for that reason, I have the tendency to keep my speakers off or on low volume and only turn them up if I really want to hear something... then turn them back down afterward.

My spouse has yet to learn this technique. I can't count how many times I've heard "YOU GOT MAIL!" blast throughout the apartment...

LMAO! UGH! I couldn't stand AOL when I had it! For that very same reason...since I've gotten my laptop, I have to get used to my speakers not being able to amp out alot unless the site I'm on has great sound quality already. I've been meaning to buy speakers for it(along with a cordless mouse and a webcam, I'm such a procrastinator! stressed ) but, alas, nothing doing...*finally submerges in tub* Better soak as much as possible, cause I got a feeling I'm about to have a horrible day at work! gonk

When I had aol, I disabled the "you got mail" sound as soon as I figured out how... same with all sounds associated with instant messaging.

We don't currently use aol for internet, but my spouse still uses their email service.
