I didn't think it was possible but there is a movie out there that can claim it is psychologically disturbing and visually captivating with a promise to stir emotions and mean it. I'm your average 17 year old guy and I hate to admit that a movie scared me or made me feel something that questions my masculinity but I couldn't hold it in with this one... it frightened me so much and made me so sad... not crying sad but just sad... it delivered exactly what it promised. I want to go read the book now and compare.

We had a guy come into our school a few years back and did a thing on drinking and driving. He referenced this movie (mispronouncing the title the entire time), and said it was a powerful and realistic portrayal of drugs. He showed us a trailer. Needless to say, the trailer alone was fairly powerful. Gave away the entire movie, but it worked. I never did see it, but maybe I will one day... if I get around to it.

I couldn't find it in the rental store when a buddy told me about it... and then randomly I was like oooh Requiem For A Dream... go figure it was in the rated R section with all those half pornos ... and I mean it isn't even that bad... if it deserves to be in the restricted section then so does A Clockwork Orange haha but I see that lies in the ... fantasy section... somehow hahaha

Hahaha. A Clockwork Orange in Fantasy over Restricted? How the hell does that work? Granted, A Clockwork Orange isn't really as bad now as it was when it was released. Hell, I'd probably let my 13 year old brother watch it.

Requiem For A Dream is more disturbing even though the concept of A Clockwork Orange is more disturbing overall... I think thats because we can relate to the characters more than Alex Delarge... I mean any of us could be addicts... not many of us have it in us to be a murdering rapist hahaha... but A Clockwork Orange got and X rating when it first came out and Kubrick had to cut a min of film out of it to even achieve a R rating.

I know about the whole cutting of A Clockwork Orange. Kubrick seemed to have that "curse" (or blessing, depending on how you look at it.) He could create these totally mesmerizing movies, but would be forced to cut and edit little bits out to gain an audience. He was ahead of his time in terms of sexual content and violence. He still is. Its only recently that Warner Bros. released the original cuts of Eyes Wide Shut and A Clockwork Orange. Before that, they were finely edited to remove sexual content. Shame on the MPAA. Thank God the system up in Canada isn't out of whack like that. (We've funded films called "The Masterbaters" and "Young People F----ing". We also gave "Lost in Translation" a PG rating, whereas the US gave in an R rating.)

Yea you notice the states they are so harsh on movies and ratings... didnt movies like Lord of the Rings get an R rating where as here they got 14A... poor American kids... although we weren't 14 when the first one came out anyway. Most recent one I can think of that got and R Canadian rating was Sin City... I dont know you could probably think of more. And NO SEX... NUDITY AND SEX ARE PROHIBITED... but lets saw a guy in half for laughs thats cool.

Hmm... yes... Sin City is the first one that comes to mind. Grindhouse got an 18A, as did Sweeney Todd, but that's still less harsh than R. It's not often you see R rated movies in Canada. I think that's our equivalent of NC-17, which, therefore, equals instant death at the box office. I'll take the Canadian system any day, thanks, because even though in two months it really won't matter, at least I could take my little cousin to see perfectly harmless movies like "Once" and "Lost in Translation".

Hahaha. But, like I said in the Citizen Kane forum, we really need to get back on topic.

*ahem*

So, about Requiem... I don't have much more to say.
