Okay, so a few times I've encountered friends who told me that their uncle/mom/dad/cousin/etc. drew a certain artwork that I was unfamiliar at the time, but then I found out that it was actually some sort of masterpiece by someone else. Like years ago, one of my friends showed me the drawing "The Kiss" (I forgot who it was by) and told me her mom drew it. After she moved away to Maryland, I found out her mom didn't draw it and it was a somewhat well-known piece of artwork. A few days ago, this guy I talk to showed me a picture he printed out and said that his cousin drew it (and he claims his cousin go to SCAD Atlanta) and today I found it on the DD on dA with the artist living in Los Angles (sepcifically this art work: http://paperboogie.deviantart.com/art/The-City-59472962 ). I dunno how he found it tho.
So. Why do people lie like that? To impress someone? To show off their relatives/friends can draw? D:

It's basically to impress someone, yeah.
Myself, I've always credited whoever or whatever helped me, whether it be from art, to music, to even writing, I always pay my respects and credits.
Or maybe they think that their relatives did it, because that's what THEY say, and they just continue the lie without knowing the truth.
