There is a note folded and attached to Toby's door.

ADDED TRANSLATION:
Dear Ms. Toby Lockwood,

while we are aware of your physical handicap, we the Amityville

gnomes respectfully request that you or someone else you know

please pick up after your seeing eye minipet. We sincerely

appreciate the fact that said seeing-eye pet appreciates our hard

work when it comes to gardening and keeping the school's grounds

in order. We however are no longer in need of any "gifts" that

your minipet leaves behind. We encourage you to please pick these

up, treasure them, and keep them forever and ever. Really. We

insist.

With many thanks,

The Amityville janitorial gnomes

User ImageName: Toby Lockwood
Nicknames: Honeybee (affectionate short term coined by her family), Falsie
Gender: Female, though you'd hardly guess at a glance
Age: Somewhere in her adolescent years.

Faction/Race Monster - Carnivorous unicorn doppelganger, aka "falsicorn"

Natural Ability:  Heat Vision (… of a sort): Though still possessing a single 'true' eye in the base of their horn for hunting purposes, the unicorn doppelganger navigates during passive circumstances with a pair of heat-sensing pits located in their (skin covered) eye sockets, viewing the world in a way similar to a thermal imaging camera. True to form, Toby can easily "see" most creatures this way, completely unaffected by lighting circumstances, so long as they have a noted temperature difference from the surrounding atmosphere. … Unfortunately, however, her sight can easily be confused by large groups in close quarters like a school hallway, and certain ghostly or undead individuals (aka close to room temperature or incorporeal) prove extremely hard for her to see, bordering on invisible.

ALSO NOTE: When switching back from her true eye to heat pits, Toby suffers a brief period of complete visual blindness for about fifteen minutes, leaving her extremely vulnerable. This is why she doesn't just use her "real" vision willy-nilly unless she desperately needs to, because it's hella nerve wracking to be 100% blind and helpless in the downtime.

Personality: Quiet and mild mannered, perhaps even to a fault, Toby is the kind of girl you'd expect to see dragging at the tail end of some tittering group at the Maul-- you know, the laggy little one carrying all the bags. To call her accommodating would be a gross understatement; she'll roll over for just about anyone that asks nicely-- particularly if said 'anyone' happens to be a fair young maiden-- even if it means putting aside whatever book or project she's in the middle of. Because of this tendency, unsurprisingly, she makes for an excellent on-the-spot minion or tagalong… though that's not to say she follows orders blindly (… er, in the metaphorical sense, that is).

First and foremost, Toby is a people pleaser. Secondly, however, she is an exceptionally sharp and intellectual girl, with wits only tempered by the fault of a passive disposition. Jack forbid her 'leading' party proposes something suicidally stupid, she will do everything in her power to change their mind about it… except openly argue with them, that is. When push comes to shove, unfortunately, she'll almost always be the one to back down in a fuss and, if her life (or her school career) is genuinely at risk, quietly excuse herself as the last possible option. If you see her actually backing out of a situation, chances are that s**t's about to get real and someone will wind up at Nurse Cricket's office in three or more pieces. If circumstances just happen to pan out terribly, however, she'll still do her damnedest to stay loyal by whatever friend's side through the thick of it, and help manage the damage. Part of pleasing folks is keeping them happily together, after all.

On the same social exploration note, however, there is one rather… unusual tendency she seems to have when it comes to her "preference" of friends. Given the choice, without question, Toby will always gravitate towards sweet or innocent young women (preferably virigins) and stick to them like a loyal puppy. It's a completely platonic attraction for the most part, driven by the instinctual 'desires' of her species, but leaves her perpetually stuck in the assumed position of either some overly quiet lesbian or 'that odd little fanboy' tagging hopelessly along. Not that she minds this, of course. In fact, it's where she's often at her happiest. She just likes the feeling of being at a pretty girl's side, and will take particular measures to please or entertain her 'maidens' in any way she can.

Lastly, and none too surprisingly, Toby is an all around soft heart with more than just her peers. If some wild minipet comes up to her begging for food or attention, she can't turn a blind eye (... again, metaphorically) to the poor thing's needs, nor will she force them away if they try following her home. Because of this, she's prone to having unintentional hoards of stray or wayward animals at any given time.

Why are they enrolled in Amityville Academy? Nothing particularly dramatic here. Toby's parents basically decided that it was time for their overly passive daughter to find her way in life, and what better place for that than a giant school full of other awkward Halloween youths? They also want her to toughen up and become a fiercer monster in the process, but it's more about psychological development and getting the girl to find her dominant side than scaring.

FEAR: Pacifying Aura: When in battle (or ultimately hunting, but battle is relevant to school), Toby can exude a calming aura around herself to effect opponents, effectively lowering their guard with feelings of safety or reassurance. Currently this can only be exuded within a roughly 5-7 foot radius of herself (though it is circular, rather than directional), which makes it a fairly awkward close-combat ability. Effect lasts for approximately thirty seconds, and takes the same duration to fully set in beforehand (probably a 1 turn prior thing), so if her concentration is thrown horrifically during the setup... POOF. Also can only be used once per battle in first year and only effect a single target, et cetera et cetera, standard snot procedure.

... Growth for this will basically be longer duration, shorter setup, and wider radius, so it'd be less useless (and therefore more practical) one day.

Toby (EXTRAS):

Family Background: Toby's family background is quite average, and for that, she's very thankful. Her parents, Emery and Delilah Lockwood, reared her with gentle hands and a constant reminder that learning is important, instilling a lifelong thirst for knowledge and self-improvement in the girl from as early as she can remember. While Emery-- a kind but no nonsense ex-bogeyman-- taught her the art of the hunt, Delilah-- who taught for many years in a far off college equivalent Halloween academy-- fostered her with literature and study. Both the mares, however, were determined to raise her as best they could despite moving "too often" for a truly stable living environment to ever be established, and for the most part, they managed to succeed in that task.

In addition to her parents, whom she still keeps routine letter contact with and often visits on breaks, Toby has a brother, Leopold, who is several years her senior and graduated from Amityville long before her time. Their relationship was fairly standard during their youth given the vast age gap; he picked on and needled her constantly, but would beat the tar out of anyone else trying to do the same. In fact, it's thanks of his zealously protective big brother complex that she got to enjoy a largely bully free (... short of him) childhood, and now that they've both matured, he treats her with more peer-like respect and friendliness-- barring the occasional teasing for old time's sake, that is.

Currently, Leo is no long living with their parents, off on his own in pursuit of a dream career as a criminal tracker for the region's elite bogeymen. Jack knows if he'll actually make it, but at least he still writes the family with updates and comes home on occasion to visit.

Diet: Meat, meat, and more meat. Given the nature of her species, Toby is a carnivore by default, and at least 75% of her daily diet comes as some form of protein. She likes it as fresh as possible and very rare; in fact, she only appreciates her steaks being cooked for the sake of warming them through... aside from conscious social propriety, anyway. If she has a choice, she also prefers red meat over white, but will consume the latter anyway, or even settle for things like fish when pressed.

The remaining 25% or so consists of non-living foods that she's "learned" to have a taste for over the years, mostly acquired through the desire to snack without having the heart to kill something abruptly for it. She won't touch real "horse food" like grasses or leaves, but does like certain fruits (apple and pomegranate especially), a handful of vegetables, and occasionally, starches like bread or pasta. Thankfully it doesn't give her any health issues, as falsicorns are perfectly capable of digesting non-meat items; it's just considered unusual for them to have more omnivorous tastes.

Hobbies:

+ Reading. Though it often presents a visual challenge, Toby still loves to read, and does so every night without fail before bed. She enjoys books on human world mythology in particular, as well as fictional novels, poetry, and short stories-- the latter especially because she can finish those in one sitting. It would be her dream to have a library full of books transcribed with heat-emitting ink so she could read whenever she wanted, though that's probably a forever fantasy.
+ Writing just goes hand in hand with the above. She likes to keep up a journal for keeping up with her thoughts (the physical bound-with-pages kind, as opposed to something digital), and even sometimes dabbles in story drafting. It never gets very far, but the creative exercise gives her an outlet when she needs it.
+ Tracking is also one of her favorite, if not more unusual pastimes. While Toby may suffer certain moral dilemmas that prevent her from being a 'true' predator, she still loves going through the motions of hunting down her would-be prey, whether it be by tracking a wild minipet in the woods or playing hide and seek with peers. Even the chase element is something she loves to get a taste of every so often, because really, what's better than sprinting through the woods at breakneck speed, or tearing across an open field? It's probably her most wild and primal indulgence activity.
+ Exploring the great outdoors has been a part of her life since she was a baby, and Toby still relishes in fair weathered wilderness ventures. Though she prefers to sleep in a warm bed and have access to more 'civilized' luxury when possible, she's quite comfortable in a forest setting, and because of her unique vision, is almost completely unaffected by time of day or lighting when it comes to navigation ability.
+ Socializing! Though not really dependent on company, per se, she does very much enjoy outings with her friends. Given the choice, she prefers to hang out with smaller, more manageable groups, and in open (usually outdoor) areas or a nice quiet dorm room. Still, the girl's so accommodating and mild-mannered that she'll seriously roll with just about anything and still be cool with it.

Other Odds and Ends:
- Given the lack of genuine detail her usual 'sight' lends her, Toby has become very touch oriented. She likes to hold hands with anyone considered a 'friend', touch faces, and get a stronger feel for her world in the most literal sense of it.
- In-class reading activities are often very challenging for her, since she has to use her true eye for it and will thus be stumbling around blind after class if she can't do the assignment at home.
- Unsurprisingly given all of this difficulty, she also loves being read to. This would be considered a very pleasurable 'friend' activity if anyone humored her for it.
- In her natural form, she's fairly accommodating to entertain people with rides or cart pulling if requested. Her reservations against being a 'beast of burden' when requested are pretty much non-existant, if it'll make someone happy.
- She's very wary about her horn being touched or handled-- which is hardly surprising, given that it holds something very sensitive at its core. She'll only let someone trusted mess with it at their polite request... unless you're just adamant enough to beg her until she caves anyway. Yeah, she's that big of a pushover.
- Her sense of smell is not tremendously acute like some monsters, only a few times stronger than that of a human. Her hearing, however, is very finely tuned, as is her sense of touch.
- Continuing from the above point, she's very good at most hand-oriented tasks, and would probably excel at handling musical instruments or sculpting.
- Though switching from her true eye back to heat vision leaves her temporarily blind (as the pits readjust), switching from heat vision to her true eye poses no immediate deficit. This is a clear advantage for hunting when she needs to truly 'see' prey the instant chase breaks out.
- Said true eye is actually very over-sensitive, both to physical trauma and simply getting overwhelmed from bursts of light and literal strain. When Toby truly 'sees' through it, she can pick out an enormous amount of detail at once while barely focussing, which is excellent to absorb information and sights with... but makes for a massive migraine if she does it for too long. She can use it for approximately an hour at a time before it gets too much to handle.
- Said eye also has a nictating, lid-like film that slides over it like a transparent cover when she needs to moisten the surface or shield if from "mild" debris (see: BLOOD); however, as has been mentioned, it is still a fairly fragile and mostly exposed organ she must be careful with. Jack forbid a fight broke out among peers, the hands-down fastest way to take her out would be a hard jab in the eye.
- Toby loves music, and does have an Eyepod, which she simply keeps on random with the 'clicking' sound option on for toggling to count what option she's scrolled to. Her playlist consists mostly of old, soothing, and otherwise calm-inducing songs.
- Developed mostly out of necessity, she has a very impressive memory of unusual details in her surroundings. Very small temperature markers in certain areas, bizarre thermal "shapes", tactile sensation and sound (along with distinct vocal traits in living things) are how she accurately gauges her world most of the time, so of course they're important to remember! She also remembers smells if she can detect them, but it's a comparatively weak sense to her others.
- She uses a special type of ink to write in-class notes with during lectures that's been enchanted to give off a constant, very slight amount of heat. It appears completely normal to the naked eye, and is barely warm to the touch, but using it means she can actually "see" her own notes without a visual switch. The same low-level spells have also been applied to a few supplies of hers; for example, she has a pocket watch with enchanted hands and numerals to make them 'visible' via heat signature, et cetera, et cetera. Super handy!
-Toby does know how to read braille in all its standard forms. She does not, however, write/record anything in it, because... well, enchanted ink and standard penmanship is just so much more practical, y'know?
-She's pretty much gender blind, both literally and metaphorically. It's not that she can't tell someone's physical sex, really; it's just that she doesn't see it as relevant enough to effect how she treats someone. Toby's social compartmentalizations function less in the standard "girls vs. guys" and more in "maiden types vs. everything else" instead.
-Following the above point, though she is instinctually drawn to people exhibiting "maiden type" characteristics, the attraction is always platonic in nature, and she seems to have little or no concept of romance on a hormonal level. Hell, she doesn't seem to have a concept of hormones at all, for that matter.
- Given how they aren't born with thumbs (or fingers for that matter), most unicorn doppelgangers adopt skull pin type technology from their earliest years to function properly, and Toby is no exception to this. She's been drifting between her natural and human-like form since she was a wee young babe, so it's very literally like her second skin to her and she's equally comfortable as either. Running is definitely more thrilling on four legs than two, though.
- Her shades do, in fact, serve a purpose, acting somewhat like the heat vision equivalent of sunglasses. As falsicorns mature, they gradually develop more control over both their true eye and their heat pits, but the latter is often tempered in youth by enchanted specs so scarelings don't accidentally blind themselves staring into fires and so forth. The strength of the "prescription" (aka the enchantment) will go down as a youth becomes more experienced/controlled... though some of them-- Toby included-- just develop an aesthetic liking for their glasses and keep them even when they no longer 'need' to.

The Carnivorous Unicorn Doppelganger:

User Image

Seen above: Toby, in natural form.

For every glorious legend there is a cautionary counter-tale, and this, most believe, is how the falsicorn came to be. Originally spawned as a warning story to keep young girls from sneaking out at night in search of wild unicorns, the falsicorn invaded Europe at some point around the middle ages, and has since been a nightmarish rumor haunting the woods and wilderness. In short, they're exactly what the name implies: a mid-sized, carnivorous equine species designed specifically to lure out and consume human maidens. At a distance, they're easily mistaken for the real thing, given how their shaggy manes and hair conceal most of the giveaway traits, but closer inspection reveals their "horn" to be an enormous split row of fangs cradling the creature's true eye, with hollow skin covered eye sockets and a thick gouging claw hidden in the tail ruffle. Patterns and colors may technically vary across the whole natural spectrum of horse breeds, but most are a classical pure white-- or fairly close to it-- as this has proven the most historically successful (and therefore prolific) coloration. Toby is, in fact, slightly atypical for being a mid-gray dapple, but retains the pale face and a largely monochromatic coat. This is mostly inherited from her mother Emery, who is marginally darker than herself and very similarly spotted.

As far as physical athleticism goes, the unicorn doppelganger is a fierce and impressive beast by nature. They are extremely swift on their feet-- easily capable of matching pace with the fastest racehorse-- and posses the endurance to sustain their top-gear gallop in excess of a mile before fatigue slows them. Though not overly musclebound, they make the most of their physiques with quick reflexes and an vast array of brutal personal weapons. Prey animals are typically brought down with the use of their strong jaws and fanged pseudo-horns (which can act as a pincer or vice grip when split to utilize their true eye), though they will also frequently wield their dense tail-claw to crippled a victim during the chase. Rounding out their arsenal, in very close quarters, they can (and will) use their sturdy legs and hooves to kick, stomp, or trample mercilessly.

In short, they're not to be taken lightly in combat... though thankfully, as far as Halloween is concerned, the species is few in number, usually reclusive, and perfectly benign to other residents.

Questions and Specifics Concerning the Falsicorn:

How exactly do they hunt?

Being so highly specialized and adapted to their quarry, falsicorns have developed a systematic method of maiden hunting through the centuries. They will always strive to locate (lone) victims at a distance using their heat vision and approach as quietly as possible, often positioning themselves strategically at the edge of a clearing or some other potentially advantageous area in the girl's path. The animal will wait patiently for their "unexpected" arrival, feigning passivity as it pretends to graze and inevitably lures her closer. If she is foolish enough not to realize the doppelganger's identity in time, she may find herself sprung upon at point-blank range and promptly trampled or bitten to death. If she does notice and bolt, however, the beast will reveal its true eye and chase will be given, until she is inevitably brought down by the snapping pincers or wild tail, killed swiftly, and consumed. Hunting "alternative" (non-sentient) prey in Halloween is a far less strategic endeavor for them, however, and most unicorn doppelgangers will skip the "luring" charade and simply overwhelm their prospective lunch with sheer speed and power instead. It's definitely less satisfying on an instinctual level, but at least it fills the belly.

Is their tail claw poisonous?

Negative. It's literally just a thick, extremely dense, pointed gouging claw, and there's no poison or fancy trick behind it. it's designed to be a used as a versatile weapon during the chase to catch, snare, bludgeon, trip, or otherwise lash at a fleeing victim with big swings of their tails, usually aimed at feet, backs, or necks. Just think of it like a cross between a light mace, a grappling hook, and a really dull knife attached to the end of a bullwhip. It also grows in a way very similar to a cat's claw (and sheds the same outer layers occasionally), but it less sharp, and much, much thicker.

What's up with the maiden attraction/what constitutes a maiden?

Just like you might be drawn to the golden-crusted aesthetic or sweet aroma of a fresh baked pie, so too are falsicorns naturally attracted by the traits of their ideal prey... with a slight difference. Though they will generally gravitate towards any being with these characteristics, unless said being is in fact delicious human, it stops there as a perfectly harmless, even endearing behavioral quirk. They will never attempt to eat a sentient Halloween denizen (even those with a human-like appearance), nor do they even feel the inclination to nibble on them.

The following with be a semi-accurate list of what they considerable desirable "maiden type" traits, and anyone fulfilling the majority may be treated as such during encounters.

1. Virgin (a classic and fairly key factor)
2. Usually female, or notably feminine in nature
3. Following the above, showing some of the archetypal "passive feminine" type personality traits: being sweet, innocent, soft-spoken, fairly benevolent, non-aggressive, et cetera.
4. Feminine appearance also seems to play a part, despite the falsicorn's heat vision. Go figure.

Keep in mind that these are traits not judged consciously, but rather sensed on a deeper, more instinctual level. Older individuals may recognize the tendency from experience, though many younger doppelgangers (Toby being a perfect example) seem curiously unaware of just how greatly it influences their social behavior.

Do they have a weakness?

Though a human would stand no chance against one, in the great physical hierarchy of Halloween's denizens, the falsicorn, while swift, is far from extraordinary in power. They're definitely more geared to sprinting than running a marathon (... or lifting weights), and would therefore be prone to getting either outmuscled or outlasted in a fight. Additionally, their tremendously acute vision is actually quite vulnerable due to its sensitivity-- both to blinding flashes of light and physical trauma. Getting poked or gouged hard in their true eye would be about as crippling as a sharp kick in the testicles, hence why the falsicorn is so cautious about guarding them, and it's the definitely fastest way to send one running (probably blind and screaming, at that).

Heat vision vs. the true eye (function, specifics and so forth):

Unlike many of their fellow monsters and other equine species, the carnvorous unicorn doppelganger's primary "sight" is derived from a pair of heat sensing pit organs, similar to that of certain human world snakes, located in the hollows of their skin-covered skull sockets. Though they perceive stimuli very differently from a normal eyeball, these pits retain several similar characteristics in both form and function; for example: they are spherical organs of similar size with an optic nerve equivalent feeding into the brain and the ability to "look" in different directions, as well as 'adjust' (to some extent) when met with potentially blinding extremes of temperature like a pupil would dilate to suit light. Thermal differences are processed into a visual display very similar to that of a thermal imaging camera in a color spectrum that goes from blue-black (at coldest) to bright yellow white (at hottest). Anything with a perceptible temperature difference from the surrounding environment can be seen, and individuals generally become more sensitive and finely tuned with age, though certain incorporeal (ghost) or room-temperature (undead) Halloween denizens may still give them trouble and appear as splotchy, broken, or even invisible. For a more succinct visual example of how heat vision works, this is how Toby would normally "see" her scareon, Iris. Note that things like footprints and "ghost trails" of bodies can also be detected when fresh.

The doppelganger's single "true" eye is considered a secondary sense by comparison, and is only used during the hunt or in other rare circumstances with no possible alternative. It is located at the top of the skull, within the base of the creature's false horn, and sits in a shallow, dish-like bone socket. It is also somewhat 'deflated' when not in use, but will swell to its visible size when activated thanks to blood and fluid filling its core as the horn is split open to unveil it. For all intents and purposes, it functions just like a normal eye... in hyperdrive. It's incredibly sensitive to all forms of stimuli, adjusting to light with a cat-like dilating pupil, and can absorb huge amounts of detail at once-- even while running. It's undoubtedly a huge advantage for the chase, when keeping visual contact is so desperately important... but also carries an equally huge drawback. Though age and experience promote a slightly longer usage time, at most, Toby herself can only utilize her true eye for an hour at maximum before fatigue, sensory overload, and a killer migraine take hold-- and when the time comes to finally make a visual switch back to standard heat vision, the pits are so scrambled that it takes approximately 15 minutes before they're adjusted enough to use again. While that's happening, she (and any other falsicorn in the same situation) is effectively one hundred percent blind. This sort of unfortunate backlash is a large part of why the true eye is only used when necessary, rather than willy-nilly.

What is their social behavior like?

Unicorn doppelgangers function more like typical predators than most equines (being meat eaters and all), so they're fairly solitary in nature. Pairs do usually mate for life and stay together, so they'll travel around like that and have small family groups with young, but seeing a big herd of them is really rare (usually this is only family reunion type affairs, never permanent). They are not, however, territorial at all, which makes them very neutral about group settings. Toby, fore example, does enjoy being around others and has very passable social skills, but at the same time is perfectly content spending an afternoon by herself if she's got nothing better to do.

Appearance: "neutral" mode vs. "hunting" mode:

It should be noted that the falsicorn (in its natural form, anyway) has two fairly specific physical "modes" of operating. During the majority of their time in passive circumstances, they appear markedly similar to a true unicorn. Their horn is closed, their mouth is delicately small and equine, and the tail is carried in a low, docile position with its claw concealed by shaggy hair. When hunting actively or highly threatened/aggressed, however, they will split their horn into a great fanged pincer, expose their true eye, raise the tail hook menacingly and, perhaps most alarming, stretch their jaw-- which has far greater strength and flexibility than any horse-- to expose great rows of sharp, carnivorous teeth. Both modes can be seen in the picture below.

ROOM AND POSSESSIONS:

The Room Itself: Toby's room is pleasantly average and well ordered, with an appropriately simple, functional aesthetic. She has a full sized bed pushed up against the far wall with a comfortably soft mattress and plenty of bedding to curl up in. There's also a small desk and chair in one corner where she works on assignments, reads, and writes, as well as a small two-tiered shelf butted up beside it for storage of all her books. A little nightstand is where she keeps her one lamp-- and stores her glasses and Eyepod on when not in use. Whatever else she possesses or collects (being so tactile, the girl does enjoy a somewhat peculiar collection of trinkets) may be placed on one of her various wall mantles... which there are a good number of, located from chest to just above head level.

Iris doesn't actually have a designated "nest", since he just sleeps with Toby every night and lounges on the comforter, though she still has little pet beds equivalent to the number of minipets in her possession at any given time, with appropriate food/water dishes all tucked conveniently out of the way by corners or wall-edges. No need to risk tripping over something (or someone), after all!

As for room colors, the bedding and walls are all fairly neutral, with accents in earthy green and brown tones. Just think simple, calm and woodsy, and you've got her living space in a nutshell.

... If visitors squint hard enough, they may also be able to pick out tiny ink symbols placed in various spots across the room, both on the space itself and corners of furniture. These are just added heat signatures Toby has doodled to make sure she always knows exactly where she's at. Most all of her possessions not specifically enchanted (like her watch) are also branded with a few dots of a tiny picture in the same ink, just so she never has to worry about losing them.

Current Supplies:

-1 Eyepod (with audible toggle and 'random' perpetually set, short of her playlists)
- 1 pocket watch with chain, enchanted to display the hands and hour via low-grade heat signature
- 1 refillable ink bottle with enchanted heat-emitting ink, for writing and class notes
- 1 fountain pen for the aforementioned ink's usage
- 1 journal for personal writing
- X amount of various textbooks, short stories, novels and other reading she's picked up.

PETS: IRIS AND COMPANY:

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

This is Iris, Toby's designated assistance animal, seeing eye dog, and constant companion. Highly trained, and superbly obedient, he can always be found at her side in his assistance harness (which can be seen in this doodle and has a pivoting metal handle to grasp), helping lead the girl through crowded hallways and alerting her to presences or objects she cannot 'see'. He uses several passive non-verbal signals (touching her on the leg with a paw, nudging with his head, et cetera) to warn her of various issues and, when permitted, will lay under her desk quietly during class until the session is over. In short, he's as well behaved, intelligent and responsive as any service animal you'd meet in the human world-- though that's not to say he doesn't enjoy playtime. When the harness comes off and it's time to relax after a long day, he revels in games of catch, runs with Toby across the grounds, or just sprawling across her lap and indulging in all the more usual carefree pet behaviors.

If it's not obvious enough without the blatant statement, they're a very close working pair. He even sleeps with her every night under the covers.

During Toby's first week at Amityville she heard of a great festival going on that many of her new peers would be attending, and it was there, unexpectedly, that she acquired Tiny. The girl certainly wasn't expecting her wish at some deep well to magically produce results, yet still she mysteriously discovered a strange star-like trinket in her yukata later that night and, having set it by her pillow that night, awoke the next morning to some little finned kitten thing rubbing against her face. The star had also mysteriously vanished and... well, despite her lack of a more logical explanation, it didn't take long for Toby's heart to melt over the strange little creature's adoring antics. Quirky, playful and childlike, he's always purring or chasing toys or doing something stupidly adorable. Even Iris has taken a hesitant liking to Tiny, and will sometimes carry him around by the scruff like a mother cat when they're on the move.

Overly Long Character Survey Fun!
Body and Appearance
1. Describe the character's height and build. Is she heavyset, thin, short, rangy?
Fairly delicate, and rather thin. She has a somewhat small, androgynous build that looks like it never really hit puberty proper.

2. How old is she?
The equivalent of a mid-to-late teenaged adolescent. It's hard to quantify in actual human years because of how different monster aging can work.

3. Describe her posture. Does she carry herself well or does she slouch?
She has good posture and carries herself with a certain passive confidence. Her nose won't be stuck up in the air or anything, but she doesn't visibly shrink or slouch unless very very threatened.

4. How is her health? Is she fit or out of shape? Any illnesses or conditions? Any physical disabilities?
She's actually in pretty good shape! Being a monster and a predator, Toby can demonstrate fair athletic ability when she needs to (mores in her natural form), and has no real diseases or deficits to speak of, if you don't count her unusual sight challenges! She's definitely more a sprinter than a marathon runner, but her endurance is still very adequate.

5. How does she move? Is she clumsy, graceful, tense, fluid?
She's 'graceful' enough to avoid tripping over her own feet as far as bodily awareness goes, but is still occasionally prone to accidental run-ins with ghosts, undeads, or some errant desk/backpack/wall she can't detect properly before it's too late. Usually this only happens when her heat pits get overwhelmed from too many bodies (aka class hallways) though, and having Iris with her helps prevent such mishaps.

6. How attractive is this character physically? How does she perceive herself in the mirror?
Toby seems to have very little concept of personal "attractiveness" in the typical teenage sense, but she does take a certain pride in looking presentable and appropriate for school, so she maintains a pretty modest upkeep ritual and is more or less entirely comfortable with her appearance. TL;DR: her body works just fine and that's all she really cares about, so she's happy with that.

7. Describe her complexion. Dark, light, clear, scarred?
She's pretty pale on her face and extremities, though there is actually visible (albeit faint) dappling on her torso and abdomen, which is strongest along her spine.

8. Describe her hair: color, texture, style.
It's fairly long and gray, with a texture somewhere between loosely curled and wavy. She always makes sure to brush out any tangles and keep it in a princely, tied-back style of some sort (usually a low ponytail, with occasional variations of a braid or wrap). Either way, it's never just down and loose.

9. What color are her eyes?
… TROLOLOLOLOL. I mean, uh… well, her true eye is reddish orange, I think? DOES THAT COUNT?

10. Does the character have any other noteworthy features?
Do hollow eye sockets and a fanged pseudo-horn count?

11. What are her chief tension centers?
Very little actually seems to faze her on a personal level; most of the time, it's the plight of someone she's close to that winds up effecting her more grievously. If one of her companions is dealing with a big stressor element (getting picked on/bullied, failing class, or whatever other catastrophically screwy "school" thing), it tends to rub off on her. The anxiety only multiplies if she can't help correct the issue.

12. What is the character's wardrobe like? Casual, dressy, utilitarian? Bright colors, pastels, neutrals? Is it varied, or does she have six of the same suit?
I think Toby's style hovers between the dressy and casual labels; she likes to wear clothing that looks clean, proper and presentable, but doesn't sacrifice personal comfort to get it. Her personal taste is somewhat Victorian, you could say; she likes sharp looking jackets, tailcoats, button-down vests, spats, gloves and so forth. It's pretty much her visual ideal of tasteful, modest and classy for a human shaped body… and definitely doesn't hurt the princely image maidens seem to like. Colors tend to be minimal also, and locked in a neutral palette.

13. Do her clothes fit well? Does she seem comfortable in them?
They do, and she is! Being so slight figured, the gender neutral/slightly masculine getup seems to fit her like a (metaphorical) glove.

14. Does she dress the same on the job for school as she does in her free time? If not, what are the differences?
To an extent, yes. You'll never see Toby walking around somewhere public in her pajamas, though she does sometimes tone down the propriety a little after class, shedding her tailcoat and spats for, say, a collared shirt and some loose slacks. It just depends how she's feeling that day, but she'll always present herself well around others. For special occasions like festivals or parties, she'll sometimes break out one of her (few) modest yukatas, which she has a guilty affection for, or a dressier suit than the norm.

15. You knew it was coming: Boxers, briefs or commando?
Uuuh. Briefs?

Speech
1. What does this character's voice sound like? High-pitched, deep, hoarse?
Toby's voice fits nicely with her appearance; it hovers comfortably in the range of sexually neutral pitch, with a slight bias toward (probably) female if you listen… for a while. Anyone who doesn't know her gender specifically could take it for a pre-pubescent boy's, though.

2. How does she normally speak? Loud, soft, fast, evenly? Does she talk easily, or does she hesitate?
Often considered quiet or mousy by her peers, she doesn't speak terribly often… mostly because she doesn't feel the need to. When Toby does pipe up, however, people are sometimes taken aback by how (quietly) certain and direct she can be. She's passive, pleasant, and never one to cause an upset, sure, but that doesn't mean she's going to stutter or doubt her words when she finally uses them.

3. Does the character have a distinct accent or dialect? Any individual quirks of pronunciation? Any, like, you know, verbal tics?
Not really! Her speech patterns are fairly standard, well articulated, and grammatically correct. When she takes a verbal pause, it's usually just that: a moment of silence lacking any "ums" or "ahs" or "likes" to fill the void.

4. What language/s does he speak, and with how much fluency?
Uuuh… she's just an English speaker, so far as I know?

5. Does she switch languages or dialects in certain situations?
Not really. If she was cornered and genuinely terrified (which would take a very extreme situation), she might be prone to stuttering or tripping over her words. If it was even worse than that somehow, she might literally be scared silent.

6. Is she a good impromptu speaker, or does she have to think about his words?
Yes, actually, which (again) often comes as surprising to her peers. She doesn't prefer to speak excessively if she doesn't have to, but if put on the spot with no alternative, she's very capable of being a decent orator.

7. Is he eloquent or inarticulate? Under what circumstances might this change?
All around eloquent and pretty succinct, though she does have a tendency to keep her volume low across the board. Extreme stress, anxiety, or imminent death would really be the only things to make her lose her s**t. All in all, the girl's pretty composed.

Mental and Emotional
1. How intelligent is this character? Is she book-smart or street-smart?
She's got a high IQ and quick wits to match. Most of her intelligence is devoted to the "book smart" category for academia related subjects, but she also knows how to apply those same thinking skills to certain real world circumstances, too. She's not hopelessly street dumb, at the very least.

2. Does she think on her feet, or does she need time to deliberate?
Swift thinking is one of her strengths, actually. Even under a fair lot of pressure, Toby can usually make quick and fairly accurate judgement calls about a situation. The problem comes in whether or not she decides to voice them (spoiler: she usually doesn't).

3. Describe the character's thought process. Is he more logical, or more intuitive? Idealistic or practical?
Logical, without question, but her logic is usually quick enough to make up for those neglected 'gut feelings' she doesn't like to trust. She's also fairly practical, but does enjoy the concept of idealism… when she has the luxury of it being a safe option, anyway.

4. What kind of education has the character had?
A fairly typical 'homeschooling' experience with her parents in their wooded home turf. Unlike many monster families, however, they made a point of exposing her to more "refined" practices in tandem with the standard predatory training, so she's not just literate and well-studied, but already predisposed to academic growth.

5. What are her areas of expertise? What, if anything, is she interested in learning more about?
At the moment, she really doesn't have any specialized studies, but is interested in literature, botany, music, gym, the arts… she's receptive to and intrigued by the majority of what Amity can offer her, really. The girl's geared to be an attentive sponge.

6. Is she an introvert or an extrovert?
In all honesty, she straddles the line between them, but one could label her as a very quiet extrovert if they had to.

7. Describe the character's temperament. Is she even-tempered or does he have mood swings? Cheerful or melancholy? Laid-back or driven?
Toby is extremely even tempered, reserved, and nay impossible to get angry; hell, she's about as pleasant and tolerant as they come. Though not outspoken about it, she maintains a fairly positive outlook on life and does pursue her studies, if nothing else, with a certain amount of passion.

8. How does she respond to new people or situations? Is she suspicious, relaxed, timid, enthusiastic?
New people don't scare her, per se, but she does tend to hang back and observe things first before taking any potential greeting initiative. When engaged in conversation by someone new, she'll respond with a quiet, prompt cordiality and be as interactive as her conversation partner demands. With a maiden type she's also much more likely to take the first step in introducing herself.

9. Is she more likely to act, or to react?
React, probably, since she tends to hang back and wait for provocation more than anything. That doesn't mean she won't be running through potential scenarios the whole time while she waits, though.

10. Which is her default: fight or flight?
Flight, flight, flight. There might be some fight in her somewhere, but she's never been pushed into a desperate enough corner for it to show.

11. Describe the character's sense of humor. Does she appreciate jokes? Puns? Gallows humor? Bathroom humor? Pranks?
Rather surprisingly, Toby does possess a fairly sharp, poignant wit, but is so over-conscientious of her peers (and their sensitivity) that she never indulges it. She does appreciate a smart joke (assuming it's not really hurting anyone), though, and will always crack a reserved smile, at the very least.

12. Does the character have any diagnosable mental disorders? If yes, how does he deal with them?
Nope! Even compared to a 'typical' teenager, she's pretty well adjusted and stable.

13. What moments in this character's life have defined her as a person?
Her life's actually been a fairly smooth ride so far. Getting Iris and being 'prepared' for the world outside her family would probably be closest to a qualifiable defining event.

14. What does she fear?
Making true, malicious enemies for herself would probably be a big one. Though she's not afraid of being alone, per se, she does have a certain fear of letting down/pissing off/driving away the people she has/will become friends with. Most of he fear-related anxiety revolves around similar emotional things to this, as she's managed to logically invalidate more typical external phobias.

To some extent, she's also afraid of being helpless, mostly due to the blinding drawbacks of her vision. Though she doesn't 'see' like a normal monster, after all, she still relies heavily on her heat pits (and her true eye, as well as Iris) to get around, and Jack forbid she ever lost her secondary sense-crutch by going deaf on top of blindness…

15. What is something she doesn't want anyone to find out about her?
Of all things, she doesn't want it known publicly that she goes completely blind (if only for limited periods) after the use of her true eye. There are a couple of reasons for this-- the first being a conscious discretion with her greatest physical weakness, and the second being that… well, she doesn't want to be pitied. For as much of a quiet, reserved, laughable pushover type as she is, Toby takes a certain pride in her independence, and doesn't want to be viewed as someone needing help just to get by.

Relationships
1. Describe this character's relationship with her parents.
Pleasant and friendly in the most average of ways. Her parents, a kindly pair of mares, raised her with with a soft touch and an open mind. Toby's always had a fairly warm, close relationship with them, and still writes home frequently to stay in contact since her enrollment. Sometimes she'll even get care packages.

2. Does the character have any siblings? What is/was their relationship like?
She has a brother several years old than her, already long-since graduated from Amityville. He's currently pursuing a dream career as a criminal tracker in a distant reaches of Halloween, but occasionally still comes home or sends letters. During their early years, he was a little rebellious and picked on her frequently, but like a good sibling, he wasn't really malicious about it-- and would still beat the tar out of anyone else who'd tease her. Part of Toby's blissful innocence during her youth can be attributed to his protective tendencies.

3. Are there other blood relatives to whom she is close? Are there ones she can't stand?
Not really? On her mother Emery's side she has an aunt and uncle (the uncle also has a mate, who counts as a second aunt, with one young colt for a cousin), and on her mom Delilah's, she's got one aunt, as well as a kindly grandmother and grandfather. There may be others, but she's never had personal contact with them.

4. Are there other, unrelated people whom she considers part of his family? What are her relationships with them?
As of now, actually, she doesn't really have much here. Though Toby has met a lot of people over the years (mostly due to her parents being fairly nomadic and moving year or two when she was young), all of her prior connections have just sort of passively dissolved as time goes on. Some of them just vanished off the radar and never responded to letters, others she simply grew away from, and so forth. It's been a long time since she's actually had someone outside of blood kin to be close to.

5. Who is/was the character's best friend? How did they meet?
She had a scarce few playmates when she was a baby, but Toby's closest present day friend would probably be Iris, of all things. The floresce scareon was given to her as a dirty, helpless newborn pup many years ago by her mother (who may or may not have literally hunted his nest down in the forest and 'robbed the cradle', so to speak), and since then, he's become more than just her eyes in a tight spot. He's keeps her company, listens to her without ever complaining, and provides an invaluable source of emotional support. Basically, he's her multipurpose pillar of familiarity and comfort in this new environment-- and he even sleeps by her on the bed every night.

6. Does she have other close friends?
Right now, she doesn't, but she would like to make some.

7. Does she make friends easily, or does she have trouble getting along with people?
She has a somewhat detrimental habit of restraining herself from the initial engagement if she's not 100% sure of her own acceptance, but once approached, Toby quickly proves herself to be a fairly adaptable, pleasant, and willing girl. She (almost) never interrupts in conversations and tends to keep her voice at a level prone to getting drowned out by louder companions, but she will speak none the less when spoken to, and be as engaging as the situation (or partner) demands. Over all, she's extremely easy to get along with thanks to her passivity, and very agreeable.

8. Which does he consider more important: family or friends?
That's actually a pretty hard call. At the moment, she shares a much stronger connection with her family than anyone else, so they'd take priority-- but any friend she grew close enough to would eventually stand on equal footing with them.

9. Is the character single, married, divorced, widowed? Has she been married more than once?
…. pffft, are you kidding me? She's way too young for any of that.

10. Is she currently in a romantic relationship with someone other than a spouse?
Nope! She's never actually been in a relationship to date.

11. Who was his first crush? Who is his latest?
As far as crushing goes, Toby's never actually… experienced that sort of feeling, in the traditional sense. She's gotten attached to people, and drawn to little maiden friends, but it seems like her hormones are either MIA or just nonexistent to begin with.

12. What does she look for in a romantic partner?
Well, since she can't exactly look in the usual manner and has no real desire to speak of, theoretically, her preferred traits would probably be… marked intelligence, some manner of compassion, and treating her fairly. Toby isn't the kind of girl who'd want to be worshipped or spoiled like a princesses (if anything, she might be the little 'prince' role of a relationship with someone passive), but she'd definitely want to be a mate's peer and equal. An ideal counterpart for her is not dissimilar to the ideal for a very close friend. Bonus points for someone who was also fairly tactile, because she does enjoy touching (… in the snuggly/bodily closeness sense, that is).

13. Does the character have children? Grandchildren? If yes, how does he relate to them? If no, does he want any?
Definitely no kids, and no real thought of having them, either. I think she's too young to really consider the idea seriously yet.

14. Does he have any rivals or enemies?
Not right now, nope.

15. What is the character's sexual orientation? Where does she fall on the Kinsey scale?
I don't know if saying she has an orientation would even be accurate since she's not really interested like that, but I guess bisexual, technically, if I had to put a label on her? She's pretty much 100% gender blind, anyway, so a (THEORETICAL) mate's desirability would have little or nothing to do with their sex. Kinsey scale probably wouldn't apply accurately, either, for the same reason.

16. How does she feel about sex? How important is it to her?
… Shocking, I know, but she doesn't really think about it or care in the slightest.

17. What are her turn-ons? Turn-offs? Weird bedroom habits?
UUUH. 8[ Really?

Beliefs
1. Do you know your character's astrological (zodiac of choice) sign? How well does she fit type?
Though it doesn't apply in the literal sense, if we're going by archetypal traits, she'd be a pretty dead ringer for the Virgo.

2. Is this character religious, spiritual, both, or neither? How important are these elements in her life?
I think this is a hard concept to slap on most Halloween residents, really. Toby's too practical for considering the idea of 'faith' as more than an interesting concept anyway. She is, however, very interested in the mythology humans have conjured up concerning their world (especially unicorn and mystical equine related stories).

3. Does this character have a personal code of morals or ethics? If so, how did that begin? What would it take to compromise it?
She does, actually, though it's less of a formal 'how to act' list and more a conglomeration of fairly reliable tendencies. She tries to treat everyone she encounters with respect and decency, as well as avoid any action that causes harm to someone else (as in, all sentient peers and so forth). When she does try to go out on 'hunts' for prey animals-- which is very rare-- she also has a strict rule against killing anything with offspring, or any overly young/immature/wounded specimen. It's… well, even as a predator, she's still struggling heavily with certain moral issues that come from taking a life by her own hand, so she's trying to justify herself in only the "fairest" of contests with fit, healthy, mature victims (aka giving them the best chance against her, despite obvious size and athleticism differences) to feel less guilty about it. In the end, she… usually just eats prepared protein to avoid the issue entirely.

4. How does she regard beliefs that differ from hers? Is she tolerant, intolerant, curious, indifferent?
She's universally tolerant of anything and everything so long as it doesn't harm others, and tries her best to sympathize with the different outlooks of her peers, even if it's not her cup of tea.

5. What prejudices does she hold? Are they irrational or does she have a good reason for them?
She doesn't have any immediate prejudices to speak of, nope! The only people she'd probably have any pensiveness against are obvious dicks and/or those that pose a recognizable danger to herself (… or friends), which she then takes steps to avoid.

Daily Life
1. What is the character's financial situation? Is he rich, poor, comfortable, in debt?
Her family is about the Halloween equivalent of comfortably lower-middle class, I'd say. Her parents have finally settled in a lovely little cottage home out in the woods far beyond Amity, and though they're not rich by any standards, they don't suffer any particular shortcomings for what they need and still manage to pay Toby's tuition. Toby herself is fine with these arrangements; practical as she is, the girl's never really desired much in the way of expensive fare.

2. What is his social status? Has this changed over time, and if so, how has the change affected him?
It's hard to say, here. Given that Falsicorns tend to be somewhat removed from "normal" monster society (being a little more secluded and unto themselves than most), they don't usually bother earning any quantifiable status. It's fairly common for Halloweeners not to realize they even exist, until they meet one for the first time.

3. Where does she live? House, apartment, trailer? Is his home his castle or just a place to crash? What condition is it in? Does she share it with others?
At school, the monster dorms! Her "real" home is a little cottage home in the woods, however, as mentioned above. It's located in the thick of a fairly desolate and unpopulated forest area, giving the family privacy and a fair retreat from city life-- which is what they tend to prefer. The furnishings are also pretty standard, albeit with a somewhat 'english countryside' charm about them, and since shapeshifting enchantments are old hat to most every falsicorn (… not being born with thumbs can make things pretty difficult, hence why similar "technology" to the skull pin is standard fair for them from an early age), everything is fitted comfortably for their more human-like shapes, which they always take upon entry for the sake of convenience.

4. Besides the basic necessities, what does she spend her money on?
Not much! Necessities are usually the first and last thing Toby checks off her list, and she's pretty reliably thrifty about her funds. She does, however, indulge a bit more when taking a friend out, and may occasionally squander a few pumpkin seeds on some special snack food, a new book, or the occasional piece of clothing.

5. What does she do for a living? Is she good at it? Does she enjoy it, or would she rather be doing something else?
Well, right now she's a student, and not much else. She does enjoy the experience, though, and is eager to learn more or less everything Amity can teach her. She's a sponge for academics.

6. What are her interests or hobbies? How does she spend his free time?
She's mostly school oriented at the moment, and thus her "interests and hobbies" usually just have to do with classwork. Beyond that, however, she enjoys reading (… when she's able to), writing, listening to music, occasionally socializing with friends, and just being outdoors in fair weather. Ironically, though she has a number of mental hangups against killing prey for herself, she does enjoy tracking to exercise her instincts, and loves the occasional full-tilt gallop. Give her an open field in her natural form and she can tear it up with the best of 'em-- or hell, if she gets serious and busts out the true eye, she's capable of navigating even thick brush or forest at nearly top speed without faltering (… mostly).

7. What are her eating habits? Does she skip meals, eat out, drink alcohol, avoid certain foods?
Toby's a surprisingly solid eater, and she keeps her meal schedule as regular as possible; after all, it's food for the mind as well as the body (… and a full belly makes sure ANY potential predator instincts stay forever quiet). A good 75% of her diet consists of pure protein, preferably as fresh as possible, and only slightly cooked, if that. Her species is carnivorous for the most part, after all, but she can still process non-meat items without digestive issue. She won't touch grass or anything, but does appreciate certain vegetables, some fruit (apples and pomegranates especially), and very occasionally, starches like bread or pasta. She doesn't drink alcohol (obviously she'd get expelled for it) and mostly sticks to water for beverages, but does… enjoy the taste of fresh animal blood, even if it's not something she'll indulge (or admit) openly beyond ordering her steaks VERY rare.

Associations
Which of the following do you associate with the character, or which is her favorite (NOTE: going with favorite):

1. Color?
Toby enjoys just about every color there is, but has a particular love for earthy browns and greens. Why? Well… they're colors she doesn't actually "see" under normal circumstances without her true eye (her heat vision range is interpreted roughly as black-blue-indigo-violet-magenta-red-orange-yellow-white, with black as a benchmark coldest and white the hottest), so getting to perceive those is more of a special treat. The same goes for anything in true grayscale, ironically.

2. Smell?
Anything woodsy. Her sense of smell isn't super acute, but she knows the general "scent" of the forest, and that gives her a certain nostalgic comfort.

3. Time of day?
Mostly irrelevant since light perception isn't a huge factor for her. She does like the cooler atmosphere of evenings, though, and the sound of crickets and bugs at night.

4. Season?
Spring. It mostly has to do with the fresh green things and clear sounds.

5. Book?
Anything she can get her hands on. No, really.

6. Music?
Classical, soft folkish rock, and lullabies. Just think soothing.

7. Place?
Wooded forest areas. Also, big clearings in said wooded forest areas.

8. Substance?
Uh. Fresh prey blood would probably be her favorite if she'd fess up, but don't count on it.

9. Plant?
… Pomegranate and apple trees. Mostly because they're fruits she likes the taste of.

10. Animal?
Iris!

… If we're talking about animals she likes to consume, that'd encompass just about anything with red meat inside.
