Personality:History:A young dragon growing up alone and ignored by his family fervently wished for a friend. He wanted a companion to call his own; that he could do all the things a dragon is supposed to do with them. At first he was very picky and thought that only another dragon would be suitable as his companion and friend. One by one the other young dragons turned him down. No one wanted to be his friend.
One day while walking by a stream, he ran into a pony foal. At first he was wary and looked down his nose at the young stallion. This creature surely was not worthy of being his friend! The pony foal however greeted him warmly, catching him off guard. He found himself unwittingly drawn into the other's games. They spent the whole day together.
As the day drew to a close, he realized this is what he wanted all along. The young foal went to bid him a good night and turned to leave. He panicked. He couldn't loose his first friend! The young dragon grabbed the other foal and made off with him, forcing him to return to the dragon's home.
The other dragons might look down upon him for picking a non-dragon to claim as his friend, but he didn't care. He finally had a friend. The young dragon was confused as friend sobbed in obvious distress. The pony foal begged and pleaded to be returned to his home. He couldn't understand. How could his friend not want to stay with him? He listened as the pony foal spoke of his parents and sister who would miss him, and of others he knew. The young dragon would not give in. All night the other cried.
In the morning, he offered to bring the pony foal out to play like they had done the day before. Instead his friend turned his back and lay in a dark corner of the cave. He brought many things to distract his friend, but nothing seemed to work. His tail lashed in anger, he was offering his friendship! How could anything be better than that? He would try again tomorrow.
As the days passed, the pony foal grew thin. The young dragon stood at the entrance to his cave and started at his friend for a long time. His mind wandering back over the conversations they had had, and how the pony foal's life had been before. Slowly it dawned upon him that this was not the way. He went over to kneel by his friend and said softly he would return him to his home. The young dragon led him back to where his family was desperately searching the forest still. He faded back into the foliage as the foal's family surrounded him. Envious of what the other had.
It surprised him when the pony foal looked back of his shoulder and said, "I will meet you here in two days." The pair met many times after that.
The dragon, now an adult, rested on his ledge and contemplated his foolish youth. Now he collects friends the way some dragons collected gemstones and gold. The hardest part, he mused, was letting them go. But it was always rewarding when they returned again another day.
