Uhhh...I have no art to post, but next year, I'm going to do an AP Portfolio and I have to do a concentration which consists of 12 images that have a theme. So I was wondering if you guys could help me out with my theme.
Here's some I was thinking to do:
Mental Disorders (my dad thinks such a subject is weird, but I'm considering this one the most) Facial expressions Piano (I dunno if I really want to do this one. The keys'll kill me)
Meh...that's all I have for now. Opinions? You can suggest a new theme too, if you want.

They're all kinda... normal. Like everyone does those topics. Plus doing 12 pieces on mental disorders would get so boring. And they'd all turn out the same. Same for piano.
Facial expressions would be the best option of the three. But I feel like you're thinking inside the box a bit too much. Like if you did do piano, it's only inspired by piano, whoever said you have to draw one?

I don't really know what a concentration is or what kind of themes people usually choose since I don't take art. So I don't really have an opinion on the themes you've picked. As long as you feel inspired by them, I don't see why you couldn't do it.
Only thing is that mental disorders sounds really vague to me. What sort of things would you be depicting? I had some ideas, I dunno if they help. Branching off of mental disorders, you could explore hallucinations? Phobias? Medication/addiction? Or insane asylums (look up hellingly asylum on flickr...)? Autistic savants (which could even tie into the piano thing)? Anorexia/bulimia/eating disorders? Suicide? Multiple personality disorder?
Or some brainstorming for the piano theme: -ebony/ivory? ---> multiracial stuff -sheet music -concert hall -different composers? most composers have some pretty interesting lives -unconventional piano designs? -insides of a piano, all the wiring and that (I find it pretty interesting)

The disorders I'm thinking of are paranoia, schizophrenia, multiple personality disorder, narcissism, OCD, PTSD, bipolar, anorexia, depression, and some others. Some of the ones I want to draw might be somewhat hard, since I'm going to try and depict the life/symptoms/hallucinations/etc. of someone affected based off of what I research about the disorders.
I like the idea of the insides of a piano because I think it's interesting, too, but it might be hard for me to draw, since I'm inexperienced at drawing such things. D;

It might be interesting to choose one mental disorder and depict the life of a person with that. Schizophrenia would be interesting to do that with.
My great aunt's a paranoid schizophrenic, I could give you some real-life scenarios. xD

My great aunt's a paranoid schizophrenic, I could give you some real-life scenarios. xD That's a good idea (and it would save me time trying to depict the other illness I know less of O: ). I've researched a lot on schizophrenia because I'm also writing a novel about one of my characters having it.
That would be perfect! If you don't mind, could you send me some scenarios through PM about your great aunt? It would both help my art and my novel. :]

If you're going the schizo route, consider doing something that can somewhat physically "create" the persona(s) within the person.
I don't know if you've ever played the game/read the comic called "Killer 7," but it's basically about an old, crippled assassin that uses Ki and a series of split personalities to channel different personalities for his missions, and he can quite literally turn into them, unless a Camera, special mirrors, etc. hit him.

Schizophrenia =/= multiple personality disorder. Shut up.

SWFT's just proving that you have to do your research for something like this, too. >>
I want to know where people got so confused with schizophrenia. Did some popular TV show ******** up or something?
Aaanyway judging by your devART you've chosen your idea. Mind you this is mental illness so you REALLY can go wild.
Look up schizophrenia art, too, while you're at it. Use that as an inspiration, even.

@Enni: Haha, don't worry, I won't do facial expressions. :] And thanks for watching me. <33
@Swft: Yeah...Breathe In's right. Schizo isn't MPD. Though MPD would be interesting too.
@Adryk: Same here. Even my art teacher thought that schizophrenia was MPD (and most of the people I know). Maybe because schizophrenia means "split mind" or something along those lines.
Anyway, I'm searching for schizo art on dA, though most of them don't make much sense. OTL
