The air was thick, so horribly thick becoming a monstrous cloud all feared. Like a living thing it moved across the lands, its acidic green and gray colors swept over everything in is pass killing off most living things. What was left was taken by the fires that followed cloud. While some were lucky and managed to hide themselves from the cloud the fires were all but inescapable their mindless hunger drove them to find and consume all living things. Nothing held the fire back, not streams or rivers, they slithered across the plains and through the forest on a wicked black blood. The blood of a creature so foul it has been locked deep within the earth and its once rich red blood had been tainted to the point of darkness beyond that which evens the night sky held.

The small angeni circled high above trying not to fall into the cloud or even worse into the flames. He watched with tired eyes as his once beautiful home was destroyed. As family and friends fled across the dying grasses or fell from the sky around him. He had lost track of all things around him, of everything but avoiding the flames and clouds. His body screamed at every movement of his wings but he knew he had no choice but to keep going, if he fell he would die like all the others then all hope for those of his land would be lost.

It had been a week maybe more since the flames and clouds had disappeared far off into the distance, no longer could he see them but yet he kept himself high above where the tree line had once been. The heat from below made him imagine things at times. Everything seemed a horrid nightmare he wished he could one day wake up from. All he had left was his life and staying alive, all else had fled his mind with his family…..Did he have a family? He closed his eyes and tried to remember but the memories were gone and sudden so was the last of his strength. Eyes too tired to open even in the slightest he sighed a slow relaxing breath as he fell to the charred earth below.

He didn’t know how long it had been when he opened his eyes again, he could vaguely remember drifting in and out of sleep at times but could not recall if it had been night or day. The darkness of the cloud had affected his eyes even high above it. While his body no longer screamed at him with every movement when he stood he realized his stomach still screamed for food. Sighing wearily and thinking he would have long trek ahead of him the foal stood and looked around. A miracle, some divine creature had left a basket of food. Probably some two legger having come upon his sleeping self and thought he was dead. The local two leggers seemed to believe it a curse to see one of his kinds dead. Walking on stiff and wobbly legs he moved to the basket and fed his hunger.

Rested and full the foal headed out, he knew must find a new home a new land he could protect from an apocalypse much like the one that had ravaged his home and stolen almost everything from him. As he moved along following the path the cloud and flames had set the foal gathered things he found. Making up memories for him and saving the objects by tying them into his mane and tail.

After almost two weeks of travel he found where the flames had finally died…There on the edge of the blackness, where green grass and black earth met lay a rusty bucket and so that became the foals name.

The lone survivor on the edge of an old life leading to a new greener life, memories tied to his hair and aspirations his only drive. He was now Rust Buckets.
