Nicknames: Kari, by friends; starfish, by parents; hoefish or blowfish, by everyone else
Gender: Female
Age: 62 (Merfolk, specifically the fish-tailed ones and not Selkies or Sirens any other sea-stuff, have a lifespan all their own-- but this equates to approximately 16~17)

Faction/Race Monster - Mermaid

Personality:
Well, it's not that she's completely stupid or anything, but Karis definitely isn't the brightest fish in the sea. She's kind of like Gretchen from Mean Girls-- she'd have to ask the kid next to her how to spell the word 'orange.' This often leads people to wonder how she functions in a school setting, but she somehow manages. It may not be that she's an idiot, necessarily, but that her under-the-sea way of life is just so radically different from the norm of landlife. Karis may surprise someone with a deep, refined comment on something from time to time.

Unfortunately, Karis has never been the kind of gal to think things through before actually doing something, nor does she learn from prior mistakes. Once something is done, it's done, but she will think it over afterwards by asking herself: was it fun? If the answer is yes, she'll do it again, regardless of the consequences. It is this kind of hedonistic behavior that Karis' parents hate and wish to oust.

In addition to her thrill-seeking, Karis has a supreme curiosity for all things new and exciting. She's most definitely read up on human anatomy, that's old news-- but demons? Oh boy. Undead? Don't be close minded! And who knows what Reapers are capable of? Karis is capable of finding beauty in anything and everything. Yellow teeth? You don't see that often! You have bones sticking out of your chest? Well, look how white they are! Red eyes? Everything must be rose tinted! If they'll have her, Karis won't hesitate to cozy up to them. In the off-chance that she is rejected? This is the story of a girl, who cried a river and DROWNED THE WHOLE WORLD~!

But don't let that fool you into thinking she'll stick with any one creature/ghoul/thing for too long. She gets bored quickly, and as such, is constantly captivated by the new and exciting. Karis would probably leave a devastatingly beautiful reaper for a gorilla-armed monster with bulging pectorals the day after she's had her fun. If the feeling of "this was just fun" is mutual, great! If not? Well... She's sure you'll find someone else.

Even though this mermaid appreciates beauty in many forms, she does not pursue it in women. Females serve another purpose in Karis' life-- the role of BFFs. While she is quick to discard boys like garbage, Karis grows an instant, nearly-unbreakable "I feel like I've known you my whole life, let's share secrets" sort of bond with any girl who even considers her an acquaintance. Should the girl loathe Karis' fishy guts, she'd still think of them as a close friend-- and, unfortunately, it seems as though a lot of, if not most of, the girls seem to find her forwardness towards boys and ditzy behavior to be intolerable. Perhaps it is karma paying Karis back, but she doesn't seem to mind-- they're her friends, no matter what they say!

One might wonder why a girl who is so quick to drop boys left and right would be so devoted to female relationships. Well, she looks at it this way: boys don't want to hear your deepest, darkest secrets, and they for sure don't want to hear about boys.

Why are they enrolled in Amityville Academy?
Karis constantly found herself in trouble with her parents for canoodling with 'victims' rather than bringing them to a watery grave. As a result, they decided it'd be in her best interest-- not only for herself, but for the family-- to ship her away to Amityville, where she would learn to be a fine mermaid of outstanding quality. Unbeknownst to Karis' parents, however, there are creatures far prettier (and far more willing to get into trouble) than sea-faring victims they're used to at the school.

FEAR:
Karis secretes a sweet, residual substance from her scales that induces a state of temporary euphoria, thus lowering defense. Typically, Karis becomes dehydrated when using her FEAR, since it draws from the natural moisture in her mermaid flesh.

Natural Ability: Form-changing between humanoid and mermaid. She is capable of maintaining either shape at will, but any contact with salt water will immediately force her to revert back into a mermaid. This means that, should she be in a battle and her opponent throws a bucket of salt water at her, she'd be reduced to a flopping fish on the battlefield until dry. But in "fresh" water (this being bog/swamp/river/lake sources), she can choose to be in either form she chooses-- but why would she keep legs in the water?
