Hello~ Well, right now I'm reading Howl's Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones. I've loved the movie based off it for a couple of years now.
So, what do you think is better? The movie or the book?

Personally, I can't decide. The book opens up a whole new doorway that movie didn't even mention, like the MarthaxMicheal (which is SO cute. x3) thing. Martha and Micheal aren't even in the movie! For those of you who haven't read the book, Martha is Sophie's other younger sister, and Micheal is Howl's assisstant. I know, Howl has that adorable little boy in the movie, whom I adore, but Micheal is 15, so they're not the same people.
Not to mention I'm over 136 pages in, and Howl only recently had the green-slime tantrum. There has been no SophiexHowl yet, which I had been looking forward too..okay, I take that back. There was a LITTLE SophiexHowl recently, but you have to look at it closely.

I think I'm leaning towards the movie. But that might be biased cause of Calcifer. Don't worry, Calcifer is in the book, and he's just as smart-a** as ever, but I just ADORE his English voice, and you know how books are..you can't hear the voices except in your head. :< And I think my voices decided to take a smoke-break and died of lung cancer cause the only voice I can hear in my head now is my own? D8

Well, anyway, give your opinions!

They are both fantastic in their own way.

The book of course, is orginally fantastic...there aren't words to describe it. The characters are fabulous, from main to supporting. And the setting is great too, and just her writing is so vivid... heart

But, then Miyazaki's interpretation of the book wasn't supposed to be a direct interpretation and I can live with that. Because the movie was wonderful in it's own ways and I can watch it a thousand times and still not get bored of it. heart

I own both and I read the book while I watch the movie...so I can't pick. I watch the movie while I'm falling asleep and I take the book with me when I go on trips--they never get old. heart

I like the movie better.
The book was really good, but really different.
So, I think I just prefer the one I was introduced to first.

I love them both the same...The movie's so off that it could be it's own storyline, but I still love it...

Have you read the sequel House of Many Ways yet? I'm about halfway through...

I have read the book and watch the movie. Usually I prefer books over movies but this time I would say the movie better. It just that how Diana Wynne Jones storyline a bit of confusing.

I can't decide. I mean, the movie left out so much of the book, but it wasn't in a bad way. It actually almost created it's whole new thing, like the Wicked musical did. I do think I liked the book better, because I just tend to like books better than movies, but looking at the stories objectively, one is just as likable as the other.

I liked the book better. The movie had Sophie being less of the strong female character she is, and being more unsure of herself. It also said nothing about her magical ability! The witch was great in the movie, I loved the fact she was played by Lauren Bacall, but she was also fundamentally different, sort-of how Wicked was toned down for the stage. Watch the movie before you read the book, or you won't be able to enjoy it fully.

I preferred the movie because Howl seemed like a nicer character. And Sofie didn't get to mad all the time.
