Well the eye of the cyclone passed right over Mission Beach, where my grandmother, aunt and uncle live. Thankfully they are fine, they evacuated inland to a place called Tully, as their houses are on the coast at Mission Beach.
We've heard my grandmother's house is mostly okay, no major damage, and are yet to hear if my aunt and uncle's house is okay.
There's been a tonne of destruction, the most severe winds reached all the way from Cairns to Townsville. The core was 500km (300 miles) wide. The cyclone has reduced now to a category 2 and is still tracking inland.
