"Metal Gear... it can't be!"
"You knew? Metal Gear is one of the most secret black projects. How did you know that?"
"Duh, I'm Solid Snake?"

A light breeze swam along the many piers of Castelia City. The blue hues of the ocean danced around to an unheard beat as a young man tapped his finger on the arm of the bench. The ocean glittered beautifully under the sun and the sparkles popped on the horizon like rain drops.
In front of his eyes lay the beauty of the world. Alomamolas leapt out of the sea and their pink scales tingled against the whoosh of the blue sky. With his headphones planted firmly in his ears he was lost in the world of his thought. He had a notepad rested on his lap as his foot tapped on the stones of the pier. He held a pen in his other hand and was also tapping that.
A small Tepig sat next to him and nuzzled its snout against his jeans. Its eyes were closed as it napped under the beating sun. The ball on the end of its tail bobbed around in the breeze.
The young man removed his headphones and wrote madly in the notepad. At the top of the page stood the heading of "How well are the legends of the world depicted in modern literature?" Words flowed willingly out of the pen and by the time the young man was done he had five pages of solid writing. He placed the notepad and pen in his messenger bag before lifting himself fluidly off the bench. He bent down to pet his Tepig and the little pig Pokémon grunted in an adorable and affectionate way.
The young man spoke for the first time in an hour or so, "C'mon Kai. Time to wake up. We're done here for today." He picked up Kai and held the Tepig in his arms. He walked back into the city and the smells of food and people stroked his nostrils. Castelia City wasn't the best place to live in Unova. It was filled to the brim with people and it was stifling in comparison to his lovely hometown of Nacrene City. He'd moved to Castelia for college and in his bag lay his final essay.
The young man's name was Luka McFly. He had graduated from school at the top of his class in Literature and had taken that to college years earlier than any of his peers. Luka was intelligent and he was expected to get full marks in this final essay and graduate college with the highest accolade.
Despite Luka's intellect, he had never been in a Pokémon battle. His parents had both won league tournaments in different regions and had tried really hard to instill the battle spirit in him but it hadn't worked. Luka was too focused on his work.
Now that his final graduation was coming closer, Luka wanted to go on a journey to find out what he wanted to do with his life. Very soon he would have to start battling and although he had never had any experience, he did have the knowledge from all of the books he had read so he simply had to see how easy it was to transfer knowledge into skill.
Only time would tell.

Luka's college stood in front of him. It was a pretty old building and stood out in the modern setting of Castelia but it had a real homely aura to it, making it the perfect place for Luka to study at. This was to be the last time he went into the building. His paper would be marked within a day and then he would be finished for good. His actual graduation wasn't going to be for a good few months so, Luka had decided that he would consult the Gym Leader of Castelia City, Burgh, on battling technique. If you were going to learn how to battle, you might as well learn from the trainers at the top of the league.
He remembered the hard-boiled but motherly nature of Lenora and had learnt a lot from her in his many trips to the museum's library. He hoped that Burgh would be just as helpful although he had heard that Burgh was quite an eccentric, moreso than Luka himself, and that sort of worried Luka. He wanted a regimented structure, not some artsy fartsy airy fairy method of teaching. Still, he had also decided that if Burgh was useless to him then he would return home to Nacrene for a bit and learn from Lenora who he hoped would be willing to help him out.
Either way, he needed to go out and capture some Pokémon first. He only owned two Pokémon, Kai the Tepig who was petrified of fighting due to spending seven years as little more than a pampered pet, and Squirt the Tirtouga who was a mischevious little thing at the best of times.
One typing that Luka knew he desperately needed was a grass type. He wanted to have as many type bases covered as possible and a grass type would makes things easier for him. A bug type might be helpful too, as would a flying type. But, for the time being, a grass type was the one that was the most important.

With his final essay handed in, Luka had the rest of the day to fill. In his bag lay ten brand new Pokéballs. He had about 5 left of the day before he needed to go and get dinner so he rented a bike from one of the shops and rode across the Sky Arrow Bridge. The breeze glistened past him as he pedalled. He was picking up speed all the time and his target was obvious.
He was going to the Pinwheel Forest to catch a Pokémon. He would see how easy it to transfer knowledge into skill and he would participate in his first wild Pokémon battle.
As the bridge wound its way across the sky it was possible to see the many bird Pokémon flying past it, tweeting and kawing to the melody that dance its way around Luka's head. The Pinwheel Forest was in view now and Luka knew that he would have to stick to the path as much as possible otherwise he might get lost forever in the forest's lush depths.
Finally, Luka cleared the bridge and entered the forest. The trees towered over him and Luka felt a comforting enclosure about them. They reminded him so much of how Nacrene felt: comforting and homely. The path that led back to Nacrene was a simple straight path but there was little chance of finding any Pokémon there. He got off the bike and stored it in an item ball. As he placed the item ball in his bag he brought out Kai's Pokéball. The little Tepig had no battle experience and was petrified of fighting, but, it knew Ember and in fighting grass type Pokémon that move would be perfect.
He released Kai from his Pokéball and bent down to talk to him. "Ok Kai. We're gonna have your first Pokémon battle, ok?"
The little Tepig shook its little head timidly. It squealed and snorted out a small ember onto the path.
Luka stroked and patted Kai's head. "It's ok, Kai. Nothing is going to hurt you. I won't let it. Ok? If anything gets even close to hurting you we have Squirt to help. Dad made sure to teach Squirt Ice Beam before I left for Castelia but we need to get you good at battling and I need to get good at it too. I can't just go and ask Burgh or Lenora for training without having any experience at all. They'd laugh me out of the building faster than Trubbish at a dump."
Kai's lower lip trembled and its eyes welled up with water but Luka's comforting stroking calmed it down and it nodded. The two walked a little further down the path and then headed a little bit off the beaten track with the path in sight so that they could find some Pokémon.
They were passing under a tree with roots that stuck out of the ground when Luka tripped over a white ball of fluff. He had been too busy making sure that Kai was ok and had neglected to look where his own feet were going and he was sent sprawling over a nearby root. He turned to see Kai running frantically towards him as the white ball of fluff unfurled to reveal a Cottonee.
Luka pointed at the Pokémon, "Kai, Ember!"
Tepig's eyes widened like a Buneary in headlights before turning to the now bounding Cottonee. It squealed in panic and snorted out a small Ember. It ran closer to Luka and the Cottonee merely bounced around the little flame and inched towards Kai.
Luka had picked himself and dusted himself off and was now intent on the battle at hand. Cottonee was a pure grass type Pokémon so Ember was the perfect offense. Luka said encouragingly to Kai, "C'mon Kai. Use your Ember and set my world alight with your joy? If you defeat this Cottonee you'll become so much stronger, I promise. Then, you won't need to be afraid anymore. Just use your Ember on the Cottonee."
Kai nodded reluctantly and grunted as its tail glowed a fiery red before letting loose a sizable flame from its snout. The flame hit the Cottonee and it screeched in pain. Kai whimpered and turned to Luka. It took Luka a while to realise that Kai was worried for the Cottonee's well being and was upset that it had hurt the poor thing. That upset was short lived as the Cottonee glowed green and began to suck the energy from Kai, restoring its own health. Kai squealed and a small flame jumped from its snout. The panic at having his energy sapped was immense. He ran around in a circle and hid under a root as he whimpered.
Luka leapt into action, booting the Cottonee square in the face and sending it flying against a tree. He ran to Kai and held the Tepig in his arms. He stroked its back and nuzzled his nose in Kai's back. "I'm so sorry, Kai. I'm so sorry. It's ok, it's ok." There was one thing that Luka had always been careful to avoid and that was harming a Pokémon himself. He consoled himself with the fact that Kai was in danger and was frightened and it was the quickest way to protect his dearest friend. Kai snorted happily in the comfort of Luka's arms and settled down to nap in his hold.
It was as Luka was heading back to the path that he spotted a leaf with a caterpillar like appendage beneath it hanging from a tree. He thought about all of the books he'd read and realised that before him hung a Sewaddle. Perfect. He released Squirt and the playful Tirtouga squirted some water in Luka's face. Wiping the water away, Luka pointed at the Sewaddle. "Squirt, use Ice Beam on that Sewaddle."
Squirt nodded and let the beam burst forth from his mouth. It hit the Sewaddle and the sewing Pokémon froze. Luka returned Squirt with a thanks and woke Kai up. "Okay Kai, you can do this. Squirt has frozen the Pokémon, all you have to do is Ember it. That should get it down to a low enough health level to let me capture it.
Kai nodded and jumped to the grassy floor. He pointed his snout at the Sewaddle and grunted out an Ember. The flame hit its mark and took the Sewaddle to what Luka guessed was half-health. The Sewaddle unfroze and turned around angrily to Luka and Kai. It screeched furiously and used String Shot on Kai, wrapping up his snout in sticky string. It then launched a Razor Leaf which hit Kai straight on the head, causing the Tepig to cry out in pain.
"Kai, Ember and then Ember again, you can do it."
Kai did as he was told and launched an Ember, burning the string that surrounded his snout. Then he launched another Ember which hit the Sewaddle and took it down even further. It stood heaving for a moment and Luka tossed a Pokéball at the Pokémon. The ball shook a couple of times before making a popping sound. With a look of disbelief, Luka picked the ball up off the ground. His first capture. He'd done it. Kai had done it. He lifted the little Tepig up off the ground and swung him around before giving him a hug. "We did it!" He jumped into the air. "We did it!" He swung Kai around again. "WE DID IT!"
Kai nodded cheerily and looked a little more confident in himself. He grunted and squealed and smiled at Luka. This capture had made him forget about the failure of the fight with the Cottonee and proved to him that he could fight.
Luka walked back onto the path and took out his bike, placing Kai in the fold out basket and grinning from ear to ear. He thought for a while about what to call his new Sewaddle. His Pokédex had told him that it was female so.... His new Sewaddle would be called Tayla.
Now it was time to return home for a rest before going to try and get Burgh to train him.

Takamaru was astonished to see the pokemon center up in flames, he was inches away from entering the building, just before Robby, when it went up in flames.
"wh..whats this?" he stuttered as he backed away from the ablaze building "who could have done such a thing" he said more to himself than to anyone else, concern, anger, and tears filling his eyes. his thoughts on the people and pokemon whom he knew may not make it out of the blaze in time.
Its was only by chance that Takamaru had taken his back pack with him when he left the center earlier that day, or it and all his possessions would too be up in flames.
by that time there was a small relief effort taking place by the towns people, authorities, and some trainers and there pokemon. he too let both Iron Hide and Spike from there Balls too help in the effort. Iron Hide attacking the blaze with his Tm taught 'Water pulse'. and lancer helping out but using Rapid spin on the ground to spray dirt onto the fire. though the blaze was still in progress...

Narration
Sprays of water and a crater of dirt. These things had been thrust onto the Pokemon Center. Smoke inhaled people were coughing as they escaped, barely, with their lives. While the efforts of bystanders was appreciated, not a single one did the right thing.
"These damn newbie trainers," said the fire marshal as the firetruck came onto the scene. Its horn blared as did its sirens, giving the trainers a good thirty second timeframe to get the ******** out of the several ton trucks way.
And then they went to work. Hose in the hydrant, several people herding Robby, Avan, Takamaru, Kijin and David away, or threatening to arrest them if they were intent on playing hero.
"Clear the scene, it's dangerous!" shouted one firefighters.
They'd have an EMT in a moment to check on injuries, furthermore, to get statements on what had happened. But first and foremost, these skilled men and women had a fire to put out and people to save.
Clad in gear, head to toe, armed with axes, a group went in while the hose sprayed a powerful burst, putting to shame the attempts of non-evolved Pokemon.

Dave emerged from the building after the fire department arrived, Cicero in his arms and Goliath behind him. He thanked the fireman that had entered and taken over, and turned to look at the building. "Damn, this has been a really rough day. Cicero, I'm sorry you had to deal with the heat twice." The Cubchoo looked up at his trainer with wide eyes, but nodded with a reassuring expression. Goliath grunted as he watched the firefighters put out the fire [What a mess....and my threads are ruined.] He looked down at his clothes, which were torn and burned away in areas. [But at least we are alright. I just wish I could evolve into a Beartic. Then I might have been strong enough to help more.] Cicero shook his head to Goliath. The Machamp crossed his arms. [No, you did the best you could with what you had to work with. I'm proud of you kid. Keep it up and one of these days you will definitely evolve.]

(Hey, how far in the day are we? are we nearing night time hourse or hows that wokring?)
"tch, we did what we could. bite me" spat Takamaru at a Fire marshal as he herded him off while being scolded for attempting to help out more, himself recalling both Spike and Iron Hide to there pokeballs. "you two did the best you could, and i think its sad that it took the fire department this long to respond" He put emphasis on the last phrase so the fireman that herded him off could hear, earning himself a dirty glare.
Looking away from the fire engines Takamaru realized that his eyes wernt playing tricks on him, the fire really WAS purple. "well, ill have to treat your wounds my self on the way outta this city" an irritated Takamaru said looking back down to his Karrablast whom was safely tucked away in his pokeball.
after which Takamaru walked swiftly towards the entrance to route 3.
[Whats wrong with Tk?] asked a concerned Lancer. [Nothing, hes just upset is all, that he couldn't be more help and whatnot] replied Iron Hide [yea, and his father was a pokemon ranger before he up and left so wanting to help people runs in his genes or something] pitched in Spike. [Sigh, Spike, those types of things don't 'run in your genes' he doesn't want to admit it but he looked up to his father, even though he claims to dislike him] finished Iron Hide [oh, well what ever, i was close] pouted Spike as Takamaru entered route 3.
