When the pair had gotten back to the gate, Tomoko waited expectantly for the next portion of this little night-time field trip, just to find a rather horrified look came over her face as the 'Mischief' fellow proved he lived up to his name rather well... by bringing out some dark shadow-y thing that apparently was going to be fended off by various items from inside of the school.
Bah.
Tomoko seemed to freeze up, holding the math textbook she'd acquired to her chest. Then she took a deep breath and lobbed the book at the thing with a very serious look on her face. "They do this to us all the time!" she seemed to sigh. "Guess you have to hope you get used to it..." because Tomoko clearly hadn't gotten used to it at all.
Having a companion as good as his parnter's seemed pretty useful - watching the dog-on-fire bounce around, picking up what-have-you from where ever he was flitting around to, making the feline king kind of ache for his little furry friends, having forgotten to bring any of them around. Moving his mask over his face a little more, he waited for his first year companion to finish her little chore, figuring she had gotten it all down pat.
Clearing his throat, he gave her a quick smile as they slowly strolled back towards the entrance, picking up the glowing mushroom a little and musing to himself about it. "S'been over two years I've been here, I'm considered a year two student, but I've been hanging around long enough to see some people who are closer to graduation come around in." He offered to her question, giving her a soft and yet smug grin back, tail wicking at the air lightly.
Upon seeing the little crisis that was happening as the turned the bend - a giant dark whatever-that-was of the week hounding students from where MM stood, he gave a slightly defeated sigh, looking it over with lidded green eyes, before turning to her. "I hope you and the pup are ready for a little action." He offered, before grabbing one of the leaves to throw at the whatever-it-was, hoping to use it as a distraction.
The fact that they worked better as a projectile weapon was beyond him though, and taking to dashing a bit away so he could be a short distraction, he winked at his partner, expecting her to have fun.

So he was a vet. She could sort of tell by his swagger, and how he seemed to be surrounded by the other students before the pairing off went down. "Fair enough~" she replied with a nod of approval. Hey some people just needed some extra time to get through situations! Wasn't any rush anyway.
Cannon earned some pats and pets and rubs behind the pointed ears in praise as they started back to the rest of the group at the gate. Verusha glanced over to her partner as the little mushroom was plucked up to be the star of their gathered materials, grinning as Jack inspected it thoroughly. It was pretty cute. She hadn't seen something like those before! then again, not much grew from where her parents were from. And she visited there often... more so than the house they actual lived in! But once they got close enough to the other students and the mysterious man, Cannon began to growl, his lips peeling back slightly to bare his dangerously sharp canines, brow furrowing, and glowing gaze narrowed sharply. He took a stance in front of Jack and Verusha, while they listened to the instruction given. In truth.. the reaper didn't find the 'foe' to be that frightening or intimidating. But hey! This could be fun! With Jack's prompting, she shot a confident grin of her own right back, "you better believe it." she replied playfully, before following suit.
Once the feline made his move, causing Verusha to giggle lightly at the tactic used, she went on to give it a shot too. She danced a little closer, daringly closer, to the strange black figure, and took up the glue bottle to squirt it at the things eyes! More than pleased, she backed out of the way from getting hit too hard, glancing back to her partner to see his next move, "you're up next, kitty~" she teased.
To anyone else, it would have appeared as if Jack was dancing with whatever was coming at him, sometimes getting in the way of the projectiles, trying to use the leaves they had picked up to reflect the damage, sometimes hitting. He was not a fighter, and it was pretty evident in his messiness when it came to deflecting attacks coming for him.
He did, however, have pretty good aim when it came to attacking things, which befuddled him a little - it would be a good decision to consider it in the future, and seek out someone to consider honing some of skills. It was one thing to be a pacifist - it was another to blindly go in to battles not knowing what he was doing when he needed to defend himself.

Despite both of their efforts it seemed that they were neck in neck with this strange thing, getting shots here and giving some there! But now it seemed they were now more on the receiving side of things! Watching Jack was amusing, to say in the least, and even earned a quirked brow from Cannon from the spectacle. Hey, if the guy was having fun, Verusha couldn't blame him!
With the glue bottle spent, she used it to chuck at the ominous blob, hitting it in the 'gut' but clearly not doing much damage what with the bottle hardly holding any girth to it, "Bullseye~" she chimed playfully. Playing sports gave her a killer throwing arm, which could clearly come in handy from time to time.

"Well done, my friend~" He sing-songed to his partner as they continued to try and dwindle down the black blob, glowing eyes watching the reaper throw the glue at the monster blob, he used it as a good intiative to get closer to the demon, hoping that he could get any more strikes on it from where he was standing. It seemed to be . . . a little more effective, even if it was kind of like dancing under fire.

Sophie stared at the.. what the hell was that exactly? And they were supposed to fight it? Sophie had never fought in her life; not unless wrestling with younger kids counted and she was pretty sure it didn't since this certainly wasn't a young child messing around. She froze, unsure of what to do, eyes wide as she clutched the text book and piece of paper to her chest.
Then she saw a text book fly threw the air and smack the.. thing in the face. Sophie held her text book out in front of her and stared at it a few times, as if she was unsure of its existence. Reaching her arm back, she threw it directly at the.. thing with a very uncharacteristic roar.
"This kinda stuff pops up all the time." Tomoko confessed as she retrieved her text book awkwardly from underneath the shadow, then suddenly brought it swinging upwards to smack it. She kind of felt bad about it, to be honest. Maybe it was a friendly shadow. Maybe she needed to take it to the school nurse after this was all done.
Ahhhhhhhh!
She scurried away rather quickly after she'd hit the thing again, however. "Gotta get used to this if you're gonna go on the field trips too..." she murmured to Sophie as though it was a giant secret.
Sophie raised a brow. This kind of thing happened on a regular basis? Her parents and Alex both forgot to mention that little fact. Though, maybe her parents weren't even aware of the fact.. Sophie reached out a leg and used it to drag the book towards her. "It's not so bad, I guess. At least it's not breathing fire," she said with a shudder.
Jump forward, she held the book with two hands and smacked the thing right in its.. kind of cute in a sad kind of way face. Sophie jumped back and looked at Tomoko. "Is there worse things than this?"
"You mean this one is not breathing fire..." as if suddenly aware of the flames on her tails, Tomoko carefully made sure those were just...not..over by Sophie at all. Because she didn't want to make the ghoul uncomfortable in the least.
"The one field trip I went one....." Tomoko's eyes glazed over, as if trauma was reentering her mind, before they teared up a little bit. "Lots of bad stuff happened. It gets way worse than fighting a shadow with a book." she confessed as she hit the shadow with her book again.
A slightly smug and even cocky grin shifted onto Verusha's face from the compliment, plucking the mushroom from her partner's hand with a little wink before situating it between a thumb and forefinger. Closing one of her eyes, she aimed the little fungi towards the unwelcomed guest, while her other hand rested behind it, a finger pulled back to give a firm flick and send the little shroom flying into the beasty's mouth, "eat up~" she chuckled, before taking a few steps back, "We gotta wrap this up, Jack~" she chimed to the feline, "It's now or never. " Cannon by now had decided he'd just sit and watch the fiasco... as he was of no use in this unfortunate situation.

The large thing took him aback. He wasn't sure what to make of it, and ended up just stranding there for quite a while like a doofus. It took Millie's first through to jog him out of his confusion. And then he watches everyone elses throws...
"Y-yes. What is this. Why must we fight that thing!"
Looking down at the items that Millie handed him, he squeezed the glowing mushrooms roughly and watched as the crushed under his hands. The ooze of the mushrooms stuck together into a disgusting liquid. Not too mention they smelled HORRIBLE.
Zephyros uses this as an opportunity to rub it around the remaining glowing mushrooms and chucks it at the monster. Hopefully the smell of the items disgust it enough..
.. Nope, it looked even more anger at that. Zephyros got knocked back by the smell more than it did.
Yeah that's fine, I'm sorry I didn't post sooner I got caught up in work and school!

(( I'm gonna give everyone until tonight @ 10 PM EST to finish up this part - I'm sorry again for the lag, work and stuff is keeping me on my toes :T ))
Distracted by a passing purple moth, Millie totally forgot that she was in battle. The smell of the stinky mushrooms got her attention as they signaled her turn.
"Phew..." Millie covered her nose and chose one of the hairbands and tried enchanting it with a fire spell. The spell looked to be sucessful, but as she lobbed the flaming hairband at the strange creature, it seemed to do nothing.
It took Millie a few moments to realize she had also succeed in setting the sleeve of her dress on fire.
"AAAIIIEEEEEEE!" Millie screamed and started running in circles which only made the fire larger.
