Akila smiled and cuddled into his chest, and after a moment of thinking, took his hand and placed it over her heart. It was his and his alone. She met his eyes hoping that he knew what she meant.

The tiger that shouldn't be....is....

Markus smiled softly at the gesture. He understood it. He turned his hand underneath Akila's, catching hers. He led it to rest over his own heart. "Always has been yours. For years now." He admitted in a shy whisper.

The tiger that should be....isn't....

Akila felt her heart swell and she looked through his expression for any sign that he was lying. Nothing. She wrapped her arms around him and suddenly tears were sliding down her cheeks. Finally. Finally she was getting her storybook ending...kind of. It was nowhere near the end, she knew. She didn't sob and embarrassedly she wiped the tears away.

The tiger that shouldn't be....is....

Markus held her close, gently wiping away the tears. "Hey, hey now. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to make you cry." He said, worried he'd said the wrong thing. He wasn't sure why she was crying.

Akila smiled widely and shook her head, before raising herself to kiss him again. She chewed her lip when she pulled away, though. She didn't know how to ask him what she wanted. How does one go about asking the other to be their mate?

The tiger that shouldn't be....is....

Markus relaxed as he realized she wasn't upset. He lay next to her, cuddling Akila close. He was content to just hold her, knowing her heart belong to him. Her body wasn't nearly as important as her heart. Seeing her chew her lip though, he cocked his head to the side. "Something wrong?"

Akila Shook her head no, and then yes, and then she bit her lip. She missed her voice. Paper would come in handy now, too, but she was much too comfortable there with Markus. Suddenly she got an idea. She touched his lips and then a spot on her shoulder. Many creatures marked their mates as a way of saying they were taken. She didn't know if birds did it, but nekos did.

The tiger that shouldn't be....is....

Markus looked confused for a minute, then understanding dawned in his eyes. "Mates?" He asked, to clarify that he was guessing. "You're asking if we can be mates?"

The tiger that should be....isn't....

Akila blushed, but nodded. That was exactly what she was asking.

The tiger that shouldn't be....is....

Markus actually blushed at that. He nuzzled Akila. "Of course I will. I'd be honored to be your mate." He pulled back to give her a shy smile. "There's no one else I'd rather have."

Akila smiled so widely her lips could have split, and curled against him happily. She excitedly kissed his cheek, and wrapped her arms around him.

The tiger that shouldn't be....is....

Markus smiled, glad that he could make Akila happy. He settled down against her, holding her close. He kissed her neck lightly.

Akila purred lightly, closing her eyes and enjoying his touch. Her mate. He would be her mate. Ah, to hell with her restrictions. She'd never wanted him more.

The tiger that shouldn't be....is....

Markus caressed Akila's body, respecting her restrictions. He was content to just lay with her for now, knowing she would be his mate when she was ready. Until then, he would be content to hold her and wait.

Akila took him in with her senses, keeping her eyes closed. Without seeming to think about it, she slid one of her hands into his and sighed like she might fall asleep. She was nervous, though, that Clorogne might take her before she could mate with Markus. He'd tried before, and despite his growing love for Aleera, she was well aware that humans often took more than one mate....or...She reached up to touch her throat in thought, or what if the next time she didn't live. She'd never be able to...
She held herself close to him.
