O-okay, maybe third time was a charm? He tried again.

Nope, the armor wasn't working, and the spider was still just as scary.

Upon his forth try of tying the bark on a dummy, Jason didn't run away this time. He just dropped to his knees and hid behind his hands as the sounds of ripping and tearing reached his ears.

He peaked behind a few fingers to see the bark was again shredded to pieces, but a small amount remained which..probably counted as a pass.

He sniffled, and started to cry in relief that he was finished. The spider came over to pat him on the shoulder with one leg as if to say 'there there, there there'.

Hayden laughed at the ghoul, moving closer to her. She seemed cool, and friendly.

"Yes, that's the kind of ghouls you need to make friends with." Devoss whispered as Hayden moved closer to the ghoul.

However she didn't get far when the teacher started to talk. She gave the other ghoul a smile before turning to pay attention. She wasn't sure which of the material she would use, though the spider webbing did sound like the best idea.

Once the teacher stopped talking she looked back over at Piper, "Maybe we will get dummies next to each other." she said before hopping off and going to the floor. Putting Devoss on the floor she bowed at the spider that was to help her. "Thank you for helping us today, I think I'm going to try using your web if you are okay with that? It seems like the best bet." she said joyfully. She wasn't sure but she thought that she saw the spider nod before they left to one of the dummies towards the end.

After the spider made armor for the dummy he attacked, killing the dummy. Well if it was alive he would have killed it that was. "Wow..." Devoss said as he cleaned one of his paws, clearly impressed.

After a few seconds Hayden decided that she would try using spider webbing again. It still seemed like the best bet, even if the dummy had been destroyed. "Do you mind if we do the same thing again? Using your webbing and all?" she asked. The spider went and repeated his actions once again, though Hayden thought that he used more web this time then the last time.

This time when he attacked the dummy it was still standing! The thing was pretty beat up, but at least it wasn't destroyed. "You did it!" she said excitedly. Looking around she wondered where the ghoul that had invited her over was now.

"Come on Hayden, let's get back to the teacher. There might be another part to this challenge." Devoss said as soon as he finished cleaning his paw. She nodded, placing a hand on the spider and walking back towards where the large web was. Being around the large spider made her miss home a bit, since her mother had a camel spider as a familiar. However she shook off the homesickness. She wouldn't be able to do things like this at home.

From her spot in the middle of the web where Kari had been trying not to garner attention while keeping her eyes locked on the spiders surrounding the edge, she heard the teacher speak once more. from the sounds of it, she was explaining their task.

It sounded simple enough, leather was sturdy, but required killing an animal to procure along with knife skills. Bark was easy to obtain and light, but also brittle. Metal was sturdy, but heavy. Spider silk... nope. Kari couldn't do it, no matter how strong the teacher claimed it was. The idea of confronting a spider for its web was beyond her. Her heart dropped into her stomach when the teacher began assigning spiders to each student with claims that they would be attacking their selected material. As an eight foot spider came crawling up to her, it took everything in the reaper's power not to swat it away. She really wanted to, though.

"Y-y-you... you b-better not t-try a-a-anything!," the ghoul stammered, keeping the spider in her sights and her staff close to her chest. First... something that could withstand an attack. Bark was out, it was far too brittle. Spiderweb was out too. That left leather or metal. Metal appealed most since it could be manipulated with fire. She could to that easily, being a fire mage and all.

Backing towards the pile of steel while keeping the arachnid in front of her, her hand reached back for a sheet of metal. Grasping it tightly, she set to work on molding it into a breastplate. Keeping the spider in her peripheral vision, she heated, bent the metal, and let it cool. repeating the process over and over, she eventually had a breastplate that she felt would pass the test.

Placing the armor on the dummy, she backed away a good ways before giving the go ahead to attack it. The spider was relentless in its attack, slicing through the armor with ease.

"Fantastic... it can cut through metal...," Kari groaned as the need to cry began surfacing once more.

Maybe it had been too thin? Kari had spent quite a bit of time molding the metal into a proper form. maybe that had made it less sturdy?

Trying once more, she started melting and molding all while watching the spider from the corner of her eye. Thankfully, it kept a good distance.

Finally finished, the reaper held the second attempt up. It didn't look as nice, but she hoped that it would be able to withstand an attack. Setting it on another dummy, Kari backed away quickly as the spider prepared to attack.

Kari whined when the attack once more cut through the steel armor. What was she missing?

Torsten heard their teacher speak. Taking everything into account he wasn't going to let his pride stand in his way of becoming stronger. Taking a deep breath he looked to the trembling hands on his shoulders. Mellows ghoul-phobia was crippling his partner. Reaching up Torsten took Mellow's face into his hands as he directed the other to lock eyes with him.

"Mellow. Listen to me. Only me. Ignore everything else. I know its going to be hard to, but push your fear down. We're in class. Yes. We're both faced with something which frightens us. We can't let that define us. Our teacher is a Ghoul. That's your fear, we're able to walk away from her. Did you hear her instructions for our assignment? We have to work with a spider. I'm not too comfortable with them, but guess what. We're doing this class. We're passing and we're getting your mother off your back." as he spoke the small dragon was slowly stroking the other boils cheekbones with his small thumbs. He smiled up at the other boil. "Now...you ready to pick our material and make this armor?"

Done with his small little pep talk the dragon kept his hands where they were.

This is where the fact that Tor would play the part of the girl is sorta funny to me...

Astra had spent much of the professors discussion sobbing quietly, thankfully quieting her wailing so she wouldn't disturb the rest of the class. She had been distraught before when she found Yuki with those two frog ghouls, and had hoped that he would have come to her and apologized. Been nice to her, taken her out for a romantic dinner, things like that. But nope, he didn't see her once. and was now in a class with a third ghoul. Did he even care about her at all?

She ignored the both of them until Tajana has finished telling them what to do, somehow having listened to it even through her crying. Glancing back at the duo her eyes glowed threatening when it looked like the ghoul was going to speak, and she hid her smirk of satisfaction when she saw her scamper away. Serves her right.

Instead of going over to Yuki however, she choose to approach her new 'partner', and was even happy enough to hop onto it's back. Astra may have been frightened by large fire breathing dragons, but spiders didn't bother her, considering she lived in a forest where there was plenty of them. Just as long as she wasn't trapped in a web with one hanging over her face she was fine.

Slowly the spider descended from the web on a strand of silk, landing on the ground and then heading towards the dummies at Astra's direction.

"If it's okay Mr spider, could I use some of your spiderweb? She asked politely, and when the spider obliged, the fae quickly throwing the freshly spun webbing onto the dummy, then flew back and indicated for it to attack.

"Aww" It didn't appear she had placed it on properly.

"Hmm... maybe... no, that would just make it more brittle...," the reaper pondered, holding the sheet of metal in her hands. How could she meld it into a proper breastplate while still maintaining the solidity? It certainly didn't help her concentration when the spider following her kept looming in the background. Not to mention the other spiders crawling about around her.

As Kari began to put the steel back onto the pile in resignation, a spark of inspiration hit her. What if she overlapped the material? She would have less surface area to work with, but it would double the strength. Setting herself to the task, the determined ghoul began heating the metal so it would fold together to create an additional layer. Some heat here to bond the edges together... a bend there... some more heat to soften the kink in the armor... let it cool.... and done!

The finished product was smaller than she would have like, but it felt solid. It took a bit of effort to fit it onto the dummy, but eventually it fell into place. Backing away once more, Kari gave the signal. The spider flew into action, attacking the armor with as much force as before. Unlike last time, however, there was only a sizable dent left behind. It had survived!

"Yes! it worked!," she cheered. The cheering turned into screaming when the spider attempted to approach her in what she could only assume was its attempt to congratulate her. "Oh, no no no no no, y-you stay over there! I appreciate your help, but not enough to get all touchy feely!"

There was no way she was touching, much less hugging, a spider. Leaving the spider behind, Kari made her way back up the tree to the web. At least it seemed to be more spider-free than before.

She tried again, the spider spinning more webbing for her to use, placing it on as thickly and securely as possible.

But when she told the spider to attack again, the dummy was just shredded to pieces once more.

This time the spider shredded the dummy so much, Astra couldn't even recognized what it had been in the first place.

So much for spider webbing to be the strongest materials known. It wasn't helping her much now.

Astra felt like crying again. Why wasn't this working?!

She was thinking it would be better to use something else instead...

With a sigh, Astra went back to the pile to get something else instead.
