He's pretty quiet and is kind of an introvert. If she brought him out to have fun, he'd probably try tho. IDK HOW HE'D TAKE A WILD NIGHT... /shotded

XD

LMAO it can be a soft and gentle experience for them both. 8 ) She's not used to interacting with other soq, so they come off as grating for her (similar to how when someone's half-awake, it's easier for them to grow frustrated since they're not conscious enough to take in and respond to others at a normal speed.......... if that makes sense...).

She'd really appreciate his quiet nature, and would be down for a lot of body-language communication rather than speaking through words! They could cuddle for warmth, and all that cute stuff. 8 ) She mainly sticks around a dense and lowly-populated forest since that's where she grew up in, and I could see them meeting and bonding if he got lost in there and was trying to ask her for help!

Does something like that sound okay?

THat sounds bloody adorable and i'm all for it XDD

Attempting to gather up some scattered info regarding existing or new pairs.

  • Jeremiah x Hurricane Bedelia (.Tortured. .Pumpkin.)
Bedelia guards a patch of beach she calls her own. This is where she and Jeremiah meet.

They initiate a casual business relationship, where Bedelia scouts for Jeremiah's herd. To quote myself,
"He's down with any type of member that'd be beneficial, so it could be a super casual relationship where she can pass on news (of any soq around the area that can benefit from their services (: their main line of work is targeting people in desperate situations, but are also willing to offer labor or be commissioned to steal something or blackmail/threaten someone) if he or other herd members pass by? And they can see how prospective the work would be and go from there. With such a relationship, she'd be able to drop out at any time if she/you ever decided it simply doesn't fit; she can just tell the next person who comes to her that she's no longer interested and they'll pass the word on to Jeremiah. *v*)b"

  • Axelle x Darian (hanging gallow)
Darian courted Axelle, knowing that, as a prominent member of a kalona-supremist herd, Axelle would suffer scrutiny and likely be killed for bearing mix-blooded children. If Axelle was older, or wiser, she might have seen that she was neither impervious to nor protected from the cruel and ruthless strength she so admired in him. As it was, their coupling bore fruit. Darian considered his work complete and disappeared, leaving her to deal with the consequences.

Axelle was already beginning to show by then, and she took this as cue to leave the herd for an extended "scouting mission." She spent the ensuing months in hiding, knowing that her distinctive neon markings would make her easy to remember and fearing some offhanded mention of her pregnancy would reach her herd.

Despite her worries, nothing ever came of it. She gave birth with no issue, spent a week recovering, and winged it back home.

To this day, she has no idea what became of her children.

  • Axelle x Alc'ander (Tara de Draiocht), Torva Messor (Tara de Draiocht), Vladimir (Kesmi)
Anchovy x Arkesh Coppertak (Elf Princess Flannery), Nekoda (Kaitaia), Pitter Patter (Kyrieko)
From what I recall, these breedings were surrogate offers. My soquili and their mates will be the predominant caretakers of the children.

  • Inugami x H'ren (Kyrieko)
This takes place some time after Inugami leaves the Flock, but before she becomes truly twisted. She sought help from a trainer to increase her fighting ability. A stallion, H'ren, came to watch on the side, before asking to be taken as a student as well. The two trained together afterwards, resulting in a friendly rivalry and relationship.

Inugami eventually became pregnant with his children. The baskets were left in the care of H'ren's mother, Dal'nia (Kyrieko), so that she could continue to focus on her studies. When her training was done, she left with the blessing of her mentor, H'ren, and Dal'nia.

  • Inugami x Zephaniah (mindsend)
Inugami is captured by Nameless the Animal Keeper (mindsend) and her team. Twins Eremiel (mindsend) and Zephaniah (mindsend), as well as Inugami's sister (raised by their father, while Inugami was raised by their mother), Cŵn Annwn (Kamiki), are there, too, kept to be a part of Nameless' shows. Nameless attempts to curse her to provide her audience with a better show; the powder fails to take hold, however, which teaches Inugami of her immunity to Corpse Powder.

Over time, the sisters are able to work together to break out. However, both are left with a reminder of their time there, in the form of Eremiel and Zephaniah's children. (Note: Canonically, the brothers are very small.)

    Re: Nameless
Inugami would not have positive feelings about Nameless or the show; however, she was never able to find or exact any revenge on the mare.

    Re: The Father
All four of them (Inugami and her sister, Zephaniah and his brother) split up so they wouldn't be easy to track or recaptured. They intended to group up later, but the nearly blind brothers became lost, and the sisters had no choice but to move on without them.

Zephaniah does not know of her pregnancy. Inugami, feeling as if she is still not yet ready for parenthood, returns to the Flock. There, she finds her mother's main hunting teacher, Kamunyak, and leaves her basket with the mare in secret.

  • Inugami x Screamforge "The Just" (ProphetOfProfit) @ 06/28/16
The two have shared views, save for the fact that Screamforge does not feast on the fallen; rather, he prefers to make them suffer.

They have children they raise to follow in their footsteps. (One or more may potentially turn out evil to torment them and force them to make a hard decision.) After that, they go their own way; however, should they cross one another's paths, they would be happy to share their like-minded company and hunt down evil together once more, before going their own way again.

  • Jinko x Kazimir (Xx--Fuzzy-Gumdrop--xX)
Kazimir is not the most lawful of individuals. He sees Angeni as pure, and has a twisted desire to crush that purity. Although he never physically harms Jinko, he works to shatter her mind and spirit, driving off what few memories remained to her of her time with her blood family and turning her cynical.

Jinko will abandon the children. Kazimir will take them, killing any he deems weak.

  • Jinko x Vinkal Nox (Kamiki), Alderaen (Meepfur)
Jinko's time with these stallions help acclimate her to soquili society, even if only a little bit, and allows her to begin to trust other individuals again.

  • Jinko x Lyrroth (samus x)
    Fling

  • Jinko x Lucius (Ovarian Paint) @ 06/18/16
Jinko was split off from her family and raised by a snake, so like Lucius, she doesn't understand social norms. Her mental maturity is similar to that of a child, in the sense that she expresses herself simply and bluntly if she chooses to speak at all. She's skilled at living on her own and getting the lay of the land, though, but she prefers to spend her time in solitude rather than causing trouble (or giving aid) to anyone. Her relationship with Lucius is a simple fling.

  • Bitey x Legion (Kamiki)
    Kamiki's singles thread.

  • Bitey x SkullKandy (II--Gen3sis--II)
Despite the sharp differences in personality, Bitey and Skull manage to form a friendship. Their bond solidifies as they continue to meet one another over the years, especially after Skull helps her deal with the loss of her baskets with Legion. Skull also meets with Jin-Soo, Bitey's father, during his travels. He's the one that tips Jin off to the fact that Bitey may need help, leading to Jin participating in the Kalona War.

  • Nausikaa x Star Sky (o-Elixir-o)
Star Sky will stick around to help raise the foals. If this breeding remains a fling, he'll go his own way after they reach adulthood.

  • Rán x Enoch (one over three)
Fling; I don't know if Enoch will know about the children???

  • Rán x Kazimir (Fuzzy-Gumdrop)
Kazimir is fond of mind games, as well as strong children. Rán becomes his target for a time, once he discovers the strength she possesses. He pretends to be an amicable individual to get close to her; however, she soon discovers his dark nature and chases him off, although she later realizes she's carrying his children.

Kazimir will return for them so that his mother can properly raise them. While they will remain protected within the herd, Kazimir manages to steal one when it leaves the protection of its herdmates. This fuels Rán's hatred for chaotic individuals.

  • Rán x Umbriel Belitas (Kyribird)
Fling; he is fine with the children being raised in CoE (though OOC we may plot for Kyri's basket to not end up in the herd).

  • Rán x Linnaeus (Lita Rutherford) @ 06/27/16
Linnaeus is a scholar devoted to the sciences. However, it doesn't mean he's knowledgeable when it comes to social etiquette, and he may come across cold. Rán is able to overcome this, ultimately dragging his nose out of his studies so that the two can have a little adventure.

He understands the upbringing of the herd and is fine with them; as a result of his studies, he wouldn't have much time to spend on family. He'd be content to know they were well-taken care of; on the off-chance he came across them on a field trip, he would encourage them to do well in their lessons.

  • Rouxe x Ksiyemoshun Sikteqqiye (hanging gallow)
Fling; I don't know if Sikt will know about the children???

  • Elijah x Marquis Etienne de Lusiant Opal (hanging gallow) @ 07/20/16
A young Elijah develops a crush on the self-assured Opal. When a Wishing Star appears, he wishes for the stallion's happiness, and, to his surprise, he's granted baskets. While at first he intended to take them to his herd, Opal's Spymaster collects them instead, promising they will be well cared for (especially considering Opal's wealth).

  • Ezra x Eleniel (LOLTERNATIVE)
Eleniel wants to infiltrate herds with her progeny. The children she has will be left with Ezra to be taken back to CoE.

  • Ezra x Constantine (Vistada)
Crack breeding. Canonically, the breeding would not be between them, but between Ezra x an NPC relation of Constantine; thus, it would still be canon for the resulting offspring to be able to use the parents and their ancestors as throwbacks.

This would have taken place while Ezra was still young and roaming the lands.

Permission can be found in: Logger7

  • Reaver Sinclair x Beatrix (Peppermint Coffee), Evangeline (-MoomoolatteCha-) @ 05/07/17
Beatrix was described as being lightly spacey. This seems to tie into Evangeline (-MoomoolatteCha-) being her next fling, who was described as having little emotion. Perhaps she's interested in enigmatic types?

  • Reaver Sinclair x Diabolus (Kyaishi & AlexiaSilver) @ 07/29/17
Any interaction between the parents will end once the children are conceived. However, Diabolus may make attempts to visit the foals during their field trips, lure them from watchful, protective eyes, and turn them down a darker path.

  • Garland x Neomonni (mindsend)
    Mind's singles thread.

  • Perish Song x Cirein-cròin (Celestial Requiem)
    Celestial's plot thread.

  • Koi x Feredir (Uta) @ 05/07/17
Feredir was described as a callous individual with a heart of ice. His interaction with Koi would probably be similar to Koi and Rook's dynamic, where the latter is curt and simply orders him about with little regard for his mental or emotional happiness.

Summary of AIM discussion with bella dea, regarding Ceto x Kestrel.

  • Ceto and her family live in isolation, leading her to feel like a prisoner in her own home. She wants to leave, and it is in this state that Kestrel finds her. Kestrel, immediately captivated by her singing, is taken with her despite her sarcastic personality. He kidnaps her from her home.
  • Quickly, they learn to stay together out of mutual interest. A big part of Kestrel's character had always been his greed, and he was happy to look after her and treat her well so long as she stayed with him. Meanwhile, Ceto realized she could benefit from the scenario, and welcomed his protection and his care while she learned to navigate the world outside her home.
  • However, Ceto did not intend to leave one prison for another. Over time, she began to feel suffocated, knowing Kestrel's kindness and guardianship came at the cost of her freedom. Finally, she tells Kestrel she wants to leave.
  • Kestrel refused, and pursued her whenever she tried to escape. With his superior stamina, he was ever to overtake her each time. However, he knew he would not be able to keep it up forever, and tried to convince her to change her mind. He brought back more treats, preened her more often, and tried to be even more obliging towards her wishes (except to let her leave, of course). In addition, he overhears another stallion mention how foals have brought him and his mate "closer than ever," and begins to court Ceto, too, in hopes that their having children together would bind her to him.
  • Ceto is won over, and agrees to stay with him.
  • Ceto's agreement, as well as her pregnancy, convinces Kestrel of her loyalty. Both are able to settle into a comfortable lifestyle.
  • Kestrel's interest in the children had been solely to keep Ceto with him, and he does not spare much thought for them after he learns the pregnancy had been successful. However, a part of the reason Ceto had stayed was because she had expected a good father for her children, and that Kestrel would be as devoted to caring for them as he'd been to her. Thus, she encourages him to interact with them, and teaches him how to be a father.

  • They are happy now, and happier still once their children are fully grown and able to leave the nest. But it doesn't last forever. Ceto's children might be free, but she is still a captive, and when she realizes she's falling in love with another, she chooses to keep the relationship a secret, lest Kestrel chase the soquili away. Kestrel had grown confident in her fidelity during their years together, and does not keep as close an eye on Ceto as he used to. He suspects nothing, and Ceto is able to sneak away to be with her beloved.
  • Kestrel is heartbroken, and searches desperately. Years pass, and he remains unsuccessful. He does not give up, but he doesn't devote as much time as he used to in his frantic hunt for her.
  • By chance, he comes across Ceto with her companion. His first instinct is to take her back, but stronger than his desire is his realization: he sees how jubilant she is with her new life, and he knows he cannot take her from that. He turns, intending to leave, but Ceto catches sight of him and approaches.
  • They have a brief exchange, and are able to have closure before saying their farewells. Despite the way Kestrel behaved, Ceto had genuinely loved him and regretted that she was put in a position where she was forced to flee. Now that they've spoken, she knows she can live her life without having to look over her shoulder. For his part, Kestrel finally understands that it is wrong for him to force another to stay with him.

Notes on lasting effects, and what happens after:
  • Kestrel's relationship with Ceto would have taken place early on in his life. Thus, to ensure compatibility with his other flings (which had been planned with him being indifferent toward the fate of his children as well as their mothers, so that the mares could take them to their respective herds), I wanted to clarify what he took away from the experience and what changed since.

  • Kestrel would have learned it was wrong for him to holds others captive against their wishes. In addition, he has learned to take an interest in others beside himself, even if it would put him at a disadvantage. To be clear, it is not a drastic change. For instance, he would be willing to go out of his way to tell an individual about a delicious patch of berries nearby. However, he would not encumber himself with helping another fight a predator off out of goodwill alone.
  • He will retain his possessiveness and selfish traits, but will not be so quick to disregard others' opinions. If he has taken to another, he may choose to follow them but will not be so open with his harassment. If they disapprove, he will know he is in the wrong (instead of believing his actions are justified, as he had with Ceto), but whether or not he continues to follow this course of action will depend on the scenario. In addition, it is unlikely that he will be interested in another for as long as he was with Ceto. At most, he might choose to follow them for a few months, but he will ultimately lose interest and move on.
  • To put another way, he has learned from his experiences with Ceto and has become a better person, but is not yet a lawful individual. He will remain chaotic neutral.

  • When it comes to children, at first, he might have been under the impression that the bond between parents only lasts as long as the children are physically there—that is, that he'd made a mistake when he did not begin to court Ceto again as soon as their first litter had grown.
  • However, after his exchange with Ceto, he understands that the problem had been with him, and that children had nothing to do with it. With time, and more flings under his belt, he understands he can have children with neither parent caring romantically for the other.
  • While he now has some experience with raising children, he remains uninterested in looking after them unless some other factor compels him.
  • He will remain attached to the children he raised with Ceto. He would not go out of his way to seek them out, but he would welcome them with open arms if he found them in his territory.

Record and summary of PM discussion with junglerunner, regarding Solange x Lazarus. Posted with permission.

Quote:
Quote:
User Image
Name: Solange

Personality: Once a quiet but loving foal/young mare, she wanted nothing more than to please those around her, she gave everything to serve others. She never possessed much talent at healing when trailing out which discipline to train in, some of the more traditionalist amongst her old herd would say thats because she lacks a true unicorn tail and her eyes green and horn tainted black. But her heart was large and she went to train as a Cherubim, finding joy in caring for others in a different way than. But her tuition wasn’t long started before a an unfortunate event occurred (see history).

After those events Solange was quite a different mare. She was quieter in an uncomfortable way to be around and was scared of her own shadow. She avoids interaction with others at all costs, her heart wasn’t turned to ice just simply boxed and chained away in a small corner of her soul never to be opened for fear of destruction.

She can’t abide her hair being dirty, she spends hours grooming herself, standing in cold mountains rivers allowing her long locks to swirl about in the crystal waters and numbing her body before living a simple existence.

How does this soquili fit into the herd? History/background: Solange was a young mare, and still in training/under apprenticeship, she was training into the roll of Cherubim. During the carnage and destruction of the original herd Solange was in the area where the foals were being brought up away from the main herd land, but a message was run out to where she and a limited number of adults were and they all rushed to place the foals into hiding. She remembers her tutor urging her to find cover after the foals where hidden and so she hid in thick undergrowth but somewhere she could still view the hiding spots of one or two of the foals she’d hidden.

The cries began to fill the air and she began shaking uncontrollably, not knowing whether to stay hidden or break her cover and run. That was it, Solange with little more that a foal herself, not long having come of age and she couldn’t hold her nerve anymore she darted from her hiding spot, stood out in the open for a moment her heart telling her to run for her family in the main herd grounds and her head telling her to hide once again. She heard her tutor hiss from her hiding spot but before she could answer one of the six male foals they were caring for broke cover and began grouping up his siblings and running off. The other adults who were their carers charged after the boys but Solange could not follow them, to afraid she ran blinded by fear towards the main herd lands to search for her own parents.

Solange would never forget the smell in the air as she neared the lands she had called home, cries coming from mouths of friends and loved ones she couldn’t even begin to comprehend with the combination of pain and fear they portrayed. Her head screamed at her as she charged forwards, but her heart drove her on, searching in vain hope for protection from her parents, though as she came upon the main site of the massacre she stood shock still staring at disbelief at what her eyes showed her. She stared at the dismembered forms of Soquili she knew and loved, including her own mother….

She couldn’t move until she heard an evil snarl to her right, head took control and she began to run, over the bodies of the dead, her white hair becoming stained in blood and mud… she stumbled and landed hard, her face landing level to stare into dead eyes of a Soquili she’d known well. She sobbed but with some inner strength she rose and began galloping at full speed away from the carnage and all she once knew.

Afterwards Solange found herself leading a life of solitude high in the snow peaked mountains, the cold preventing her from feeling, she enjoyed the numbness it brought physically and emotionally. She also now has a trait where she can’t stand her hair being anything other than sparkling white. After days of blood stained hair she tends to panic as soon as it tarnishes now, reminding her of past events. She spends hours grooming her hair now and foraging for the limited food and grazing the mountains have to offer.

Relatives, if any? All deceased.

Permission for relations: N/A

Plots: What plots do you have for this soquili in rejoining the herd?

Anything else?

So you see, I think she'd need someone to care for her, or bring her out enough to trust them etc... let me know what you think though.

Quote:
Notes:
Laz entered relationships that realistically would not last long-term. However, it was not a conscious choice. On the contrary, he fell heavily in love with his partners + believed they would last forever, and for the most part it was his partners' choice to leave rather than his own. (To be clear, they left for good reasons, because Laz still has a lot to learn. XD However, if the choice was his, the relationships would not have terminated the way they did.) It isn't until after he starts his relationship with Kianzio post-Mest that he begins using relationships as a tool.

Thus, it's possible for them to have canonically met after Lazarus and Mest broke up, but before he partnered up with Kianzio for the purpose of training children to be his minions.

Summary:
  • While Lazarus and Mest's relationship was, at times, tenuous, they always managed to stick together. A sensitive point in their relationship, however, was that Mest was much more devoted to their children than Laz was. While Laz made some attempts, it was clear he only did so out of love for Mest, rather than love for the children themselves.

The tipping point came when an old enemy of Mest's, named Lux, returned and set their home ablaze. During that time, Laz made his priorities clear: with the help of his wings, he fled the scene to reach safety, leaving their foal and unborn baskets behind.

Mest left him after that, unable to bear being with a partner who would let their children die.

  • Humiliated and frightened by the flames, Lazarus could have sought shelter in the snows. While he never loved his children, he did love Mest, and he is clearly pained by the loss. Solange finds him in this state and extends shelter (temporary or no).

  • Regardless of how long she actually intended to help him, a storm takes place, forcing them to seek shelter in close quarters for an extended period of time. To ward off boredom (and perhaps thinking that they may die, and that this will be their last moment), they talk to one another, chipping away at outer shells to discuss topics that might otherwise never see the light of day.

Lazarus mentions the cause of his wretchedness: the lover who left him, their dead children. Solange can relate to the pain of losing family, especially ones murdered by the hands of others. Lazarus would be too ashamed to mention his escape--not because he thinks it was wrong, but because Mest reacted so strongly to it. Solange would be able to assume that he tried his best to save his children, but that Mest's enemy and the fire she caused was too strong for him. In addition, the way Laz tells the story would likely imply that Mest left him because Laz reminded him of the children they lost (instead of, you know, Laz being the reason they were unable to be saved in the first place XD;).

Solange, in turn, mentions that she lost her family as well. The two are able to connect based on shared tragedy.

To be clear, Laz's empathy for Solange's past would be genuine--just not in the way she imagined. Instead of despairing over his lost children, her story would remind him of the only family he knew and left behind. He has not thought of them for years, but he thinks of them now: Tallon, the mother who took him in when his own parents were murdered; and Crusnik, the first mare he fell in love with, impregnated, and abandoned.

He begins to develop feelings for Solange--though, as usual, they are unhealthy. He begins to see her as a replacement for Mest and Crusnik--a second chance, so to speak--rather than as an individual. He begins to push his desires onto her, not in an explicit way, so much as treating her gently, and kindly, as if by doing so and by being a better person, she'd be able to absolve him of his crimes. Having lived in solitude for so long, Solange could easily mistake this for love.

  • The storm has passed, and any threat over their life is gone. There is nothing forcing their relationship now, but they choose to maintain it. Lazarus used to groom Mest's hair, and he would be happy to groom hers as well, whenever it got dirty. They grow even closer. After some time, they choose to have children.

Both perceive it as a new hope: while Solange might see it as an opportunity to raise a family away from the horrors both she and Lazarus experienced as children, Lazarus sees it as a way to truly become a father.

Despite his intentions, however, his frustrations grow. As more time passes, it becomes undeniable that Solange is not the person he wishes her to be (Mest, Crusnik) + is unable to give him what he so desperately wants (forgiveness. Since he never truly told her about the wrongs he'd done--and can barely recognize what those "wrongs" are, save for the fact that it resulted in others disliking him--there's no way she'd be able to understand/accept/forgive). While he is able to respond positively to the children, he finds it's more because of what they can do for him than what he can do for them. That is to say, he feels no pleasure in their happiness or well-being, so much as the fact that he is pleased when others perceive him to be a good father. As before, he acts to fulfill his own will (just that in this case, it's a more conscious and controlled choice) than to help others.

  • Inevitably, their relationship ends. Solange recognized the type of person he was becoming (the type of person he was all along) and asks him to leave.

Quote:
Solange would fight to keep the foals and raise them herself. It would also give her reason to move back to her herd finally and try and reattach herself with the wider world. But then allow the adult foals to move away should they wish to to find their father etc once they've grown.

Notes on how Lazarus would respond:
  • Lazarus would go against Solange's request and try to stay, claiming he has a right to do so as he looked after, and was a father to, their children. He would try to manipulate Solange into forgiving him, but ultimately fails. Ashamed, he would leave willingly.
  • He might make attempts at kidnapping the foals. However, his attempts would continue to fail, and he'd eventually realize that the benefits are not worth the costs. He had never truly loved the children, only the status that they gave him, and he'd understand that he could obtain that elsewhere.

Currently, his timeline of important characters in his life (parental figures and partners only):
  • Tallon, adopted mother
  • Crusnik, first love
  • Ritual, first attraction since he ran away from home, as he saw Crusnik in her
  • Nellene, second mother figure; she tried to shape him up accept his kalona heritage more strongly, and although she was ultimately disappointed with him, it set him up to a darker path
  • Mest, second love, though their relationship was one built on lies
  • Solange; had the potential to be a healthy relationship, but Laz is too far gone
  • Kianzio-Uzulu; where Laz has finally given up hope of being "good" as his adopted mother wished and has embraced the truth about what he really is (or believes himself to be). Canonically they have a few litters together before he sets off, although they maintain an on-and-off relationship

Currently, his relationship with his children (listed in chronological order by parent):
    .... Crusnik
  • Lazarus abandoned his children before they were born.
  • Bass manageed to find Laz as an adult, sometime near the end of Laz's relationship with Solange. Bass was mentally exhausted after the mare he thought he'd spend his life with became cursed into a 'walker and his child grew evil like their mother, despite his best efforts. Laz easily convinced Bass to that he was a good father (he had Solange and the kids, didn't he?) and that he was worthy of forgiveness. After Laz's fallout with Solange, he took Bass with him and continued to manipulate the stallion. Later on, Laz realized that he'd been grooming Bass to take over Mest's place, but his inexperience, coupled with Bass' delicate mental state, caused Bass to grow insane.
  • Rose finds Bass with her father after Bass has begun to show signs of his slipping sanity. She tried to take Bass home but was prevented from doing so. Later, Laz willingly gave Rose custody of Bass, once he no longer found the stallion useful.

    Ritual
  • Lazarus intended to stay with the mother this time around; however, she ends up abandoning him.

    Mest
  • Lazarus raised Anchovy with Mest. Snapper and Sardine had hatched only recently when their home went ablaze, and Lazarus left soon afterward. Lazarus does not know about Wolffish and Jellyfish, who were born in the remnants of the fire and were found by Lux instead of Mest. In addition, he does not know about the additional Wishing Star children granted to Mest.
  • As far as he's aware, Anchovy, Snapper, and Sardine died in the fire. Nothing remains of his family.
  • Future: Lazarus will reunite with Mest, with Mest's new Wishing Star children in tow.

    Solange
  • Lazarus intended to stay with the mother and raise the children; however, she chased him off while they were still foals after discovering his true nature. She takes them to be raised within her herd.
  • The affections he felt for them were largely reliant on the fact that he thought they gave him prestige (that is, that he looked like a good, respectable father). Once he no longer received the benefits, his feelings for them went away. If he saw them in the future, he would be cordial, and perhaps even merciful, but otherwise he does not feel strongly towards them.

    Kianzio-Uzulu
  • Lazarus stayed with the mother while raising the children.
  • This time around, he had accepted that the conventional views of love and family were not for him. He courted Kianzio for power, not passion, and she reciprocated. They had strong children together, and if he saw them in the future, he would welcome them openly. A few, however, Lazarus groomed to be his loyal weapons and protectors, and these he intends to take with him.
  • Azrael is his first. Bass helped look after him as a child. They worked as partners once Azrael reached adulthood, but Az soon surpassed his half-brother in terms of power and ability. Bass desperately wanted to believe that there was some good in the world, and that his father was worth following. While this hope gave Bass the strength to continue, he could not hide the truth from himself forever. However, he could not come to terms with the fact that not only had his mate and child grown evil, but that his father had, too, and that Bass had aided that process. Thus, Az's rise to power was antithetical to Bass' descent to madness.
  • Azrael was the best subordinate one could have asked for. However, he fell in love with another, and Lazarus, reminded of his time with Mest, let him go. (In addition, Lazarus and Kianzio were still together, so he was not left entirely alone.) At first, Az's relationship with Laz remained largely the same. Az's boyfriend, Val, was heir to a herd, and was often busy training for his future role as alpha. This allowed Az to continue to stay with Laz. However, as his relationship with Val developed and the two became mates, and then had children together, Az had barely any time left to spare for his father. Though Lazarus suffered for the loss, he was proud to know that he was able to raise a son that succeeded where he did not.
  • Future: Azrael has a breeding planned with Thera. Azrael will likely raise it to take his place, so that he can focus on his time with Val and be content knowing he did not abandon his father. Most of Azrael's flings would have taken place before he and Val received their children, as he would not have wished upon the star unless he thought he and Val were sufficiently prepared for fatherhood.

Record and summary of PM discussion with She-Ra of Etheria, regarding Inugami x Raven. Posted with permission.

Quote:
Raven is...aloof. He has spent the better part of his life wandering around the Soquili lands trying to avoid everyone and everything. When he does run into someone he tries not to talk too much. He doesn't care to make any attachments, so when he does meet someone he very rarely bothers to remember their name. This also applies to finding out where he comes from and where he has been. To him there is no reason to remember specific details about whatever forests, meadows, mountains, etc that he has come across. So unless there is something of utter importance, like a plant that is toxic if eaten, he just simply ignores/forgets everything he sees or is told. He may eventually open up to someone or multiple Soquili, but right now he is kind of stuck in a rut and not really willing to do anything different.

Honestly, Raven has been an almost impossible to RP character since I got him. One day I will better figure him out and make him less antisocial, but for now that's where his muse insists upon staying.

Needless to say though, having him and Inu in a fling would definitely stir up his life just a bit. I'm not sure how he would react to becoming a father.

Quote:
I think he and Inu would have an interesting dynamic, considering his aloofness + her strong (and often overpowering) emotions. vwv

// Summary below; anything in quotes are from She-Ra
In their initial meeting, she has recently left the Flock. She has less control over her emotions, but is less judgemental and easier to get along with in general.

  • When Inu first sees Raven, he's doing something impressive. This piques her interest towards him.
"[This] in itself would be impressive, since he leads a boring life where even he doesn't try to do more than necessary ha ha. But who knows, under the right condition he might just do something amazing."
  • She mistakes his being quiet as being ~*~*~*~cool and mysterious~*~*~*~ since she'd be pretty young at the time, which convinces her even more to stay with him. She'd follow him around and jab about whatever--the "I never asked for this but am stuck with her" companion, that can bloom into something more. 8 ) She had always been surrounded by close family--first with her wolf-packish father and siblings, and then the Flock when her mother came for her--so she'd feel quite lonely after she leaves the Flock, though she'd do her best to hide it.
  • Shortly after she joins him, they're attacked by a walker. The two fight it off, but Inu is knocked back and temporarily unable to fight. Raven is left to deal with the walker alone. Although he succeeds in chasing it off, his wings have been torn, rendering him unable to fly. Because he'd received the injuries while Inu was down, she'd feel indebted to him and try to take care of the wounds. She would also have a stronger reason to stay around to protect him until he heals. Once he recovers, he flies off with a brief farewell.
"He would be more than annoyed with Inu staying around to help him while he healed, even if it was fairly necessary, but eventually he would accept his fate. And then depending on how things go he would either see her as a friend or something more, but I feel like he wouldn't understand his feeling towards her if it was a more than friends thing, and that might be what causes him to abruptly leave her. He would want time away to sort out his thoughts, because he knows little of what love is and would want to distance himself from that strange feeling."

Their second meeting takes place after she has adopted her unconventional set of beliefs. She is more subdued, can be perceived in a similar light to religious extremists, believes it is her duty to judge between good and evil, kills those deemed evil and devours their flesh to purge them from the world, and is more serious and guarded than when she was young.

  • Raven meets someone hoity-toity, who takes offense to the fact that Raven does not remember their name at a later meeting.
  • The individual looks similar to Raven, and slanders Raven's name in nearby herds.
  • Inu hears stories about this character, and, believing Raven is the culprit, tries to apprehend him. They get into a short fight before recognizing one another and clearing the misunderstanding. While Raven is at first confused and upset, he runs into other Soq who also accuse him of the same crimes, and not all of them are as willing to believe he is innocent of the act.
  • He looks into the situation and runs into Inugami again, who is also trying to find the source of the complaints.
  • They find the soquili together and are able to put an end to it. Inugami gets injured during the fight. This time, it's Raven who sticks around.
"He probably wouldn't be the best healer in the world, but more of a moral support figure during the mending period."
  • The relationship will be terminated by Inu. She'd be busy with her personal goals and would leave once everything was settled.

"As for how he would feel about her new beliefs, I want to say he would likely be indifferent to them, he's pretty indifferent to the world at the moment so he may remain that way towards her beliefs, but he may be open about them as well. I guess it would all depend on how he feels about her at the time and exactly what they have gone through together and separately over the course of all these plots."
  • If he is indifferent to them, Inugami would have slain and eaten the defamer during their fight.
  • If the act would repulse him, the defamer would escape before Inu could reveal her true colors. However, she would find them again at a later date once the individual starts defaming another unfortunate character. This time, her kill is successful. In addition, it would be after she's already pregnant.

"I can't say for sure which way he would go with raising them, be it by himself, with her or some other option. I feel like that would depend on what their previous rp's/plots have put them through. He might come to accept her presence enough to want to raise them together, or maybe he will decide that only one of them is suitable for the task. He was raised by his mother, after his father abandoned him for not having enough Kalona blood, so I'm not sure if he will feel that he has no right/desire to raise his children or that could give him the reason to raise them with Inu, wanting his children to have a father figure in their life."

// Should discuss:
  • What their feelings for one another are when they have the children.
  • Who raises them.
  • What their upbringing will be like.

Currently, her timeline with relationships:
  • Inugami had a few relationships while in the Flock, and was particularly fond of Iris-Raven (Frezir); however, they were little more than childhood crushes.
  • H'ren (Kyrieko) sires her first set of children, though she leaves the baskets with his mother.
  • Zephaniah (mindsend) sires the second. As she never reunited with the father, she left these in the care of the Flock.
  • Raven (She-Ra of Etheria) sires the third. This is her first breeding where she's converted to her new, cannibalistic beliefs. This is also the first breeding where she chooses to raise the children, and she encourages them to find their own paths.
  • Her breeding with Zenoskelis (Roniel) results in stolen baskets, with only one left in her care. Protective and possessive, she chooses to raise this child to follow in her footsteps.
  • Her breeding with the purewalker Dalain Jochi (hanging gallow) will either result in abandonment or enlistment. If she feels they will grow up evil like their father, she will try to kill them and fail for reasons outside her control (abandonment). On the other hand, if she feels they are good, she will believe they are stronger for having been touched by pure blood but coming out unaffected. She will take it as a sign that they were blessed, and rally them to her cause (enlistment).

Record of PM discussion with Ovarian Paint, regarding Salathiel x Lucius. Posted with permission.

Salathiel's a part of Smaug's herd so considers dragons/draconics superior; like the breed, he's also super proud and covetous. <_<; I could see him taking an interest in Luci, perhaps try to capture him, and later they can part ways--either amicably or Luci loses his favor?

Quote:
Thanks! I love him...oh and he sometimes talks to his tail, or the little flying clock that is constantly with him. Hes a nutter, but a fun nutter xD

Lucius enjoys causing a bit of trouble, cat and mouse is his favorite game, specially if the "mouse" is unaware that there is a game at foot. xDD

Quote:
Thoughts about them meeting, and finding one another interesting? They could play a game with one another, with the belief that both are the gamemasters and not realizing that the other has their own plans. It can spiral out from there, and can either terminate at Salathiel's pregnancy, or continue a bit longer if Luci has plans to take any of the children?

Quote:
I could see Lucius taking one of the baskets with him, depending on how many they have. He'd be like "Bro is mad, lets take you with us..yes yes, coming with us you are." I could see Lucius taking interesting in Salathiel, the whole dragon aspect, the superior being. Lucius would want to see what makes Salathiel believe this, could make a game out of it.

Quote:
I love the plot! I think it would really help to take him down a peg or two as well. However, the theft would likely result in his family trying to find them probably (especially considering one of their adults--Thiel's Uncle, I believe--had been abducted a little earlier) and that's drama I'd prefer to avoid, haha.

Would it be okay if it leads to an extended chase, and in the end they catch each other, acknowledge one another (either as equals or just as a begrudging "yeah, that dude's okay"), and agree on custody terms (with Luci keeping x babies, and Salathiel keeping the others)?

Quote:
I think getting caught with the basket, Lucius would be amused that someone actually caught him and he would have to agree to Salathiel being at least on a similar level as himself and agree to custody terms, even alotting that he'd bring the foal back around to learn proud dragon ways since they seemed to do such impressive good.

Quote:
Ohhh I think Thiel would like that very much!! ;w; And me likewise; thank you for the plot!

Record and summary of PM discussion with -Diamond-Elephant-, regarding Sardine x Masque. Posted with permission.

/// indicates an unconfirmed detail

--- THE BEGINNING ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Quote:
User Image

One-time fling; potentially LM (mono or poly) if you don't mind that she has two flings planned.

Blurb: Sardine was taken captive as a foal by the mare who killed her entire family, save for her and her brother. She managed to escape, but the experience left her cold and bitter, and she wields a sharp tongue for anyone who crosses her path. The only exception is her brother, Snapper, a mute stallion who holds onto her tail like a safety blanket. Her tail is broken in several places as a result.

She can be incredibly pessimistic, distrustful, and jealous; at the same time, she is easily charmed due to her lack of social experience. The other party may find reason to stay if they feel they are helping her learn of all the good in the world (assuming her violent tendencies can be held in check long enough).

History:
  • Tortured as a foal which left her violent towards outsiders.
  • However, she has taken care of her brother since their escape, so there is a softness beneath... it is just very very hard to get to. <_<;
  • Her brother eventually finds love, and this leaves her feeling alone and abandoned. At such a time in her life, it could easily lead her to become even more angry, or (more likely) eager to meet others in a twisted form of revenge to make her brother feel as bad as she did. Eventually she'd realize the error of her ways.
  • Also potential plots with Yuki's Lux, since it is unlikely the mare will let them stay free without a fight.

Her breeding would be in the "time to get revenge" phase (that is, she seeks the companionship of others to try to hurt her brother's feelings), where she doesn't realize the consequences of her actions haha. 8( She knows knew how to take care of her brother, but not children. If she treated them the same as she did him (who was traumatized alongside her, and needed a lot of care), she'd likely stifle them into leaving her.

Quote:
Personality wise Masque naturally has quite the imposing and intimidating presence, largely perhaps in part due to their skeletal features. Due to this Masque tries to come off as least threatening as possible, and tries to be pleasant to all that they meet. This does not always work however, generally one look at them is enough to frighten others off, or make them feel threatened. However, Masque is also quite a soft spoken individual, but the type of soft spoken that somehow manages to draw your utmost attention to listen to whenever they speak. While wary about offering their help to others (largely due to the fact most flee at the sight of them), Masque tries to lend a helping claw to those that need it, should they wish their help.

Maybe either a one time fling (but they become good friends/stay good friends), or a poly relationship could work? Tbh I'm not sure, I feel like Masque could go various ways and I'm super open to suggestions and ideas. What are your thoughts? :'>

Quote:
They sound like such a sweetie! Luckily (or not XD) for them, Sardine's seen her fair share of skulls, and her inexperience with social etiquette means she won't perceive them as something that she be feared and fled from. She would be intrigued by their manner, too; she's met a handful of sorts, from intimidating to kind, but never really someone that was soothing. And I think that's actually what would frighten her the most.

She spent her entire life defending and looking after her baby brother; it's why his finding another hurt her so much, because she used to spend every waking hour on him, and now what is she supposed to do with all this time on her hands? Who else is she supposed to take care of when there's no one else she loves -- least of all herself? After all, she was the big sister, the one who let her family die, the one who let her brother be so brutalized he lost his voice. Watching over him was a means of atonement, and if he sought solace from another, then what good what she?

Most mistook her violence for maturity, too, like "welp you can clearly defend yourself, you don't need me to help you out," so treated her as being emotionally stable -- until they grew upset at her easily-riled aggression, at least. They never really took the time to be comforting, and understandably so; the unfortunate reality of the situation is that her anger is a defense mechanism, and everything's out to get her aka needs to be defended against. To many, her outbursts are perceived as random but constant, and difficult to deal with, and she doesn't make it any easier by blaming and attacking them, haha. <_<;

I think at the end of the day, dealing with each other would be an incredibly trying experience for them both, but that it can be incredibly rewarding, too, if they can see it through? Sardine could learn to stop being overly defensive and control her actions (as opposed to relying on her trapped-animal instincts), and Masque could expand the breath and depth of their own pool of patience while helping another?

I realize her personality is demanding, though, and wouldn't be offended if you felt Masque wouldn't be a good fit! If you'd like to try 'em out, though, plot ideas:

  • As an IC note, Sardine calls herself Selene. // Update (not included in original PM, but here for reference): Sardine never learned to fly. She had no one to teach her as a foal; now, the muscles are too weak to sustain her.
  • Drama between Sardine and Masque. Perhaps they lose their patience with her and leave, but realize they are treating her the same as they have been treated (looking only at the "surface" of her personality and reacting based on that) and return? (I realize this, and other plots that may involve a certain response with Masque, is based only on the few messages I've read regarding them. If any of 'em are inaccurate, please let me know!)
  • Sardine asks Masque why they are wearing a skull over their face. Silence.
  • Masque asks Sardine why she is wearing a skull on her thigh. More silence.
  • Eventually she reveals that from what she remembered of her father, he wore skulls and bones all over. The skulls helps her feel closer to him. She later tells them that her real name is Sardine, but she doesn't like others using it because it reminds her of her lost family (all of them had silly fish-related names). They can call her Sardine, though. I GUESS.
  • Fun times where Masque is acting soothing and Sardine thinks she might actually feel safe in their presence. JK THIS IS A NEW FEELING AND SHE IS ON THE ALERT, she gets mad at them and the day ends on a sour note.
  • However, repeat experiences eventually convinces her that it is a Legitimate Thing and Masque won't suddenly turn on her and hurt her.
  • New things to try! Celebrations (holidays, birthdays; she doesn't know when she was born and doesn't want to think about it and her dead parents, bye!!), cooking (omg u mean it's possible to not have bland food.... only with things that don't require fire; see below), simply talking with one another (she and her brother were pretty much joined at the hip so all of their experiences were shared; in any case, it was just her doing the talking LOL).
  • Fire, during which Sardine loses it. Later admits she lost her fam to a fire.
  • Friend??? Friend. She introduces Masque to her bro.
  • Possibly plotting with Yuki and Lux? THO OFC these plots hinge on Yuki's yea or nay.
  • Love?????????????????

Re: fling vs. poly, I think either would work! With a fling, it'd teach her that you can still love someone without being with them (aka her and her brother); with a poly, she would have learned a lot from them and I don't think her feelings for that would ever go away. In either case, I think she would love them forever, romantic or no.

Quote:
Thank you! Tbh Masque is more or less a big teddy bear let's be honest. Fhffh oh bless, that'll be super interesting though. Masque will find it surprising, but a welcome change from what they're used to. It'll be nice to not have someone be afraid of them from the get go, and hey maybe they can actually have a civil conversation how wonderful. I think their first meeting will be an experience for the both of them. Her personality and the fact she doesn't flinch from the way they look will be intriguing to Masque, probably will make them want to stick around talk (at least for a little while).

Reading all of that be still my heart she sounds like an utter delight and her story and her personality just. Just. Aaah my heart. ;v; Masque on the other hand is generally always walking on eggshells, always putting on this cool/calm/controlled exterior to appear as nonthreatening as possible. Rarely do they ever let their anger or pain or whether they're upset show, forever internalizing these emotions out of fear that they might frighten everyone away and they'll be alone 5ever. Unfortunately to many this front can make Masque appear almost unfeeling at times, which also doesn't help when you have a skull face incapable of showing emotion.

I agree completely. I think, while potentially quite trying, I do think their relationship would be rewarding. I honestly think they could even bring a balance to each other? Which would be quite nice. I think Sardine could teach Masque that it's okay to show their emotions, that you don't always have to worry what others think. And, as you said, Masque could help Sardine with learning to stop being overly defensive and control her actions.

I would actually definitely love to try them out, if you would? So much so that I will now not so casually change my offer from a fling to a potential LM?

  • Awbless, that's a lovely name. I love that and whoops that just gave me the cutest name for a kid: Soleil ''Sunfish''.
  • I actually love this plot idea. Masque finally outwardly shows a 'negative' emotion, maybe they shout at her before going off to brood? And then they come to the realization that they're treating her as others have treated them, so they return and apologize and it's totally okay if she doesn't want to speak to them again they understand completely.
  • Fhfhfhf wonderful. 'This is my face I was born this way baby.'
  • ;v; Aah. With this new information that Sardine shares with Masque, they decide to share some information too. That Masque is from a herd of mutants very much like themselves, with skulls of bone adorned with ornate masks. Masque speaks of their mother and that it was warm and welcoming herd, of how they were separated quite some time ago and that Masque has been alone ever since. Masque thinks Sardine is a lovely name and would be happy to call her such should she wish it.
  • omf. WHAT IS THIS FEELING SO SUDDEN AND NEW?? Masque thinks they're making progress but lol whoops they both end up in a huff with each other.
  • Masque tries to reassure her that they won't and would never hurt her, but is secretly worried that they might frighten Sardine off.
  • Omg that all sounds so wonderful. ;v; Mask makes her a gift, a trinket perhaps or a mask of her own.
  • Masque tries to comfort her but isn't entirely sure how to? Send help?? But they mention how they are there for her should she need it.
  • Oh hey fam bam. Masque recedes into them self a little, trying to make a good impression upon Sardine's family, trying not to frighten them.
  • Yasss tho. Wonderful angst plot oh good. Masque tries their best to convince her that it is not her fault they were hurt, because it wasn't.
  • caN YOU FEEL THE LOVE TONIIIIIGHT.

Ahem yes. As mentioned above I'ma up my offer to potential LM. :'v; Because I am utterly enchanted with Sardine and the potential relationship she and Masque could haave. I definitely think Masque would forever have love in their heart for Sardine, whatever happens. No doubt about it.

Quote:
Re: must hide emotions or I'll scare ppl away // Sardine will just be like; -laughs- I did the opposite, and showed too much. But I still met you, and that should count for something, right? RIGHT. . .. NERVOUS STOMPING AND WALKS AWAY what are healthy ways 2 deal with emotions

Re: skull face incapable of showing emotion // Ouuu Sardine is totally down for helping with this! Since her brother was mute, she learned early on to watch him carefully when he tried to communicate with her, and can be perceptive when it comes to body language. She mainly used this to check for tension from others. . . and then she escalated that tension because clearly the only way to control potential bodily harm is TO BE THE ONE TO STRIKE THE FIRST BLOW and make sure [the enemy] can never hurt you. Her being sensitive to this can help them open up? Like "she can already sense when I'm upset about it anyway, might as well be candid about it" ?? It can result in a rough patch ( "she can tell so easily when I'm upset but NOT when I'm being honest and to be frank it's frustrating" / "she is upset when i dont say anything and upset when i do. is it even worth the trouble trying to open up?" / etc. whatever applies) that smooths out in the end ( "oh hey she is actually super sensitive towards potential conflict and could probably deter tense parties early on . . . if she stopped fighting them . . . ... .. " and Sardine herself would try and learn to trust Masque and eventually be more comfortable around them, since it's harder to deceive with body actions than with words and faces ).

- LM ACCEPTED. /SLAMS DOWN JUDICIAL HAMMER
(Rest of things below are to plots I had comments on! If no comment, assume I am MIGHTILY PLEASED and don't have anything to add at this point!)
- SUNFISH IS THE CUTEST NAME (and warning in advance, there are also a lot of of inappropriate fish names out there; I laugh and wonder who were the scientists in charge of it .. . . .) they can have a sibling named mola mola. "We named you guys because you're the sun in our lives. 8D Here's a pic of the fish you were named after: [image of the ugliest fish imaginable]" (JK WE ALL KNOW PARROT BEAKS ARE THE FREAKIEST FISH OUT THERE; IS IT POSSIBLE TO HAVE ANY MORE SOULLESS EYES AND A PERVERTSTACHE :C MOTHER NATURE WHY)
- Ahh Sardine would be so sad to hear of their family. ): Hers is dead (or so she believes) and she can never meet them again, but at least there is a certainty there. It must be awful to know your loved ones are out there, but the land is so vast, and lonely; is it even possible to reunite? (slowly she learns empathy)
- scREAMS at them making her a mask. I think she would really come to enjoy making things with her hands; creating when once all she did was destroy. ;v;

And I will be talking with Yuki on the morrow to see her opinion on the plots! :DDD

Quote:
THANK YOU. ;v;

Ohfhfhfh. Meanwhile as she stomps away Masque is just sort of blushing or AT LEAST THEY WOULD BE IF THEY COULD BLUSH. Imagine lots of bashful head ducking and thoughtful clawing at the ground. Gawsh she considers us meeting a good thing be still my heart. Healthy ways to deal with emotion? We just don't knoww.

Omg escalated the tension.. Well then. Though due to the way her life has been it's understandable she'd prefer to strike first and have things on her terms rather than be the one to get hurt initially. That's really nice though? That she'll be able to tell how Masque is feeling through their body language, when body language and tone of voice is pretty much all Masque has. 'you're upset.' 'no I'm not.' 'I can see it, you're shaking.' 'it's chilly.' 'it's rly warm out actually.'. Mm I can definitely see this helping with Masque to open up. And hopefully through their body language and words, Sardine will see that Masque truly means well and cares for her and has no intention what-so-ever in hurting her.

YAS. /tosses confetti. Let it beee.

  • WHY THANK YOU. There are many a cute fish name. (And super inappropriate like you said. Fhffh evidently the scientists had a sense of humor, I mean if you get to name something might as well go big or go home.) Omf Mola Mola. We name u these things because we love u. (scrEAMS. That is indeed incredibly creepy ohmygoodness. sdgdfhfghthepervertstache i can't. h elp. Omg have you seen the deep sea fish that looks like a black plastic bag with sharp teeth? MOTHER NATURE IS A CRUEL MISTRESS)
  • ;v; They talk and bond more over family and then eventually BECOME LIKE FAMILY aaay. (p.s. I'm deeply considering customing some of Masque's fam. All the skull-faced masquerade soqs.)
  • Awhh awhh bless. That's just so sweet. Masque will enjoy creating things with her, it's not something he's ever done with anyone outside their herd. So the fact they'll be able to do it again with someone they care about is just wonderful.

Awesome! I look forward to seeing what she says. ovo Since Sardine will have two breedings used, are you cool with me potentially flinging two of Masque's breedings?

Quote:
YES, YES, AND YES PLEASE; THESE PLOTS ARE SO CUTE, TOO PRECIOUS FOR THIS WORLD. Q___Q ♥♥♥

(Here is a pic of their baby sunfish as well. On one hand I am incredibly creeped out; on the other, it's basically a circle with an eyeball and that is. . . .. really cute .. . . . . Also that scale is in the millimeters; the ocean is so hardcore

I am unsure on the deep sea one unless it looks like a floaty hook with a bag trailing after but in reality it's a MOUTH and it has a MOUTH INSIDE A MOUTH. opens mouth to scream but no sound comes out)

- Urghh it'd be so cool if you did; the Masque family can grow and then meet Sardine's growing family too. 83 idk if the separated family will reunite and if so, how, but it's A POSSIBILITY
- Yuki's reply: YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
- We have plotted that if Sardine does anything bad then Masque will be the one that's punished, reinforcing her "it's my fault" views. 8)
- Flings: YEAH I LOVE FLINGS PLEASE GO FOR IT. If you want, more drama ideas are to have Lux coerce Masque into flinging, so she can tell Sardine they cheated on her. Yuki offered her Conqueror, Lux's daughter, BUT OFC no obligation to go with this plot or the offer if you're not a fan!

Quote:
;v; These two are going to be adorable but I can feel it I CAN FEEL THEY'RE GOING TO HURT MY HEART TOO. Bring it on.

(ikr? Their colours look so nice together.) scr eeches. What a beautiful bab 8');. That. That is indeed an interesting fish oh my goodness you would not want to suddenly come face to face with that tbh.

Basically too much mouth it doesn't need all of that mouth mother nature u need to chill.

- Awhh awhh that would be lovely though? A possibility indeed, we shall see how things go~
- Ohfhfhfhffh I'm glad she's down with it. x'D
- :'c Oh dang poor babs. They are not going to have a good time with it if Lux has anything to say about it. Yesgood. :}
- That's an interesting plot idea :'v. Conqueror is gorgeous tho like whoa. Those glowy purple eyes. I'll give it a talk over with Yuki and then get back to your fine self.

So many wonderful plots I am excited!

--- THE DECEIT ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Quote:
After all their experiences, they've mutually grown fond of each other. Sardine hasn't felt this way about anybody, so for the longest time she just ignores it (and offhandedly mentions to Masque that she has been having "strange belly troubles?? maybe we shouldn't eat those weird fish anymore" LMAO. idk what masque eats tho). Masque could confess to her, which makes her realize she feels the same way? But ofc she shies the hell away from declaring meaningful connection, despite the fact that it's what she's been wanting all along. vmv (Her bad history with children won't help haha.)

Strange belly troubles I'm laughinefgfg. Bless Sardine, bless u. But yes and yes and yes to all of this. It all sounds wonderful and I am very much down for this to be the way the plot goes. c':

// SUMMARY

Sardine, overwhelmed by their confession, runs away. She slinks back to them later without referencing the event at all. Masque is hesitant about broaching the subject in case it causes her to leave again, and it is quietly understood that they can be friends, but nothing more.

Later, Lux finds Snapper and Sardine. Her children are with her, one of them being Conqueror.

Lux wants them back in her clutches. Of course, the siblings are against this. But while Sardine at first refuses, she feels she has little choice in the matter once Lux begins to threaten to hurt Masque instead.

In addition, Conq is a manipulative mare. She convinces Masque that she's a good person, and is an unwitting participant in Lux's heinous schemes. She gets Masque to fall in love with her, all the while lowkey taunting Sardine to try and rile the mare.

The betrayal Sardine feels at Masque and Conqueror's blooming relationship will push her closer to Lux. She is grateful for Lux's more violent missions, as it gives her an outlet to vent her anger. At the height of this, Lux tells Sardine to kill Harbinger, Snapper's mate.

Sardine goes to Snapper, trying to convince her brother that Harbinger would ultimately betray him, like Masque did to her. Snapper refuses to believe it, and she cannot bring herself to hurt Snapper by taking Harbinger away from him. In the end, Sardine goes back to Lux, asking her to cancel the mission. Lux agrees, on the condition that Sardine will owe her a favor in the future, no questions asked. (Lux approaches Harbinger and makes the same deal in exchange for leaving Snapper alone. Neither Sardine nor Harbinger are aware of the other's involvement.)

Harbinger ultimately completes his debt. However, Lux would never have been satisfied truly leaving them alone. She goes to collect her favor from Sardine, and tells the mare to kill Snapper and Harbinger's child. Sardine must make them believe that she did it out of jealousy (that Harbinger took Snapper from her), and must not let them know that it was Lux who ordered it. Sardine tries to get Lux to change her mind, but Lux is adamant this time. Either the child goes, or Snapper does. In the end, Sardine obeys. /// Confirmed with Yuki, but need to confirm with Harbinger's owner, Blind. If Blind isn't fond of the idea, then it can be something close to Snapper but unrelated to Harbinger.

However, the hate Snapper feels for her is something she cannot bear. Lux realizes this, and draws Sardine to her again. She tells the mare she'll let her tell them it was she who ordered it (which would also make Harbinger aware that Lux had received favors from them both) in exchange for yet another future favor. Sardine agrees, and rushes to tell Snapper. However, the forgiveness she'd hoped for never comes.

Shortly afterward, one of Lux's enemies gathers an army and raids the herd. By then, Sardine realizes how dangerous it is to stay with the mare; in addition, Conqueror had gotten pregnant and revealed her true nature to Masque. The two reunite and leave Lux's herd behind in the chaos.

--- WHAT COMES AFTER ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Quote:
Mother nature: can't stop won't stop [pic of fish with transparent head so u can see its freakyass eyeballs that are forever staring towards the surface]

SARDINE WILL BE SO UPSET AT THE PREGNANCY and when masque tries to explain she'll just turn her head up at them. CUE DRAMS AND THE EVENTUAL TALKING IT OUT she is upset that they hurt her, but even more she's mad that she let herself trust again when clEARLY THAT'S LIKE THE #1 STUPID THING TO DO IN LIFE. more talking. sardine is really confused; she is used to having clear cut Bad Guys, how does she come to terms with the fact that Masque was believed they were doing good but still ended up hurting her? ): (and that if Sardine was in that position, she would have done the same)

More lessons where sometimes u are just put in a bad situation and it's not your fault. She killed Snapper's child, and although she'll never be able to take that back, she remembers that at the time she was doing what she thought best. Wasn't Masque in the same position? And couldn't she find it in herself to forgive them? Especially since the trait that put them in that position in the first place, their goodness, was the same trait that helped her so much when she needed it most. Maybe she even feels regret for Conqueror a little, because the mare threw away the opportunity to be with Masque, like she almost did (when she was busy blaming Masque for everything, bye), and Sardine grows a little more as a person?

Quote:
screaming why any of this. Although to be fair we also have hella cute fish like the fish that fight by kissing.

IT WILL! Glorious and deliciously painful. Poor Sardine and Masque. Aaah Sardine though. ;v; My heart is going to hurt so much. Masque will feel incredibly awful and try their best to explain to her, though they know they likely should have known better and shouldn't have trusted Conqueror and let it got so far. Masque knows they can't make it right but will want to try meanwhile feeling even more vulnerable than they had before. Who can they trust? Are they destined to be used or treated badly? To hurt those they care for? Should they just leave? Would that make Sardine feel better? They only want what's best for her.

Hopefully it'll be an experience that the two will learn from and eventually cause them to grow closer together. ;v; Ultimately Masque is also at fault for trusting Conqueror so easily and should have rejected her advances. However being in that situation and vulnerable it is understandable why Masque eventually did succumbed to her advances. They hoped maybe -some- good could come of this situation. Evidently they were quite wrong. :'v; But they understand completely why Sardine is upset and hurt, they would be too in her place. Mm I think this will make the pair of them grow as people, once all is said and done and they talk about things.

I feel so much for Sardine though, someone she cares about having -children- with the daughter of her and her brother's tormentor.

Quote:
oh my god, it's my first time hearing about that fish. THEY'RE SO CUTE THEY'RE EVEN PINK, JESUS TAKE THE WHEEL!!

And ooohh m m yy y y gosh, if Masque says that Sardine will just be like "YES PLS LEAVE ME SO I CAN RETURN TO MY BATCAVE WHEN THINGS WERE BETTER" and then she realizes that, no, 1. it's not better at all, it's lonely and monotonous, and 2. grows a new appreciation for how Masque helped her become a better person. And that everyone makes mistakes, but working through it -- learning and forgiving -- is a much better alternative than condemning someone forever? And she knows she's made a lot of mistakes towards Masque in the past, as well. Her frustration during her time with Lux will allow the mare to easily manipulate her to do wrong things as well (including trying to kill her bro's bf /cough), so I imagine there will need to be forgiveness on both ends.

And right? ;w; HMM complex feels on the children as well. I know the first batch she has, she'll watch over them as she did with Snapper, but tbh she is not a very good mother (esp. when her teachings include "DON'T TRUST ANYONE" and "/kicks her child's friend's parent in the face because she perceived them as a threat" v___v;; ; ; ) and would be stifling and overprotective -- and likely foster dependence from 'em, out of her fear that they'll leave her, too -- so I imagine they would not grow up to like her very much. ): and then have their own issues to deal with once they leave her; sorry, children....

The second one she will probably grow too stressed about, like at this point she's just expecting everyone to leave her (as Snapper, her previous children, and her breeding partners did -- though to be fair to the fathers, she did not give any indication that she wanted them to stay, and on the contrary probably encouraged them to leave <_<). So she ends up being an even worse parent, and the children's grandfather finds them and (rightfully) deems it in the children's best interest to take them from her. (Could lead to more plots in the future if Sardine / Masque decide to visit them, so Sardine could make up for her past wrongs.)

So to her, seeing Masque and Conqueror having children would be a huge blow to her (since in her mind, Masque is good person sO CLEARLY THEIR CHILDREN WILL BE PERFECT AS WELL and not end up a mess like hers did v_v). And then they're prevented from seeing their own children, and will have the realization that they'll be raised evil by the very family that hurt them + "killed" Sardine's family, and it's like... how do you even deal with that. ): They could try and take the children back but Lux has so many on her side compared to just Masque and Sardine?? urghh (Ahh Masque would probably be struggling with this issue on their own, too, until Sardine comes back. Q__Q) And they try to get allies and rescue the children together, but their combined efforts result in failure and they simply have to deal with the fact that they can't do anything about Conqueror's children and that their getting hurt/captured/etc. won't help anyone, either? ):

[Due to Sardine's experiences with Lux, which resulted in her being forced to turn her brother against her, she knows why Masque "betrayed" her by being with Conquest. She can understand that they were both doing what they thought was best, even though in the end it turned out to be an AWFUL DECISION. But while Sardine can empathize with Masque's choice, she herself was never forgiven, and can believe that Masque isn't worthy of forgiveness either, before later changing her mind and finding value in redemption and absolution.]

But after all their dramas with Lux and Conqueror, Sardine is the one who confesses? qvq

Quote:
I knowww they're adorable and just imagining them being like 'Pucker up and fight me??' kills me every time.

Aaaah ;v; oh noo. And then Masque just leaves because that's what she wants cue sad romance movie music and walking away in the rain. Omf batcave. Then eventually they'll come back together and talk things through and apologize and hopefully learn from the experience. Or at least one hopes.

Should she wish it, in the case of any of her children Masque would try and help as much as they could. By this point they'd both would have had kids, but different experiences with them, and thus different approaches to them. (Yes! That'd be interesting, and Masque would perhaps end up taking her to meet their children with Jasmine. Should Sardine want to/be cool with that, that is. Since Sardine would be very much part of Masque's family at that point, so they'd want her to perhaps become closer to their children.)

Masque will probably be a mess by this point. Unable to be with their children, to get them back and away from the clutches of Conqueror and Lux. Whilst on their own Masque will make a number of failed attempts at getting their children, putting them further in a darker place. Until they reunite with Sardine, which will begin to lift Masque's spirits. They'll be thankful for Sardine's help, knowing the risk she's likely taking, as well as for the help of anyone else. Even though they ultimately fail, Masque will still be grateful. And will also have to come to terms that they'll likely never see their children again.

And when Sardine confesses Masque is just, dumbstruck and in somewhat disbelief with their stomach all a flutter. I'm sorry can you repeat that I think I may have misheard?? Then cue nuzzles from Masque's bony nose and confessions of their feelings once more. They will be a very happy camper lemme tell you.

Quote:
jdalsjd imagine Sardine and Masque are still in the same area tho (whilst she's in her BATCAVE phase) and Sardine gets a little sick during the time they're separated. Her nose is running (idk how horse anatomy works, but just work with me here lmfao), eyes all red and groggy, and she sees them and is like . . . "I need to show them im fine on my own. FINE." she tried so hard to act healthy she ends up looking crazy. "WOW WHAT A VERY NICE CLOUD IM HAVING SO MUCH FUN" peeks out of the corner of her eye @ masque (sorry sardine regresses back to her initial emotional maturity at this stage) "IT SURE IS GREAT BEING HERE" masque is sad for the both of them.

am i awful??? im awful

And them visiting each other's children would be great! ;0; Sardine would be hesitant at first since she's lost all the family she's ever had but she would be so touched by Masque meeting her own. Q_Q And ahhh!! comes to learn that family is someone you can rely on to be there for u (instead of relying on them to leave lmfao).

kjdlkjalsjd the rest of the plots sound very sweet too. ;w; Ahh after they get together officially, I could see her just being like "i love you, i love you!" basically really excited, and saying it all the time. 8) small bump in the road where she (or them both) are like OH s**t if I say "ilu" any less does that mean they will perceive me as not liking them?? then finally realize that none of the couples they see say it all the time, they can show they care in via actions and other gestures, like they used to before LOL. IT'S NOT THE END OF THE WORLD IF U DONT SAY "ILU" AT LEAST 40 TIMES A DAY.

--- BACK TO THE BEGINNING ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Quote:
Sardine and Masque have been leaving in peace for some time, but it isn't meant to last. Lux returns, and intends to cash in on her debt with Sardine.

Lux's group has been having conflict with Ursula/Vlad's group, and Lux asks Sardine to go in as a spy to get her some leverage. Sardine agrees and leaves without telling Masque anything, hoping to take care of it quickly before they have time to worry. However, Lux hadn't told or prepared Sardine in any way for what she could expect from the U/V herd, and when she gets there, she's immediately taken prisoner and put into the Pit.

The Pit is, according to Yuki, "a prison made from an underground cave system with spike traps and pitfalls awaiting those that try to escape. There are wardens that guard parts of the pit as well."

Sardine was forced to revert back to her former guarded and aggressive personality to be able to survive. At first, it wasn't too bad--she befriends Fiona (Yuki) and Mimsy (Ryuu) so is able to maintain a flimsy hold onto her newfound values and desire to be good. Life is hard there, though; although edible mushrooms are abundant, and there's some number of insects, they're forced to get most of their sustenance by eating the other prisoners. But by working diligently together, they are able to escape within a matter of months. Sardine, once used to such a harsh life, came out of it worse for wear but not broken. Mimsy, however, went even more insane to cope, while Fiona was barely anything but skin and bones.

As their right as victors, they could choose to obtain freedom if they wished, with the caveat that they will be killed on sight if the herd sees them in the future. However, Ursula, looking at Sardine, noted it was rare for a female to come out of the Pit in such good shape. Thus, Ursula gives Fiona and Mimsy permission to leave, but says that Sardine has to stay. Sardine concedes; despite her trials, Lux had specifically catered in others the belief that she would hold onto her word (how could she make deals with her victims otherwise?) and Sardine, who had been raised by her, is no exception. This is why she so strongly feels that Lux will leave her and her loved ones alone if she succeeds in spying on the herd, and doesn't want her effort in the Pit to be wasted by leaving then and there. For the sake of her happy future with Masque -- one where they don't have to constantly look over their shoulder -- she continues to try and fulfill her mission.

However, Ursula, with her hyper-aggressive tendencies, is not someone she thinks she can impress unless she's willing to be overly violent herself. She's not, while she has any choice in the matter. She turns her attention to Vlad instead, and tries to prove she's worthy of being trusted with sensitive information. However, Vlad's only intent is to breed with her, at his mate's encouragement. Unaware that it was Ursula's idea, and believing Vlad was genuinely taken by her, she accepts him as a partner.

However, Ursula had not expected Sardine to grow so close to him and, mistaking Sardine's keen interest for romantic affection, condemns her to be imprisoned once more. In the same breath, she mentions offhandedly that she "wish[es] we could've done this to Lux, but she's dead."

Thus, the moment Sardine realizes she's free from Lux's hold and no longer has to stay with the herd, is the same moment she's forced back into the Pit.

She grows depressed, but cannot dwell on it. She has a reputation now, as one of the few who'd managed to escape. Other prisoners challenge her, hoping that by besting her, they would be able to obtain the necessary skills to escape themselves. To help her keep up with the battles, she falls prey to Shroom's wares (NPC, Yuki), and takes addictive strength-enhancing mushrooms to help her survive and stay on top of the constant battles. In return, she gives Shroom the goods she loots off of the losers' bodies.

She knows a large part of why she was able to escape the first time was because of her friends, so she tries to branch out in her free time. It's hard to find the characters she's looking for, however: most are too weak, or too likely to turn on her, and she can't afford to be anything but pragmatic. But she manages to run into a prospective stallion named Uzor (NPC, Yuki), and they befriend one another.

Quote:
Little did Sardine know, her ties with Uzor started long ago. Uzor and Mest (Yuki), Sardine's father, were part of a herd together. The two fell in love, despite the fact that Uzor was betrothed to another. Before anything could come of it, however, a skinwalker decimated their herd. Mest survived, but was left with amnesia. Lazarus (Ryuu), finding him in this state, takes advantage of the stallion's state of mind to convince him that they were lovers, thus earning himself a loyal bedding partner and protector.

The two travel together, during which Lazarus genuinely falls for the stallion. However, Mest ultimately learns of the manipulation and recalls memory of his true love, Uzor. They break apart, and Mest goes off in search of Uzor.

Mest runs into Jellyfish (Yuki) instead. Jellyfish, a daughter of Mest and Lazarus, had been taken by Lux as a basket and raised to be a violent member of the herd. However, she broke away and ended up with the Dark Brotherhood, a herd of assassins with spies in every shadow. There, she is able to learn the identity of her true parents, as well as her siblings. In addition, she learns of Uzor's captivity in the Pit.

With Jellyfish's help, Mest raises an army to rescue his beloved. By the time Sardine has befriended Uzor, Mest has prepared himself, and is marching his army towards U/V's herd.

Some time later, Sardine begins to notice she's pregnant. She stops taking the strength-enhancing mushrooms immediately, but the withdrawals render her physically inept. It is at that moment that Shiv (NPC, Yuki), Shroom's brother, comes to challenge her. Uzor refuses to let Shiv see her, knowing she's in no state to fight.

By then, Mest and his army have barged in. He reaches Uzor just in time to see Shiv kill the stallion. Mest kills Shiv in return.

Uzor may be dead, but Mest's effort had not all been for naught. He recognizes Sardine as his daughter, who he thought he lost to a fire. Jellyfish, with the knowledge gained from her time in the Dark Brotherhood, confirms her identity. Mest and his army take her with them back to the surface.

Masque and Sardine are reunited. However, all the progress they've made with one another have been lost. Sardine has not only regressed to her old, aggressive self, but has new traumas she must deal with, as well as the knowledge that she betrayed Masque's trust when it came to Vlad, and that she did the very thing she criticized them for with Conqueror. When it comes to Masque:

Quote:
// C+P from Diamond

Masque will be heartbroken at Sardine's disappearance and will spend many a night and day searching for her, all the while worrying whether she's okay, what has happened, was it something that they did?? Slowly but surely Masque will begin to withdraw into them self again and return to their mindset of 'I'm a monster who scares everyone off.' Masque will ofc continue to look after their family because they love their babies and would do anything for them, but from outsiders looking in it appears that Masque has lost their spark almost.

With Sardine's return Masque will be a mixed bag of emotions tbh, utterly delighted but also unsure and wary. However, Masques love for Sardine will outweigh these emotions for the most part, they will just be somewhat unsure how to act around her anymore though, kind of reverting to how they were when they were first together.

When the Sardine/Vlad babies come along, while Masque will be a little hurt they realize that the situation is no different to their situation with Conqueror had been. So basically Masque is gonna love and raise those babbins as if they were their own, because after all they are Sardine's babies and they love Sardine no matter what.

The two will raise Sardine's children with Vlad together. In the meantime, they must learn to build each other up again, and come out stronger in the end.

They move to an out-of-the-way territory to heal, then later choose to stay when Sardine realizes she cannot cope with being around too many soquili.

--- TIME GOES ON ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Finally, these events kick off a plot where:
  • Jellyfish knows about their family, and that they are alive. (Anchovy, Sardine, Snapper, Wolffish, Jellyfish, and Mest's two.)
/// Would they know about the Pancake twins?
  • Jellyfish, Sardine, and Mest's two already know about each other. They begin searching for the location of the others. Sardine does not help with the search at first, as she's busy recuperating.
  • Ultimately, they will all reunite. However, Sardine's relationship with her brother, Snapper, will always be tense.

/// need diamond's input on everything below to make it canon
Although Sardine will be too busy recuperating to be able to help much with the search effort, the family will ultimately come together. I was thinking that this would give them hope that perhaps they'd be able to find Masque's family, too? And it could give them a reason to come out of their little hermit home, to go into brief excursions where they search for a bit -> go back home to recuperate -> search again? We could have them:
- Know that there's a low chance of finding them, but continue to search because they still find value in traveling (in case plans are such that the family ends up never coming to life).
- Or say they find the fam + some/most/all of the family members are NPCs (in case plans are such that only a few fam members are customed in but canonically there are more or anything).

Finally, there was a hole I wanted to patch up, since it looked like Sardine's stint with Lux is longer than I imagined when we'd first PM'd one another about it. Thoughts about this???
  • Lux finds them
  • Lux goads Sardine into working for her, threatening to hurt Masque if she refuses.
  • Sardine goes to Lux, but does not disclose the reason why to Masque.

  • Masque is obviously concerned. They know Sardine's history and that Lux was the one that killed her family. However, Sardine merely tells them that things have changed.
  • Masque is not sure that is the case, especially considering Conq is telling them about how she's under her mom's thumb. However, Sardine is so upset that she's using Lux as an excuse to hurt others, and she DEFINITELY does not want Masque to find out about that. So the deeper they pry, the frostier she gets, ESPECIALLY as their relationship with Conq develops. (Sardine knows Conq can be a little mean, esp since Conq teases Sardine about her relationship with Masque, however as far as she's aware, it's just being catty; hence, she believes Conq's relationship with Masque is genuine and isn't aware that they are being tricked.)
  • Ultimately Masque values listening to Sardine over their own gut feeling and lets her do what she like. (This can lead to regret in the future, when they realize they could have prevented Sardine from killing her niece/nephew and then further prevent Sardine from ending up in the Pit. It could teach them to be a bit more forward in the future?)

The Nightwalkers are a herd with strong kalona roots. They started as a syndicate, the founding mare—known as the Progenitor—having gathered the warring herds under her iron rule. While she mete out truce between her fellow kalona, others knew her as the herald of horror. As the once-warring herds could no longer test their teeth on one another, they turned their attentions outward, and the devastation they wrought made the rivers run red long after they’d sated their appetite.

They had a large territory all their own, where no outsider dared venture. They knew prosperity, but never peace. The founding herds had all been powerful before, after all, and that power was not so easily given up. Although time and the passage of many generations has strengthened their sense of unity and they fall under a single banner, remnants of their origin can be seen in the many factions within the herd. These factions grapple with one another for the ultimate power: the role of herd leader, known as the First.

OVERVIEW
The Nightwalkers value the traditional kalona tenants of superiority, strength, and cunning. They are not so much evil as pragmatic and a little pessimistic. As their name implies, they follow a nocturnal cycle and sleep during the day.

In the beginning, half of their ancestors cried for the continuation of savage traditions to maintain their ruthless prowess, while the other criticized the needless bloodshed amongst their own. The Progenitor saw the value in both, and in present day the herd tests their mettle against one another with a series of ritualized competitions, known as the Trials. Members of the varying groups send their prized fighters to participate, for victory brings with it not only prestige to their faction, but power, too.

A faction that has won in all Trials—an occurrence that takes place roughly once every few years—may send a champion to challenge the First. The loser is killed. (While at first glance, this appears to go against the Trials' purpose of preventing members from killing one another, the practice is kept for the sake of the herd. Any faction that seeks to challenge the First must know they face a cost, so that they will not waste the herd's time with half-hearted champions in a crude attempt for power.) The winner is crowned the new or continuing First, and will hold that title for as long as they can defend their position. While it is encouraged that they take on advisors, they are granted ultimate control over the herd. The First may never step down; they may only lose their position by being killed.

Although it is technically possible to challenge the First at any time, regardless of the number of Trials won, the herd considers it impractical. Such a method of succession lends itself to instability. In addition, a ruler cannot lead if they must constantly fight, and the threat of death at any moment may cause many to look toward short-term gain rather than long-term growth. To defeat the First outside of sanctioned battle is considered foolish and cowardly, and the herd will not recognize the killer as a worthy ruler. (This is not to say the First is untouchable, for they are constantly honing their skills in anticipation of the next challenger, and it is quite common for them to spar with others of the herd. It is merely that any harm that befalls the First outside of an official challenge will be seen as a natural consequence of their brutal lifestyle, rather than as a bid for leadership. Anyone that harms the First and claims otherwise will be seen as a buffoon.)

While the herd values strength, they are not blind to all other qualities. The Progenitor was not only tenacious, after all, but also wise. It is for this reason that the First may take on a Second, the trusted head of advisors.

The herd regularly conducts raid on nearby herds to collect supplies, remind the lesser of their place, or to chase away potential competition while it’s still young. In addition, this allows particularly ravenous members to partake of blood sport without hurting their fellow herd mates.

IN-DEPTH: THE TRIALS
The Trials are intensive competitions that seek to gauge the strength and capabilities of their participants. The winner is the one who completes that Trial’s objective, which is not necessarily the one that inflicts the most harm. This allows the herd to test the skill of their warriors without needlessly hurting their own.

A Trial typically has one winner, but can have as many as three depending on the type of competition. The winning faction—not the winning individual—is awarded a medallion. As a result, particularly proficient warriors may hop from faction to faction, offering their services to the highest bidder. Individuals who have done well are given prestige, even if they did not win, and may be treated more respectfully by their peers.

A Trial may also vary in length. There are at least five trials a year, but there have been instances where the herd saw at least one new Trial a month. Trials may run concurrently, and it is the responsibility of the herd’s Second to administrate the schedule. (If no Second exists, the First must take on the work themselves, or assign it to another.)

When a faction has obtained ten medallions—which takes on average five years for a particularly influential faction—they may issue a formal challenge. To prevent factions from simply sitting on their medallions, they have been designed to deteriorate over time, and may no longer be used after a certain point.

All factions are invested in winning Trials. A faction usually has their own agenda they want to push; they may gain support via prestige from winning Trials, and attempt for the position of First as well. Even if a faction has no goals of its own, they may want to prevent a rival from gaining the upper hand. Finally, if a faction wants to maintain the status quo, they must win medallions to ensure no other herd may use them to issue a challenge.

RECENT HISTORY
Although the herd will accept any kalona able to withstand their way of life, purity of breed has grown difficult to come by as the generations wore on, and many of their numbers came from within the herd than without. Mixedbreeds were a sore point, and this came to a violent head when the Nightwalkers aided their brethren in the Great Kalona War. During the war, the soquili of the Kawani lands banded together to break apart the aggressors and defend their land, spelling a surprising—but unquestionable—defeat for the kalona. What started as a way to settle kalona superiority once and for all instead led to increased infighting within the herd, especially as the First was one of the many kalona to lose their lives to the war.

By rights, the Second retains leadership during this transient time, but the faction knew it was only temporary. When a First is killed without a successor, all factions are allowed to send in a champion of their choosing a year after the First's death, regardless of the faction's eligibility. The champions face one another in an all-out brawl, and the sole survivor takes on the mantle of leadership. The new leader's rule, however, was short-lived. His wounds were great, and he could not withstand his first challenge years later.

A more promising First holds control of the herd now. While he has been content to follow in the footsteps of his two predecessors, the Nightwalkers know the factions would not send a challenger if they did not wish for change, and all eyes look toward him to see what he does next.

THE SECOND STAR
The Second Star was one of the original herds that made up the Nightwalkers.

According to their founding tale, they were a small herd that faced off against the might of the monstrous Baneblood and her crew. Her will was indomitable, and her followers were many. The herd could not face her except in the dark of night, when they could call upon shadows to cloak their forms and strike their enemies unseen. Despite their tenacity, they lost more than they won, and their already small herd was growing smaller.

They gathered together after a particularly brutal loss, taking stock of the few that remained to them. They knew their enemy would expect them to scamper off to lick their wounds in peace. And they also knew they would not have a second chance.

They marched their force the next night for a final battle. As usual, they wore shadows like a second skin, going not after Baneblood’s armies but for the heart of her camp, where they knew she would be. Before they struck, however, an explosion sounded in the air. This explosion was known as the First Star, and the force of its blow filled the sky with fire. All shadows but the ones beneath their hooves were destroyed, leaving them exposed in the middle of enemy territory.

Despair at their failure turned to desperation, and then fury. They gouged and kicked and screamed and fought like they never had before. But they were losing, pushed back, nearly destroyed. It was at this moment that a second light filled the sky.

A comet flung from heaven arced above their heads to strike the ground before them. Despite the distance, they felt the shockwave of the impact and were sent flying back. The beasts closest to the comet turned to ash; the more unfortunate were merely burned and left to die a slow death.

Baneblood, enraged by the fall of her warriors, turned her claws to what remained of the herd. Her fur had caught fire in the comet’s wake, but she did not feel it, and her approach nullified any chance of kalona using their dark powers once again. What the kalona realized, however, was that they needed their shadows no more.

Reinvigorated by the awe-inspiring power of the comet, they met Baneblood blow for blow. After a battle that saw half of their remaining dead, they struck the killing blow and ended Baneblood’s reign over their lands forever.

They named themselves after the comet that helped them win the battle, and many of their descendants today bear the mark of the Second Star.

MARKING
The Second Star is depicted as a fanged circle with a comet’s tail.

Although they held a high position early on in the herd’s history, their power dwindled over time, and they were kicked out of the herd when their leader refused to cast out his crossbred son. They lived a meager existence after that, finding what scraps they could in their unfamiliar and inhospitable new territory. Over time, they grew to know these lands as they had once known their home, and they may have stayed there forever had the crossbred son not fallen in love.

The crossbred son had known harshness all his life: harshness from his family, his herd, his territory. When he first met the kirin that stumbled onto their land, he did not know what to do with her. She took advantage of his hesitance and fled before she could be felled, but she must have seen something in his eyes, for she found herself walking the same path not a week later. Their courtship held the sweetest days he had ever known.

He did not want his life for her, but he could not leave his family. The sense of familial duty that kept him bound to the herd, however, soon worked against him. His love was beautiful and graceful, but savage too when she needed to be, and she did not need his aid to defend herself; but it was one thing to want to protect her from his herd... and quite another to protect their unborn child.

When he heard of the pregnancy, he cut off ties from his herd, and the two lovers escaped to lead a gentler life together. The Second Star could not accept this, however. They had forsaken their home, their wealth, and their prestige to look after one of their own blood. To know they gave it all up for one who renounced them was intolerable.

They chased the crossbreed down, and when they thought they had killed him and his family, they returned to the Nightwalkers to admit mixedbreeds were inferior after all, and to ask for their old place once more. While they were welcomed back, they have remained a lesser faction ever since.

When the Great Kalona War reached their doors, they gladly supported the side of the kalona.

// ETA: The herd likely began conducting raids and abducting kalona baskets to boost their numbers, as well as offering membership to grown kalona. However, pure-blooded kalona became harder to find over time (reflecting the shop's history as it grew more open to cross and hyperbreeds). Thus, although they still regularly steal kalona baskets, it's not enough to match the numbers they need.

THE UNDYING
Many Nightwalkers met their end in the Great Kalona War, the First and his three children among them. While the herd recognized strength based on personal merit rather than familial connection, it was undoubtable that the First's children had advantage over their peers—when they were still alive, that is. Their father took special care to include them whenever he went about businesses of state, and the weight of their words against his ears were the envy of every advisor. The youngest of these children was Roderick, said to be the most unassuming, and therefore the most dangerous.

He was a secretive stallion, but he was also a candidate for leadership, and held the attention of many. Rumors ran rampant. Some claimed that he had killed his first soquili when he was barely out of the basket, that his raids left none alive, that the strength of his gaze could steal the very soul. More sinister tales say he had been the cause of his mother’s unfortunate demise, as well as his sibling’s near fatal-accident. He was painted with the brutality of the herd’s ancestors before the Progenitor brought them together, but with the cunning mind of one who could avoid the pitfalls of infighting. Overall, these rumors prophesized that if he became the First, he would take the herd down a bloody path from which they would either ascend or be destroyed. These rumors subsided upon his death—or at least, they should have...

Rook (Ryuukishin) was one of the many ravens born on herd lands. He’d shown uncanny intelligence since he was a hatchling; stuck in his nest and too young to fly, he loved to listen to the herd and, later, to learn about them. What he enjoyed best were the tales of the herd’s prosperous days, back before the Great Kalona War had divided the beliefs of the herd. His kalona brethren were often surprised to hear his probing questions, for they hinted at a level of insight not seen by those his age. They answered easily enough, however, for Rook had grown to be like a brother to them, and they were happy to indulge his quick mind and dogged temper.

It was during one of his studies into the hidden history of Roderick that he began to get an inkling of some ominous, yet then ungraspable, truth. While many knew of the enigmatic stallion from rumors alone, he found he could sift through them, finding facts amongst the embellishments and exaggerations. (For instance, he knew that Roderick’s first kill was during foalhood, and simply not right after he emerged from his basket. His fool caretaker had simply slipped and cracked his head, and the idea of the First’s son being an exceptionally powerful killer was more palatable to the kalona who found them, than the thought that any one of them could perish due to simple clumsiness and misfortune. Roderick had certainly not gone after his own family—though, after looking into some clues, Rook found that the stallion had been behind the deaths of certain individuals who had the potential to grow to be his political enemies.) These revelations came so easily to him as to be intuition, and though he knew himself to be gifted, not even he thought it should have been so simple.

The answer came to him in a dream. In it, he found himself amidst a great battle. Though the scene was unfamiliar to him, he stuck instinctively with the kalona of his dreams, finding solace among them as he did during his waking hours. When he turned from them, it was to strike out with cloven feet, crushing the meat of his enemies and snapping their bones in two. Though he retained his wings, they were naked and leathery. His beak had become a delicate muzzle, but he’d fangs instead and long horns besides.

They were soon surrounded. He gladly entered the fray, and the liquid ease with which he moved and dodged and parried betrayed the fact that many long hours had gone into training. His muscles strained with effort though he felt no fatigue, and he’d eyes only for the soft horseflesh he sought to destroy. What followed suit was a whirlwind of motion: no anticipation, no fear, no thought—nothing, but death itself.

He’d lost himself to the motions, but his eyes gained sudden clarity when an unseen force stopped him in his tracks. A dark kalona mare emblazoned with magenta spots stood before him. Her jaws held a metal rod, and he traced its length to find its pointed edge had buried itself in his heart.

His world went black, and when Rook awoke, he knew: he was Roderick reborn.

VAGABOND
The Nightwalkers did not take kindly to Rook’s claims. Regardless of whether or not he was a reincarnation of one of their own, he was still a raven. He could not fight, or participate in their Trials, and it was by their mercy alone that he was even allowed to live. That he sought to make such assertions with no strength to back it up turned him from esteemed to barely tolerated within a fortnight. Though a few believed him, they claimed he was given the body of a raven as punishment for his failure in the war.

Thoroughly disgraced, Rook left the herd behind. But he could not stay away for long. The herd was in turmoil; the factions among them had grown even more fractured since the outcome of the war. Previously, kalona superiority had been undisputed: the factions were either for it or against, and the majority had been content to go with the former. Now, there were gradations, swathes of gray in place of black and white. On top of that, they had gone too long living in seclusion and terrorizing potential neighbors. The herd had faced strictly planned breeding regiments for the past few generations, and needed new blood—but from whom? Kalona, or the “lessers” who’d proven their strength? The First was still new to the role, and could barely hold the factions together. Rook could not return to the herd just yet, but he knew an opportunity when he saw one.

It seemed fate agreed, for he soon found his path crossed with that of a colt’s. The child was a mutt through and through, but his ancestry was undeniable: along the center of his muzzle lay the mark of the Second Star.

HERITAGE
Rook discovered that the child, Koi (Ryuukishin), was the great-grandson of the kalona crossbreed that had spurned the Second Star and led to them to return to the Nightwalkers. Rook could not locate any other relations save for the boy’s mother, but they were clearly ignorant of their heritage. The mother was too sharp, experienced, and cautious for him to get near, but the foal was malleable to his touch.

TRAINING
Playing the part of the loyal familiar, he won the foal’s trust and began grooming him to be his champion, to fight where he could not and to battle those in the Nightwalkers that would oppose him. Although there was much he could teach the foal, however, his avian body prevented him from properly training Koi in the arts of fighting. What he needed was a tutor.

Hayden (Kyrieko) is at first blush the stereotypical kalona: a cruel purist, with no mercy to spare on lessers. However, she is not driven by blood alone; she did not help her brethren in the Great Kalona War, and her action (or lack thereof) left her with a sense of guilt she felt she could overcome only by tormenting others. It was down this lonely path that Rook found her, and invited her to join his cause. Seeing the potential Koi possessed and her chance for redemption, Hayden agreed.

Away from the watchful eyes of his parents, they trained the young Koi in the arts of war.

  • A flying lesson gone wrong will leave Koi far from home and unable to return. He is still a foal, and forced to stay under Hayden’s care. The two develop a stronger bond from the experience. Rook encourages the relationship, hoping Hayden will grow to defend Koi not out of duty alone, but out of maternal care, too. In addition, Rook pretends to visit home and alert Koi’s parents of his whereabouts; when he returns from the fabricated trip, he tells Koi his parents don’t care and have emotionally abandoned him. (Although his parents genuinely care for him, both have recently faced their own traumas which made it difficult for them to open up. As such, the lie is accepted readily.)
  • Rook is unable to protect and care for a foal himself, and is reliant on Koi’s parents to fulfill those needs. However, he will continue to chip away at Koi’s relationship with his family, further cementing the foal’s dependence on Rook and Hayden. This includes: revealing Sardine’s dark past and emphasizing her cruelty, including requesting Reaper of Lost Hearts (Kyrieko), an individual with more ties to Sardine than him, to back his claim; playing up on the fact that Sardine’s mate is not his blood father; equating Masque’s relationship with Conqueror of the Weak (xxx Yuki Bear xxx) to cheating; and so forth.
  • In combination with the above, Rook will break down the lessons Koi had learned from his parents and teach the foal to accept strength and cruelty as the pillars of life. One way Rook and Hayden do this is to give him another familiar to raise on his own. Once the familiar reaches adulthood, Rook and Hayden administer a slow poison without Koi’s knowledge, and tell Koi he must kill the familiar or have it suffer. Koi takes the familiar’s life.
  • By the time Rook leaves the area, Koi is ready to follow.

OFFER
Rook and Hayden began their relationship with the intent to use the other as much as possible. Over time, they grow closer, with Rook ultimately admitting to his reincarnation and his intention to return to the Nightwalkers—not merely to be accepted once more in their presence, but to take advantage of their turmoil and lead a puppet Koi to become First. Having come to trust the mare, Rook offers her a place of power within the herd if she helps him succeed. He knows Koi’s clearly mix-blooded heritage will make the challenge all the harder; however, Hayden had come to accept Koi’s strengths (and, by extension, the strength of lesser breeds) as she continued to teach him, and she accepts Rook’s offer.

HBTTTTT!!! saving stuff from the recesses of my inbox; need to add to teepee or relevant plot post later

Rán's Personality
what a nice summary, dang!! rewrite so it can go into her teepee
Personality-wise, she's friendly and outgoing. She likes to take the lead and is quick on her feet; if she took her friends out for an adventure but then got lost, she would try to make it fun and exciting so that they can all still have a good time.

Her confidence often dips towards haughtiness; she was a born prodigy, so sometimes finds it difficult to understand why others are having trouble with something when it was so easy for her. On the flip side, she only expects from others what she expects from herself, so her self-assurance is not entirely unwarranted.

When it comes to Thaddeus, I can see her treating him like a big teddy bear, haha. If she was stuck in his area (eg. on a quest to find something, weather makes it impossible for her to fly, etc.), then she'd go to him to have a friend around. vwv She's used to taking charge, so will need reminding if he doesn't want to be ordered about, but she's happy to oblige once he makes his preferences known. (Eg. she's the type who'll say "We can have an adventure, come on! Ooh, looks like there's something going on on the other side of the bank! Take that tree down and we can use it as a bridge to cross." without asking what he'd want to do or if he was even interested in crossing the stream in the first place, haha.) Ultimately, her intentions are good, it just sometimes takes a while to remind her that others have interests that are different from her own.

Inugami x Iris-Raven's Past
inu's stuff i need to update her past
Inu's rough timeline is:
  • Born to a Flock mother and outsider father. The mother abandoned her children with the father, but in a fit of guilt came back for them.
  • Inu was the only one who chose to follow her mother into the Flock.
  • Although she loves her mother and her new family, feelings of isolation escalate negative emotions. She comes to feel she's being unduly punished.
  • These events culminate in a violent outburst where she accidentally attacks a Flock male. He promises he won't tell anyone about it, but the guilt and unhappiness she feels drives her off, with her mother helping her escape.
  • Events outside the Flock continue to perverse the way she sees the world; with the help of an insane stallion, she comes to believe that she's bearing the sins of others (aka she believes she's being punished for no reason when in reality she's blowing the negative events she faces out of proportion) and that she's a martyr for doing so.
  • She comes to exact judgement on those she believes are evil, consuming their flesh after their deaths to truly purge them from the world.

Would you be open to Raven being the male she'd accidentally hurt? She liked him a lot when she was a little filly, so it would guilt her even more if it'd been him she'd wounded, rather than a random NPC hahaha.

As for their meeting, this is what mind told me:

Quote:
There's also an option of a flockborn stallion being escorted by a mare to the ancestral lands and the mare in question ends up befriending the two of them and the two Flock members decide to just.. Let it be a secret between the three of them.

The outsider mare and the stallion are attracted to each other and the Flock Mare is hoping to perhaps convince her new friend to join the flock or at least remain an outside and secret connection and the three barter a roll in the hay

(That or an evil mare in this situation manages to catch the stallion when he's behaving and waiting at the camp for the mare to return from a hunting trip and catches him off guard and forces him into it, or tricks the duo into trusting her alone and then convince the stallion to go with her "She told me she wanted us to catch up with her" and trick him.)

I don't think it would work out if the mare knew about Inu, since she isn't a stranger but an ex-Flock member LMAO. So their best chance of meeting would be if he was taken to the ancestral lands, and she caught him alone while his escort was out hunting? Inu would have fond memories of him, so despite the fact that she'd grown up to be twisted, she'd still be kind. >v< I think it'd be interesting for them both to see how much she'd changed, though?

Would that be an okay setting for our RP between them? Or did you want to change or add anything?

Anchovy's History
not yet approved
FALLING IN LOVE

Anchovy is papa's little warrior. She was raised to be confident in herself and won't let herself be bullied or taken advantage of; in addition, she’s very vocal about calling people out, and won’t let her silence be the reason for someone else’s misdeeds. However, while she was loud and rambunctious with her family, she mellows out and begins to wander after the presumed death of her parents and baby siblings.

The fire that slaughtered her family left her with numerous burns. While a passing herd of healers saved her from most of the damage and left her with only temporarily sensitive skin, the event left her quiet and reserved.

The calm and gentle Orpheus finds her in the mud, where she’d laid down to rest and soothe her skin. He stood over her and protected her from the rain, and eventually she finds the strength to go with him to shelter.

The two travel together after that, finding comfort in each other’s company. [Adventures they have on the road together go here.]

However, while they’re fond of one another, Anchovy is fueled by rage and hatred; she so desperately desires revenge against Lux, the mare that started the fire that killed her family, and these harsh feelings conflict with Orphy’s kinder nature. Ultimately, they choose to leave one another.

They travel alone, but the solitude gives them time to contemplate. They think about one another, and with a start, realize they’d loved each other all along. However, it’s too late to go back; they don’t know that the other reciprocates the feeling, and the Kawani land is too vast to search when they don’t know where the other is going. There is little else to do but move on.

[Adventures they have on their own go here.]**

Years later, they run into one another. Anchovy’s search has taken her to Lux, who has taken Orpheus captive. [Clarify with Yuki to ensure Lux’s role in this works with her character.] On top of that, they come across Bob [placeholder name], an individual who despise Orpheus, judging the skeletal stallion by his looks rather than his nature.

The two are able to work together to thwart Lux’s plans, and by doing so, save Bob’s herd from destruction, too. Lux is forced back, at least for the time being; Bob learns not to judge a book by its cover; and Anchovy and Orpheus are able to reunite at last.

However, while Lux has been chased off, she is not gone. Orphy worries that Anchovy will leave to pursue revenge once more; however, she tells him that she would rather leave Lux alone than lose someone she loves again. This is the first time Anchovy tells Orphy she loves him, and he reciprocates the declaration.

---

SIDE PLOTS (PRE REUNION)

**One of the adventures deals with Annabelle Lee x Orpheus.

Anna befriended Orphy, hoping to use and blindside him. At the time, Orphy had adopted three baskets; however, Anna takes the baskets in his sleep and flings them into the river. Orphy is devastated, and Anna consoles him. She takes advantage of his heartbroken state to convince him that she’s the love of his life. When she has their baskets, however, they are subject to the same fate. She tells Orphy everything, knowing how deep it would cut the family-loving stallion, and leaves him.

Aurianna, Aria’s Angeni of Motherhood finds and raises Tuna. Anchovy raises Salmon and Phantasm. Tuna and Salmon ultimately reunite, and they are all able to meet Orphy once again. (While Orphy would have missed their lives as children, he would be able to bond with them when they’re adults.)

The fate of Orphy’s children with Anna is unknown.

SIDE PLOTS (POST REUNION)

During Anchovy and Orphy’s travels, they come across Neffy, a primal and dog-like usdia, and the nomadic herd he is a part of.

Anchovy and Neffy bond, and he agrees to surrogate for the pair. Because this happens soon after their battle with Lux, Anchovy and Orphy choose to travel with the herd for its protection. They continue on their travels after the children have grown into fine adults. (Whether or not the children choose to stay with the herd or follow them will be up to the owners.)

---

GREATER GOOD

Some side-drama between Sardine, Lux, and a rival herd a little before Lux’s downfall leads Sardine to be reunited with Yuki’s Jellyfish (half-sister) and Mest (father). With the help of Jellyfish’s information network, they find out that their family members survived and escaped the fire that had separated them so long ago. They go on a hunt to find the rest of the family, and eventually Anchovy is reunited with the rest of her family.

By chance, Anchovy and Orphy come across others who are in danger or seeker help. They know from their experience with Lux what it’s like to be harassed and to fear for their safety, and they also know how to look after themselves. They offer aid to these soquili, and little by little they end up starting a sanctuary herd.

Garland's History
ok so we know this boy inherited a tendency to hallucinate from his mother. During these events, he has visions of some far-off, fantastical world that he can oversee but is not a part of. Instead of flopping into an unconscious state like any other self-respectable dreamlander, his body goes on "autopilot;" that is, he'll do things that are more instinctive (he's more likely to use common sayings, idioms, and so forth, that don't require him to create a specific sequence of words so much as pull from already-existing material) and, by extension, be more impulsive. When he comes to, he'll find himself further ahead in time than he expected and that he/his body has done things during the interim. (This can be compared to people getting blackout drunk and having no memory of what transpired—except, of course, that his hallucinations are out of his control.)

He was pretty laissez-faire about it as a kiddo; they tended to last from a few minutes to a few hours, and having been raised by a mother with a similar affliction, it had been normalized for him to the point where he was not overly bothered. This changed shortly after he reached adulthood, when he had an episode that lasted a few weeks and came to in an entirely different region, wracked with pain and covered with the blood of another soquili.

Naja Pallida (techabyte) found him and helped the stallion get clean and acclimated to the desert. She taught him how to obtain protection from the heat and sands, find water, and ultimately guided him out of the desert. He began traveling from there, tracing his steps to simultaneously find his home and find out what happened (and, more importantly, whose blood had been on his hooves? Surely, too much for the soquili to still be alive...).

What happened, as he would later discover, was that Fumeina Namae (hanging gallow) found him in the middle of one of his hallucinations. His impulsiveness made him more pliant, and he agreed to do a favor for the mare: equipped with the poisons she gave him, he left to to disable one of Fume's rivals, Nocthli Saguaro (Leez0rz & hanging gallow), and steal some of his coveted materials.

As he traveled to the stallion's lair, he came across Neomonni (mindsend), a mare with a noxious plume rising from her back. While Garland normally would have returned to himself before he could go through with Fume's plan, the cloud on Neo's back caused Garland's hallucinogenic episode to last longer than usual, and to this day he has no memory of the fling he had with her.

He reached Noct shortly after, but the stallion had an immunity to the paralyzing poison and the mission went awry. Garland was forced to resort to physical violence, but he had never been a strong fighter to begin with. While surprise gave him the upper hand and allowed him the blow that spilled Noct's blood across his own pelt, he was soon forced to flee to escape Noct's retribution. His flight took him far, far into the desert, which is where Naja found him.

Terror Incognita (hanging gallow) witnessed the end of the altercation and would later give Garland the piece of the puzzle he needs to find his way back to Noct, and then Fume.

Fume was able to fill in most of the missing pieces. As they spoke, he realized that his symptoms were not unlike someone being poisoned. Hoping to look for a cure, he asked to study under her and became her apprentice.

The two's relationship developed from there. Now that Fume is aware of Garland's condition, she tries to make sure he doesn't wander far from their swamp whenever he's in the middle of one of his hallucinations. Although he'll have to accept one of these days that his affliction is incurable, and he has since graduated from his apprenticeship to become Fume's partner, he still has particular focus on poisons and their antidotes. He has adopted a much looser set of ethics as well, and has no qualms about selling poisons and other potions with Fume. (To be clear, neither are the type to harm others if it can be avoided. However, if another party wants to buy poisons? That's their business.)

And I don't mind waiting if you are interested.

Malice is a rotten creature, enjoying watching others war among each other.
He has a tendency to be a very silent fellow because his jaws pain him when speaking for the horns that pull at the skin on his face.
He's not unnecessarily violent, but does enjoy a good fight, as well as a challenge.

If they were to have children, while he isn't a very good figure for fatherhood he would take some pride in making them, kind of that "apple of my eye" way.
