all the Nia's end up blocking their own strikes - the decide to take turns, still surrounding the droid the one by one come forward and swing

This is a tricky illusion, indeed. They are all flailing about in agony! The droid activates a saber in both hands, spreads them out, and spins toward the group of girls like a top.
