Ythan II
I wish I knew these things.
I never know what you guys are talking about but I probably should.

Linux is a lot easier now than it was back then, Ythan.
Get a LiveCD burned and just run the liveCD...it won't make any changes to your current system, and you can learn it on the side.
Ubuntu is the easiest...Mint is like Ubuntu, only more elegant and a bit more user friendly to 3rd party and restricted programs.
The steepest curve is compiling from tarballs. Other than that...most of the time there are packages that handle everything for you.
EDIT - I highly do not recommend you use it if you like PC gaming....Yeah, you could use Crossover, or Wine, or PlayOnLinux , or that other program that you have to pay for that adds compatibility (Cedega, I think)....but it takes a lot of trial and error. Unless you like mental frustration and that keeps you going.
Dual booting is the way to go if you want to have the best of both worlds.
Just install Windows first before installing Linux...If you do it other way around...you'll have to recover GRUB...and it's not fun.
