Why Not Pokemon League

Welcome to the Why Not Pokemon League, an unofficial league for pokemon fans. We, here, have worked to set up a series of challenges so that trainers from near and far can deepen the bond with their pokemon and develop a respect for pokemon competitive play.

To this end, we have sanctioned trainers throughout the Why Not region as Gym Leaders from whom you must obtain badges. Eligibility to enter our Elite Four competition can only be achieved with the acquisition of badges.

League Battle Rules

In order to ensure fairness and openness across battle mediums, certain universal rules have been settled upon. Please refer to the Rules and Terminology section for any rule clarifications.

All trainers must abide by these rules
-Single Level 50
-No Ubers
-Evasion Clause (non-strict)
-OHKO Clause
-Loose Specie Clause
-Loose Item Clause
-Legit Clause

Trainers caught breaking these rules will be subject to discipline, including invalidating their badges. Sanctioned League Trainers caught breaking these rules could lose their League Sanction.

Additional rules for League Sanctioned Trainers:

Gym Trainers:
-Team Limit: 3
-Theme Limit (must be of type related to gym)

Gym Leaders:
-Team Limit: 4
-Theme Limit (must be of type related to gym)

Elite Four:
-Team Limit: 5
-Theme Limit (must be of type for given seat)

League Progression Rules

Passing a Gym
-Gym Leaders are allowed to set up puzzles which could require the battling of Gym Trainers on failure.
-A Gym Leader cannot require all Gym Trainers to be beaten prior to a Gym Leader battle.
-The rules for reaching the Gym Leader are left up to the respective gyms.
-You may receive the badge for the gym once you have beaten the Gym Leader in a League Sanctioned battle.

The Elite Four
-In order to successfully challenge the Elite Four in a League Sanctioned match, you must obtain a minimum of eight badges.
-You may only register a single team to use against all members of the Elite Four and the Champion.
-If you wish to change your team you must forfeit your current progress through the Elite Four and register the new team.
-The Elite Four Members may be fought in any order.
-You will receive credit for a victory against an Elite Four Member once you have beaten them in a League Sanctioned battle.

Champion
-You may only battle the Champion after you have received credit for defeating all four members of the Elite Four.
-You may only use the team which was previously used to battle the Elite Four Members.
-You will receive a championship for a victory against the Champion. This will make your team valid for becoming the new Champion.

League Guidelines On Replacing Sanctioned Trainers

The thoughts

Very rough start. This is more like a brain dump for now.

13 gyms, only 8 badges needed to challenge Elite Four.

Elite Four + Champion ; battled with the same team

Champion is allowed any team.

Battle rules:
-No Ubers
-Singles, forced level 50 (for DS and PBR option fairness)
-Evasion Clause (non-strict)
-One Hit KO Clause
-Specie Clause
-Item Clause?

Additional Champion Rules:
-Loosely static team

Additional Elite Four Rules:
-Loosely static team
-Limit 5 Pokemon Max
-Loose type limitation (pokemon which match the themed type.)

Additional Gym Leader Rules:
-Loosely static team
-Limit 4 Pokemon Max
-Loose type limitation (pokemon which match the themed type.)

Additional Gym Trainer Rules:
-Limit 3 Pokemon Max
-Loose type limitation (pokemon which match the themed gym type.)

Gym Trainers ; accepted by Gym Leader, should Gym Leader be able to make them required?

Gym Leader ; determined by successfully beating the previous gym leader with a team of the same type?

Elite Four ; requires badges (eight?), determined the same way as Gym Leaders

Champion ; requires eight badges, determined by successful victory

-Note ; should a trainer lose against the Champion or a member of the Elite Four, should they be required to battle the Elite Four from the beginning? Impractical because actual people are involved... proposal:

*A single team is selected for entry into the Pokemon League. For that one team, victories against Elite Four members are remembered. Order of battle of the Elite Four doesn't have to be forced ; allows for balanced Elite Four challenging.

*In order to change the team you're using, you have to start over with the Elite Four.

Limitations on one person being multiple gym leaders?

A Gym Leader is not allowed to be a Gym Trainer.

No limitations on battling the people who are Gym Trainers, Leaders, Elite Four, or The Champion. They can even agree to battle you with their Pokemon League team. But only battles which conform to the rules of the Pokemon League will count in the Pokemon League.

Need graphics for the badges.
