It's not a big deal at all. It's quite common, since girls mature faster than boys, they want someone more mature. Though I don't think a year is that big of a difference.

And also, there's really nothing wrong with it!! I was put in early as a kid and so anyone I like from my school is automatically a year older than me...and there's never been any problems with that!

All the guys I've liked (except for one who is my age) have been older than me.
And most of my girl friends' boy friends are older by a couple years.

Not a big deal at all. My fiance is almost exactly a year younger (minus two days) so it's not that bad. He was just turned 17 and I was 18 when we got together.

Also, my first boyfriend was 12 and I was 13. Not that bad.

It's not a big deal, darling. It's actually pretty common. One of my best friends is 18 and she was going out with a 14-year-old guy. THAT was bad. One year is no biggie. And as well, another one of my girl friends was going out with a 19-year-old when she was 16 or 17 or so. So no, I don't think one year is a huge difference. Don't worry about it. Go for it.

The age difference is actually good. Girls mature waay faster than boys, so a one-to-two years' age difference is always good so you'll match up about the same in terms of maturity.

If it makes you feel any better, my boyfriend is 7 yrs older than me. Chances are your parents are more than a year apart. Mine are 7 as well.
