1-10. You don't know exactly what happened, but somehow you have wound up tangled up in a fishing net, out in the middle of the ocean. You thrash around and try hard to free yourself, but all you wind up doing is breathing in the salt-water. Thankfully, you're fished out by your fellows, untangled from the net, and dragged back to shore. Outside of being a little traumatized, roll a D4 to see what the results of your poor fishing happened to be!

Quote:
3.You are feeling miserable. Your nose stings, you're nauseous from drinking up so much salt water, and you're a bit cut up from the hooks. To make it worse, you've lost the net in its entirety, and now need to go to the infirmary to get the hooks removed and ensure they don't get infected. Blargh. What a day. [-15 points]

It wasn't the indignity of falling into the water that upset him most. It wasn't even being informed that he'd lost the Weyr a net and that was costly. It was having to have healers pull hooks out of his skin. In the middle of an ocean, even tangled in a net, one would think he could manage to miss spearing himself on a hook.

You're fishing with a pole today, standing on the small floating dock.
You see the bobber go under, and pull up hard. Sure enough, there's a whopper at the end of the line. It's a fight, and you can tell you've snagged the largest packtail you've ever seen. Unfortunately you yank too hard and the line snaps. Not only is your pole now useless, but the big one gets away.
Worse, your fishing luck the rest of the sevenday seems to follow suit... You wind up with a whole lot of nothin'. -10 points

Oh! Oh! Look! Seuafaith had been told several times to not thrash so much, less he hinder more than he help, but he'd been so excited to see the bobber move he'd almost rolled his rider altogether. "Enough, I see it." T'shim sternly pushed a hand against his dragon's face as he jerked his pole to try and reel in whatever it was on the other end.

It struggled, however, and Seuafaith decided he was going to help to- "Stop!" T'shim all but ordered, but the bronze all but bucked his rider off and as T'shim went toppling into the water the line gave.

Awwww! It got away! Why'd you fall off? I was helping! Seuafaith asked, holding still so T'shim could climb back on and inspect his now broken pole.

It was going to be a week of it, wasn't it?

A dragon (your dragon maybe?) becomes a floating platform. He or she takes you (and his or her rider if it's not yours) a little bit further from shore. They mus have been lucky because you wind up catching quite a haul! Some yellowgills, redfins, and a rare green shellback are all brought in to be salted, boiled, smoked, and dried. Tasty! +10 points

Atarith felt the whole thing was a bit degrading - not so much the swimming and being a floating platform and the like. If it had been their idea to go fishing he'd have perhaps questioned it a bit but gone along with L'sil's idea. But no. This was a chore and while he knew why they were doing it, Atarith felt a few biting words perhaps needed to be passed the way of the Lord Holders who were shirking them.

Enough. L'sil was sharp and nipped the complaining in the bud. Fishing wasn't demeaning work in the least, even if he agreed with Atarith on the root of it all. But they took care of their own first and they could think out the problems later. That is why I like you, Atarith hummed knowingly.

They'd at least do it well if they had to do it.

If you are a rider, take your two highest stats. Whatever the total is, add those to the points you earn! (i.e. 8 + 2 = 10... so you get an extra 10 points to whatever you rolled above!)

cassali was exhausted, but it was the sort of bone-deep weariness that felt very well-earned. She'd been eager to head out toward deeper waters with a group of fellow riders, searching for the big shadows lurking under the waves.

And they'd found one.

Catching it and -- more importantly -- keeping it had by no means been easy, but no one had been badly injured or drowned. They were all soaked throuh, smelled of seawater and there undoubtedly going to be sore joints and muscles soon, but they would be worth it. They Weyr would benefit and they would have a story worth telling.

Time to go home.

K'bet and Blue Rubiginth

There. There! Theretheretheretheretheretherethere! Rubiginth flew low over the water, showing his rider the best place to drop the net. K'bet did so, too surprised to engage in his usual flailing, and he was treated to a happy honk from his blue.

We got them! They're kind of small, but you humans have really tiny mouths. We'll be the heroes of Western!

Not quite, but it did feel good to help.

Wyllig and Blue Luteth

It hadn't taken much to convince Luteth to hold the other end of her net, and things had been working out just dandy until a rather impressive wave knocked them both off of their feet. Wyllig coughed and sputtered until her blue hurried over to drag her out, and for a few minutes she did nothing more than sprawl across his back and breathe. They were going to have to do better than this if they wanted the weyr to stablize.

Worse, your fishing luck the rest of the sevenday seems to follow suit... You wind up with a whole lot of nothin'. -10 points)

Are you going fishing now? The green peered down at her rider carrying an odd looking pole towards a dock. That doesn't look very stable if you ask me. Should I swim out with you? Or you could stand on my shoulders and fish.

Rinis smiled at her green and laughed. "Yes, we're suppose to be helping supplement the weyr right now." She shook her head. "While I appreciate the thought, I think you might scare the fish away. Plus I wouldn't want to accidently hook you. Although I'm sure you'd be the biggest fish ever." Or I could be the one that got away! The pair had a good laugh over that.

Leaving her dragon to curl up on the sands, she made her way out towards the small floating dock. It didn't take long to get set up and settle down to wait. There could be worst ways to spend some time than out in the sun and fresh air. It wasn't long before she had big sized fish on the line. Rinis gave a hard yank, hoping to reel it in, only to have her line snap. Well shaft it all! You aren't the only big one that got away Galensith

Roll: 6 1-10. You don't know exactly what happened, but somehow you have wound up tangled up in a fishing net, out in the middle of the ocean. Thankfully, you're fished out by your fellows, untangled from the net, and dragged back to shore. 2. Your net was torn badly, and is now unusable. Any fish that might have been in the net are long gone, and you're not returning with a net loss of... a net lost! Not only that, but your nose burns, and you're not feeling too great thanks to your half-drown experience. Blegh. Better report the lost net. [-10 points]

He was a orchard worker. Not a sharding fisher! Omurn glared at the net he'd been given. His flits seemed interested in the whole concept, but mainly for the results. He'd been given a few pointers then shoved out onto a boat in the middle of the flipping ocean. It wasn't long before he found himself tangled in the net and toppled overboard into the ocean. His trio of blues raised enough fuss that he was promptly fished from the waters after he'd only inhaled a little bit of water.

Once back on shore, Omurn realized his net wasn't qualified for fish his size. He sighed and headed back to report the loss of the net.
