honestly my favourite of all time was Beauty and the Beast. Belle was one of the most independant females compared to Cinderella, Sleeping beauty, etc.

But since you asked between Little Mermaid and Sleeping Beauty, I'll have to go with Little Mermaid. Little Mermaid was one of my childhood favourites, I've never seen Sleeping Beauty as a child. The first time i've seen it was 2 years ago, I wasn't too impressed.
