Noska of Green Feslengenth
Noska? Fes asked, interrupting her rider's contemplation of a snack. Do we need a firelizard companion?
It took the new wingrider all of three seconds to decide that, yes, they absolutely needed a firelizard, and another three minutes to fling herself out of her high-up weyr and onto Feslengenth's back, exclaiming, "Let's go!"
Straps! Fes replied. I am not going between until you are wearing them.
Noska sighed in frustration and fastened the yards of leather and metal around her dragon and herself in record time, all the while fantasizing about Impressing a baby firelizard. The mental image of a tiny golden queen perched on her shoulder was a persistent one.
Not a gold, Fes said suddenly as they took to the air. She did not explain herself, and she did not have to. Noska understood. She's inadvertently let that metallic bias creep into her thinking, and Fes was right to remind her that there was no reason whatsoever to prefer a shiny hide over a chromatic one.
Not on purpose, she amended as they made the leap between. But I'm not going to turn one away if she decides to Impress on me.
There was a rumble from the green dragon's chest which implied she might turn away any gold flit that tried to Impress to her human, but Noska didn't hear it. She was too busy peering at the sandy beach below. Figuring out where the flits were hatching was no trouble, and finding a place to land would be Fes's responsibility. Noska was instead wondering how she had forgotten to bring something to feed the baby 'lizards.
One of the other dragons says someone else brought bowls of meat, Fes reassured her rider as she brought them in for a slightly shaky landing.
OOC: Anyone who wants to talk to Noska (or Feslengenth!) as they are finding positions, please do!

Pop! Another baby hatched, pushing its way out of the egg, then rested a few minutes. Whew. That was hard work! From there, it stretched its damp wings, giving them a few experimental flaps. Each limb, including the tail, got a nice little stretch. Then the tiny beast took its time climbing calmly out of the nest, acting as if it weren’t being eaten alive by a gnawing hunger. So calmly and sedately, in fact, that it might have been frustrating for anyone nearby who’d been waiting for a flitter to come to their hand. At last, the hatchling selected a choice morsel and set upon it, taking a dainty little bite at first, then pausing to trill at the bearer of the gift.
A lizard is never late, Haveli. She arrives precisely when she means to.

Among the hatchlings there was a tiny, squalling green. A green who was currently scrambling to get to food before - oh no!- it was devoured. At first she went to a smaller human over there who - no, one of the others had eaten the food first! Then she scrabbled over a rock to find a meatroll - thwarted, again!
In piteous desperation, the starving hatchling began to chew on some seaweed. Yet the seaweed did not sate the baby's hunger, and she began to creel with a uniquely ear piercing quality. Then... wonder of wonders, she spotted it. Food! Food that was as of yet unclaimed!
Catapulting herself with all of her diminutive might, the infant firelizard flew claws extended for Grumioll's offering! So hunger! was the general feel of matters as she attached herself to the tidbit and wrapped her tail around the wrist of the boy who crouched in wait. Images of all of the dainties on offer would flood his mind as she made short work of it, and then peered up at his face to creel urgently, eyes whirling red with intense, gut churning hunger.

Honestly, Lila had been quiet, watching R'tansky and his new gold, smiling softly at the way the pair interacted. Sitting in her tiny wallow of sand, the girl hadn't expected much...and then there was a tiny brown chirruping at her. Carefully, she reached out to carefully wipe away the bit of drool under his chin, before giving him the meat, and then the sweet roll, "Hush now, it's alright." Carefully scooping him in her arms and crooning a sweet song to the tiny one. "It's alright. Let's see...what to name you..." What to name this sweet, drooling baby? "...It's alright...Bucket." It was a silly name, sure, but it meant something to the girl, who giggled at him, smooching his tiny snoot once, to get a cheep for 'more food please'. What a good Flit. |

Sharp squeaks and rustles suddenly came from one of the nests. Those close enough to look inside would see two hatchlings scuffling amongst the eggshell litter. Whether it’d been something that happened during or after hatching, one of them had definitely offended the other. They split up for a few moments, then smaller one puffed up, hissed, and pounced its sibling, knocking it into a roll. It seemed the two were out for ichor, so one helpful Big Thing separated them with a gentle nudge of a stick. That was enough to scare the living daylights out of both, and they scrambled out of the nest, darting into the crowd.
The smaller one dove into a pile of gathered shells, scattering them to the dismay of whoever’d done the collecting. In the tree up above the goings-on, its gold mother began squalling again, but didn’t take to the air this time. In its haste to find a safe place like the adult firelizard had, the baby clambered up the first tree trunk it could find… except it wasn’t a tree trunk. It was a leg!
P’tius, have mercy on this piteous baby!
The other baby was equally distressed, skittering around as if its little tail was on fire. All the Big Things were either trying to get its attention, or were quickly moving out of its way—and the sudden movement scared it even more! It zoomed to the outer edges of the crowd, finding a large green thing that appeared to its frightened newborn eyes to be some sort of tree or bush. Up it went… until it was halfway up Feslengenth’s foreleg.
Noska, better find one of those meatbowls, and quickly!

Grumioll
Gru’d remained stock still, even when the gold firelizard and her fair had been swooping and diving. For all their noise, they were harmless. Several little lizards had passed him by, attracted to more active participants, but that was fine by him. What wasn’t fine was the manner in which one finally did come to him.
His first flit had hatched gently into his hand. This chaotic little thing that launched itself at him like an attacking tunnelsnake was something ENTIRELY different. When the tiny green beast literally flew at him and latched onto him, he jerked backward, nearly rolling over. Some logical sense—like a little pinprick in his mind—made him control himself enough to not shake or rip her away from his hand. This was what he wanted, that little pinprick said.
The second thing that happened was the hunger. This he did recognize from the first time, but it didn’t stop him from shoving an entire meatroll into his own mouth, tucking it into one cheek and chewing furiously as he offered another to the firelizard. Together, they finished off a few more, and then Gru stood up, gazing with fascinated eyes only inches away from the tiny creature that slept cupped in his palms.

Keleres/Kel...Hopefully she wouldn’t forget it so easily before she could get to her journal. The woman was definitely striking with her bright red hair and makeup, if nothing else.
“Nice to...” Stormy started to say before one of the newly hatched flits darted their way. In the seconds before the green leaped, she tensed and moved to put an arm up. When the flit bounced off and kreeled pitifully on the ground, Stormy winced in apology, glanced at Keleres to gauge whether she was going for it or not, then crouched down and offered her meatroll when it seemed safe.
She had grown up around a dragon before ending up in the weyr, but Eluveth preferred to speak only to her mother. Turns in Western Weyr should have made her less startled to feel another creature’s touch in her mind. But it was one of her last private bastions left to her; she couldn’t help but twitch when she felt the green’s hungry, inquiring pokes in her head.
“I’m sorry, I don’t have more right now,” she told the green gently before reaching out to tentatively touch her head.
The flit looked pitiful for a moment more before hopping on the finger and using it to take flight again. Landing on her head, the green turned to Keleres and started the broken bird act all over again, making a nest of Stormy’s hair.

That the green flitter had leapt so decisively into Stormy’s… well… personal bubble was all the indication Kel needed that she had made her choice; it seemed the other redhead needed a little more convincing, however. The poor thing bounced off of Stormy’s arm, and Keleres’ brows knitted together, her lips pressing into a fine line of sympathetic pain.
But the dissonance between the two did not appear to last long. As Stormy bent down to feed the green and stroke her head, a soft, warm smile crept across the young Kel’s face. How… precious, really. She ought not to look or intrude upon such a moment, really... She glanced up at the warm sun, enjoying the hush of the ocean and the gentle breeze that toyed with the scrub and the forest line nearby.
It seemed to be a mere moment later that her fellow candidate expressed remorse at not having more food. Kel started suddenly. “Oh, did you... I brought extra, if you’d like?” She drew up the small pouch hanging at her side, proffering it to Stormy. There was dried meat in jerky form, and meatrolls too- plenty to go around if needed. Her smile was one of encouragement; a mask to conceal the feeling of envy that rose up in the back of her mind like a shadow. Watching the green nest in Stormy’s hair was just… well, words did no justice to the sweet, adorable scene the two of them created.
“Have you chosen a name for her?” Keleres asked, her smile still warm and welcoming.
