Lace

Special Notes: History of the Fabric: The history of lace is unknown, but the earliest examples started in Ancient Egypt as burial garb. Other early lace examples started in Medieval period, but It wasn't until the 1300s in a law restricting lace import. True lace as we see it today started in the 15th century with two places being noted for it's lace in Flemish and Italian painted works.

Needle: Leather needles Special Notes: History of the Fabric: Leather is one of the oldest known fabrics in the world, while pleather is a much more recent invention. Leather has estimated origins of 400,000 BCE, but it wasn't until 400 BCE that tanning leather happened in ancient Egypt.
Pleather was invented in the 19th century in Germany, but it was refined into what we know it as in the 1920s.

History of the Fabric: Linen is the oldest record fabric (Fur is assumed) and there is evidence of Linen like fabric all the way back to the ice age. The origin dates back to Bablayon and was orginally made of Flax. Because of it's history is traced so far back, it's also historically the most commonly used throughout history. The term Fine Linen comes from the use of the best linen when guest come to visit.

It was believed that the use of the fabric was more localized to France and Switerland and those of the rich until the 1600s when English and Dutch trading made the fabric more wide spread. The popularity caused the fabric to become popular as a first communion dress material and it reached it's peak in the 1950s and 1960s.

It's clear that it comes from somewhere along the silk road, but some believe that it's based in the Turkestan region. This is based on the origin of the word Organza and that there is a town named "Urgang" in the region. The word is also not of Chinese origin. In addition during Medieval Europe, some regions called it urgang.

Poplin
Composition: Uses: Pre-Wash: Needle: Special Notes: History of the Fabric: The term Poplin comes from the French Papelino. A fabric that was made in 15th century Avignon, France for the Pope's residence. Productoin of similar products would later happen in Flanders, Belgium. In the 1920s the UK introduce the fabric to the US under the name of "Broadcloth" and has since been a label to discribe any poly/cotton blend. Poplin became popular during WWII as uniforms for the British and US armys.
