Malum was curled up on the bed, apparently oblivious to what was going on. But he tracked Aisenma’s progress across the room, listening to her footsteps and her small whimper; a twisted knot of annoyance in his stomach. Eggs were not apart of his life. His family members popped them out; he knew there were babies in the castle, in a special area he never ventured to. Never did those little ones cross his path. One night of pleasure and now these three objects were in his room. Curse the meddlesome gods. Malum stared at the wall, growling softly under his breath. Maybe he could destroy them? That idea slowly forming Malum sat up, looking across at Aisenma, where she sat cradling the eggs.

Their eggs. There was a piece of himself in there and a piece of Aisenma. Malum’s deep, dark eyes glared at Aisenma accusingly, as if this was all her fault. A snarl bubbled up and his wicked gaze slid down to the three eggs. For a long time he sat, slightly hunched over, his messy white hair half obscuring his face. His body was taut, ready to pounce at any second. Time passed in utter stillness. Then the demon let out a breath and relaxed his body, looking away towards the window. If they became an annoyance, he would get rid of them later. They had his blood... they were... family. He could not kill them. But maybe Grandmother would take care of them.

As Malum rolled over sitting up, looking to her, Aisenma tensed, slowly backing herself up into the corner, cradling the eggs carefully, ready to take off at any moment, the need to run messing with her already fragile psyche. She knew she could find her way out and she knew she could keep herself hidden, he would never find her or the children if she wanted.

She blinked in fear, taking a shaky breath as he stared accusingly at her then growled. She twitched in her need to run, pulling the eggs up to her chest. These were hers now, and no matter how irrational that thought may have been to her 5 minutes ago, she was attached to these eggs. They were the family she had needed and she wouldn't let Malum, no matter how much fun he could be, take them away from her.

As Malum relaxed, Aisenma started to uncurl from about the eggs. She blinked at Malum, eyes still wide like a deer caught in headlights, and the flight instinct changed. Now if he were to attack she would be just as vicious as always. She moved towards the bed again, eggs still pressed just beneath her breasts.

"What now?" Her voice was steady, an icy chill, that cooled the air. "Should... I leave?" She took another step towards the bed, slowly lowering herself to sit on the edge of it.

The fear in her eyes annoyed him. The care she was already giving to these eggs, a mother’s natural instinct, made him want to attack... just to see what would happen; to see if she would run from him and if she could escape from his home, cradling three eggs. Of course, he might find himself out numbered in the end. He knew that his family would want to protect the eggs too. To them offspring were important, they kept the bloodline going and were meant to be protected. But that first moment of anger was over for him. He had accepted the presence of the eggs. Malum would simply deal with being there.

Leave? “No!” His voice came out in a harsh bark. “You will stay. And so...” He glanced down at the eggs and then back up at her face. “... will they.” If it made her happy to keep them he would allow it. Aisenma was more important than the three annoyances; he wouldn’t jeopardize having her by his side by destroying their combined blood. “Come here.” He reached out for her, watching her face carefully, his own expression fierce yet oddly tender.

Aisenma let out a soft sigh at Malum's almost possessive sounding 'no', the sigh completely in audible, only the eggs knowing the truth, feeling the heave of her chest. Aisenma relaxed against the bed slowly, as Malum demand her by his side, tentatively crawling towards him. She still had the same grace and fluidness she always had, even with her arms filled with eggs, her tail flickering behind her playfully.

A foot from Malum she placed the eggs behind her, giving each a gentle, quick hidden stroke before looking back to Malum and closing the distance to him, lying on her stomach, looking up to his covered face. Behind her, her tail wrapped about the eggs, careful not to stabbed any with her tail spikes.

She starred up into Malum's cool eyes and blinked, pulling a piece of her white hair and curling it about. "You called?"

Malum’s eyes narrowed, watching as she twirled a piece of her hair around. Then his hand snapped out, grabbing her wrist and pulling her forcefully to him. He wanted her to think of him first and not the eggs. He knew that he would resent what Aisenma felt for her children, whereas he could be considered a passing need or desire. She would leave him behind when there was nothing left between them, but she wouldn’t leave them behind. Malum could already read that in her face.

If he possessed those eggs, if they were his as well, then she would not be able to leave. She would remain with her offspring and thus with him. They would be a security; a part of her that she would never leave behind. A piece he could carry with him always. Malum’s mind moved through its twisted logic, coming to a conclusion as he pressed her against his chest and growled possessively down at her.

“We will keep them... and raise them to have our strength; in my cave, in my forest. They will grow. But I am first. Your attention is mine first. You belong to me and so do they.”

Aisenma's let loose a bark of pain as Malum snatched up her semi damaged arm, wanting to rub at her shoulder. Her eyes began to wander from his face wanting to look down to her eggs to make sure they were OK but she decided that Malum was more important. The eggs could take a kick to the wall, they would be fine now. She watched as his mouth moved and words came out and she growled snapping her teeth together, as if she were cold.

As he finished his thoughts and how things would work for their future, Aisenma reached out a hand, brushing aside his white hair and stroking his cheek softly.

"You have always been my first thought, in everything, they won't change this." She referred to the eggs. "Nothing could change that. You are my home." She blinked up at him and twisted her wrist, trying to break his iron tight grip so she could move around more free. She pressed her body to his and pulled the eggs closer with her tail.

"They don't make you happy though, do they?"

Rad'ira awoke that morning feeling restless. Something in the house was different, but she couldn't quite discern what was amiss. She stretched lazily on her bed, not really wanting to get up yet but suddenly she heard a THUMP in the unmistakable direction of Malum's room. She arched a brow and listened more intently, holding her breath to hear everything she could through the thick walls. It seemed she heard some scuffing but she couldn't be certain. She leaped from her bed silently and slipped out of her room and into the shadows of the hallway.

Her heart was pounding in her ears as the adrenaline built. She'd never met her half brother Malum before, but she had heard so much through the rest of the family. She took a deep breath as she reached his door and listened. She didn't want to show the powerful male any weakness so she gathered her courage and pounded on the door and called out.

"Brother! So good of you to grace these halls with your presence! A rare treat indeed! Mother will be pleased!"

Before Ranoll could utter a word a clearing of the throat was heard just behind him. He turns to see Churel, his mother, standing there with a wide grin. "Yes, Ranoll are you planning on inviting the lady in?" She winks at him playfully and brushes past him completely, taking Velvet by the shoulders and holding her at arm's length. "My, my aren't you a pretty thing! Come in, come in!" Churel loops her arm into Velvet's and then loops the other into Ranolls and leads the two into the house. "What's your name, dear? And how long are you staying?" Churel couldn't hide her hopes that this girl would turn out for Ranoll much better than his father had turned out for her.

"Mother...." Ranoll growled as she dragged the two inside. He sighed and allowed his mother her fun, however, knowing full when the heartache his own father had caused her. He had no intention of letting this female go anytime soon anyways and she'd have to meet his mom at some point. She'd have to meet a host of demons by the time his family was done with her. He hoped Velvet wouldn't get too intimidated by some of the more intense members of his family. "She'll stay as long as she likes," he answers, smiling at Velvet. "I've welcomed her here."

Velvet’s demeanor changes slightly as the female steps into the light. She straightens up and instantly snaps back to the formal demon that Ranoll had first met. She clasps her hands together behind her back, looking into the older demons face as she is inspected. The woman talked so quickly! Twice she opened her mouth to answer a question, and twice she was talked over. She hid her irritation well, then Ranoll spoke, and everything made sense. Of course! This was his mother! Relief washed over her, quickly followed by worry. His mother? She was barely familiar with Ranoll himself and already she was meeting his mother. Still, the thought thrilled her. Secretly, she was falling in love with the demon, and part of her felt this was one step closer to the two of them being together, forever. She smiled at the though. It was silly, childish, a dream, but it made her happy, and that was a rare thing for her. She glances up to Ranoll, then turns to speak to his mother. “Well, I’ll certainly stay as long as I’m able to, but you can never tell how things will change from day to day. Although, I do hope to not have to leave too soon.” she looks again to Ranoll, even in the presence of his mother she found it hard to take her eyes off him. She sighs quietly and then smiles to the demon on her arm. “My name is Velvet. Ranoll found me when I was lost not too long ago… And what shall I call you, Madam?”

Churel noted the way Velvet looked at her son and concealed her smile. She was proud of Ranoll to have found such a lovely female to pay him such attention and a bit of the guilt she felt over losing his father's affection was lifted from her. Her boys seemed to be just fine without their father. She calmed herself, feeling that she was putting the girl off with her excitement. Churel turned her gaze on Ranoll. "She is indeed welcome here," she said softly. She leaned in and gave Ranoll a kiss on the cheek. "There will be a room prepared for her next to yours." She flashed a smile to Velvet, then leaned in to whisper to Ranoll, "Her room will be beside Malum's. Be sure to warn her not to wander those halls without you until she's been introduced." She drew back and gestured for the pair to follow her.

Ranoll caught every glance Velvet threw his way and returned them happily. Even before his mother he couldn't help but fawn over the female that had wandered into his life. He stroked the back of her arm gently as he listened to Churel welcome her wholeheartedly. He allowed Churel to kiss him with the stoic acceptance of a proud son. He nodded solemnly as she gave him a warning about his brother. Of his two brothers, Ranoll was closer with Malum in an odd sort of way. The two seemed to have an understanding about each other and though Malum was less than welcoming to anyone, Ranoll had been secreting a desire for him to meet and approve of Velvet. He concealed his thoughts and gave Velvet a broad smile and took her by the arm as Churel lead them upstairs.

Make him happy? How ridiculous. To be stuck with unwanted progeny was not something to bring him any happiness, an emotion near impossible for him feel at the best of times. “No, they don’t.” Malum answered bluntly. But these eggs might one day be useful. He had already decided that. The demon ran a claw along Aisenma’s back, leaning forward slightly so he could get a glimpse at the three items her tail was protectively wrapped around. At least with her pressed against him he was mollified. His paw came up to trail through her white hair, his gaze flicking back to her face.

The sudden pounding at the doors caused Malum’s head to jerk up and his muscles to tense. He let out a deep snarl that dropped away into a growl and the nothingness when a voice called out. The demon’s head tilted to the side almost quizzically as his mind worked out who had the stupidity to nearly break down his door. He was almost too wary to even think about opening the door. It was an odd situation; having Aisenma there and also the three eggs. The possessive part of him was not willing to share right now.

But this was family; even if he hadn’t met her. So, she had called him brother. Tsk. Whenever he came home he always had a new cousin or sibling. Their names he mostly didn’t know. That information was unimportant. You didn’t need to know what somebody was called in order to protect them. Moving slowly from the bed, and giving Aisenma a ‘stay right there’ glare, he stalked over to the door.

Opening the door, he stood blocking the doorway. He would have cut a rather impressive figure, and also a rather battered one. There was a nasty scar across his belly and his body was covered in bloody scratches. It was perhaps fortunate she couldn’t see the back, where there was even worse damage. He leaned forward slightly, staring at her past his lank, white hair. “What do you want?”

Aisenma shrugged as he admitted how he felt for the eggs, she understood why he didn't care for them. He had no connection to them except for her. She cared for them, thus, he would put up with them, for a short time at least. She smiled, but that was all she needed. Him to at least put up with their children until they could take care of themselves. She would stop caring about them as soon as they were old enough to fend for themselves. She rest her face in his warmth taking a deep happy breath, closing her eyes as if to rest before the door began to rattle as if it would explode inwards.

Aisenma's head snapped up and she grabbed for Malum to press herself tighter to him but he had already slipped from the bed. She blinked up to him as he gave her one last look. She gave a quick nod to his demand for her to stay put and then sat up placing the eggs between her legs, pulling Malum's blankets over her lap and hiding her precious eggs. She waited patiently, very quietly for the 'visitor' to leave. If Malum didn't want them knowing she was her, she wouldn't bring attention to herself.

Rad'ira couldn't help but feel intimidated by her older half-brother but she refused to show it. She felt exposed without her sisters at her flanks, but she was confident that the worst Malum would do to her was send her away. She studied him intently for a moment before answering him. "I heard some noises coming from your room. It's so rare that you're here; I wanted to be sure it was you and not some hapless fool invading your space. It's a bit of a pity that it wasn't the latter. I would have enjoyed punishing whatever creature it might have been." She flashed him a lopsided grin. She wasn't surprised to find him in terrible disrepair, but she felt it none of her business to inquire. He had come home to heal, apparently. "Your mother is married, did you know," she asked softly. She didn't expect him to care, but felt compelled to tell him anyway. "You have three sisters by him. I know this family is difficult to keep track of. My name is Rad'ira." She was intensely curious about her mysterious and powerful brother and her eyes began to wander as she tried to peer into the room.

She began to frown softly. Her question had been ignored. But, then again, the demon was so very animated and seemed to jump from one subject to the next quickly. This most likely wasn’t unusual for her. She held on to Ranoll’s arm, laying her head against his shoulder as they walked. She was here at his side again, that was the important part. She began to wander as they walked. She wondered who Malum was and if he would be anything like Ranoll. She was sure she would find out soon enough.

((lol oops I totally forgot to put Churel's introduction in there. Totally meant to XD oh well! Scatter-brained me!))

Churel took them up a large and winding staircase, telling them random tidbits about the house and the family. There were pictures of every member of the family all along the walls and Churel paused before one of them. The demon pictured was elegant and lovely, but with white eyes that could freeze ice. "This is my mother, Adonnenniel. She is the head of this house and our family. She lived here when she was young. The house was full of demons and it was quite the force to be reckoned with. One day, sickness overtook them and Adonnenniel fled. As far as we know, only she and her older sister Sabrina survived." Sadness clouded Churel's face. "But the family is rebuilding," she said as her face brightened. "And we will stronger than ever before." She patted Velvet on the head like a doting mother, already taking a shine to beautiful demon. "And you may call me Churel, my dear."

Ranoll gazed at all the pictures of his family as he did each time he ascended these stairs, thinking about the demons beyond the portraits. The pictures showed them in their glory, looking fierce and dangerous, but to Ranoll it seemed silly to have such portraits in the house. Only the family and guests of the family were ever allowed in the house, so why show such fierce pictures here? A reminder to be strong, he guessed. He looked up at his own picture beside his two brothers and wondered as he often did how he measured up besides them to the rest of the family. He shook his head. It didn't matter. All that mattered was how he measured up to the female on his arm, whom he smiled warmly at. He ignored the rest of what his mother said to them as they reached the top and turned left down a long hallway. There were many halls that lead down dark and mysterious corridors, and one could easily get lost without an escort. Ranoll allowed his mother to lead them to the rooms reserved for her children. They stopped in front of Ranoll's door and Churel gestured to one just across the hall which would be Velvet's.

PostPosted: Fri Jul 11, 2008 11:56 pm
She gazed intently at the portraits along the stairway. Each one gazed back at her, some with menace, other with disgust. Here and there she could see traits that reminded her of Ranoll, and this brought back to her a sadness at the loss of her own family. She smiled as Churel patted her head and looked again to Ranoll. Perhaps she could make her own family and finally leave the scorched memories of her past behind. She reached up and touched his cheek lightly, smoothing down a few stray strands of his white hair. Then begins to follow Churel again at his side. Looking to the door Churel indicated, she gave a small curtsey of thanks to the older demon, then turned and opened the door to step inside. The room was quite immaculate when compared to what Velvet was used to, and she fell in love with it at once. She rushed over to the window to see the view and saw there was a small balcony there. She turns back to the older demon and smiles. “Thank you very much, Churel. The room is lovely. Thank you for letting me stay.” she again found her way to Ranoll’s side and took his hand. Yes, she would make her own family here.

Malum’s gaze narrowed dangerously as Rad’ira began to, in his opinion, babble about nothing. He had no desire to get to know his half-sister. The last half-sisters he had met had been lucky he was only a deranged child at the time. On occasion he had been tempted to seek out his father’s spawn and get rid of them, simply because they annoyed him on a deep level that he did not understand and had no desire to try understand. They were weak and did not deserve to live.

Rad’ira would be spared that level of his anger. Clearly she was worthy of being in this house, having their mothers blood. Malum said not a word as the information was given over that not only did he have this sister, but two others, a product from his mother’s marriage. Hm. How did he feel about that? The demon moved to the side to block Rad’ira prying gaze, shoving away all other thoughts. Churel could do as she pleased of course. Though this male she had married had better keep his distance.

“Rad’ira….” He said her name softly and then... “… go away!” His last words came out loud and harsh, an annoyed order as he quickly stepped back and went to slam the door in her face.
