The most common legend presents Aphrodite as having no parents, being born from the foam of the sea. According to this version, Cronus chopped off Uranus' genitals and threw them into the sea, with mixed results. The drops of blood which fell to the ground gave birth to the Erinyes, or Furies, evil and vengeful creatures, while the sea formed a white foam which gave birth to Aphrodite.
