L'ius and Blue Tierth

They were ready for this, L'ius hadn't studied as much as he probably should have but he knew that he and Tierth could do this. It was part of being a dragonrider after all, a part of being a hero. The dark blackness of between was just another monster for the pair to face down and defeat.

Thinking clearly, L'ius sent the image of the Weavercraft Hall to Tierth and the pair disappeared only to reappear above in the air.

But maybe you felt a need to get those coordinates checked before you took the leap.

[stike]If this is your second or third roll, if your Exhaustion Level of 3 or higher is going to be reduced by one for the rest of your rolls. i.e. If you had them down as a 5, they are now feeling like a 4. All future rolls will be based on this number until you finish the game. If you had them as a 4, they are now down to a 3, and if you had them as a 3 they are now down to a 2. You are feeling mentally exhausted!

If this is your fourth or fifth roll, and you happen to have a Distraction/Intensity level of 5, your certainty of the coordinates winds up being your downfall. You didn't account for the placement of the sun and you wind up lost Between. If you have an exhaustion level of 1 or 2, you botch your coordinates due to the drain. If your Memorization/Visualization skills are 3 or less, you botch remembering the exact placement and wind up lost--unless you check your coordinates.

L'ius and Blue Tierth

The next jump was going to be easy as well...but something went wrong. As soon as they were above the minor hold he could feel Tierth suddenly start to panic. What is it? The young man reached out for his dragon who was very white eyed. We must return to the weyr...please L'iusmine...this...this isn't right.

He had never heard that panic in his dragons voice before and L'ius agreed, though the blink back between had easily shaken both dragon and rider.

L'ius and Blue Tierth

Shaken as the pair were, even as Tierth keened as he lost a cousin and a sibling, L'ius did his best to focus on the task at hand. There would be time to mourn the fallen once this was all over and they were safely home. He reassured Tierth that they would go and check upon those who needed cheering up, trying to help his dragon feel better in turn.

This time the jump went smoothly as L'ius did his all to focus his thoughts.

Betweening day. It was a strange thing, to realize you actually felt confident in your skills. F'enn had never been a very studious person, and was far more used to just flying by the seat of his pants... but Zezollath had changed his life in these last few months (had it really only been months?) She was hard working, determined, driven to be the best she could be, and while at first he'd been thrilled with being matched to someone who would do all the work for him, it hadn't taken long before he'd started to feel bad about it. She did it out of love, which was still a novelty for him, and he, of course, loved her back... and so had eventually started to get his act together to ease her burdens.

On the other hand, he'd been ready to die for quite a while before she'd come to him, and now the thought of death had lost all threat to him—for if he went, he would not go alone, and she was, of course, the only one who mattered to him. The only one he'd miss (or at least that was what he told himself, lie that it was).

Please, my F'enn, such dark thoughts... between will be dark enough for us, so... please? Just try a little, and I will do the rest, okay?

The green's request was one he could never deny, and with a sigh the young man summoned up the coordinates—under the lack of care and insolent nature, he always had a sharp mind for details—and gave them the nudge to go. And three coughs later they appeared, easy as if they were old hands, over Fishcraft Hall. See? No reason to worry, as always.

L'ius and Blue Tierth

He didn't know what happened this time. Once more they appeared over the right place and yet...something was off. Tierth began to beg, white eyed, that the pair return to the Weyr once more. L'ius was certainly happy to grant that request. Remedial lessons might be in their future, by his own wishes, if this kept happening.

L'ius and Blue Tierth

Appearing back at the Weyr, the pair was visibly shaken. L'ius stayed for a moment in the straps even after Tierth had landed. He didn't know what exactly had gone wrong but it had happened twice. He had been so sure they would handle this without any problem and yet...

Tierth's light blue hide was grayed out as he let out a soft mournful keen at the memory of his brown cousin. The loss of his blue brother Aviforth hit a bit close to home as well. His dear brother who liked to play as much as he did. Tierth leaned his head against L'ius as the young man finally dismounted.

Next stop, High Reaches Hold. Almost home, but not quite, at least as far as the name went. With a casual thought that was far less than the moment really ought to be given, F'enn summoned up the coordinates and mental picture of the place they were going, and nudged Zezollath between. And then back out, over the Hold, gliding with ease, the green shining with pride in her rider. See, my love? I knew you could do it. I knew we would be just fine. All it takes is a little step, and I can carry us the rest of the way, and I always will, I do promise.

As if allergic to praise, to approval, some gut reaction that hearkened from the days before he'd even met Zezollath, the man flinched from her kind words as he summoned up the coordinates to the next location. Instantly, intentionally, he rattled off the wrong numbers, churlishly grumbling and leaning back in his seat, as if utterly relaxed, even as he gripped the straps the tighter, sucking shallow breath, shallow breath, deep breath, ready to hold...

...Ahm. F'enn. I don't think those are the right coordinates for Nabol...

He'd expected darkness, but still they hovered in the cool, clear air high over the Hold. And as he let his to-be-held breath slip back out, he suddenly realized quite what he'd almost done, how very different a bad coordinate was from purposefully giving the wrong answer on a quiz. As soon as the shame and guilt and terror threatened to flood in, he felt the green's warm mental embrace swath him, holding him tight, already having forgiven his nearly-fatal action. Shh, shh. It's alright, my F'enn. I will check with the Weyrlingmaster Assistant just to be sure, okay? I'm sure you only forgot, that's all. It is a very stressful day, after all.

He remained silent atop her as she did so, humbly and without any shame to ask for help. So unlike himself. So much better than he could ever be. And then, with a wink, they were both gone, and moments later soaring in fresh skies over Nabol.

Talis and Blue Holleth
Grid Roll - Difficult

Talis and Holleth were fully aware of the dangers involved in this exercise, as they were with every lesson and drill they performed. From the day they had started flying, the risks had mounted up. But while they were aware, they wete not anxious; they respected and accepted the dangers, without being overconfident, and always worked to be ready to face them. And both were stoic, well-practiced at internalizing emotion and keeping it and themselces under control. It resulted in what most would read as coldness, but for them, it was just survival.

They were quiet and patient as they awaited their turn and orders...quiet, at least, until Holleth joined the keening. First for Eskharath, one of his brown brothers, and then for Aviforth, cousin and fellow blue. It was a soft, soft sound from the young dragon, but no less full of grief or shock. They had all known this was dangerous, and yet...

The loss made it different, more real. But those feelings were swallowed down, put aside for another time. There was no room for distraction right now, no matter how grave that distraction was.

Fully focused now, though still shivering with what he'd nearly done, F'enn took his time to correctly summon up the coordinates for Tillek Hold. His hands had slid from his straps to rest palms-down upon his green's neck, wanting, needing to feel her. Just a few more jumps and we'll be done, she was saying, trying her best to calm and comfort him.

But not everyone was fated to survive the day. As she flared her wings, preparing to leap, in full agreement with his coordinates this time... instead she faltered, the green paling visibly, her eyes swimming from pale yellow-green to gray and white, a keen ripping from her throat as she felt, somewhere far, farther, farthest away, the touch of one of her treasured siblings simply... vanish. In a moment she knew, knew who it was, who it had been. Zezo? What is it? What happened? He could feel her pain, her grief, and now it was his turn to comfort her.

Eskharath... it was Eskharath! No... She moaned her sorrow again, and the pair circled the Hold a while longer until she calmed enough to safely jump them to their next point. She had lost a brother, but she refused to risk losing her rider as well, even if it took longer than she wanted it to to steel her breaking hearts.

Rune of Green Saevath

From their spot, Saevath was laughing. The green was all too excited for this, and her maddened laughter was bubbling high and cold around Her rider's mind as the blonde double-checked everything. Between. She was nervous, sure...but this was something that she had prepared for. She'd not studied the way she should've, maybe, but confidence was something Rune had in leaps and bounds. She and the Green were prepared. Enough thinking! Let us GO already! Saevath's thoughts and excitement were like pins and needles under her skin, as they always were. A visualization of Fishercraft hall was pulled in to her mind, and just before the pair blinked in to the dark cold of Between, the sharp mind of Saevath reached to those she actually wanted to hear her in that moment, Even if death should take me, this will be FUN~

Thank Faranth for her confidence, because Rune felt the bite of Between's cold. Closing her eyes, the woman closed her eyes and leaned down, keeping the visualization of Fishercraft hall in her mind. It took a bit longer to get through the cold than she'd have liked, but they'd MADE it! Just over the water, Saevath snapped open her wings so that they brushed over the waves and hovered over the hall for a second, crooning excitedly, pleased with their progress. Time to go to the next destination!
