms. Picante at the stove, who was cooking away, toiling away at the various meals. He noticed what he assumed to be Fidough, the canine like Pokémon there asleep on the floor. The other Pokémon he didn’t know anything of, but all the same he wasn’t going to draw any ire of any kind out of them. He would give a knock at the doorframe. “Um, excuse me. Are…you Ms. Picante?” Tristen would speak up to the cook at the stove.

Ms. Picante would slowly look up from her work as she heard of the voice of a young person address her by name. Initially her expression seemed stern with no time for silliness but quickly it turned into a smile, the earlier expression likely just one of intense concentration. The smile was born when she locked eyes with the young hybrid, the human woman seemingly happy to see this new lad which was perhaps confusing to Tristen considering how Matteo made this woman out to be. "Well hello, young chico! What can ole Ms. Picante do for you?" She asked, smiling warmly.

This was the mean woman Matteo fretted over crossing paths with? Such so that he rather commit a heist than drawing attention from her? Something smelled like hot day old Krabby cakes around here. Her Fidough were awoken by the talking and immediately surrounded Tristen, sniffing him excessively, their noses poking him all over. The Tandemaus however paid him no mind, too busy with their task.
