She wandered aimlessly inside her hat's dark passages, peering into every room. Paintings of demented owners leered down from their frams, watching from their windows of time, forever. She opened the door carefully, her shadow stretching out in front of her. Inside, she found a figure huddled in a corner. "Bronze?" she called out tentatively. "Is that you...?" She padded closer, her boots thudding dully into the carpet, sending up small puffs of dust and ash. She approached the figure, still stationary, still dark. She reached out and shook the figure's shoulder, the cloth of its clothes coming away under her fingers. A head lolled back, its hollow eyes staring back at her, mirroring her own horror. She screamed, bolting out of the chamber and down the corridor. "You're on your own!" she screamed.
