I just read this in summer and I feel that Happedol Is right! We need some more interesting, intellectual conversations ladies. Im not saying were dumb but i am saying we should expand our vocabulary and write and speak in mature content. Im new to this so please dont be mean sweatdrop Here is a topic that I think is very necessary to tell kids about!
I got this from a website so dont tell me its from my words:

First off, Spongebob is not so much a children's show as a teenage show. Like that of Cow and Chicken, or more previously Shrek, it teaches children lessons as many other shows do, and they understand. It is done in a certain way that many of the jokes in the show can only be understood by older kids, but the admirable characters and colourful animation get the message of basic morals across to young children. Of course liberalism can be seen in kids' shows, we are living in a changing world and the mass media must adjust to suit the opinions of the majority of viewers, and thus must teach children that ethnic and religous differences etc are now accepted in society, which is true on the most part. If you want "wholesome" TV for kids, sit them in front of the Disney Channel, in which life is impossibly happy and protganonists are always the popular, pretty kids. --LauraF 08:44, 25 February 2009 (EST)

And honestly if you seen this little girl who lives with my best friend, she watches HannaH Montanna and Wizards of Waverly Place, those shows made her a meany n very sassy like annoying "i want this and blah blah blah say what?" type of girl, she is influenced in being like those girls who dont care what her parents say n what not. its disturbing n annoying

I get what you're saying, but I wouldn't call it propaganda.

pro·pa·gan·da
noun ˌprä-pə-ˈgan-də, ˌprō-
Definition of PROPAGANDA
1
capitalized : a congregation of the Roman curia having jurisdiction over missionary territories and related institutions
2
: the spreading of ideas, information, or rumor for the purpose of helping or injuring an institution, a cause, or a person
3
: ideas, facts, or allegations spread deliberately to further one's cause or to damage an opposing cause; also : a public action having such an effect
— pro·pa·gan·dist-dist noun or adjective
— pro·pa·gan·dis·tic-ˌgan-ˈdis-tik adjective
— pro·pa·gan·dis·ti·cal·ly-ti-k(ə-)lē adverb

The main problems mentioned in LauraF's quote and your thoughts came across to me as:
1.) Jokes targeted at older viewers in kid's shows.
2.) Kids imitating rude behaviors on TV.
3.) The comment about liberalism and tolerance in mass media.

So that's what I'll address.

1.) Jokes targeted at older viewers in kid's shows.
A lot of kid's shows, older and newer, have had jokes targeted at older viewers* so that the show can appeal to the parents being forced to watch the show with their kids. Those jokes can be badly done, but overall I don't think it's really a problem to have them.

They're certainly not propaganda, though. A reference to an older movie or a sexual joke that goes over the kid's head isn't helping or hurting any cause, it's just there for humor.

2.) Kids imitating rude behaviors on TV.
I do think the vast majority of main characters in kid's shows acting rude is unneeded simply from a quality standpoint. That said, it's still the job of the kid's parents to make sure that they're watching something appropriate. If the kid acts rudely, the parents should make it clear that this isn't accepted in their house and punish the kid.

I still wouldn't consider it propaganda, though. A character behaving rudely isn't furthering or opposing any ideas.

3.) The comment about liberalism and tolerance in mass media.

LauraF
Of course liberalism can be seen in kids' shows, we are living in a changing world and the mass media must adjust to suit the opinions of the majority of viewers, and thus must teach children that ethnic and religous differences etc are now accepted in society, which is true on the most part.

This comes across to me as saying that teaching kids that there's nothing wrong with ethnic/religious/etc. differences is bad, which I completely disagree with. Tolerance is something that we really should be teaching kids, especially since interacting with someone of a different ethnicity/religion/etc. is something that they will do during their lifetime. Kids do need to learn to respect other people.

It would be propaganda if the lesson was that 'Religion X was the best' and pushed for the viewers to convert, but I personally don't see tolerance as propaganda. I know there are people that would disagree with me here, though.

I completely agree with you. :'D

But that statement doesn't even pertain to "propaganda."
There certainly is blatant propaganda and market brainwashing in children shows but the majority of it isn't pushing a liberal agenda, as much of today's "sexual innuendos" and more adult-ish humor can be spotted in many of Disney classics...in fact most the classics are much more risque than the modern mind-numbing crap today. (simply because it was aimed more at the family as a whole rather than just kids.) And teaching tolerance to children isn't exactly propaganda...at least, I'd hardly call it that.

Kids don't get sexual jokes. Seriously. I was rewatching a show I used to watch when I was TEN, so I knew s**t, and they had a perverted comment thrown in that I didn't get then. (something like "Do you want to ski down me? I MEAN SKI DOWN WITH ME!" xD)
But I love perverted comments in kid's shows. They're fun.

The shows are about teenagers, and teenagers are sassy little bitches. At least a lot of them are. I know I am. If a kid is copying their behavior, don't let them watch the show. Seriously. I'm so sick of people blaming TV for their children being assholes. Maybe if you didn't have the TV babysit your kids, they'd behave.

And...isn't tolerance GOOD?

The only problem I have with modern kid's shows: NO PLOT. Seriously. When I was a kid, all the shows I watched had a PLOT (W.i.t.c.h, X-Men: Evolution, Batman Beyond). A crappy plot, maybe, but it followed a storyline. Modern kid shows are pretty much kiddy versions of Family Guy. Just for the lawls. This is why children are stupid. They aren't watching shows where they have to THINK and remember.
I get a 2-3 year watching Dora, but my 7 or 8 year old BOY cousin watches Dora and Wonder Pets. When I was his age I watched the badass s**t. :l

Who gives a s**t it's television, if you don't like it then don't watch it.
You can only shelter a kid for so long, there really isn't any point in it.
They will always go behind your back and watch it, I sure did .

Even so with the stuff I watched as a kid yeah they had some perverted jokes. It went over my head, I didn't notice them until I was older.
