For comics don't need to have really detailed backgrounds except if it is *time passing*, *a new location*, or *something the characters are looking for or showing something that is hidden *like I spy*.. :3
Just do sketches or outlines.

I hear you on that. I've struggled with backgrounds for AGES now. I hate doing them, so I never practice, so I ever get any good at them.... Best thing you can do is practice and use references every time (even when you don't think you need one)

Well I suck at them too but I do know that you should use references and learn perspective. I'm learning perspective next after I master the male body cause it's like the one thing I can't draw drives me nuts...

^^ This! You have the whole internet to help you find references But, for backgrounds a good thing to practice is perspective and basic shapes In college, you spend countless hours drawing still lives of boxes and spheres If you get the basic shapes down, along with a basic knowledge of space, perspective, and proportion, then you should be able to come up with an acceptable background But, in any case, try posting up some pics of your stuff and I'm sure you'll get more help with what you need.

Totally. Use references. And when you go out pay attention to the way everything looks.
