have you read it? if so, what did you think of it?
about Hannah? about Clay? about any of the other people?
about suicide in general? talk about it !

A friend of mine read it, and said she liked it. What's it about? I get suicide, but is it like, those whiny emo kids, or people who have an actual reason to be depressed?

I read it, I don't remember very many details about it, but know right after reading it you really start thinking about people you know who could be in danger. It's not a bad book, give it a try.

it's about a boy who receives a series of tapes from a girl he's loved since, forever, who recently committed suicide. [her name is Hannah] in the tapes, Hannah tells about all the things that led her to taking away her life. I found it a bit annoying, but not in a emo-whiny type, but in a yeah-bad-stuff-happened-to-you-but-they-weren't-that-bad-to kill-yourself-over type. you should still read it; makes for an interesting read.

I agree with you. Most people I know absolutely love the novel, but I found it painful and thought Hannah was cruel. Seriously, she made the guy crushing on her listen to that.

I have the audiobook, and I thought it was really good. It's not, like one of my favorites or anything, but I like it.

I read this in....10th grade, or maybe 9th. Borrowed it off of a friend.

Anyway, as has been said earlier- not one of my favorite books of all time, but I found it rather enjoyable.

I too thought for a bit that those really weren't things I'd find worth killing myself over...but then I stepped back and remembered that humans are very complex beings.
Each person reacts to different situations in different ways, both in action and emotional response...some of which to no fault of their own.
What might be easy to overcome for one person might totally bring another to pieces.

As for her crush listening to it- That actually makes a bit of sense.
If someone is attracted to you, chances are they'll be more willing to listen to what you have to say as opposed to the next person.
It may have been viewed as cruel, but in all honesty it might have been the only way for her to get her story, and her underlying point, across.
Hannah needed someone to hear her when no one else would.

i bought the book last summer to randomly read.

in my case i found it very relatable on both ends of the line. i've been Hannah but i've definitely been Clay as well. it was very thought provoking for me at the time and made me think a bit about things of the past i try to not think about.

good read.

I read this a few months ago when my friend wouldn't stop pestering me about it. I read it in about two days. I remember after I read the whole thing I would be really careful about what I said to others, just in case they'd like feel really bad and have to kill themselves over something I said. XD Me and my friend also made a list of thirteen people we would like to send our tapes to, if ever we thought of doing the same thing.

It's a good book, but I felt like really bad for Clay. Just the fact that he had to hear those seven tapes of OUCH. -__- I'd give it 3.4/5. :3

If you're going to dream, dream big.
I enjoyed that book. My friend had it and brought it to school, so naturally I was curious. Took a while for me to get started, but after that I just devoured it (as I typically do).
I thought Hannah was rather.... Urgh. I understand that she must've been hurt, but it seems that everywhere I'm turning nowadays I've finding books about suicidal teenagers due to "modern stress" i.e. bullying.
Sigh.

This is one of the BEST books I have ever read!!! It really gets into your head about how much thought she put into her suicide and goes into come intersting details.

I'll preface this by saying that I have not read this book; I'm just responding to this comment.

No. Just... no.
If someone attempts to - or succeeds at - killing themselves, there is a lot of guilt that comes with that. Making one person listen to your story is going to make that guilt even worse for them; they get to deal with everything they did that contributed to the person killing themselves and everything that they could have done to stop that person. Sending those reasons to a crush (which implies that the romantic feelings are one-sided) is incredibly cruel and borderline manipulative; it seems like something that would be coupled with 'I wouldn't have killed myself if you had loved me back'.
