“I’ve always been bad at chess.”
N sighed, his hand cradling his chin lazily as he sat crosslegged on the lake shore on Route 3, where Henrietta, Wayne and Salieri had been earlier in the day. He had taken a new approach to observing his candidates who defeated the Striaton Gym as the day went on, which was to send in his invisible Zorua to get all the details. He couldn’t bother meeting them all in one day, after all.
While they all had their quirks, what was common between them was clear: a desire to bond with their pokemon on a higher level. To N, that alone was not noble enough. A trainer with a srong bond could use their pokemon as a weapon, after all. Nothing changed unless they truly became friends.
This was something that N thought about as he moved his white knight forward on the chessboard. N was an extraordinary multitasker. Both the game and his other plans were getting full attention in his mind. “It’s a game where you have to make sacrifices to win. Isn’t that right, Zero?”
In front of him, a black pawn slid forward, seemingly moved by itself. “It’s not right for a king to sacrifice his pawns, though. I know it’s just a game. But I can’t help but think what would happen if I was to be a man playing chess in real life. The game speaks volumes about the players, after all.”
He slid his bishop over from one corner of the board, capturing the pawn in a sneak attack. On the other side of the board came an annoyed grun fron an unseen sourcet, and N dropped the pawn into a small pile of black chess pieces in the grass at his side. There was no corresponding pile for white pieces.
“I suppose I’d play the same way. It takes so long…but I don’t lose any men. Right, Zero?”
The light refracted in front of N, turning purple before outlining into a full colored Zorua. Zero, now visible, huffed and upturned her nose. N grinned lazily and leaned forward. “Come on now, friend. How will you learn to concentrate your Illusion ability through all distractions if you’re not-“
N paused, looking down at the board. All of the black pieces were still there, whereas half of the white pieces were missing. The green haired trainer examined the positions of the pieces closely, and concluded that this was impossible based on the rules of chess. Unless…
He looked down at his side. There were no black pieces. He had been capturing his own white pieces this entire time. N rose an eyebrow and smiled at Zero, who was now grinning slyly at her trainer.
“Impressive, you little cheat.”

The awkward silence never usually lasted too long. Luka's father, Gregory broke the silence with perhaps the most bizarre request he could have made. "Luka, let's have a battle. You and me. Crush against your new Pokémon. How about it then? Let's see how much you've learnt in a day."
Luka stood up and nodded, "Ok. Bring it on, Dad."
Scott shot a shocked look at his brother, "You're really going to battle Daddy?" As Luka nodded, a look of awe fell upon Scott's innocent little face. His eyes brightened immensely and he quickly followed his father and his older brother to the arena in the back garden.
Luka's mother, Zelda, came out with them and sat on one of the nearby benches with Scott, a look of pride set on her face.
Gregory pulled his signature Pokéball from his belt and laughed jovially, "Crush, come on out and let's give my son a run for his money."
The huge Carracosta landed on the ground with a thud and eyed Luka cautiously. Crush knew Luka well but it was a look to let Luka know that he was testing Luka's ability to look after and train Squirt well.
Luka breathed deeply, "Come on out, Tayla."
The Sewaddle scuttled out of her Pokéball and onto the field. A vainglorious look was plastered over her face and she shuffled in her leaf hood to make herself more comfortable for battling.
Gregory smiled, "Ah. Excellent choice, Luka. Looks like all that bookwork taught you well in Pokémon selection."
"Well, if I didn't have Squirt then my decision might have been different, but... Tayla is definitely going to be a very useful. After all, Burgh has a Leavanny and I've seen him use it masterfully in some of the Gym Battles I managed to catch."
"Well then, let's get to it. Crush, Aqua Tail."
Crush nodded and span around and slammed its tail into the ground with such force that it created a singular line of a huge wave that charged straight for Tayla.
"Tayla, String Shot to that tree and then, Razor Leaf."
Tayla nodded and zipped daintily to the tree where she sat for a moment before launching her Razor Leaf. The leaves hit Crush, but the massive level difference meant that they did very little damage at all.
"Crush, use Ancient Pow-" Gregory began to say before his wife rudely butted in.
"I will not have you destroying our garden with Ancient Power, Gregory. Use something a little more beneficial to our garden."
With a frustrated sigh, Gregory changed his order, "Crush, use Aqua Jet and then Crunch."
Launching himself in a jet of water, Crush charged towards the tree, aiming to smash his huge weight into the tiny bug to cause massive damage and then clamp his hard jaws down to finish off the fight.
Luka was seriously glad about all of the trees in the garden. It made this fight a lot simpler. "Tayla, repeat."
Tayla nodded and zipped away to another tree before launching another Razor Leaf.
"Crush, change trajectory and hit Tayla."
Crush was still in his Aqua Jet and had more than enough skill to be able to change direction mid flight. He span and fixed his targets on Tayla once again.
"Tayla, re-"
"Don't spam a tactic. That will always get you defeated, easily. While this particular tactic is working now, it only takes your opponent minimal effort to tell where you are going to go next..."
"Tayla, repeat but go back."
As Crush was about to crash into Tayla, she zipped out of the way and back to the original tree where she shot another Razor Leaf at the Carracosta.
"So, you saw that I was stalling. You're doing well, Luka. But can you stop this? Crush, Rock Slide."
Large boulders appeared out of nowhere and were flung at Tayla before Luka's mother could complain.
Luka thought for a moment before making his order, "Tayla, String Shot to each of the boulders to get up close to Crush and then Razor Leaf before leaping away."
It was a ballsy manoeuvre but Tayla pulled it off with style. She zipped elegantly and quickly through the air between each of the boulders before getting up incredibly close to Crush's face where she launched the Razor Leaf. The leaves hit, as had all the others but Crush was too much of a veteran to be bothered by a few measly Razor Leaves.
"Crush, Crunch."
As Tayla was leaping back, Crush clamped his jaws around her and that was the end of the battle. The two landed and Crush rested Tayla on the ground.
Gregory clapped with delight. "You did an excellent job, Luka. To last that long against Crush with a, say Level 15 Pokémon? That's remarkable progress and that move against the Rock Slide was phenomenal." He walked over to his son and gave him a massive bear hug before ruffling his hair. "Good job."
Putting his arms around his father, Luka smiled. "Thanks Dad."

Takamaru seen the wound he inflicted on his enemy, and for a moment he felt pretty bad, then he remembered that this had become a life and death battle since he entered the dream yard.
Tk backed up, attempting to put himself out of harms way. but as he as backing up he stumbled over some debris, he was now on his back side facing the incoming attacker, her claws shining. and his death nearing 'is this it?...' were his last thoughts as he, the purloin, and Olysea were engulfed in light.
[moments before]
Iron Hide seen it coming, Olysea was injured and some what cornered. he heard the click of the pokeball and the cry of the purloin, it was all he needed to hear to know it was his time fight again. with out a seconds moment of hesitation the small iron Pokemon jumped into the fray with a roar that was not his own. his body began to shimmer and his insides felt all squishy and squirmy, the entire area became engulfed in light, his light. he had felt this once and only once before, but at that time he was frightened of it and so Tk and there mother gave him a small round stone to stop the odd sensation coursing through his body. but today Tk had forgotten to give him the stone, but he dident mind, if it meant he could protect his trainer. And so, he embraced the feeling whole heart-idly as he evolved into a Lairon.
[back to present]
Tk was now sitting behind a strange Pokemon, he wondered why a wild Pokemon would rush to his rescue. he looked to where Iron Hide was but he was gone. the new Pokemon glanced back at him, there eyes locked and at the moment Tk knew that this Pokemon was his life long friend and partner, Iron Hide.
It dident take long to Tk to recover himself, seeing as how the new Iron Hide was able to effectively block the minor scratch attack. but before Iron Hide could attack the cat Pokemon he put his hand up to signal that he dident want that outcome.
"you should leave, were obviously done here" he said allowed, holding one of his cracked ribs as he and Iron Hide walked closer, side by side. "if you don't attack us we wont attack you." was all he had to say. Olesya could walk or fight, the choice was her's and her's alone.

"Don't you dare," Olesya began as she collapsed to her knees, her entire right side a coat of red, "start with that 'bigger man' s**t. I'm not going anywhere," she said. It wasn't stubbornness, she was already about to die. If you got an EMT team there NOW she was still going to die, probably.
She could feel her body growing colder, organs shutting down. She grit her teeth and looked at Takamaru. "You're a... deluded.... b*****d..."
Purrloin roared with ferocity and charged again, desperate attack. Claws and fangs at the ready, she aimed for Takamaru's face, and if she hit she'd dig in and that twist as she kicked away, a move that would disfigure Takamaru by tearing into his cheeks and taking a chunk of his nose.
There this boy was, standing there, like he was justified. Olesya managed a small smile. "Denial is.... killing a person... and telling yourself you had to.." Then she collapsed in a pool of her own blood.

(wow, thanks for making me a Murderer >.>)
Even though the Purloin lashed out with all her might the new Iron Hide was able the knock off the attack with a Headbutt. even though iron hide was now more powerful he took no pride in the fact, he knew, or he thought we would know how it would feel to loose ones trainer.
"ah, your probably right, hell, your probably right about every thing you've said to me. but also, at the end of the day its all just words" said the small boy after calming down. even though he never meant to kill anyone, he didn't feel any guilt for what he did. after all, they injured and killed many more life's than he did. "whats one life compared to several?......" he said as he fell backwards onto the ground, his ribs aching, his hand, now broke, the large amount of blood trickling down his forehead. "...is what i want to say, but not what feel....i guess....my head hurts...feeling...groggy..." whispered the boy as he began to loose consciousnesses. Iron Hide nudged

Robby stood over his opponent, breathing hard. A moment later, the adrenaline started wearing off. His head hurt, he was woozy, his body ached, and something was bur-... He gripped his right side and collapsed onto his already very sore back. Roast was next to him in a second.
"Roast! Heart... Attack... Help... Me... Call... Ambulance..." The ducklett looked at his hand, over his right side where the lung was. Her wing went to her forehead in a "facepalm" gesture. "nooo...." The obese lad was unconscious, his first real big exercise and adrenaline experience finally catching up with him. Roast sighed.
[Stupid guy... Just get some sleep for now.] Roast planted herself on her trainer's chest, waiting for someone to try something. Or for this chaos stuff to be over.

((I saw that there was a new post in the Character Profile thread, and I was like "Oh fun, a new per- WHO THE ******** IS USING N AS A CHARACTER PIC- Oh...nevermind. Hahhhhh))
In the time Becca spent stunned/surprised by the Spirit Pokemon's attack Avan reached his backpack -his jacket mysteriously disappearing- reached in, collected Baku's Pokeball, and returned the plump, pink pokemon to its confines; that is, just in time to see the armor-clad woman now coming after him and she was coming fast.
"Kali!" Avan called as he took a run semi-back towards the woman in a wide, round kind of motion, back to the Yamask, not wanting to leave her. The Pokemon released another NIght Shade at the woman.

((It's what I do, <.<))
The headbutt was too much for Purrloin. Purrloins were, notoriously, frail Pokemon when it came to their defenses. To take a newly evolved headbutt? It was too much, she collapsed into the land of unconsciousness.
Takamaru's fight then came to an end.

More Jewish people! Becca was suddenly paralyzed with fear by the sight and the blast knocked her backward.
Meanwhile, coming at Avan's flank before he could reach Kali was Liepard, awake and ready to Night Slash Avan's flank.

Wayne grit his teeth.
"Solosis," he said, and the pokémon glanced his way nervously. "Psywave him."
The pokémon complied hesitantly. It may just be an animal, but the pokémon understood the concept of killing and why it was bad. And even though he'd only been under Wayne's command a few days, the psychic type figured he understood Wayne's personality pretty well.
To see him like this was alien. It was even frightening when it got down to it. Hitmonlee was still watching the situation quietly, with apparent disinterest towards Chuck's fate.
Solosis nodded. Knock out. That's fine. That's not taking a life, is it? Building up his energy first, the pokémon would wait a second before releasing a powerful wave of psychic power. Suspended helpless in the air, not even his armour should be capable of protecting Chuck from Solosis' attack.
If he wouldn't speak to him, maybe if Chuck got detained by the authorities he'd crack and reveal what he knew. Wayne wasn't sure how legal everything that happened here was; was he in trouble or would it all go under self defence? After all, Chuck wasn't the one who'd nearly been crushed under an exploding ceiling.
"You're gonna spill," Wayne said as the attack was fired, "One way or another."

If trainers didn't get prosecuted for torturing wild Pokemon and leaving them to die under the guise of training then neither would Chuck, right?
Chuck grit his teeth as the psywave hit him, resisting the urge to curse loudly and in a manly manner. "You punk," he said through grit teeth as he attempted to struggle against Solosis' hold, "you can't just torture a guy cause another guy stole your s**t, lemme down!"

"Yeah," Wayne said darkly and with a grin, "I thought you'd say that, you dumb ********. What's the matter? Scared cause you've been abandoned by your pokémon? Hang on to that self-righteousness - it'll be the only thing keeping you warm when you black out."
The voice of a child ."Wayne?"
He froze. That voice, immediately recognisable, made his insides burn. Wayne looked around. Behind him. To the sides. In front of him, standing with her hands at her chest, a scared look in her eye.
"Katie, what are you-" Wayne said slowly, eyes wide as his 5 year old sister shivered, stood between the trainer and the knight.
"Why are you huwting that man?" she said with tears forming, "He din do nothin to you!"
"No, I-" Wayne took a step back, "He's the bad guy. He-"
The trainer paused, a frown forming. No wait. This had happened before. Katie wasn't here. She was at Village Bridge. In her room. Playing with that pink doll. "You're a hallucination."
"What're you tawking about Waynneee?" Katie whined, knees bending as her arms fell, "You ain't the brother I know! He'da never done this! You're the baddie, Wayne!"
Wayne's gritted teeth turned fierce as he felt fire burn inside. No! He grabbed her shoulders and she squealed. You're not REAL
"Get out of my head!" Wayne roared, the world around them gone. "Stop ******** with me and get out!" "You're hurting me-" "NOW"
Wayne dropped Katie to the floor and fell to his knees, panting. By the time he looked up, the girl was gone, his pokémon were back, the world was back. He felt sweat drip down his nose and speckle onto the walkway. The stabbing pain returned to his arm with a vengeance. A breezy pink mist floated on the air.
"God... god dammit."

(Would anyone Like some help? Kinda like surface rescue.)
Takamaru's breathing was slow and paced as he fell into the black void of an un-conscious state. Iron Hide looked around, there was no way for him to scale the walls of this underground maze with his trainer. a sense of hopelessness settled over the now larger iron pokemon.
a few moments later, while Iron Hide was still searching for away out, the ground in front of him erupted, spraying dirt every where. thinking this was a new enemy Iron Hide jumped to his un-conscious trainers side. after the dust settled Iron Hide seen that its was none other than spike, but he wasn't alone. in one of his claws he held Lancer's pokeball.
a few moments of poke-chat occurred. Spike told Iron Hide of how he barley managed to escape the attack from the sandile, and how he searched all over the under ground of the dream yard searching for him and Tk. he even recounted of how he stumbled upon the mass murrduring of the munna and Musharna from where he and Tk met the other trainer's. once there Spike wasted no time finding Lancers ball and quickening his search for Iron Hide and Tk.
Once Spike had finished telling his side, Iron Hide told Spike of his and Tk's encounter with the armored knight named olesya and how the fight ended. afterwards the two pokemon decided that they should take Tk from here and back to the surface. and so, Spike helped place Takamaru and his back pack onto iron Hides back, from there Spike dug a whole towards the surface at a step slant to which Iron Hide would ferry the un-conscious child towards the surface.
Half way to the surface Takamaru begins to stir, "we...we have to help the others..." where the words that tumbled from his mouth, the weakened boy tried to sit up on iron Hide's back but couldn't find the strength, his adrenaline rush long since ended. both Spike and Iron Hide Grunted there disprovel but obeyed. Spike leveled out the tunnel he he was digging so they could start there search. both pokemon knew that they had to finish this fast of Tk's life would be in danger from his wounds...

((@Zamaku - You can help Avan if you wish. He's fighting a losing battle to begin with ^^;;
@Trop - The jewish man thing is hilarious btw. It makes me want to just assault the woman with Night Shade ><))
Since Avan was running to where he (and the Liepard) basically were in the first place, the enemies attack wasn't exactly unseen. But like before, Avan couldn't avoid it; the opponent was to fast for the boy. Once again stumbling to avoid it, Avan tripped over his own feet and fell, the Night Slash catching his bag strap on the way down. Avan hit the ground...again. This is...insane...
Kali instantaneously rushed the Liepard as it finished it's attack, angry that the boy had been attacked again. Letting out a scream to Astonish the opponent and protect Avan.

Astonish, being a move where you yelled and attacked to try and startle the target, would require Kali to physically attack Liepard. Unless Kali was just yelling in a startling manner and pretending it was Astonish. Either way, Liepard jumped from Avan's collapsed self to Kali.
If she was attacking with Astonish, Liepard would Night Slash into it, effectively parrying whatever part of Kali was doing the attacking as well as damaging that part.
If she was just shouting like a weirdo, Liepard would Night Slash that pretty little face of hers. The one that was reminiscent to when she was alive. One might call it a blocking point, others would realize the super effective move and call it potentially scarring the last sentimental item Kali had left of her former life. Assuming she hit, of course.

((Alright, I'm trying to work the physics of this all out Let me know if I need to change this.))
While Robert did lose a bit of leverage, and power, he could at least use his current position to vault himself off of the defending man and launch himself backwards. He would roll as he hit the ground in order to prevent himself from getting hurt too much by the landing. He quickly got to his feet and took up a defensive pose.
Meanwhile, Freya and Garnet were engaging the Meinshao. While the Meinshao was charging up the Force Blast, Garnet was making her attack with an aerial Blaze Kick, coming from up and over Freya. While the Meinshao's blast would hit, the Light Screen would shield Freya from some of it. There would be little time for the Meinshao to react with its Acrobatic feat without it taking some damage in the process before it launched the Combuskin with the attack.
Despite all of this, there was the one move the Meinshao didn't seem to notice, based on what was happening before: the Future Sight attack that the Gardevoir Beatrix sent out while Freya and Garnet were engaging the Meinshao. The Psychic energy would strike at the Meinshao from directly beneath it as it landed, striking like a lightning bolt of psychic energy. Whether it hit or not depended on whether the Meinshao truly did or didn't notice the subtle attack when she was attacking Freya and Garnet.
Both of Robert's fighting Pokemon were headed for Beatrix, but Beatrix threw up a Psychic attack to catch them both and gently lower them to the ground beside her. If this fight went on for much longer, they'd all be in trouble. Beatrix launched a combination attack on the Meinshao, but this wasn't the kind of attack that could cause any damage or had much chance of avoiding. The first attack was Destiny Bond, which would tie the Meinshao's life energy to that of the Gardevoir's. This would then be followed up by Mean Look, which would prevent the Meinshao from being recalled or otherwise escaping the fight.
Granet and Freya got to their feet and took up defensive positions. Freya was in the worse shape in comparison to Garnet, due to her steel typing making her weaker to fighting type attacks. They would shield themselves and Beatrix as the Gardevoir set up this maneuver. If need be, they would resort to using Detect (Freya) and Protect (Garnet).
Robert stood up and took up a defensive stance. His offense had for the most part failed, so it was time to try something a bit more defensive and counteracting.
