Hi I'm new which is nifty and what not but i have a really good idea

I want a roleplay about Vampires that isn't idolizing them, something that twists this idea of a beautiful immortal human into a monster, grotesque deformed and animalistic. If I see another Vampire Mansion Romance thread I'm going to explode.

Kahena: If I made my Anne Rice-based vampire RP, it definitely would not be a romance RP.

I was thinking that if you wanted to play a twisted, evil vampire, you could. If you wanted to play a rather cuddly (if vampires can be cuddly) vampire, you could. It's all up to what kind of personality your character has; it definitely wouldn't be restricted to just one kind of personality for all the players we had.

I think I should make that Anne Rice esque one, now... I would definitely encourage people to play grotesque monster-like vampires! That would make it all the more interesting.

Hmm, I wouldn't mind joining an Anne Rice-esque rp.

Though personally I would like to see a few fanbased maybe. I would make one myself, but I'm only able to come up with strange ideas that would require a lot of people to join. >.< But I'm trying.

In response to the request for a fantasy-type rp that isn't about Vampires and stuff... I have been mulling over starting an elements-based rp that was like... Sort of medieval fantasy-esque. It would be like each element would actually be a kingdom with its own unique creatures. For example, light could be angels or something, earth could be like elves, darkness could be demons (or vampires even), water could be mermaids, et c. At one point during my summer job I had an entire in-depth world layout with backstories on each kingdom (I had a lot of time to think >_>; )... If anyone would be interested in that type of thing, I could see if I could bring back the plot bunny xD

Well my favorite one would be final fantasy VII. But I'm not really sure, I know a bit of different fanbases so as far as that goes I open to pretty much anything. It couldn't be to obscure as most people wouldn't have heard of it. I wouldn't mind see Bleach either. But again they're only things I'd like to see.

Ok, I'm fairly new here; however, I'm currently working on an RP. I was wondering if anyone here would be interested. So this is the information for my RP as it stands so far.... yes I am aware its a heck of lot of reading. sweatdrop I'm sorry for that.

Thanks for looking.... heart

"The Game of Chess is not merely an idle amusement; several very valuable qualities of the mind, useful in the course of human life, are to be acquired and strengthened by it, so as to become habits ready on all occasions; for life is a kind of Chess, in which we have often points to gain, and competitors or adversaries to contend with, and in which there is a vast variety of good and ill events, that are, in some degree, the effect of prudence, or the want of it. By playing at Chess then, we may learn: 1st, Foresight, which looks a little into futurity, and considers the consequences that may attend an action ... 2nd, Circumspection, which surveys the whole Chess-board, or scene of action: - the relation of the several Pieces, and their situations; ... 3rd, Caution, not to make our moves too hastily...."

Article 'The Morals of Chess'
by Benjamin Franklin

(Footnote #1 Accessed 2/02/07)

Together we sit down to play
The Game of Kings will make our day
The harmony of black and white
Will bring our chaos into sight

Story:

In a futuristic world where the rich get richer and the poor get poorer a war continues to rage. This war as gone of for years, has flattened entire cities and sent races and cultures spiralling into being nothing more that a mark on the page of a history book. Survival is vital but a near impossibility. The war rages in ever corner of the world, and in some places even the reason has been forgotten. The Rebels and Gangs of the world fight for what was once called human rights and their opposition fights to oppress humanity into a monotone existence. These are called the World Guardians.

However what they don’t know is that the war is a falsity. Set up by entrepreneurs, for their mere amusement. The people you see fighting around you are like pieces on a chess board, so many of them are disposable its not funny. The innocents are disposable, mothers, children, families you name it, everyone is marked for death. Somewhere in these dark times there are flickers of elite warriors, those who spark passion in their fellow man to fight. These are the instruments of a much bigger plan; often so conditioned they will follow only one path. The whole world has become a Morden day colosseum and the only people know are those that are being played, and those who are their masters. The rich have created a game to amuse themselves, a game that will see the death of many others ... even yours ...

With tack and grace the Queen was escorted on her way
A nod and a wave send a Bishop off to Pray
"Check" was all that was said
And someone else ended up dead

Terminology:

’The Game of Kings’:

This is the name commonly given to the Game which is played by the elite of The Rich upper Classes. The Game itself is simple enough to understand. It is a Game of Chess. Two Players will sit down to a Game of Chess; each Player owns their own set, either a Black Set or a White Set (the colour of a Set is the choice of the Player). While they play against each other there are real people, called Pieces who are acting out this chess Game in real life and real time, creating a real war. It is this version of chess (the one using real people) which is referred to as ‘The Game of Kings’

A Set:

The idea of a Set refers to two things, the first being the Set that a Player carries with them. This Set contains sixteen pieces (half a traditional Chess set) which consist of one King, one Queen, two Bishops, two Knights, two Rooks and 8 Pawns. All of which are in a Player’s chosen colour, so either Black or White; and in the case of ‘The Hidden Player’s Set (also called the Blood Set), crimson red.

The second thing the idea of a Set referrers to is the Set of Pieces (the real people which The Rich own and use for ‘The Game of Kings’). This Set only contains fifteen Pieces (or people) who portray the traditional Pieces on the Chess board as Ranks. A Set for the Game of Kings contains fifteen Pieces broken down into the following ranks and quantities. One ‘Queen’, two ‘Bishops’, two ‘Knights’, two ‘Rooks’ and eight ‘Pawns’. However the Rank of ‘King’ still exists in ‘The Game of Kings’ and it is portrayed by the Player themselves.

Acquiring Pieces:

The biggest part of The Game of Kings is putting a Set together and for that a Player has to gather at least fifteen Pieces. In other words fifteen people that they can order into battle. Fifteen people who will be modified in order to follow commands and hence carry out the demands of their Players. Each Piece is chose by their Player for particular reasons. So important is acquiring Pieces that a lot of money can be made in trading, selling or buying Pieces. The possible ways that Pieces can be acquired are outlined below.

  • ‘Search and Make’: This are the most common type of Pieces found in any given Set, mainly because they are the easiest to acquire. A Player will acquire these by literally searching for them; such as people who have survived the destruction of an area or been arrested. Often people that are chosen to become pieces have everything already taken away from them, people who have nothing. Nothing apart from the sheer determination to keep living and often defiance for those that wish to place rules over them. Players tend to look for people who will fight back, who are creative and will do anything to live. People with stoic, dark, foreboding and indifferent natures are usually chosen too. It doesn’t matter as long as the will obey a Player, or they run the risk of forfeiting their lives. Once a person is chosen to be a Piece they are merely outfitted with a Control Chip and Nano-fusers and any other enhancements needed to make a Piece fit into a particular rank.

  • ‘Breed and buy’: Sometimes a Player will retire from ‘The Game of Kings’ and will make a living from it, but taking the Set they had and the discarded Pieces of other Sets and breeding Pieces like animals. Then they would equip them with enhancements and train the as particular Pieces and offer them to Players still enjoying the game, at a price. With this price in mind a Breeder will make less high end Pieces like ‘Queens’ until the ones they have are sold. Breed and Buy Pieces often have generation listings so one can track down a Breeder of a Piece.

  • ‘Take over’: A Take Over is where one Player acquires a Piece off another Player, often for a large amount of money. Occasionally threats may lead to the acquiring of a Piece.

  • ‘Rule breaker’: Rule breaker Pieces are acquired usually by killing a Player, or bribing the Piece themselves to ignore the orders of their Player. Very few Players resort to Rule Breaking, preferring instead to show their power, by mercilessly crushing the Player they are playing against.

  • ‘Blood Intervention’: This is the rarest of all Piece acquisition and has the name suggests it can only be achieved by the Blood Set or ‘The Hidden Player’. A ‘Blood Intervention’ is believed to occur when a Piece meets one of the Blood Set and if ‘The Hidden Player’ thinks the Piece worthy of taking into the Blood Set. It is rumoured that then a Piece’s Control Chip is removed and never heard of again; unless they turn up as a Blood Piece against their previous Player.

  • ‘Retired’: A phrase not often used in ’The Game of Kings’, but Pieces are retired, and required to leave the Set they where are part of. However they get to keep their lives and for the first time they are given their freedom along with a cash settlement. Pieces are only retired when they are too old. Pieces lose value when they start getting older or when their Player loses a match. Troublesome Pieces are either killed or retired; unless they are useful. Players can recruit retired Pieces back into play, but it is rarely done, unless a Piece is believed to have potential.

Regular Game:

A Regular Game is played exactly like a Game of chess, the only expectation is that at the same time a Player’s Pieces are creating a real war by trying to force their opposing Pieces to be ‘removed from play’. However just as in chess if a piece is taken from the board it is not destroyed, rather keep for the next Game or for the event if one Player gets a Pawn across the board and calls a piece (and consequently a Piece) back into play. A Piece is then said to be ‘returned to play’. However all this is not achieved without lose, when a Piece is ‘removed from play’ the bounty over its head is paid to the Player who forced its removal. These rules are what govern a so called Regular Game in ‘The Game of Kings’, they our outlined below in more detail.

  • Bounties: The Bounty Rule is perhaps one of the interesting and hypocritical rules in ‘The Game of Kings’. It is called hypocritical because it is a rule put in place to keep the Pieces of any given Set alive, even when these Pieces have no freedom of their own. A Piece must follow what their Player commands or risk losing their life. The Bounty Rule is in place to ensure that the only person who can take the life of a Piece is their Player alongside the Blood Set and ‘The Hidden Player’.

This rule works very simply; each Player decides how much each Piece in their set is worth to them, in money. Then they place this sum of money over the Piece’s head when a Game begins. Now if this Piece has to be ‘removed from play’ because of the actions of the opposing Player a Player must hand this bounty money to the opposing Player in order to keep their Piece alive. This is one of the main reasons why ‘The Game of Kings’ is only played by The Rich.

  • ‘Removed from play’: This is one of the most common phrases in ‘The Game of Kings’ It refers to when a Piece is taken off the board in a regular game of Chess. However in ‘The Game of Kings’ it means that for a set amount of time the Piece in question is ‘removed from play’ meaning that they can no longer carry out any actions until they are ‘returned to play’.

  • ‘Returned to play’: Perhaps the second most common phrases in ‘The Game of Kings’ is ‘returned to play’ this is the opposite of ‘removed from play’ as it is when an previously and temporally immobile Piece is reactivated into the game and can carry out their ordered actions again.

  • Reset: This happens when two Pieces from opposing sets met up with each other, because Pieces can’t kill each other both are knocked out from an electric shock from the Control Chip. Once both are unconscious they are reactivated in different areas away from each other.

Blood Game:

A Blood Game is only played when a regular Player goes up against ‘The Hidden Player’. Much like a Regular game a Blood Game is ruled traditionally by the rules of the chess board. However all of the Regular game rules are ignored. Pieces are no longer moved in and out of play, and the bounties over the heads of the Pieces are completely ignored. The only rule in a Blood Game is that Pieces can kill each other, so there is no need for a Reset, rather instead the only that applies is called ‘Eliminated’.

  • ‘Eliminated’ Perhaps the easies rule to understand in any game it only comes into play during Blood Games. Put simply with this rule in plat Pieces are allowed to kill each other, mercilessly.

Classes:

Innocents:

They say that ignorance is bliss, but in this day and age it can be dangerous too. The only people that know about The Game which is being played with the society are those who are involved with it; either The Rich who play The Game or the Pieces who are used in The Game. The Innocents as they have been dubbed have no knowledge of The Game whatsoever and because of this have become ultimately disposable. If they are to get in the way of The Game and its Pieces then the only chance they have for survival is their own wits and a great deal of luck. This is because when two Pieces engage each other, they will try and eliminate each other, not matter the cost and though and means available. These blatant acts of excessive violence have lead to War the world over, even after Pieces have vacated the area.

Usually Innocents are eliminated in the cross fire, or if a Piece is feeling particularly blood thirsty. Those that are lucky enough to survive live within War torn areas and struggle to survive. Often they resort to stealing in order to gain food and water. The Innocents within this world include everyone, bar The Rich. There are parents, children, Law Enforcers, drunks, addicts, the employed, the unemployed, people from every walk of life and every remaining culture on Earth. They survived by banding together in community groups, who will appoint a leadership system and share the tasks of getting food and shelter for the group. Those groups in the worst affected areas have become somewhat nomadic, moving around in order to locate food and water in order to getting living one day at a time. In richer or less affected areas groups create themselves from the structure of old neighborhoods, Suburbs and Cities.

While the Innocents are ultimately at the mercy of the Pieces and hence The Rich they are the biggest threat to The Game itself. This because the Innocents are an unknown factor, while easily eliminated they are the only force (Other than the Blood Pieces and the Hidden Player) that are capable or destroying a Piece or a Player.

Pieces:

Please note, when referring to a person who is a Piece use a capital P, lower case p’s would be used for other uses of the world ‘piece’ such as a piece of pie.

What is life but a question, when life is Slavery; why should my existence serve anyone but me? As a Piece that question is the closest thing to your existence. You have no life, but to sever and if you weren’t a piece it is likely that you would already be dead, murdered or eliminated by a Piece or the aftermath of War. Pieces are basically Slaves when you get beneath the somewhat glorious façade placed on them. They carry out the will of The Rich, in exchange for being allowed to live. There are three divisions of Pieces and five ranks.

The divisions are White, Black and Blood; this refers to what colour the Player or Game Master of a particular Set prefers to use. While somewhat traditionally White and Black connote the idea of either peace (for White) or Chaos (for Black) this is not the case within The Game. Neither side is seen as ‘good’ or ‘evil’, they are simply two advancing armies seeking to eliminate each other. Despite this though Pieces cannot eliminate each other; regardless of if they are on the same team or opposite teams. This is because all pieces are protected by their Players and hence a lot of money. This money is handed to the victorious Player when a Piece is ‘removed from play’. However more money will back the Piece when it is either ‘returned to play’ or used in a new Game.

The Blood Set however exists outside these rules, there is only one Blood Set in existence and it is played by a Game Master who was been dubbed ‘The Hidden Player’. ‘The Hidden Player’ is the ultimate challenge, most matches in which this Player takes part in ends within the dead of the challenger. The Blood Set Pieces are not constrained by the rule that a Piece cannot kill another Piece, they can and they often do so brutally. Blood Pieces are also capable of eliminating Players and Game Masters. (Blood Pieces are NPC only)

The Rank of a Piece plays an important role too; there are five primary Ranks and one honorary Rank. King is the honorary Rank as it not played by a piece, rather it is the position the Player takes. All the other Pieces are primary Ranks and are the Pieces common on every Chess Board. Each Piece has its own special enhancements which help define its Rank within The Game. There are enhancements common to all Pieces though, these are Control Chips and Nano-Fusers.

  • Control Chips: (commonly called CC’s) are found embedded beneath the nape of the neck (right where the Brain stem is) in every single Piece. These Chips are important for the effect running and Control of Pieces. This is because they can be used to relay verbal commands to each Piece on their next task. Also they aid in instances when a Piece must be ‘removed from play’. In such instances the Control Chip will send a jolt of electricity into a Piece, rendering them unconscious until they are ‘returned to play’ or are used in the next Game.

  • Nano-Fusers on the other hand are just as useful, but more so for the well being of a Piece, Nano-Fusers enable rapid healing as they fuse broken flesh and bones back together in minutes.

Base enhancements include Speed, Strength and Agility. Ranks and their enhancements, outlined below.

- ~ -

  • King: This is an honorary Rank and is not filled by a Piece, but rather the Player themselves. As such it is an automatically taken place on the board. It is also an NPC Rank only. The King Rank is a default Rank and comes with no enchantments, bar the power of command over the Pieces in their Set.

  • Queen: The highest ranking Piece of the primary Ranks a ‘Queen’ Piece is the most powerful Piece in play. An interesting note being that a ‘Queen’ Piece is almost always the opposite sex to the Player of a particular Set. Alongside the uniform enhancements of the Control Chip and the Nano-Fusers a ‘Queen’ Piece possesses the largest collection of other enhancements. A ‘Queen’ Piece has all the base enhancements being the strongest, fastest and most agile Piece in play. Other than the Rank of King the ‘Queen’ Piece is the only Piece in play that can give orders to the other Pieces in the same Set. Within a Set a ‘Queen’ is the best trained and the most deadly Piece in play, they have the best armour (when they chose to use it) and the best weapons. However due to the funds needed to create a ‘Queen’ Piece they are rare and only one exists per Set.

  • Bishop: Perhaps the smartest Piece or Pieces in a Set (there are two per Set) these are masters of intelligence, using a careful planning to reach their aims more times than brute force. They like every other Piece process both the Control Chip and Nano-fusers, however in a unique twist only available to this Piece their Nano-fusers act ten-fold their normal speed, healing in seconds rather than minutes. In another Nano-Fuser quirk ‘Bishop’ Pieces and ‘Bishop’ Pieces alone are able to speed the healing process of other Pieces. Of course they must have physical contact with them and the effects only lasts as long as the contact between a ‘Bishop’ and another Piece in their Set lasts. A ‘Bishop’ has the base enhancements of speed and agility; which is complemented by strong armour and medium quality weapons. All of these are pointing a ‘Bishop’ Piece into getting their task done as quickly as they can, with methods involving as little raw power as possible.

  • Knight: The real sense of power behind a Set other than the ‘Queen’ these Pieces rely on solid strength and there are two in each Set. They also possess the Control Chip and Nano-fusers. The base enchantments they have been given are all three, strength, speed and agility in order to aid with the tasks they will be given to carry out. Along with this ‘Knight’ Pieces have high quality armour and weapons that can be used only in short intervals of two to three hours at a time, with at least an hour’s rest in between.

  • Rook: Each Set contains two ‘Rook’ Pieces they are fast and brutally devastating, often able to carry out three or four consecutive tasks before running into possible resistance. Like all Pieces a ‘Rook’ possesses both a Control Chip and Nano-fusers. They have been given the Base enchantments of speed and strength. Enabling them to get to the locations of their tasks and just power though everything with a rather devastating finish. A ‘Rook’ Piece has been gifted medium quality weapons and armour.

  • Pawn: Often considered or called the fodder Pieces of any set ‘Pawn’ Pieces have been known to turn the tide of a Game and even win it. There are eight ‘Pawn’ Pieces in each set and all have the ‘universal’ Control Chips and Nano-fusers. However Pawns only have one of the Base enhancements, this being strength which has been known to get them out of the occasional tight spot and even help get an opposing Piece ‘removed from play’. Given weak armour and medium grade weapons a ‘Pawn’ is one of the lowest Pieces in a Set, but don’t underestimate them.

The Rich:

It’s always been said that money is the root of all evil and within this world its bang on the mark. Money has infested this world, and because of this, it’s The Rich that own everything, including lives. Yet The Rich were lonely and bored of their lives so they created a new Game, a Game that would rival the Colosseum of the Roman Ages, and the called it the ‘Game of Kings’. Only The Rich could play, because only they could afford the technology and the bounties over their Pieces that enabled them to play. Each of The Rich that play the Game possesses one Set of fifteen Pieces. These particular people among the Rich are called Players / Game Masters. Most are simple Players, picking to either be represented as Black or White. However there is one Player breed apart, and is only known as ‘The Hidden Player’. The Rich are NPC only.

  • Players / Game Masters: The elite of all of The Rich, they have enough money to partake in ‘The Game of Kings’. Each has enough money to build a Set of fifteen Pieces; which includes, buying the person to play the Piece, modifying them with the needed enchantments and having them trained for play. Players / Game Masters are NPC only. A Player / Game Master are the person who fills in the default and honorary Rank of ‘King’ when a Game is being played. This is so they can use the Control Chips in their Pieces to direct their movements and if the need should arise have them ‘removed from play’ or ‘returned to play’. A Player places money over the heads of their Pieces as a bounty, should their opponent force a Piece be ‘removed from play’ then they win the money and the Piece ‘removed from play’ keeps their life.

A note on Players / Game Masters as a NPC class they will appear only in storyline posts and maybe your very first post, if you clear it with me first. This is because the Pieces don’t know anything about them and the Innocents know even less about these people. The most you will ever see of a Player / Game Master is a hand, maybe a smile; but basically they are faceless and nameless people who Pieces must obey or forfeit their lives. Players are rarely referred to by name; rather they are referred to by reputation.

There will be three Players / Game Masters in this thread, all of whom are NPCs and as said before will only appear in storyline posts and your first post (if cleared with me). They may also appear in your PMs when I plan to have a few ‘secret’ objectives to carry out. The Players / Game Masters in the thread are as follows. A female with a Black Set, A male with a White Set and of course ‘The Hidden Player’

  • ’The Hidden Player’: The most mysterious of all the Players and Game Masters out there and also the ultimate challenge. It is rumoured that ‘The Hidden Player’ has never lost a Game. However what is known is that ‘The Hidden Player’ plays by slightly different rules, this player is not interested in the bounty over the heads of Pieces, nor has any bounty placed over heads of the Blood Set. The Blood Set being the name that refers to the Set created and played by ‘The Hidden Player’. It is aptly named as ‘The Hidden Player’ is only after blood; the Blood set kills Pieces from other Sets, including the ‘King’ Piece, which of course ends the Game. ‘The Hidden Player’ is an NPC only. A special note ‘The Hidden Player’ will never be seen outside of the storyline posts I make; and even in those posts very little of ‘The Hidden Player’ will be revealed.

I'm planning on making an old RP of mine.School of Twists. :3 It's a school,as the title says, but it's not so normal...It's in a sort of empty realm where people suddenly appear on the beaches of it,namely of all anime, manga, and video-game characters along with OCs.But no godmodding, although you can have godmoddy charcters(Their power's weakened alot by some forcefield...thing....)

Another one is a crack RP,of purpously making mary-sues and gary-stus to just take out your frustration. :D
