Basically their attempt to remove the inflation. 1 platinum=10000000 gold. All auction minimums are 10,000,000 gold. It made some items easier to get over others. You can change your settings from gold to platinum in your settings. You gain more platinum than you do equivalent gold in the daily chance, etc so they made it so that it is in your best interest to convert.
