Shen turned his attention to Chiya when her mind brushed against his. He nodded when she explained that she was going to transfer some linguistic information to his mind, though he didn't understand why she'd do that. The merman had been under the impression that the two females would teach him naturally, but perhaps it was different on land. He had been under the assumption that all languages were learned the same, but perhaps he'd been wrong all along.

(( Ugh...short. ))

Chiya closed her eyes and stayed dead still. On the outside it probably took her at least five minutes, but it felt like it took only seconds. She opened her eyes and looked at Shen intently, hoping he would learn on his own how to form the words on his tongue.
"Done."

Shen blinked when Chiya announced that she was finished transferring information into his brain. He didn't feel any different, but he did know a few new words and what they meant in respect to his native tongue. The merman didn't speak in light of this new information, mostly because his people didn't speak with excess. He let about a minute drift by before he took the cue that he was supposed to speak.
"Okay." Shen said, his accent sounding as if he'd come fresh from Korea.
Well, that would be a good cover, wouldn't it?

Chiya listened for a moment.
"Okay."
After a second passed, Chiya burst out laughing. His accent was so off English she just couldn't help it. He definately didn't look Korean at all. She wiped the happy tears from her eyes and smiled at him warmly.
"I am sorry, Shen. It's just that the way you talk sounds so...funny."
She flashed Kaori a bright smile that only an immortal could pull off. Chiya stood up and looked at Shen for a moment.
"I believe there is only a few things left to take care of, then. Can you stand, Shen?" she reached her small, pale hand towards him for him to grab for support.

Kaori grinned form ear to ear when Shen spoke. It was cute, the way he spoke. "It will be a good cover, the accent. Also it will get better as you learn more." she said to him, knowing he probably wouldn't understand it all, but hoping hearing the language would help him.

Shen smiled after Chiya began to laugh, learning from her tone of speech and what little he could understand that she wasn't mocking him. He figured that he probably sounded pretty weird and that he'd do the same thing if he was teaching her mermish. The merman didn't understand the concept of the word "stand" since there really wasn't an equivalent in his language, but he knew it had something to do with taking Chiya's offered hand. That...and perhaps it had a relationship with the act of balancing on the ends of one's legs. He didn't understand much of what Kaori said, but he was able to pick up the words "good," "you," and "learn." Shen reached for Chiya's hand with his own and grasped it before he attempted to repeat her behavior. He was pretty wobbly, like a toddler who was still in the roaming stage, and ended up using Chiya's hand for more support than he'd expected to.
"This...is..." The merman paused, trying to think of a word to express "difficult." "...hard?"
The tone over his last word was inquisitive because he wasn't sure it was the right word to use. Usually "hard" was used to describe a rock or something of a similar nature, not the difficulty of a situation.

Kaori's smile broadened as Shen spoke again. She moved to his side that wasn't supported by Chiya and held her arm out for him to take if he chose. "So, what do we do? Help him learn to walk around better?"

Chiya laughed lightly and held onto his hand tightly.
"Yes, it is. It is hard, difficult, unusual...etc. You know what? Maybe we should try the walking thing in the morning. Here. Kaori, help him mount me."
With that Chiya shifted in a blur into a black mare. She kept her neck under his arm to support him. At the moment she couldn't think of anything else to shift into that would support his weight and not be uncomfortable for her. And, no one would raise an eyebrow to a horse.
Maybe it would help for you to just get used to this new form and talking for an hour or two before walking. Don't need to overweigh your strength.

Kaori nodded and swiftly lifted her arms to where Shen could climb easily onto Chiya's back. "Mind if I join ya up there?" she said, more asking Chiya's permission to make sure not to strain her.

Chiya snorted.
Feh, why not. Although, I do not see why you want to...
Chiya pawed the ground a shook out her mane. The urge to run and snort and play poked at her like a hot iron.
Would you guys mind...if I ran? she asked as Kaori seated herself behind Shen.

"And that's why I'm on here right now." Kaori siad. Having some riding expirience, she grasped part of Chiya's mane with one hand and Shen's waist with the other, hoping it would not be uncomfortable for him. "Hold on." she said, loosening her grip to gesture as she spoke.

Shen didn't have any idea as to what Chiya turned in to, but when he was helped onto her back he figured it was a kind of transport animal. He understood her reasons for changing, but not why it was so urgent that they leave. Was it dangerous to linger here? The merman looked at Kaori's hands as one gripped the hair of the beast Chiya had turned into and as the other looped around his waist. The closeness didn't really bother him, personal bubbles for merfolk were generally small. Shen mimicked her behavior, taking a grip on the hair and deciding to put his other hand on the side of Chiya's neck for stability. The last thing he wanted was an experience in falling from such a height.

Kaori smiled at how comfortable Shen seemed with contact. It would help quite a bit later for learning to walk, and possibly for whatever crazed and frantic cover stories they used around others. "Good up here." she said, pressing her thighs into Chiya for extra grip so as not to fall off.

Chiya neighed. She shoved her hooves against the dirt and started off into a blinding run. The wind whipped against them, making her black mane fly out behind her. It was exhilarating, the feeling of flying across the ground.
Hold on tight.

Shen hadn't expected Chiya to take off with such speed and probably would have fallen off of her if Kaori hadn't been sitting behind him. He ended up ducking into her neck with one hand gripping her hair close to the neck and his other wrapped around whatever part of her neck he could get it around. The feeling of air rushing past was strange and foreign to the merman, who found it less enjoyable than most land creatures would. Hopefully this wouldn't take too long.
