Try the Secrets Of The Immortal Nicholas Flamel series its amazing and has alot of "history" and great Mythical creatures ^_^

There are these great recipe/mystery books by Joanne Fluke. Not sure if you're into cooking though but basically they're like regular novels with the main character being a baker/pastery chef and sometimes on occasion they'll feature a recipe or two that goes along with the plot.

I love them. Usually I just borrow books because after reading I never really would want to read them again but this is the type of book you can keep for its recipes. :3 And all the recipes are sweets like cookies, cake or cupcakes. More or less along those lines. :3
