They were both influenced by the same manga artists growing up, and they also went to the same school. Hence the similarities, but the stories and characters are definitely different.

I guess I'd have to say Erza, she kicks a**. xd But I do like Gray and Natsu as well. But to be honest there isn't a character that I really really like, but I have stopped reading the series so I can't say much about it.
