About Me:
Belle is very elegant, feminine and carries herself with an unconscious grace. Despite her lineage, Belle is not an evil mare, she is very warm, kind, loving, and loyal to those family and friends who care enough to get to know her. She is also protective of them to the point of dangerous ferocity. Jezabelle has never killed for pleasure of for love of blood as some in her family have, but only as a means to satisfy the cravings that are her birthright and thus allow her to maintain control and live a normal life. After years of dealing with the alienation and disgust of those who found her habits strange or disturbing, she no longer has any patience when dealing with squeamish or cowardly soquili who chose to renounce her because of her unusual diet and non-Kalona appearance. Despite this painful rejection, Belle has not hardened her heart towards the world, like her mother and is still open to meeting new people and exploring new places.
Belle is a creature of the night in more ways than one. She is extremely photosensitive, a quality she inherited from her mother although it's intensity was honed by her fathers genes, being exposed to sunlight for even a short period of time brings on a splitting headache and intense nausea so she tends to take shelter during the day, emerging at night to feed and explore. As a foal, Belle wasn't affected by this trait, it emerged gradually as she grew older and firmly took hold in adulthood. Jezabelle has a craving for blood. She requires regular foods for nourishment but they are bland and don't fully satisfy her hunger, but she will not eat meat as she finds the texture and taste repulsive. Belle is unstable, If she doesn't satisfy her blood cravings her mental and physical stability deteriorate gradually, she becomes weak and hallucinatory after only a couple days without it. In a sense she has inherited, to a lesser degree, the bloodlust that plagues her mother. The difference is that Belle can stave off the episodes by satisfying her morbid cravings regularly so as long as she has the means to do so, she remains fully in control of herself. She gets the blood she needs either by killing small animals with her cleaver and draining them or by taking blood from a living donor. (Unless she is hunting she carries the cleaver out of sight in one of the pouches on her back) Jezabelle inherited her father's fangs which she generally uses to puncture the skin at the base of the donor's neck although technically any major artery would work just as well. Belle finds the impulsive violence and slaughter that her parents and a few of her siblings indulge in as crude and wasteful. But while she may look down upon some of their actions she loves them, even her mother despite what Jessamine put her through, and always tries to take their eccentricities in stride because of that.
History
Jezabelle is the daughter of Jessamine, a mare with no known kalona or skinwalker relatives, who suffers from an uncontrollable bloodlust which drives her to maim, kill, and feast upon her victims; As well as of Relic, a compulsive kidney thieving 'doctor' from the Bloodmoon carnival. Belle and her siblings were conceived in a night of passion and their parents parted ways the next morning. Jessamine discovered herself pregnant shortly after, less than a year since giving birth to her first children whom she abandoned with a trustworthy angeni stallion. Jessamine intended to leave the baskets in separate homes this time around, as it was difficult to move more than one at a time with any amount of speed or stealth, but the plan went awry. To her mother's horror, Jezabelle emerged from her basket the night before she was to be transferred to her new home. Despite herself, Jessamine became attached to her daughter and didn't want to have to give her up. She kept Belle in a small Den in a secluded section of the forest with her familiar, Cleaver, to stand guard while she was away hunting. There Belle remained for the first part of her childhood, her mother returning regularly to bring food and Cleaver hunting while she was away to provide the filly with food and the blood she craved. Jessamine knew that this was no way for her daughter to grow up but her guilt wasn't enough for her to overcome her selfish desire to keep her daughter for herself, safe in their tiny home and far away from any who would steal Belle's affection from her.
Jezabelle escaped her possessive mother while still on the brink of adulthood. Sheltered and inexperienced in the wide world outside of her home, she nearly starved to death fleeing as far from her mother as possible before she adopted the practice of following behind other , larger, predators to scavenge the remains of their kills until she regained her strength. When she finally matured, she was still not much larger than a foal, not an ideal size for a huntress, but she was quick, and like her mother before her, found her disarming appearance to be particularly useful to luring in prey. She experienced some of the same rejection as her mother, feeling between worlds as the regular soquili rejected her for her bloodlust and her meat eating brethren thought her small and weak, her blood diluted and useless. Belle became viciously indignant, going through a rather savage phase where she made her small patch of territory as notoriously feared as that of the fiercest predator.
Two things turned her away from that bloodthirsty path, first, she met her father and sister. Their love and acceptance tempered the terrible rage driven by loneliness and despair. Second, she met and fell in love with the large and honorable stallion, Laertes. Theirs was a whirlwind romance, they were young, and lifemated before they really got to know each other. Over time their differences began to drive a wedge between them and by the time Belle found out she was pregnant, their relationship was rocky and unhappy. She gave birth to three healthy foals shortly before the two decided to break their lifemating, to her intense heartache, Laertes resumed his travels. This time with one of their daughters in tow. By this time Belle had reunited with most of her immediate family, finding them one by one and bringing them together slowly. She had even reopened communication with her mother. Her young niece, Risti, stayed with her to help look after the foals when she had to hunt and she joined her grandfather's herd for added protection upon being introduced to him by her mother and aunt.
Saxon and Claudette grew up and foals were wont to do and began their own lives. Without motherhood to distract her, Jezabelle was hit with the full force of her sorrow over her broken lifemating. It was the first time she had been rejected by someone she loved, rather than a stranger, because of who she was. She began travelling away from the herd lands, she wasn't sure what she was looking for, but she needed to find her center again. She met and befriended a stallion named Wisp during her travels, they had plenty in common and he didn't flee in disgust when she revealed her rather unusual diet. They planned to meet again soon and feeling better than she had in a long time, Belle returned home. When she arrived, her family informed her that Claudette had gone missing. Frantic, Jezabelle rushed to where Claudette had last been seen to try to track her down, she found evidence that her daughter had been viciously attacked right before being attacked herself by the skinwalker Howl. Their fight was long and bitter and although Belle managed to escape with her life, she was severely injured and nearly bled to death while trying vainly to return to Vincento and the rest of the herd to inform them of what had befallen Claudette. She knew she couldn't possibly reach the herd before dying of blood loss, she stopped to rest and to attempt to tie a tourniquet, she nearly passed beyond the point of no return. A medic named Risk happened upon her and managed to patch her up, she took a long time to recover physically, but her real wounds were more than skin deep. Belle began experiencing flashbacks and nightmares about her attack, unbeknownst to her, Claudette had survived, albeit barely, her attack by Howl and was by now recuperating in the graveyard with Cethin Deathbringer and Grave. Belle felt sure her daughter was now dead, if not from the attack, then by now from her injuries, and felt if only she could have reached help in time, that Claudette could have been saved. She blamed herself for the loss of another of her children and the evil and terror she had experienced during her encounter with the skinwalker made her question her own goodness as she also had hunted, although she no longer needed to kill, she had killed in the past, and feeling what her prey must have felt plagued on her mind much longer than the wounds plagued her flesh.
Belle was headed down a dark road, the madness that runs in her family began to prey upon her mind in opportunistic hunger, she began to seek out danger and darkness. She began feverishly training, planning on facing the skinwalker that had harmed her and her child and exacting revenge. In the midst of her internal struggle, Wisp reappeared. His words and strong influence began to drag her back from the brink of madness. She became more lucid, albeit her thirst for vengeance remained. Their love blossomed and was a balm to her torn soul. Wanting to test her newfound skills, Belle tracked down a skinwalker. It was the wrong one, but it was deadly, despite her training, she found herself woefully outmatched. In that moment, fighting for her life, Belle felt the new lives within her move for the first time. She realized she was pregnant and was no longer putting just herself in danger, she was risking the lives born from the love shared between her and Wisp. She escaped, barely, with only a few minor wounds and returned to Wisp. They lifemated and in the due course of such things, Belle gave birth to their first offspring together. Although Belle was still wary around her mother, she finally returned home to the herd to present her younger children and mate to her grandfather and Patriarch, Vincento. He welcomed Wisp as an honorary member, free to come and go in the herdlands, and they were happy. Belle, surrounded by those she loved, began to heal from her daughter's death in a more healthy manner.
