Yeah, you have to beware random gifts from people you don't know, or even anonymous gifts if you have your settings to receive any.

Some people dump stolen items via gifting and it could get you a temp ban for having it until it's removed. You might even have your trades disabled, big mess.. sweatdrop

Multiple reasons I'm sure.

I've heard of people doing it trying to take other people down with them, or to try to throw hacking investigators off the scent.

Pure meanness... some people are just jerks.
