Aleera chuckled. "You should see his shoulder. Must hurt like hell. It's all red and sore looking, and that's not even counting how bad the wound itself is."

Akila giggled into her hand, before clapping a little to show her pleasure in this fact. Maybe if she was lucky, he'd die of infection.

The tiger that shouldn't be....is....

Aleera let her have her happiness. After some time though, she spoke softly. "I think I might have a way out of your death sentence."

The tiger that should be....isn't....

Akila tilted her head to the side. How was that possible?

Aleera took a deep breath and shifted. In a second, before Akila stood........Akila. Aleera had shifted into a perfect mockery of her. "I can take your place." She said quietly.

Akila blinked. That was genius! ...but wasn't Aleera expected to attend the hanging with Clorogne? She looked around before writing her question on a piece of paper on her desk.

Aleera shook her head, guessing at what Akila's question was. "I never attend the executions. I hate watching them." She said simply. "It wouldn't be odd for me to not be there."

Akila's eyes squinted a little mouthing 'oooooohhhhh' and nodded slowly as she did so.. She climbed up onto the bed and crossed her legs. And then she could go hideout at the rebelion hideout.

Aleera shifted back to her true form. "And we both know Markus would be willing to take you in and hide you." She finished with a nod. "You'll be safe there. Markus won't let anything happen to you." She said with a small smile.

Akila nodded, knowing Aleera was right, before writing, ' but I'm a secret.' the others didn't know about her.

The tiger that shouldn't be....is....

Aleera looked at the writing, considering it. Suddenly she nodded. "I think I know why. You're too close to the king. People would suspect you of betraying them. But if you're "killed" for being part of the rebels, then you can't go back to the king and you already proved that you want to help them. You should be okay to stay with them."

Akila nodded, writing, 'and won't they be suspicious if 'my' body disappears?'

Aleera frowned, biting her lip. Hm. That could be a problem. "If I can convince Clorogne to bury the body, then that's not a problem. I change change into a mole or something and burrow my way out. Then your "body" is still hidden with no one the wiser."

Akila nodded, and looked out the window. 2 more days, then.

Aleera let Akila out of the closet whenever she could, feeling bad for the girl. When the morning of the execution came, she opened the closet door one last time. She smiled wanly at the girl. 'Well, let's get this over with." She said, helping Akila out. She shifted to a perfect copy and slid into the closet. "Lock the door then get out of here." She'd already told Clorogne she wouldn't be there, that she would leave early in the morning and return later, after the execution.
